League / Domestic Cups
My 2nd season in the BSP started well, with 3 wins from 4 games, but after that everything went sour, and whilst I was never in danger of entering the relegation zone, I was also never in danger of challenging for a playoff spot, and ended the season a mediocre 14th - it's safe to say my 'original' players are starting to deteriorate (with some exceptions), and my youth players are just not improving fast enough to replace them.
2014 League Table and Graph
There was also nothing to note in the domestic cups, with the team being knocked out of the 1st round of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy.
Star Players
Fan's Player of the Year - Oliver Nicholas
For the 2nd time in 3 seasons, 22 year old Eritrean defender Nicholas has picked up the Fan's Player of the Year award, and is now by far the best player in the squad, and one of the few 'original' players that has keep on improving (although at 22 you'd expect him to). Continues to have interest from other clubs, with clubs from Finland, Turkey, Spain and German all interested in him - although he still has 2 years to run on his contract, and I plan on extending that to 5.
Most Promising U18 Player - Daniel Leary
As per usual, the U18 squad didn't produce any gems, however 18 year old right back Daniel Leary was probably the best of a bad bunch, with good physical attributes, and even mentioned 2 senior appearances due to injury - however will need to keep improving if he wants to cement a spot in the senior squad.
2014 Seasonal Best XI and Overall Best XI
Finances / Facilities
No cup runs of note means the club recorded a $300k loss for the season, and the bank balance is back down to $75k - guess I'll have to wait a while longer before I can even think of improving my 'basic' youth facilities (of course I could always use the pre-season friendly exploit to get some cash, but I'd rather not unless I have to).
2014 Finances
Training Facilities: Adequate
Youth Facilities: Basic
Youth Recruitment: Basic
So, after a promising season last year, this was... not promising - in fact quite the opposite. With my original squad starting to age and decline in quality, I really need to start to find some youth players to step up if I am ever going to earn promotion into the football league - where hopefully I can start generating a profit year on year. Let's see if next season is any better.

Grrr, getting alot of injuries and players asking for first team football. One bonus is I'm into the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Joe Hessenthaler YP3) - Coach Report
Last edited by Tony Hawker; 05-04-2012 at 14:14.
Well, looks like I am going to need it. Worked my way through the usual new save tasks of reviewing my staff, realizing they suck, and trying to find adequate replacements. I was over the Board's suggested coach count (3), and they would not budge and increase it. So I fired my youth coach (I have no non-grey youths) and my first-team coach (we can't afford to be picky, you need to train them all) after negotiating new, shorter contracts with them to lower the cost of mutual termination. In keeping with the physical nature of lower league games, I brought in a 3 1/2 star fitness coach with decent side skills.
The soul-sucking money spinner friendlies are over, and I was mercilessly beaten by the near-upper echelons of English and Scottish soccer. Fortunately, my humiliations were televised, and I sit on a decent balance to cover costs of operating this year. The season prep (and morale repair) part of the off-season is underway with a solid 5-2 win against a lower division minnow. Jamil Adam opened his tally with a couple, and the team looks generally decent. Hopefully my 3 physios (the Board, thankfully, saw the wisdom in not having lots of injuries this season) will keep the injuries to a minimum.
On the not-so-awesome front, one of my non-contract veteran defensive stalwarts got pissed off that I wanted to secure him on a part-time contract (huh?). He was consequently poached by fellow promotee Redditch, despite my best efforts to entice him to stay by indulging his dreams of becoming a scout. A week later, everyone is willing to negotiate. I guess I was too eager? With the lack of ability to bring people in, this is the sort of thing that will kill the first season, so hopefully I can fend off any other interest until March rolls around.
Surprisingly, the Board agreed to a junior coaching improvement right off the bat, so we are now at adequate. No dice on the youth recruitment of course, and I am not eager to sink money into the training facilities until we have some depth of talent worth spending money on =)
I have to say, it's sort of nice not having to scout and look for squad improvements. Certainly makes this save move a lot faster than my usual Southampton one! Now I am just itching to get the season proper underway.
Alright, I'll shut up and get on with it =) Cheers for starting up this challenge, Ri916! Good luck to everyone.
Edit: Dear lord, that was a lot of typos and unfinished sentences.

