Default Lost in Iceland? I don't think so

Hello and welcome. This will be my first career that I am posting on this forum. I will be taking charge of my local team here in Iceland, Keflavík. Hopefully this will be a fun and interesting career. Should probably state that I'm not a big writer so don't expect huge updates!

Here is the database setup, I have only the Icelandic divisions loaded as my computer is not the best. I also have all players based in Iceland and from Iceland.

So here I sit as the new manager of Keflavík. They are a semi-professional club that play in the Icelandic Premier Division (Pepsideildin). Keflavík play their home games at Nettó-völlurinn that hold up to 4000 people (1100 seated). Keflavík's biggest rivals are Grindavík and with other rivals like Njarđvík and KR. Keflavík possess average training facilities and basic youth facilities. The finances are decent but nothing extreme.

    Manager Profile
    The Squad

My aims for this career is to make Keflavík the dominant force in Iceland and get Iceland known for something else than the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull and the Blue Lagoon.

Keflavík - 2011 Mid Season Update

Well we haven't been as consistent as I would have liked in the league. But it's all starting to click and we have 3 wins in a row in the league, we've had some unlucky losses in the league that could well have been wins. Hopefully our recent form wont slip and we continue to fight for a European spot.

IUC - Came 3rd in our Group and didn't qualify for the Semi-finals. Had a nice win like the 7-0 win over KA and the 5-1 win over HK.

Icelandic Cup - We started the cup in the 3rd round with a 3-0 over Reynir, a lower league club, in the 4th round we drew Breiđablik and won them comfortably 2-1. We proceeded to the Quarter-Finals were we drew Grindavík, our biggest rivals. Hopefully we will go all the way to the finals as i'd like to get some silverware the first season as I can't see us grabbing the league at this point.

    Keflavík - 2011 Season Review

    Icelandic Premier Division

The season started bad with two losses and two draws, we managed to pick yourself up a little bit and sat 3rd at the halfway point. After that the title was pretty much a certainty when we were 4 points ahead with two games left. Those games didn't go as planned and we drew 1-1 vs Fylkir and lost 3-2 vs Ţór but we snatched the title with 1 point over KR and Valur, who came 2nd and 3 respectively. Great to win the league in the first season and qualifying for the Champions Cup will hopefully bring more money into the club.

IUC - Came 3rd in our Group and didn't qualify for the Semi-finals. Had a nice win like the 7-0 win over KA and the 5-1 win over HK.

Icelandic Cup - Fell out in the Quarter-Final vs Grindavík on penalties.

    Transfers

    Finances

    Key Players

Deniran Ortega(ST) - A good debut season. He and Steinarsson worked well together upfront.

Gudmundur Steinarsson(ST) - Was joint top scorer in the league with Ortega. He wont be with us next season as he refused to sign a new contract.

Adam Larsson(DC) - The Swede did good in the defense but he was only on loan here at Keflavík so will go back to Mjällby AIF for next season.

Gudjón Andri Antoniusson(RB) - Good season for him and averaged a 7.12 rating.

Marco Ingrao(ML) - Fine season for the winger.

Yes I got a Youth Intake but the players went into the Reserve Team as there are no Youth Teams for Iceland in the game.

    Champions League

    Third Qualifying round

First leg: Keflavík 2 - 1 APOEL. An awesome win over the much much stronger team, we dominated the game in front of a full stadium.

    Second leg: APOEL 1 - 2 Keflavík.
Ortega gained the man of the match award after shooting two goals past the opponent. Great result for Keflavík.

    Champions League

    Champions Playoff

    First leg: Keflavík 2 - 0 Rangers.
Quality of possession more important than quantity? Didn't expect this at all! Unfortunately our star defender picked up his 5th yellow card and will miss the second leg at Ibrox Stadium.

Second leg: Rangers 2 - 2 Keflavík. A dream start with Ortega scoring in the first minute! Can't believe we are trough to the groups of the freakin' Champions League in our first try!

    Life sure is sweet

    Keflavík - 2012 Season Review

    Icelandic Premier Division

What a good season it was for Keflavík. After a poor showing in the IUC and the Champions Cup we managed to win the league with 2 games in hand and 11 points more than KR, who came 2nd. The league itself started slow with two draws in a row but after that we pretty much dominated the league and only lost two games in the league which I think is pretty good. Now we have won the League two years in a row.

IUC - Another poor performance this year.

