Default I Can Score More Goals Than You, No Strikers Edition

I have enjoyed the pure goal based challenges but I'm about sick to death of strikers getting all of the love so here's a challenge for the rest of the team.

All of the players started from this basic set of statistics:
    Age 16
    CA 100
    PA -10
    Injury Proneness: 2 (Injuries blow)
Determination, Ambition, Professionalism: 15 (to make sure they develop well)
    Dirtiness: 5
Versatility: 5 (I want them to mainly stick to one position)
    Home Reputation: 100
    World Reputation: 50
    A 5 year youth contract

Primary and Secondary leagues are loaded for UK, Spain, France, Germany and Italy. Once the players step out of the lower leagues I'll probably turn off the secondary divisions unless some of them are still out on loan.

Here are the 30 players in the completion, sorted by starting squad:
    NAME HANDLE SQUAD GOALS
Vincent van Coconut bambi holt 1860 München 0
David Ginsberg David Corperial AFC Wimbeldon 0
    Dench Frimpong toonbalmy87 Darlington 0
Mike Nevo Tactic Master Doncaster 0
    Jake Stothard stothy Doncaster 0
    James Sawyer WhiteRiot Dortmund 0
Shaquille O'Neal Shakes FC Bayern 0
Arie Kanarie rpvw FC Groningen 0
    Edoardo Lorenzo ejldude Fiorentina 0
    Helge Blendet -RV- Furth 0
Marco Di Mata Chemical Hull 0
    John Crane glennuk Ipswich 0
    Sercan Cali 5ergio Juventus 0
    Jonas Dockx den-dockx1993 Liverpool 0
Simon Leigh billydavey1001 Man City 0
    Mark Brown mrbmfc Middlesbrough 0
    Arawn Moridin dieu Middlesbrough 0
    Eighteen Rabbit 18Rabbit Napoli 0
Rocky Brittus IV Britrock Newcastle 0
Henrik van der Voom mightymariner Port Vale 0
Charlie Anh Charlie_B Sheff Utd 0
    Glen Bunday Thebaker Southampton 0
    Ben Goldsmith Goldyrulz Southampton 0
Jim Bowman jimbowmanuk St. Johnstone 0
Greg Johnston Goldhawk St. Johnstone 0
    Stuart Shaw stuart_aberdeen Stranraer 0
    Justin Collins avine Valencia 0
    Jimmy Kruse Spurs_NZ Valencia 0
Björgvin Radebe bjoggi33 Werder Bremen 0
Gypsum Fantastic Gypsum West Ham 0

    Starting facts:
Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Southampton, St. Johnstone and Valencia all started off with two of our players.
npower championship is the most popular division for our players
6 players came in with a PA > 190, the lowest PA is 171 for 3 players
The most expensive player is valued at 3,893,140
The cheapest player is valued at 7,060
The average value is around 1.7M

I'll give updates every 6 months of game time or so unless there's a cup or some such that our players are involved with.

    LET THE BEST NON-STRIKER WIN!

Looks like my player has some good attributes like long shots which i didn't pick and could score a lot. I just need to get a few games.

Cali looking good for a winger. Let's see how early he'll manage to get an appearance in Serie A.

Gypsum's stats are a bit disappointing, 5 for natural fitness! Hopefully he progresses well at a club with good facilities like West Ham.

I over estimated my height 6 foot 8 inches, with solid heading and jumping should bang in a few from corners

Yay, first goal. Ok... "just" U19, but at least he knows how to score. Hope he'll get his chance in the first team someday.

Well at least he's playing well for the U18s and has been given a chance in the first team, albeit brief. Onwards and upwards!

I've simmed up to June 1, 2012 now. Jim Bowman is not going to be happy.

    Transfers from January's transfer window:
Charlie Anh from Sheff Utd to Lazio for 210K
Jim Bowman joins Simon Leigh's squad in a transfer from St. Johnstone to Man City for 950K
Mike Nevo from Doncaster to Chelsea for 1.5M
Mark Brown from Middlesbrough to Man Utd for 2M

Stuart Shaw finished out his season with Stranraer but is transferring to West Brom at midnight tonight. Welcome to the big leagues!

Really disappointed that this happened... Especially to such scum like Chelsea I'm going to struggle now unless they loan me out.

Not much from the Shaq attack so far but look at the average rating the last 5 ... 7.72 ... surely the manager has to give him a run in the first team on form!

Not a bad first season, in the U21's now, hoping for a few more first team appearances if we can get a cup run. Hopefully get sent out on loan somewhere to start bagging them in.

Good to get a few games but looks like i'm unlucky not to score, at least the youth form shows some goalscoring potential.

Helge Blendet finally with 4 first team appearances. On the other hand, just 4 goals for the U19 doesn't sound that good. Still hoping for a sling shot.

