Awful performance, first loss of the league season and a first domestic defeat at home in my entire career. We're playing nine games in December, and I think tiredness got the better of us. Fraser Robinson with our goal.

WPL Haverfordwest 4-0 Aberystwyth
Very happy with this response. Much better after I read the riot act at the end of the last game, and goals from Rooney, Richards, Hopkinson and OG put us back on track.

WPL Afan Lido 0-1 Haverfordwest
Pretty poor performance, but Steven Richards' 25th of the season secured another three points.

Mid season report 2016/17

What a season so far, could be my best yet of this career. Although we didn't make the Champions League this time, progressing through the Group Stage of the Europa League is going to give our reputation a nice little boost, which hopefully means we'll be a more attractive proposition for players. The bit of cash I spent in the summer has certainly helped, with both Bradley and Morgan really improving the side. I'm expecting January to be quiet, but who knows?

As for our domestic form, I can't complain. Into the final of the League Cup, still in the Welsh Cup and flying at the top of the table, my only disappointment was losing that long unbeaten home record to bloody Bala of all sides (our first defeat against them in 18 games!) Still, that's a fairly minor complaint really...here's the league table:

Off the pitch, things are looking good. Still have plenty of money in the bank, with the stadium upgraded, the youth facilities up to a good standard, and the training ground in the planning process. Happy days...

Sweet, sweet revenge. A hat-trick from Tim Hopkinson (the first goal being his 150th for the club) and one each for Richards, Garton and Bradley.

A goal for all three strikers (Hopkinson, Garton, Richards) send us nicely through.

A good month then, although we did lose Morgan to Bohemians in the end. Very frustrating, but there we go.

The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

A second cup final against Port Talbot then, the side who had beaten me just three days prior and have had a really good season, sat in 3rd in the league. I've a pretty decent record against them, with just 4 defeats in 20 matches, but this is their 4th Cup Final appearance in my career. Could be an interesting one... Luckily after making my changes for the league game, most of my squad are in perfect condition, so we've every chance of securing a second trophy of the season, and a fourth League Cup of my career.

First half

Not much to report other than constant pressure. Tim Hopkinson also had a goal ruled out by the referee's assistant's flag, but other than that it's been pretty dull.

Had a touchline ban for this one after criticism of the ref in the cup final. My assistant is quite reliable though, and Loy, Richards and Robinson secured the win. Richards' goal was his 100th for the club.

So just a week after the painful penalty defeat, we have another opportunity for silverware. Not going to comment on this cup final in case I jinx it! Squad wise, everybody is fit other than Sam Garton (injured) and Rory Loy (suspended).

First half

Chillingly similar to the league cup, we had an early Tim Hopkinson goal ruled out. Very much on top again, but nothing to show for it.

Half time: Haverfordwest 0-0 Goytre United

Second half

Relief. Two Danny Murphy crosses met by Tim Hopkinson, both found the back of the net for his 30th and 31st of the season. Ghosts of the week before exorcised, a fifth Welsh Cup won.

It's definitely early August, I can't remember the exact date mind. It's caught me out a couple of times, especially when I signed Basham (his birthday was the end of July, which I thought would be fine!)

Positives

This has probably been my best season to date, with qualification through the group stages of the Europa League as the clear highlight. Getting those two results against PSG have perhaps been the best results of my time playing FM11. Winning two of the three trophies is always a bonus again, just a shame I couldn't secure the treble thanks to another penalty shoot out. Ah well. My new signings gelled pretty well too, so all in all the club is in a pretty healthy state.

Concerns

The chairman. Selling Morgan at such a crucial time was extremely frustrating, and it wasn't exactly mega bucks he sold him for. I'd paid £500,000 for him, so it was less than double of what I'd paid. Extremely disappointing, especially as he was a major reason for our improvement in Europe. In other news I've already said I'm considering my position at the moment, and I've just about come to a decision.

Just to offer a couple of other details, Villa finished 12th in the PL last year, are worth £55m with £105m worth of debt. Sheff United finished 3rd in the Championship and have £43m worth of debt with a value of £18.5m. Both of them look like there's going to be an issue financially in the not too distant future...