Icelandic Cup - Lost 2-3 to Selfoss in the 3rd Round.

Champions League - Proud of the team to reach all the way to the Group Stages. Winning the Scottish giants, Rangers on the way. The groups went pretty much as expected and I finished 4th. Really delighted with the surprise 2-1 win over Benfica. Here is the Group Table.

    Fixtures 1 | Fixtures 2

    Transfers

Finances - After reaching the Group Stages of CL we got around Ł6,000,000 and some of that money went into this.

    Key Players

Jainudeen Nongwele(MC) - A transfer we have been waiting for since quite awhile, he came in the August transfer window and despite playing only a small amount of games he deserves a spot here as he played magnificently in the midfield making 8 assists in 7 league games

    Deniran Ortega(ST)
    - He was injured for the first part of the season but he was our best striker with 16 goals.

    Sandy Paillot(DC)
    - What a player! A heading god and scored a massive 16 goals with his head. He also isn't too shabby in the art of defending .

Sekou Ouatarra(DC) - Was Sandy's partner in the defense and did great.

Your CL results are a lot more respectable than mine. I lost 7-0 in Portugal, but I held them to 0-0 on my lumpy icefield.

Kudos on the the Youth Facilities. My chairman bought me a brand spanking new stadium (bigger than Laugardalsvöllur) with my CL money, unimaginatively named HK Stadium... though I think HK-völlur (I'm led to believe völlur means field, or something along those lines, in Icelandic) would be more appropriate.

It's possible to get a ground named after your manager if you hang in for long enough and acquire legendary status. That's an achievement I've always wanted to do, yet never managed. Probably my ultimate FM target...

That and a son. You should at least have a few options given how often it just picks the club name.

    Transfers

Lee Naylor - Brought in as a Player/Fitness Coach. He's 32 years old so I'm expecting him to become a full coach next season but he will be decent enough DL position.

Julián Guzmán - Came in for Ł230K from a club in El Salvador. Despite being only 19 years old he is a good keeper and is set to have a bright future here in Iceland.

Maximiliano González - The clubs new record signing after paying a Ł1,000,000 compensation. What he lacks in pace he makes up for with his ridiculous team and work rate.

    Mads Laudrup
    - The son of who many believe to be the best player Denmark have ever produced, Michael Laudrup. He came on a free transfer after his contract ran out with HB Křge. Good player who can play on the left wing and in the middle.

    Champions League

    Second Qualifying round

First leg: Keflavík 3 - 1 Bóltfelagiđ B36. A solid 3-1 win. Would have liked to see more goals scored as we dominated them.

    Second leg: Bóltfelagiđ B36 0 - 6 Keflavík.
Again, we win with a larger margin. Good game.

    Champions League

    Third Qualifying round

First leg: Legia 2 - 3 Keflavík. We took the lead early in the 5th minute. Quite an even game and to get three away goals was nice.

    Second leg: Legia 2 - 2 Keflavík.
Legia might have been the better team but the game ended in a draw and Keflavík win 5-4 on aggregate.

Does the game take note of the extra cost traveling to a distant country? If so it might be good that I drew Rangers(2nd year in a row) in the Champions Playoff.

Here's hoping for 2 in a row against Rangers, though they won't be easy.

    Champions League

    Champions Playoff

    First leg: Keflavík 2 - 2 Rangers.
Shame it ended as a draw after conceding an own goal in the 91st minute.

Second leg: Rangers 5 - 2 Keflavík. Well, we got completely outplayed and the money that the group stages have to offer is out of the question.

Now for the Euro Cup group stages.

    Keflavík - 2013 Season Review

    Icelandic Premier Division

Another slow start to the season this year and we didn't get to the top of the table until the 13th game of the season.

IUC - Great win against KR in the Final. Finally we progressed trough the groups and went all the way this year.

Icelandic Cup - Lost on penalties vs HK in the third round.

Icelandic Champions Cup - The second Final game vs KR this season and we came out on top again.

Champions League - We lost in the playoffs after winning B36 and Legia in the qualifying rounds.

    Fixtures 1 | Fixtures 2

    Transfers

    Finances

    Key Players

    Maximiliano González(ST)
    - What a season for the 20 year old. 33 goals in 30 games and was the League Top Scorer with 15 goals.

    Sandy Paillot(DC)
    - Good season for the defender. He got injured during the latter part of the season but still managed to help the team with 11 goals in all competitions.

Jainudeen Nongwele(MC) - His first full season at the club and he did good.