Minimum squad size of 9 players... I only have 9 non U21s in my squad. Lucky stuff!
Well March 13th is here.... and here is the Youth Intake
To say that I am a bit shocked at the amount of strikers is an understatement.
Richie Dixon (YP1)
Greg Patel (YP2)
These are the two who get the YP tags from me, and they both have the potential to be good BSP strikers.
Now to try to win the league.
stothy- although under 21s dont initally count, you can set them to be part of the registered players if you click and select in.

Kinda released all of my youth intake for my first season in the Championship![]()
This youth intake, what is it? Damn me not having much in terms of youth facilties and recruitment. I only have £12k in the bank and I'm slowly falling down the league. Mid-table could be the best that we can afford. Oh and I have no goalkeeper, no youth intake and morale is battered.
Well here we are againand i finally got my first youth, not superstars of cours but 2 promissing players
Youth Intake
Most promissing Still don't know what to make it MC or ST
Drew. Lowestoft Town. The Championship. 2024/2025
Table - Survival, that's what we wanted, and that's what we got, we didn't score as much goals as everyone else, but we didn't concede that much, which is quite pleasing.
Squad
Ollie Driver YP5 not the best, but he'll do as a squad player.
Christian Frew YP6 again, not the best but he'll do as a squad player next season.
Kenny Stockwell YP7 once again only used as a squad player, and will be for next season.
Luke Southgate YP9 hardly used, and will be a backup for next season.
Ollie Hooper YP10 solid enough, will be looking for more of the same next season.
Ben Evans YP11 the youngster done well notching 15 goals, I will be hoping for more of the same next season.
Jordan Parker YP12 impressive season from the youngster.
Jimmy Parnaby YP13 very impressed with this kid, had Charlton look at him over the summer, but a new contract scared them away.
Geoff Bastow YP14 will try and give him some games next season, or send him out on loan.
Kerry Carney YP15 just with Bastow, will try and give Kerry some games, or send him out on loan.
Finances we always end the season in the red, but work our way to black before the season starts, this year, the board have decided to add 2.7k seats at a cost of £3.2m, which means we will be losing £500k a month until the summer, which means it will be a couple of seasons before we can improve any facilities, unless we get taken over of course.
Proof that I haven't cheated

Drew- Well done on staying upnext season I think you can push for a top half finish. Was your intake rubbish or did you just accidentally release them?
Youth Intake - March 2020
Oliver Aldu - Excited by him. Reports suggest he could be a good Premier Division striker and even though I have a few of those already I reckon I can fit him in!
Garry Doherty - Great technical stats from the youngster and if I can get his physical stats up then he'll be great for us. Here's his report.
Can I swap Aldu for all the ball winning midfielders that are coming though my youth team please?
Hastings United - Blue Square South - 2014/2015
League Table - Improved another 2 places and up to 13th.
FA Cup - Another amazing cup run saw us lose in the 3rd round 3-0 to Bolton.
FA Trophy - A bad showing in this competition losing in the 1st round to Eastbourne Boro.
Squad - Our strike force is very good, our defence however is still quite leaky.
Youth Players:
Jason Tillen (YP1) - 27 goals in 51 appearances added with 17 assists, he's breaking club records.
Jason Lancashire (YP2a) - A solid if unspectacular season getting 44 appearances.
Steven Clayton (YP2b) - Same as Jason Lancashire, solid and almost getting an average rating of 7.00.
Ant Younghusband (YP2c) - Managed to score 9 goals as well as getting 10 assists, good season.
Joe Hessenthaler (YP3) - Only managed 1 goal in 8 but putting him on some quickness training.

