Grats on promotion man, knew you could do it.
Yay for the promotion!
Now its on to the World Cup to make Oceania proud!
Pssh, my cousins a fan and I hate Liverpool, scum, scum scum!
Fingers crossed. Not sure how we will approach it, but I am expecting a much better performance than on Saturday. Im hoping that defeat will give us the kick up our arse that we have needed all season. Much like how the 6-1 defeat for Man Utd did for them.
I will ban you from this thread with comments like that.
Great ahcievement getting promtion after where Blackpool were when you took over, that really is something indeed.
Also good luck in the World Cup, it certainly looks like second place is up for grabs in your group.
Looking forward to seeing how you will do in the world cup![]()
Great season, World Cup should definitely be interesting![]()
Great read, this thread. Been following it for a while now. Really good progress in your management career. Looking forward to the premiership next season.
Good luck in the World cup from everyone in Brighton and Hove Albion FC![]()
SRL88's Career - Season Review - 2017/18 - Blackpool FC
Championship - Results 1 - Results 2 (3rd - 18th on arrival - Promoted via Play-Off's)
What a fantastic season for us. When I took charge at the end of November the club were massively underachieving and that all changed pretty quickly. From my appointment until the end of the season we lost just 4 games in the league (excluding Play-Off's) to give ourselves a fantastic chance of promotion. Our form carried us all the way through until the last day of the season but sadly a disappointing draw against Wigan on the final day meant we had to settle for a play-off berth.
In the Play-Off's we had to battle our way past Swansea to make it to Wembley. In the first leg we probably deserved defeat but turned it around fantastically to give us a 3-2 win on aggregate. The Final pitted us against Norwich, who despite having a man sent off hung on and we had to rely on penalties to gain promotion to the Premiership. Overall though, fantastic achievement.
FA Cup (Lost in 4th Round)
An absolutely fantastic peformance and result away to Aston Villa drew us at home to Everton. Despite matching them, their composure was better than ours and they moved on into the 5th Round.
League Cup (Lost in 2nd Round)
Out before I arrived.
Transfers - Finances
A lot of transfer activity, some from the previous regime, some from me. The players I brought in were brilliant and had a vital part in our improvement.
Finances are ok. Im not worries though because when we hit the Premiership things will improve.
Squad
We have a pretty decent squad but to compete in the Premiership we need a few improvements. For the Championship its a good squad but there is room for improvement. Hopefully in the off season we can bring a few in.
My Top 3 Players
Frank Nouble - Although he was only brought in during the January window, his overall play, as well as his goals and assists were brilliant. A great signing!!!
Thomas Guerbert - An excellent left winger. When I joined he wanted to leave, but how his tune changed when he met the great man Steven Longstaff.
Mxolisi Mbambo - The clubs vice captain and what a player he is. Really vital to our defence and was rewared with the Young Player of the Year Award.

Congrats on the Playoff victory....now for the small matter of the World Cup![]()
Excellent results there for Blkpool and All Whites, congrats!
Mbambo looks class. Nouble is a beast in the Championship.
Congrats on making it to the big time!
Newcastle was a massive job opportunity, hope your decision to stick with Blackpool proves fruitful!![]()
Both of those jobs would have been great fun.
Hope you enjoy sticking around.

Knockout Phase
So its France who lift the World Cup for the second tournament in a row. Some pretty suprising teams, especially Belgium who made it all the way to the Final in an impressive manner. The biggest shock of the tournament though probably goes to Canada finished second in a tough group and then went on to knock Brazil out.
New Zealand Summary
Pretty poor really, but we were playing much better opposition. We lost 3-2 to both Scotland and Japan in tight games, but were thrashed 5-1 off hosts Russia. Following the tournament I stepped down as manager of New Zealand.
You did well against much better quality.Although my only response with Canada knocking out Brazil is![]()
SRL88's Career - Season Preview - 2018/19 - Blackpool FC
Board Expectations:
Premier League:- Stay Clear of Relegation
FA Cup:- Reach the 4th Round
League Cup:- Reach the 3rd Round
My Expectations:
Premier League:- Avoid Relegation
FA Cup:- Would love a trip to Wembley
League:- As above
Budgets:
Transfer:- £9.3m
Wage:- £549,806k (Currently spending £476,000k)
Balance:- £4,885,934 (-£9,853,510 - Im not to bothered though because we will receive a lot of money over the course of the season)
Squad:
A pretty packed squad with a lot of talent. We should do pretty well. There are a few players who I would like to bring in and hopefully that will happen soon.
Key Player(s):
Matt Phillips - The winger comes back to Blackpool in a £1.8m deal. More experienced and a better player, he will be a big player for us.
Mxolisi Mbambo - Clubs vice captain and a fantastic player.
Alphonse Areola - Probably my best signing in my career so far. How he was available on a free come January is beyond me, but everybody else's loss is my gain.
Lasha Akubardia - Signed on a free transfer and I may come to need his goals. Looks a fantastic player.
Oh yeah, go Canada. Canada >>> Germany, Brazil.
You fancy another international job soon?
Team Canada.
World cup was as expected really, maybe disappointing you didn't snatch a point.
You looking for another national job?
Just gone through and read it all, such a good read. Well done man.
All tho i would of liked to see if you got to the prem with darlington :P. If they go back down to L2 i expect you to go back and save them :P
Great promotion with Blackpool but always going to be difficult with NZ at the World Cup.
I reckon I might have found it hard to turn Newcastle down.
So Blyth's out as well?
Unlucky at world cup but to be expected mate!
Did you apply for the job?![]()
SRL88's Career - Pre-Season - 2018/19 - Blackpool FC
An alright pre-season with some pretty good performances. The bigger games against Ajax, Anji and Lazio were really good performances. We matched our bigger opponents and played really well.