Sorry. Besides that giant killing how are they doing in your save?

Really dominating now, you must be looking for an undefeated season soon.

Well they haven't been promoted yet . In 2012 they finished 5th and in 2013 at 3rd. Hopefully they will get promoted this season!

    Keflavík - 2013 Season Preview

    Friendly Results

    Board Expectations

Icelandic Premier Division - Win it. - Media Prediction - 1st.
    Icelandic Champions Cup
    - Win it.
    Icelandic Cup
    - Reach the finals.
    IUP -
    To be competitive.

    Budgets

    Transfer Budget -
    Ł208,808.
    Wage Budget -
    Ł26,318 p/w
    Current Wage Bill -
    Ł20,682 p/w

    Transfers

Sad to see that the chairman accepted a Ł1,500,000 bid from Rosenborg for our start defender, Sandy Paillot. At least we got an amazing profit for him as we got him for free.

    M
ario Alberto Pereira- Mario can play in the middle and on the right wing and is going to be our number one Right Winger. He came on a free transfer after being released by D.C United in the MLS. He has already started producing the goods and has 1 goal and 3 assist in just 4 games.

Wiljan Pluim - The Dutch attacking midfielder had been released by Roda JC and I picked him up as he looks like he could do a good job in the AM position.

As Flamers said its the Metallic logos. Although it's not the '12 pack its the 10' pack but the 12' should be the same.

    Champions League

    Second Qualifying round

First leg: Banants 0 - 5 Keflavík.Was a little worried going into this match as many key players were injured. Despite my worries we managed to win the game with ease and we got a good advantage in the home game.

    Second leg: Keflavík 3 - 1 Banants.
Solid win. We took the lead early and never looked like losing.

    Champions League

    Third Qualifying round

First leg: Keflavík 5 - 3 Rangers. What a game. We went under 0-3 but came back to 3-3 for half-time and ended up winning the match 5-3.

Second leg: Rangers 5 - 4 Keflavík. What the hell just happened!? 9 goals were scored and although we lost it was a hell of a game.

Cheers lads. In the playoffs I have drawn my own parent club, Rosenborg. Although I think that we can beat them it will still be tough couple of games. Expect an update shortly .

    Champions League

    Champions Playoff

First leg: Rosenborg 1 - 2 Keflavík. An even game. We took the lead in the first-half and went 2-0 up, at least we scored two away goals.

Second leg: Keflavík 3 - 1 Rosenborg. Rosenborg took the lead in the 17th minute but we came back to even it at the end of the first-half. The game was pretty even until we scored in the 83rd minute and again in the 86th.

And Keflavík are now back into the group stages of the Champions League

    Champions League

    Group Stage

Sporting (H) 4-4. The first half we got totally dominated and the score after the half time was 1-4. We managed to turn it around in the second half and we scored a late equalizer in the 90th minute.

Ajax (A) 3-2. The first half was pretty even and in the second half we managed to get the lead in a penalty after a mistake but Ajax responded with a goal from Ismail Aissati, it looked like we were going to have another draw until Ajax scored a goal in extra time.

    Manchester United (H) 1-4.
We never really had a chance against a what is really a much superior team. We got dominated from the start but at least we got a late consolation goal from Wiljan Plum.

Your Ajax game links to Carmarthen Vs Panathinaikos

Great comeback against Sporting, Unlucky against Ajax. Better luck next time against Utd. Those pesky own goals don't help, very moral deflating.

Wow, i've been inactive in this thread! Been really busy the past couple of weeks but will try and find time to play some more.

Well. My Icelandic youths are pretty terrible but I think that mostly due to the poor recruitment network we have.

    Champions League

    Group Stage

Manchester United (A) 6-2. Another defeat against the Red Devils. Wayne Rooney killed us off by scoring 4 goals.

Sporting (A) 1-2. We avenged for the late goal they scored in our last match by winning the match 2-1. We fought hard and in the end it payed off as this was our only win in the group.

    Ajax (H) 0-3.
Ajax dominated us and go back to Holland happy with a 2nd place in the groups and qualification for the First Knockout Round.

So, here's the group table. We came fourth with only 4 points.

Expect a season update in the upcoming days .

Yeah, Mines crap too. Although the RB Gauti Borgţórsson who came through my first batch is now an Icelandic International.

Unlucky with the Group stage, had you held onto the draw with Ajax away, you'd have been third because of your better results head to head with Sporting.