Tony Hawker- A good season there and I think Hastings will be ready for the BSP in a couple of years.
Northwich Victoria - Blue Square North - 2012/2013
League - I was pleased that we managed to make the play-offs but was disappointed that we threw away a 3-1 lead in the first leg against Darlington to go on and lose 5-4 on aggregate in the Play-off semi.
FA Cup - A great cup run saw us make the 3rd round where we lost to Blackpool but this run brought us in some profit which is always good
FA Trophy - Not so great, only made the 1st round.
Key Players
Top Goalscorer - Leighton McGivern
Player of the Year - Jerry Nnamani
Youth Intake
A poor youth intake in my opinion and none of them were good enough to make the first team but I chose 2 to give YP tags to who I thought could go on to be good players.
YP1 - GK - A much needed keeper as I had previously only had 1 keeper in the entire squad. I should hopefully give him some games during the course of next season. 4.5* Potential
YP2 - D/WB(L) - Should get a few games next season. 4* Potential
Transfers - The player was signed before I joined.

Jcoll- a good season and you were unlucky to go out of the playoffs after the first leg.
Heh, in the same boat here Avramski with my BSP Weymouth team.
Just had my first youth intake with my 'excellent' junior coaching and the price tag that comes with it, and underwhelmed
Guess you cannot win the youth intake lottery every year, but I was hoping for more with my more expensive tickets![]()
I'm in the play-off final again! Hopefully I'll be off to the Championship in just one match time!
Edit: 1-1 into extra time!
HAHA YES! 2-1 with seconds left!
What a match! So tense. When one of our guys was sent off I thought we blew it, never mind when the second was sent off, but I kept 3 upfront and just told everyone to pump it up and play more directly (basically telling them to forget about the midfield and get it to the strikers) and it worked! Wow. Still in amazement that we did it..

have improved junior coaching to 'average' at start of second season, should hopefully get me some good youth in march. The board are also searching for a Parent Club which could bring in more money to help with facility upgrades.
Gonna start this challenge now with a view to playing it solidly until the next game comes out.

Will post a picture of the facilities soon. First season update shouldn't be too long in coming because I can bomb through the seasons about 2 a day.

My 3rd season in the BSP was another struggle, and by Christmas I had dropped into the relegation zone, which was a real worry! I managed to pick up the form a bit in the second half of the season, and even get some game time into some of my 19-20 year olds, but finished up a disappointing 16th, my lowest finish in the BSP yet!
2015 League Table and Graph
However, there was on highlight this season, and that is the team's performance in the FA Trophy where, after 2 replays, and a penalty shootout win in the semi final, I made the FA Trophy final against Gainsborough, who were 17th in the BSP. The final was a close game, but my boys finally managed to find some form, and in front of 22,263 people, they won 3-1 to take home the FA Trophy!
2015 FA Trophy Final
Star Players
Fan's Player of the Year - Oliver Nicholas
23 year old Eritrean defender Nicholas was once again the shining light in an otherwise ordinary squad, taking home the Fan's Player of the Year award for the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons, with 8 goals, 3 assists and 9 MoM at 7.26 from 47 appearances - the only player to average over 7 this season. He now has interest from clubs around the world, but seems happy to extend his contract each year, so I should be able to hold on to him for a while longer.
Most Promising U18 Player - Paul McGowan
Whilst several of my 19 and 20 year olds got quite a bit of game time, the U18s didn't get much of a look in. 18 year old striker McGowan only made one substitute appearance, however it was in the 2nd leg of the FA Trophy Semi-Final, and the young striker managed to score 2 goals in 40 minutes to keep Sutton United in the game. Whilst his attributes are nothing special, I simply have to give him a bit more game time next season given how he performed in the one opportunity I gave him this season
2015 Seasonal Best XI and Overall Best XI
Finances / Facilities
Despite stellar cup runs, which saw me reach the 3rd Round of the FA Cup and win the FA Trophy, the side only made a profit of $60k, to bring the total balance up to a poultry 120k - no where near what is needed to improve the facilities. I fear that the only way I'll make enough profit to improve the facilities is to earn promotion to League 2, but the only way to earn promotion to League 2 is to get decent youth players... a vicious cycle.

mthielen- Congratulations on your promotion. Next year is going to be harder but hopefully you can pull through.
Northwich Victoria - Blue Square North - 2013/2014

