Moyola Park - Left Nov 2012 - since then the club won promotion to First Divison before instant relegation. In the 2018/19 season the club dropped out of the Second Division.

York City - Left October 2014 - finished 5th, 2nd and 2nd in the next three seasons following my sacking, winning the BSBP play-offs in 2018. Finished 16th and 6th in two seasons back in the Football League.

Cambridge - Left May 2017 - Left after gaining promotion to the BSBP the club finished 8th then 23rd in the league. Just finished 2nd in BSBS but lost in play-off semi finals.

Doncaster - Left June 2018 - After a League Two play-off final defeat the club has finished 10th and 20th in League Two.

Really did want a crack at the SPL but part of me wanted to see what jobs came up after season ended before I committed. I was really hoping the Blackburn job came up, a club struggling in League One. Thinking the contract ended at end of June thought i was safe to reject a couple of contract extensions but it ended on May 31st. Should have checked it but just continued the game, the next news item flashed up saying i had resigned. Gutted really.

SPL

Pre Season 2020/21


Here i am, in the SPL but not with the club i wanted to be with...

As it goes HAFC have finished 11th in the previous two seasons, surviving by just a point last year.

Pre-season has been poor followed by good. Two goalless draws followed a 1-0 loss to Man City. That happend before i came in.

My two friendies featured a 1-1 draw with Preston and a 5-0 win over former club Darlington.

As for the squad i am generally happy for the upcoming season so here it is:



Since the start of my managerial career HAFC have had seasons in:

SPL - 3 (11th, 11th and 12th)

SD1 - 5 (1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd and 10th)

SD2 - 1 (1st)

The club has gone through 3 managers previous to me:

Billy Reid until March 2012 (sacked)

Jimmy Calderwood until May 2019 (retired)

Jim McIntyre until July 2020 (left for St Mirren)

The clubs best run in the cups:

Scottish Cup - semi final twice

League Cup - 3rd aet once

Challenge Cup - 3rd on pens once

Inconsistant start but fairly happy so far. Celtic defeat was tough, 90th winner for them but overall only the Hibs game has seen a poor performance. Anything better than 11th is good for this club.

Sad to be out of the club already, as we were the better side but if you cant finish from 12 yards your not going to go far.

The next couple of moths sees us visit Rangers, Celtic and former club Livingston.

So far so good. Nicely placed with some decent results. Defeat wise i always struggle at former clubs so defeat to Livingston was expected as was the loss to Rangers. Sadly though we were battered by Dundee Utd, a side i have been linked with should they change manager in the summer.

Just looking at the league very happy indeed but a good look at the results shows it could have been so so better.

Burnley are currently 9th in the Championship, 5 points from the play-offs with 9 to play.

A poor run of 6 points from 10 games cost Gordon Strachan his job.

The club has spent 6 years in the Premier League with former managers being Martin Jol and Kaka

As you can tell i have left Hamilton for Burnley. It was too good a chance to turn down and the club is geared towards the Premier League.

The club has given me a good transfer budget of £14m and in the bank the club has £20m.

The club has agreed to improve youth facilities and also looking into buying Turf Moor.

Not the worst of starts for the Premier new boys. Decent home point against Eveton with former Evertonian Hallam Hope grabbing our leveller. Away to Villa was tough but a second half strike from Mdluli looked good for us until both Craig Easton and Stefano Giuliani were sent off after 81 mins. Both of Villa's next goals came in the 88th and 90+2 minutes. The month ended with a tight home win. Player of the Year Scott Dann fired us ahead and the winner from Sinclair came just two minutes after the Stoke goal.

League Cup:



What should have been an easy match at League 2 Rochdale proved to be far from that. An og from Whetton gave us a half time lead until the same player levelled for Dale. Into extra time and the host scored after 105+1 mins and we needed Dann (108) and Passarino (112) to put us into Round 3 against my former club Doncaster Rovers.

You would certainly think i would be happy with that month but no im not. Despite being unbeaten and picking a fanastic win up at Tottenham in all three league games we surrendered 2-0 leads. In the first two it cost us points but luckily in the Spurs game we managed to strike a third, killer blow.