As for Newcastle's debt, they had major problems. It'd probably take 4 or 5 years of Champions League football, let alone Championship football!

Cheers, man. It was more the league that was the problem, to be honest. I was able to attract a few quality players, hence the European run, but in 7 seasons (224 league games) I only lost 20 league games. Ultimately that wore me down, so I wanted a new challenge. Hopefully I'll get that at Everton.

As for Genie Scout, I'll have to offer my best Manuel impression..."Que?" Not got a clue what that is, fella!

Everton FC: Season preview 2017/18

Board expectation: qualify for Europe

Upon arriving at the club, my first job was to appoint a new assistant manager as the old one left with Steve Round. Luckily, my old assistant from Haverfordwest had left with me, so I thought it would be realistic to bring him with me, especially as he's been my assistant since 2011. Hopefully it'll be a Clough/Taylor thing! I also signed my old goalkeeper coach, but that's been it as Everton already have a massive backroom team. In other news, we've also managed to get Trabzonspor as a feeder team, which gives us a decent club to send our youngsters to.

It's not been the busiest of transfer windows at Goodison Park, largely because I want to give the players already at the club a chance. However, I did want to add a little quality, and that costs money so I've spent a bit. Well, I say a bit, but I mean A LOT, £29m to be exact, on just two players. Considering I don't normally play at this level, it's very unusual for me to spend anything, so spending that on two players is most unlike me! The top one at £16.5m is 21 year old Polish striker Lukasz Mihalowski, who arrived from Panathinaikos. The other was 25 year old Italian midfielder Daniel Kofi Agyei for £12.5m from Palermo. Anyway, I'm hoping both will be brilliant. I've also signed Brazilian midfielder Bernardo on a free from Dynamo Kyiv, and I'm still scouring the Bosman market now.

Friendlies

Everton 4-0 Everton Reserves
Before the trip to South America we have two other friendlies, the first is a quick game against our reserves. A good win too, largely thanks to Michalowski. He scored 2 and made two more for Mark James and Jack Rodwell in a very comfortable win.

Dundee United 1-3 Everton
A decent test in Scotland, and one we just about passed. Goals from Bernardo, Fellaini and Michalowski settled things.

River Plate 0-2 Everton
A much deserved win thanks to Michalowski and midfielder Vukcic.

Estudiantes 0-2 Everton
The two new boys on the score sheet, Michalowski (again) and Bernardo with the goals.

Velez Sarsfield 0-4 Everton
Our tour of Argentina rounded off with the hammering of Velez. A hat-trick from Michalowski and one from Gueye was a great way to finish.

CD Everton de Vina del Mar 0-6 Everton
This was a walk in the park. New Portuguese striker Nelson Olivera, who'd signed for £10m from Aston Villa the day before scored the first, two more from Michalowski and THREE own goals secured our final warm up victory.

PL Everton 5-2 Aston Villa
A perfect first half in my opening league game. Nelson Olivera put us in front after 30 seconds against his former club, before Michalowski scored 2 and Jordan Spence rolled in from three yards for 4-0. Second half Villa pulled 2 back as we started very slowly, but substitute Magaye Gueye scored a fifth to finish in style.

PL Burnley 0-1 Everton
Just the one goal in this one, although there were bags of chances. Michalowski got it after 35mins. We did however lose influential midfielder Bernardo for 4 months to a torn calf.

League Cup
Bradford 0-3 Everton
Banana skin overcome thanks to Oliveira, Spence and midfielder Matt James. Oh, and if you're wondering why Michalowski didn't score, it's because I left him out...

PL Everton 4-2 Arsenal
A double from Michalowski, one from Fellaini and another from Real Madrid target Jack Rodwell gives us a brilliant win against the early leaders.

PL Wolves 1-2 Everton
Awful performance, yet somehow we got the win. 1-0 down to a goal from a striker I sold upon arrival, we were still behind with 15 to play. However, ultimately we sneaked a win with goals from Vuckic and a Michalowski penalty.