Key Players

Youth Intake
Lots of Potential this year with 5 of them getting tags, a much improved intake from last year.
YP3 - AM(C) - The best out of the lot with regards ability, might have to make a position for him in the team next year. 5* Potential
YP4 - M(R),AM(RL),ST - A much needed right winger who is also very versatile. 5* Potential
YP5 - GK - The Assisant reckons he's better than YP1 so should get some games next year. 5* Potential
YP6 - DM,M(C) - He Strengthens the middle of the park and gives me a creative option there. 5* Potential
YP7 - DC - Has got good stats already, so he could feature next season. 5* Potential
Youth Tags
YP1 - He got a lot of games this season, because I wanted to develop him. He did alright but I think YP5 might take his place next season.
YP2 - He improved massively and was tutored to great effect. He only got 12 games but can hopefully keep developing into my starting LB.
Transfers
thnx Ri, i know it's going to be hard i just hope to stay up.
I think my current tactic isn't gonna cut it in BSP, gonna try the first few games and see how i works out, but i'll probbly have to change tactics
Looking quite easy 1/2 way through the season. My kamikaze tactic wasn't so great as we just kept drawing 0-0. Then I changed the tactics and made them a bit more adventurous, started pumping the long ball a little bit and telling my players to get stuck in and now we are closer to the playoffs on boxing day...
Last edited by Unknown Hacker; 06-04-2012 at 11:49.
jcoll- A very nice youth intake there. I'm sure you will break the playoffs next season.
OK guys, I got a bit over-anxious to sign a particular intake player called Jack Maguire and accidentally made a bid for him. He started his career in my youth intake anyway so it shouldn't matter but I just thought I'd let everyone know that that is why his name appears in the transfers tab...
EDIT: Never mind. False alarm.![]()
Hacker- Why would he appear in the transfers tab? if you just offered him a contract then he shouldnt appear in there.
ha ha lol. Not to worry.
Not going well in L2! Last match 7 CCC to their 0 and I lost 2-1 .... not happy!
I think I know where this is going.![]()
Drew- Show us the intake! :P
AND FINALLY! After 12 games without a win I got one!

Youth Intake
Tony Douglas erm yeah, I've had a few talented players come through the ranks over the years, but nothing like this before, the coach report didn't say anything, but the fact that Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs are after him suggest he is pretty decent and has a superb future ahead of him.
Ryan Cruse another talented youngster, has the potential to be a good Premier Division defender, and is already better than most of my other centre backs![]()
Oh wow.. he is good!
Drew- That intake aint to shabby I'd say. pity the 17 heading wasnt a 17 finishing or pace though.
Drew, he looks like the next Alan Shearer :P
Hmm, my FA Cup run, while good is rather tough. I needed a replay to beat L1 Scunthorpe United (who have a 26 year old striker called Connor Wickham). That setup a 2nd round tie against Crystal Palace at home. That match was then put back 24 hours and televised and finished 0-0. The winner of the replay gets a home tie against Man City ....
surprised to see conor wickham down in league 1. Isnt he supposed to be a bright prospect?
That explains it then, target men are sh*t in FM
Scunny signed him the previous season when they were in the Championship, but in this save, he's not done a lot. I'll get a few screenies about him posted shortly. And yes, I was surprised to see him
Oh wow.... Believe it or not, at this mid point of the season my team is both the top scoring and the top conceding! Let's work on defensive positioning then![]()
I must say that I was hoping for a better one, but maybe it's beause of the shocking facilities.
Youth Intake- Not very good, except for the one stand out player.
Alex Daly YP01- A bright prospect inbetween the sticks.
Chester Season 2012-13
Final League Table Boy was it close. Very close. Closer than I would have wanted. But we did it. Mainly thanks to this stunning victory over Corby.
The cups aren't worth talking about, so I won't!
Key Players
Yann Nsaku - This guy was an absolute rock at the back, as well as his partner Radford. Not only did he keep them out at one end, but he was our third top scorer in the league with 11.
Jerome Wright - The player of the season, by a country mile. He was superb down the left, our joint top scorer in the league as well as the most assists. He will be vital next year.
Youth Players
Greg Patel (YP2) - Gave him a few games when I got him, managed to get a goal, making him Chester's youngest ever scorer. Unfortunately he got a injury so took no further part in the season.
Richie Dixon (YP1) - Unfortunately Richie played no games, but I certainly hope to use him in a few games next year to help him improve.
Facilities
Managed to gain a few upgrades this year, including Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment. However, the most important was the Youth Facilities upgrade, so I must make sure we have enough money for this to take place.
Transfers - I would never cheat!
Next Season - The main aim is too survive! Hopefully the youth facilities upgrade goes through, and hopefully either Patel or Dixon will get some goals, that was something which are other strikers lack regularly.
EDIT: Oh Dear.... Not good! Hopefully i can get them upgraded next season instead.
Last edited by Goldyrulz; 06-04-2012 at 16:29. Reason: Bad news....
Goldyrulz- Congrats on promotion with chester there. As for the facility upgrade being scrapped, dont worry to much. Youth recruitment is much more important as that affects the quality of youths coming through. Youth facilities only effects how they are trained while on a youth contract.
Drew. Lowestoft Town. The Championship. 2025/2026
Table - We survived again, but were worse off than last season, our defence was okay, but we could not hit a barn door from ten feet, very poor from our strikers and attacking players.
Squad missed last seasons, but our strikers had less than 10 goals each.
Christian Frew YP6 poor season, and has been getting worse over the months, will look to release him next season, he's on big wages as well.
Kenny Stockwell YP7 played okay, again will be a squad player for next season.
Ollie Hooper YP10 decent season, one of the first names on the team sheet, hopefully more of the same next season.
Ben Evans YP11 had a poor season, coupled with YP16's emergence and me using one striker in my formation's, he'll be a squad player next season.
Jordan Parker YP12 had a decent season, more of the same for next season please.
Jimmy Parnaby Yp13 solid season, had some mild interest in him earlier in the season, but that subsided once a new contract was agreed.
Geoff Bastow YP14 was decent in the few games he was given, will be sent out on loan next season though.