    January 1, 2013 Transfer update

    Transfers from season start
Rocky Brittus joins the growing team at Man United for 2.2M
Mark Brown goes out on loan to Wigan from Man United
David Ginsberg moves to Valladolid from AFC Wimbledon for 65K
Simon Leigh moved on loan from Man City to Birmingham until the end of the season
Björgvin Radebe moved from Werder Bremen to Palermo on loan until the end of the season
Shaquille O'Neal moved on loan from FC Bayern to Sampdoria until the end of the season

Mid-season transfers that have been signed
Charlie Anh will move from Lazio to CS Sedan Ardennes (L2 France) on loan until the end of the season
After being fed up with not getting first team action Marco Di Mata signs a deal to move to Man United during the mid-season transfer window for 3M (like this will help him get more first team action?)
Jonas Dockx will go on loan from Liverpool to Genk until the end of the season
Edoardo Lorenzo will be moving from Fiorentina to FC Utrecht on loan until the end of the season

Wanted players, Unhappy players, other things of note
Helge Blendet has minor interest from Man United
Jim Bowman is loan listed but no clubs are showing interest
Glen Bunday has major interest from Man United (anyone notice a trend here?) and Tottenham
John Crane has major interest from Man City
Leeds wants Gypsum Fantastic on a loan from West Ham (he is listed for loan, so it may happen)
Dench Frimpong has major interest from Novara
Arie Kanarie seems destined to move, he has major interest from FC Kobenhavn, Man City, Tottenham and Basel and minor interest from, you guessed it, Man United.
Arawn Moridin also is generating major interest from Man City, Man United, Stoke and Tottenham
Mike Nevo is listed for loan but no one seems interested yet
Leeds is interested in taking Sercan Cali on loan from Juventus (he is loan listed)
And speaking of Tottenham, Jake Stothard has delcared that he wants to leave because he is not getting first team playing time and is unhappy.

Man United is going to have a pretty great team in a few years. :P

10 Goals for Jimmy Kruse. He was Valencia's lead goal scorer this season. Not bad for an AMC

I don't mind not getting a single goal at the moment. Here's hoping Cali is seeing constant U20/Reserve game time to develop. That'll help a lot in future.

2 shots (1 on target) in 35 appearances, that's just brutal. Looks like being a DC is hopeless for scoring unless you're controlled by a human manager. I thought they fixed the AI to be better on corners?

Man United? Seriously? I thought by starting at Newcastle I'd be safe from joining a big club for a good few years. At least it looks like I'm playing some games though.

I've probably made it more difficult than I needed to by choosing the only full back...

Here's updates for each player, squad changes in red:

Charlie Anh MR - Lazio (On Loan to CS Sedan Ardennes) - Moved to Lazio and then out on loan till the end of the season. 11 apps for CS Sedan Ardennes and scored his first goal. Stats are developing nicely. Got his first cap against Lebanon. Determined to stop the team's run of defeats though he'll be back in Lazio soon so I don't think it'll matter.

Helge Blendet DM - Man City U18- Transferred to Man City for 1.6M on January 20th. Only 1 first team app for the season with no goals. 9 goal for the U18's. Listed for loan.

Signed a full time contract from Man City for 10K/wk. Not bad for a 17 y/o. Now listed as being used in a rotation system so he will probably see more first team action this next season.

Rocky Brittus IV DR - Man United U18s - Transferred to Manchester United for 2.2M. Listed for loan but feels that he is too good to be loaned out. 3 league, 7 cup and one continental apps but no goals. 33(3) youth apps with 8 goals. Jonas Dockx AMR - Liverpool (on loan to Genk) - 4 first team apps and snagged his first goal. 1(1) Youth apps with no goals. Signed a Full time contract with Liverpool for 1.5k/wk. Happy to be part of the Belgian U21 squad. Dubbed the next Robbie Resenbrink.

Gypsum Fantastic AMR - West Ham U18s - 1(1) youth apps with 2 goals. No league play. Signed a full time contact with West Ham for 850/wk. Happy to be playing for Wales (moved up from Wales U21). Listed for loan.

    Dench Frimpong
MR - Darlington U18s- 24 apps and 6 goals for Darlington with 2 cup appearance and one youth app (with one youth goal). Signed a youth contract even though he is mainly playing first team soccer now. Not part of Ghana's U20s squad any more. Recovering from a hernia he was out for 5 weeks for. Quietly working his way to the top of the goal chart.

David Ginsberg MC - Valladolid - 17(11) apps with one goal. 1 Youth apps and 1(1) cup apps with no goals. Happy to be part of the Israel U21 setup. Out with a pulled hamstring for 8 days. Getting pretty regular first team play now.