Once again we blew a 2-0 lead over Newcastle but struck a vital third. Bottom club QPR were easily dispatched before defeat to Man City. The first time we have lost a game which was 11 v 11. The month ended with a real back to the wall job at Anfield. Liverpool needed a leveller from Wickham with just two minutes to go.

Tough win at a Championship club sees us host another Championship side Bolton in the last eight. Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham still remain in the competition.

A good month all round. The bad stuff was a woeful defeat to Hull but that was squeezed between three good wins. We went back to our old tricks against Blackpool, dropping a 2-0 lead. This is a habit we need to break.

League Cup:



Its all about the Championship again. Beat Bolton nicely and the semi final draw gives us Coventry, also of the Championship. The other semi final is Cardiff vs Manchester City.

A bit more moving than i would have liked to be honest. Wish i had paid more attention to my Livingston contract!

That cup final was awful, i don't think i could take it again. Was leaping from my seat thinking we had it won then punching the sofa when we lost!!

Pleased and massively surprised by what happening at Burnley, expected to miss play-offs and the squad to be decent, not good.

As for top job both Spurs and Newcastle have had vacancies recently that the press have linked me with but denied both. Very happy at Turf Moor for now, particually with the Lge Cup semi final coming up.

A nightmare run during December has dropped us off the pace but still in a good position. In fairness to my team though six of the seven defeats were to teams above us. My worry was lack of goals so as soon as the transfer window opened we snapped up Italian Marco Sampaolesi. The 19 year old has joined after being released from Parma. So far he has struck 5 in 8 in all comps.

Certainly have to be happy with the season on the whole. 11th in the Premier League is the best finish by Burnley since the 2014/15 season where they finished 9th. A first League Cup win also gives us Europe next season.

There will be a re-vamp of the squad as first team squad players such as Henderson, Scott Dann, Aleksander Kolarov, Cheick Tiote Jesse Lingard are out of contract.

I will be looking for a centre back, full back, left winger and centre midfielder.

The choice i have to make is whether to continue wilth a small squad as i have done so far or spend more cash and wages to ensure we are ready for our Europa League adventure.

Some crazy results in there and overall a disappointing start to the new season. Could not have been worse after 3 games then an amazing game at Watford! Should have beaten Birmingham after being two up and only beaten by Liverpool late on.

League Cup:



Despite being the holders i have rested players in the two games and it nearly cost us against Newport. A home tie with League rivals Newcastle is up next. Again big clubs left in the cup with Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea in the last 8.

Not the worst of months really. Good wins vs Watford and Wigan while delighted with 3-3 at Man City. Newcastle ran us close in Lge Cup in December so knew the away game would be tough. Next month brings just two league games, both at home.

FA Cup:



Two nice wins at home see us into Round 5 also at home to Newcastle.


This month has seen two players leave the club, including summer signing from Everton Aykurt Seyfettin. Signed in July for £4.5m we sold him to Birmingham for £5.75m. The 24 year old has played for 5 clubs plus another 4 on loan!

Coming into the first team squad in January are:

Eamonn Gallagher:

Signed from former club Hamilton for £1.9m the 25 year old left winger will play back up to Scott Sinclair. His former clubs include Lurgan Celtic and Dungannon in N.Ireland and Morton is the SD1. He has has 18 months in the SPL with St. Mirren and Hamilton playing 21 times. Has 10 caps for N.Ireland

Oswald Gauthier:

The 25 year old joins from Spurs for £4.1m. Brought in to challenge my three other forwards he has made a good start with 5 goals in just 4 Prem games. Left Auxerre for Spurs at the end of his contract in 2017 he has had 5 different loan spells with teams like Zenit and Hibs while a season in the Prem with Blackpool. A career has brought 66 goals in 143 league games. One cap and one goal for France.

Our grip on the League Cup has gone with two defeats to Liverpool. The 4-2 result flattered us to be honest and in the second we were never in it while Liverpool missed a pen too. Man Utd await Liverpool after seeing off Chelsea 5-2 on agg.




Was offered the Villa job in the summer and rejected it and now Paul Jewell has been sacked i am linked again.