Connor Wickham at Scunthorpe, and proof he's not done a lot in his career.
First Season at Carshalton
League Table
Positions Graph
Average start characterised by a lot of 0-0 draws and 1-0 defeats. Little formation change sorted everything out and we went on an incredible and unforeseen run of draws and wins which eventually got us to a playoff spot. If we'd've won our last game of the season we would have been promoted as league winners but we contrived to lose it to already relegated St. Albans at home 3-1. So it was down to the lottery of the playoffs where we were to play a team who we hadn't beaten all year.
Leg 1
Totally controlled the home leg of the playoffs as the graphic shows. Nothing much to say about it really.
Leg 2
Horrible bitty game, we lived on edge for most of it as the stats may or may not show. Funny part was at the end when their keeper was sent off for handling outside of the area.
So we moved on to the final. At home against Dorchester.
We won 3-1
Lovely stuff. Came from a goal down too...

No cheating here...
Cups were a waste of time. Lost to Blyth in one and Romford in another, both away.
No upgrades to facilities due to lack of funds.
Goals
Staying up will be near impossible so I'm going to give the youth a chance and also drop the wage bill somewhat. I'll post updates on my best youth prospects next season, they are the top two players in the Youth Squad.
This is getting bad, im in my 3rd season in BSN and just came off a 7-0 loss to Chester![]()
Drew- Well done on staying up again. You dont want to rush promotion to the EPL anyway as you will just get spanked if you go up to soon.
Hacker- Congrats on the playoff win. Dont give up on staying in the BSP as I think you can do it![]()
It's going to be very hard. My kamikaze tactics have led to me being very much bottom of the pile after 11 games...
Arghh! I virtually playing with a team Of blue square regional players in League 2!
Season 2019/20 - Carshalton Atheltic
League Table - Wow! What a season. The team played amazingly well with it coming down to playing Middlesborough at Wembley to get promoted. The match lived up to the season, it was annoying and disappointing to begin with but got better and better throughout. It was a great final, really exciting, and I'm delighted to be up. But a bit worried at the same time. I don't think my squad is good enough for Championship and I just lost one of my main strikers as he refused to sign a new contract (no clubs were interested in him, he just refused to continue at Carshalton..) and I think it will definitely be a tough season.
Squad - Most of them are above 7.00 as an average and the standout has to be Lee James YP10, a recent youth product, who was on fire all season.
Ross Hale YP03 - Played well. I changed my formation to a narrow 4-3-3 which meant he had to play CM but didn't do too badly. I think Championship will be out of his depth.
Josh Humphrey YP04 - Did alright. I have no other decent keeper so he is automatically first choice. Conceded a few too many for my liking.
Josh Brazier YP06 - Did well, but he is leaving us at the end of the season as he refuses to sign a new contract.
Ibrahim Tran YP07 - Amazing. One of my best players. His passing is now 17 and he is starting to set up more goals. He is also a regular for Morocco's U21s and for most of the season the coach reports said he was easily good enough for Championship never mind League 1.
Kelly Moore YP08 - Played a lot more this season. Can play CB as well as RB and is the best in the team at both positions. Pleased with him.
Warren Galbraith YP09 - Meh. When he played he scored but I had 3 better options up front.
Lee James YP10 - Wow. What a player. He had an astonishingly good season with something like 43 goals in 50 odd appearances. Predicted to be a good PL striker, it's going to be tough holding on to him.
Finances - Very worrying. It's mostly down to the Youth Setup but hopefully TV rights and sponsorship in the Championship will help keep us in the black. Oh and of course some money spinning friendlies!
Transfers - Not Guilty

