Will i be able to run it? Desktop PC or Laptop

Recommended Posts

Basically I'm going for a gaming PC/Laptop.

My current PC Specs are:

Intel® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz

6GB RAM

GeForce GTS 250

I'm currently tore between a Alienware Laptop which has:

i7 Processor 2760QM (2.40Ghz, 6MB, 4C)

Windows 7

1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M

16384MB (4x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel

(Altogether around about £2,200)

Or a Alienware Desktop with:

Intel® Core™ i7-3820 (Four Core, 10MB Cache) 3.60GHz

1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 555

Windows 7

16384MB (4x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Quad Channel

(£1,700)

Now this is the problem i have. I would prefer the laptop for the whole advantage of the portable ske-dabble. However, is it worth shelling out £500 more, with that amount of difference in CPU? How much better is that laptops CPU then my current CPU? Thanks a lot!

First off all do not bother with Alienware, you're paying a healthy mark-up just for the brand name, secondly you need to ask yourself how often would you take advantage of playing FM while out & about with your laptop, the extra cost & drop off in performance needs to be justified with a good percentage of play while on the move.

Edit: There is a third option, if you go for the desktop route have you considered overclocking your 930? It has bags of potential & could easily see you right for the next few years.

Edit 2: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php , the mobile chip is not significantly more powerful than the desktop 930.

alienware are for people with lots of money and and extreme lack of sense...

you can get the same specs on systems 40%-50% cheaper sometimes....

its just silly...

i'd always pick a desktop over a laptop unless you desperately needed fm on the go..

desktops are easily managed and you get much more bang for your buck...

plus theres the whole reliability issues with laptops in general...