Simon Leigh MC - Man City (loaned to Birmingham) - 25(9) league apps with 1 goal. 4 youth apps with no goals. Signed a full time contract with Man City for 3k/wk. Flattered by the interest being shown in him. Happy to be part of the England U21 squad. Could be the next Glenn Hoddle.

Edoardo Lorenzo AMR - Fiorentina (Loaned to FC Utrecht) - No appearances at all. Didn't even play for their youth team. Signed a full time contract with Fiorentina for 550/wk. Happy playing for the club (I guess he just likes watching the games?) Happy to be part of the Italy U21 squad.

Arawn Moridin AMR - Stoke U18s - Transferred to Stoke on January 12th for 180k. Signed a full time contract for 3,300/wk with them. Didn't play very much, only 9 youth apps with 1 goal. Listed for loan but feels that he's too good to go out on loan. Happy to be part of the Norway U21 squad.

Henrik van der Voom MC - Barnsley - 41(1) league apps with 4 goals, 4 cup apps with no goals and only 4 youth apps with one goal. Signed a full time contract with Barnsley for 3,700/wk and is enjoying playing for the club. Happy to be on the Belgium U21 squad. Not really sure how we wound up at Barnsley, it says he joined last year (15.7.2102) but I still had him at Port Vale then. In any case, the move was good for him and he's currently in second place for overall goals.

Looks like Real Madrid is becoming interested in a few of our youngsters. We'll have to see how that works out.

Hmm, it's a shame about my anticipation but my other stats are pretty fantastic for a 17yo. No surprise that United sold me for a miserly 210k, it's nto like we need the money...

On reflection AMC clearly seems like the way to go! Still, it'll be interesting to see how things develop.

Are there any match/stat information that you guys want to see that I'm not covering?

I've already simmed 2013-2014. It takes longer to write up the summaries than it does to run the sims.

Wasn't expecting Jimmy to be doing so well this early on! Looks like he's had a good season. Could be on the road to being Australia's next Tim Cahill.

Just as expected, Cali is seeing constant game time in U20. 41 apps, 9 goals and 12 assists is a decent return I'd say. Here's hoping he'll be getting those numbers in the main squad in no time.

As of January 1st, 2013 they are still in BSP. Since I'm not simming that league, it'll be kind of a crapshoot if they get out of it.

Collins is only wanted by teams I have managed because I have all of the players on a shortlist. Not sure why everyone doesn't show up that way but the players that show as "Wnt" that I haven't specified who is interested in them, it's most likely because of them being on my shortlist.

As for having dual positions, that happened to almost all of the players to some degree when the game was generated. Almost everyone was given another position that they were above 0 at, just for Collins, Di Mata and Lorenzo they are actually pretty respectable at a different position. This is also why not everyone had 15 in the stats that they chose, generation doesn't always explicitly follow what is in the DB.

A new contract at West Ham is promising, despite my lack of games!

So the best way to win this game is hope your non striker gets a secondary position of striker and a team decides to train them up to natural there.

Quite disappointed to get transferred to Man Utd, I was hoping to bang in a few for Boro before moving on to bigger and better things.

Hopefully i wont rot in the reserves for too long!

Gypsum Fantastic is out on loan from West Ham to Birmingham until the end of the season.
Greg Johnston has moved to Celtic (and got his first international cap). Apparently he's having some remorse about it though as he is listed as "Wants to leave the club" but has also publicly refused a transfer listing and stated that he wants first team playing time.

John Crane has attracted the interest of Liverpool for a transfer but is still at Ipswich for now.
Jimmy Kruse has attracted major interest from Almería. He has recieved an updated contract offer from Valencia but may also just leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the 2014 season. We'll have to see what happens with him.
Dench Frimpong has attracted the interest of Toulouse FC.
Arawn Moridin has a slight concern about his situation at Stoke due to lack of games. He's on contract till 2015 but has stated that he is "Willing to remain at the club" and is "Considering his options".

    Goals for 2013-2014 season:
    Code:
    Name Pos.	Goals
    Glen Bunday	MC	10

    Jimmy Kruse	AMC	1
    Stuart Shaw	MC	1
    Justin Collins	M/AM R	1
    Arie Kanarie	AMR	1
    TOTALS:
    Code:
    Name Pos.	TOTAL
    Dench Frimpong	MR	20
    David Ginsberg	MC	15
    H. van der Voom	MC	15
    Jimmy Kruse	AMC	14

    John Crane	AMC	2
    Mike Nevo	AMR	2
    Arie Kanarie	AMR	1
    Charlie Anh	MR	1
    Here's the stat summary images:

Though Dench Frimpong is leading the pack for goals for now, I'm curious if it will last. His stat growth is pretty anemic compared to some of the kids are the bigger clubs and he's still on a youth contract and only valued at 55k.