TWFL- a-maz-ing! I must say though, you have been rather fortunate in the playoffs! some great prospects coming through now and hopefully you will stay up.
I've had some ridiculous play-off matches, Middlesborough being the highlight! It's all going to come crashing down on me soon enough: we're in debt, really struggling in the Championship, can't renew some of my best players' contracts. I think I've done it too soon but we'll see.
Oxford City - Season 1 - 2012/13
League Table- WOW. I didnt expect this. My only aim was to avoid relegation and we completely surpassed that aim, doubling the points we needed to avoid the drop. We were in and around the playoffs but we didnt have enough to stay in them.
Squad- As you can see, we were a one man team. Felipe Barcelos was an amazing poacher grabbing 32 goals. Paul lawless also deserves a shout out with 12 goals from midfield.
Key Player- Felipe Barcelos. His goals fired us to a brilliant campaign. I have signed him up for the next 3 years, but boy was he expensive! 600 quid a week!
Alex Daly YP01- Got a few games, but not enough really. I will make him first choice next season and hopefully he will improve.
Finances- 72k in the bank which I hope to boost in the summer with some sumptuous friendlies.
An unbelievable season for Oxford City. 7th place in the league for a team tipped to go down in last place is outstanding. I believe you should always be positive so Im going for the playoffs next season but I wouldnt be surprised if we were in the bottom half of the table.

Toonbalmy- Congratulations on getting promoted. League 1 will be tough, but I think you can survive.
Is it bad that despite being bottom at Christmas I am now eyeing up playoffs because I don't believe we are only 6 points off them? Comeback of the season!
Well done Toon, keep it upGood luck for League 1
Sorry i've been away guys, would have been on other day, but had an 18 hour power cut! Going to do my end of season report finally.
Northwich Victoria - BSP 2019/20
Basically a disaster. I did have hope that I could have a fairly successful season after we won 2 and drew the other 2 games in our first 4 matches, including 3 clean sheets! Alas, it wasn't to be ....

Out of all my players, only Les Beck played to a decent standard, scoring 22 in 46 games, 5 assists and 6 MoM awards with a rating of 7.12
Even with exceptional junior coaching and basic youth recruitment, my youth intake wasn't highly impressive, although there are several decent prospects, including a playmaking midfielder, something I've been needing for a while! Paul Whicher (report card) and Martyn Howson (report card) are my 2 best prospects from the intake so, they got the YP tags this season.
I had a good, but very tough run in the FA Cup saw us reach the 3rd round before getting mullered 4-0 by Man City. The only problem was that this was at home, and not in Manchester, so no huge pay day to fill the coffers....

My chairman is pretty good wit me tbh If I ask for anything n he says no I say he ain't showing enough ambition then he just accepts wat I wantedoh wen I need a new contract I make sure i get 2 or 3 years contract
In a shock announcement, newly promoted Harrow Borough have named David Perks as their new manager. While David is a fomer footballer himself, having played previously for Brigg Town, he hasn't been involved in the sport for a number of years now.