PL Chelsea 2-3 Everton
Mental match. I decided to change my shape for this one, trying to use the wide pitch my scout told me about. Rather than my normal 4-3-1-2, I instead played 4-3-2-1, with two wingers pushing up to support Michalowski. It started like a dream, first half we went two up through an own goal and a header from Fatic. Early second half we imploded though, and within 10 minutes it was 2-2, so I made two changes and went back to my normal shape, and one of those subs Nelson Oliveira grabbed the winner.

League Cup
Leeds United 2-0 Everton
I made several changes for this one ahead of the weekend PL game, and we were simply awful. Lucky to get nil.

PL Everton 1-2 Manchester City
Really disappointing, we just didn't show up. Nelson Oliverira levelled after an hour, but City ultimately had too much. For some reason we were favourites before kick off too.

A great recovery after the City match. Goals from Vuckic, Oliveira, Michalowski (2) and Agyei sealed a huge win.

PL Everton 0-1 Blackpool
Second successive home defeat, and we got exactly what we deserved too. Hmm.

PL Bristol City 1-2 Everton
A goal apiece from Oliveira and Michalowski gives us another win away from home.

A much better home performance, with two from Michalowski and a screamer from Fellaini.

PL Sunderland 1-1 Everton
A disappointing draw at the struggling Black Cats. Michalowski put us in front, but an OG from Vincent Kompany 5min from time gave them a share of the spoils.

PL Everton 5-1 Blackburn
2 from Nelson Oliveira put us on our way, then Fellaini and an OG really rubbed it in. Despite them pulling one back, a stunning free kick from 35 yards from Fatic secured a fantastic win. Just a pity we couldn't keep a clean sheet.

PL Tottenham 1-4 Everton
Wow, another huge win. Spurs are having an awful season. and they just couldn't cope with Oliveira. He scored 2 and made one for Vuckic, and then a Michalowski header was turned into the net by their keeper.

I take that tumbleweed as a no! Having a bit of a crisis of faith in this save anyway, so much so I'm considering starting again. Possibly in Wales again but with a few foreign leagues turned on to allow access to more players, or maybe somewhere entirely different. I love Mexican football, so that might be a decent place to start... or there's always Italy.

I hear ya. I play as the smaller underdog as well and it often does not feel right when I have money to play with that I have not earned from building up a smaller club.


Btw, Genie scout is a program you can download that shows you all the stats behind everything in the game. Its kind of a cheap way of playing if you use it to its full capabilities. I only use it to check my reputation, team reputation and find coaches. Some would say the coach search is cheating, but I always find the best coaches available to me anyways, this way it just cuts down on the time it takes 4 hours to like 10mins haha.

A belter of a derby won by a stunning free kick and a penalty. Fatic with the first, and Michalowski sealed the points with a pen 15 minutes from time.

PL Fulham 0-2 Everton
One from Rodwell and another from Michalowski secured another win. Definitely in contention for those Champions League spots.

PL Leeds 2-1 Everton
Beaten by Leeds again, but I've no complaints. We just weren't good enough despite Oliverira briefly levelling.

PL Everton 3-1 Stoke
Really poor first half, but second half we were much better. 2 more from Oliveira and one from Mbiwa secured the points.

PL Peterborough 2-4 Everton
2 each for Michalowski and Oliveira ensured that the year ended with us up in third. Decent first half of the season, although we now face 2 games in 2 days... slight bug there!

Mid season report 2017/18

So far so good then with my move to England. I'd hoped to be in contention for European football, but to be up in the Champions League spots is a bit of a surprise. The form of the two new strikers has been instrumental to our early success, and with Michalowski already bagging 16 league goals, he's definitely earning his wages. Oliveira has been attracting some interest from Bayern Munich, but he's going absolutely nowhere. Still got a bit of work to do with the squad, but not bad for a first season.

Off the pitch we're carrying a fair amount of debt (£15m in the red) although the sale of Mounier for £9m in the next window will help matters.