Also wanted to point out that yes, Jimmy Kruse is saying "F this place, I'm out." and taking a free release. I'm keeping an eye on him to see where he winds up.

6 goals in his first proper first team season at Bari. Good return for Cali I'd say. If he managed to add some assists to that, he might as well get a starting place at Juve!

Wow! 3 PPMs learned, considering he started with Cuts Inside. Aside from arguing, the other two adds a lot to inside forward play style I'd say. 2 goals already at Empoli at the half way is not bad.

Wow, that's just lovely. A bit unrealistic, though, I don't think there's a football player who speaks five languages. :-D

Alright, point taken, he is an exception, though. Besides, there are not many people (footballers or non-footballers) who speak five languages fluidly. But this is entirely off-topic.

Back on-topic: I really like my PPM's, I really hope Liverpool gives me some first team football next year.

Off topic again I would think there are several that could speak several languages, but I would agree that maybe not fluid. I wonder how many Anelka can speak, hes been around the block a few times, seen this, done that sort of thing

    STATS TABLE:

Here's updates for each player, squad changes in red:

Charlie Anh MR - Lazio - Pretty quiet season. 9 apps for Lazio. Is happy playing for the club and honored to be at the same club as Chadli.

Helge Blendet DM, MC - Man City Reserves- Moved up from the U18's to the reserves and played not a single game this season, at all. He's hoping to gain some first team experience by going out on loan. Was out 3 weeks with a pulled hamstring. Gained proficiency at the MC spot.

Jim Bowman DC - Man City - Getting pretty regular first team appearances but not the goals to go with it. 8(9) league apps, 1(3) cup apps and got his first international cap against Ireland. He is ignoring the speculation regarding his future and has no immediate plans. Delighted to pick up his first cap. Has attracted the attention of Birmingham.

Rocky Brittus IV DR - Manchester United (on loan to Roma) - Helped Roma become the Italian cup runners up. Helped New Zealand U23s qualify for the Olympics. Had 28 apps for Roma and was a starting player but no goals. 4 cup apps and 12 continental apps where he finally snagged a goal. He's enjoying playing for the club and is listed as indispensable to Roma.

Mark Brown AML - Manchester United - Pretty sparse appearances but managed to pick up his first league goal in a cup game. Optimistic about his future with the club. Feels Rooney is a vital part of the team. Has no immediate plans and is happy to be part of the England U21s.

Glen Bunday MC - Fulham - 31(1) league apps with 6 goals. 4 Youth apps with no goals. 6 cup apps with 3 goals and 2 international apps with 1 goal. Got his first cap and international goal against Japan. Enjoying playing for the club. Happy to be on the England U21 squad. Listed as indispensable. Helped Fulham become the FA Cup runner ups where they lost to Wigan in penalties.

Justin Collins M/AM R - Valencia - Not playing as much this season. Looks like he started the season at Valencia Mestalla and then cam back up for Valencia in October. 3 apps with 1 goal, for cup apps and 1 continental app with no goals. Determined to stop the team's run of defeats. No immediate plans for the future and happy to be part of England's U21. Playing proficiently as MR mainly instead of AMR.

John Crane AMC - Liverpool (on loan to Genk) - Loaned out to Genk for the second half of the season and has almost nothing to show for it. 2 league apps and 1(1) youth apps with no goals. He is happy playing for the club however. I guess if I was 19 and being paid 26,000/wk to basically do nothing, I would probably be pretty happy too.

Marco Di Mata M/AM L- Man United Reserves- Moved up to the reserves but not getting much ation. No league apps and 3(1) cup apps (one of which he was playing DL for some unknown reason). Playing 17(4) non-competitive with 8 goals though so the potential is there. Happy to be part of the Italy U21 setup. On a full time contract with Man U for 10k/wk.

Dench Frimpong MR - Darlington Reserves- 28 apps and 9 goals for Darlington with 1 cup appearance and one non-competitive match with a goal. Has arranged for a full transfer to Polermo for next season. Looking forward to moving clubs. This should slow his goals down but speed up his development. He has plenty of room to grow.

David Ginsberg MC - Valladolid - Indispensable to Valladolid now, seeing regular first team appearances. After being promoted to Ligua Adelante last season, this season Valladolid finished 18th and was relegated. 34 apps with 1 goal, 6 international apps with one goal for Israel against Luxembourg. Arawn Moridin M/AM R - Stoke - Pottering around would be the best way to describe his activities at Stoke. 10(3) non-competitive appearances with one goal. Used in a squad rotation system, one apparently where he gets to play when nothing is on the line. Optimistic about his future. Happy to be part of the Norway U21 squad. Had a stubbed toe and broken ribs at the end of 2014. Playing proficiently as MR as well as AMR. Not that he's actually playing.