Transfers
Key Transfers - In
Lasha Akubardia
Matt Phillips
Tomas Rincon
Muhamed Besic
Jacob Mellis
A decent pre season and some good signings there mate.
It hasnt come available yet, but I will try and force their hand the best I can. If McLeish (cant believe he is Liverpool manager) does get sacked, I will be first applying and I will travel to Liverpool every day to knock on the doors and beg for the job ha.
Cheers.
Is that Matty Phillips you signed or someone else?
SRL88's Career - August & September 2018 - Blackpool FC
We obviously like to score a goal or two but cant defend for ****. Feels like Ian Holloway's Blackpool all over again. We started with a poor defeat away to Blackburn but followed it up with an impressive display and victory over Everton. An even game against Birmingham followed but it took a 92nd minute Jacob Mellis goal to give us a share of the spoils. Against Wolves we really should have won. They were 1-0 up pretty early in the game but had a man sent off and although we equilised, they went on to take the lead again, so we equilised again, only for them to go straight up the pitch and score a third. I was angry and let the leads know about it to and we made up for it with an impressive win over Leicester. We dominated the first half but took our foot off the pedal in the second which they bossed, but overall was a deserved win to leave us nicely in mid-table.
A nice couple of wins in the League Cup to move into the Fourth Round. We had to battle past my former club Darlington in the Second and it took a late goal for us to get the win. We followed this up with a dominating performance at Bournemouth but they scored a late goal to cancel out our early one to take things to Extra Time. Our fitness levels showed in the extra period as we took advantage to win 3-1 and set up a Fourth Round tie away to Championship side Bristol City.
You signed him, for Blackpool?
Out of interest, who did he go to and how much for?
Haha yeah. Probably one of the better options available for me to be honest. He was sold by Blackpool to Birmingham in the 2012/13 season for £4.4m and spent 3 seasons there before being sold to Blackburn for £3.4m but only played 10 games in 3 seasons there and I resigned him for £1.8m.
Decent month mate, some good results. Unlucky against Wolves. Damn Dingles.
Some decent results at home, if you continue to win against those sort of teams at home you will easily avoid relegation.
decent start to prem season keep it up![]()
Pretty good so far.
Decent start to life in the Prem, hope you can keep out of trouble.
Good start in the Premier League. If you managed seven points every six games you'd get beyond the "magical" 40 point mark.
Nice signing in Jacob Mellis aswell. Just four seasons in on my Chelsea save and he looks really good, just a pity it was with Chelsea and I couldn't quite fit him in the side.
A good start to the season bud!
SRL88's Career - October 2018 - Blackpool FC
A stuttering month which has seen us fall down the table a little bit. We started with an average performance away to Stoke but managed to come away with a point. We performed much better against Newcastle and dominated large spells of the game but couldnt manage to find a winner in the game and once again had to settle with a point. I was expecting the worst against Chelsea but we more than matched them and things could have been a lot better than the 2-1 defeat we came away with. Our run of games coming up is going to be difficult and we're going to have to start winning games if we are going to give us a chance of survival.
Another win in the League Cup which sets up a Quater-Final tie at Anfield, which probably means the end of the road for us but we will go there and have a go. The Quater-Final looks pretty straight forward really. Place your bets!!!
Not a good month, but it was a tough game, that last one.
Liverpool will be a real test in the League Cup!
Not too bad that month, Chelsea was always going to be tough. Unlucky against Newcastle and Stoke.
A trip to Anfield will be tough but looking at that table Liverpool aren't flying! You can beat 'em![]()
I'm a Liverpool Fan.. but I dare say it...Go kick their ass and progress! lol
Good job getting Blackpool back into the Premier League. I hope you can avoid the last day of the season relegation scenario though!
Well this is interesting. Im being linked with jobs left right and centre now and I said I would be interested in a couple which brought on this reaction. I wasnt going to stand for it so....
Im not going to have a board dictate to me what I can and cant say and although I have been enjoying my time at Blackpool but the board have been a bit annoying lately so I jumped before I was pushed. There are plenty of jobs available to so I will be applying.
Didn't expect that
I hope you go to the MLS with New York. It's on my things to do list but I'd like to see you try it!
Pity it had to end that way.
First job offer. Fulham who are sat 17th in the Premier League. Delayed for a week.
Think I'd give that a miss, not really a better option than where you were.
Last edited by DaneBramage; 28-01-2012 at 16:59.
I think I'd wait as well.
My second job offer, and a lot more money for me personally. A huge club compared to Blackpool but are struggling in 15th place in the Premiership. If I accept...my first game in charge will be at home to Blackpool.
Bit more tempting.
SRL88's Career - New Club Update - Aston Villa FC
Name: Aston Villa FC
Nickname: The Villans
Stadium: Villa Park (42,640 all-seater)
Status: Professional
So two days before my one year anniversary in charge of Blackpool FC, and after just five days out of a job, I find myself once again back in the hot-seat of management, this time with Aston Villa FC and officially took charge on Wednesday 21st November 2018.
Board Expectations:
Premier League:- Qualify for the Europa League (Wont be judged this season - 15th on arrival)
FA Cup:- Reach the Sixth Round
League Cup:- Knocked out in Third Round before I arrived
My Expectations:
Premier League:- Finish as high as possible, hopefully have the effect I did on Blackpool
FA Cup:- Winning it would be nice
League Cup:- N/A
Budgets:
Transfer:- £8.5m
Wage:- £885,565k per week (Currently spending £822,249k per week)
Balance:- -£34,417,226 (Seriously!!!! What the hell. Wish I could have seen this before I was appointed. I have work to do)
Squad:
There are some very, very good players in this squad which has me wondering why they are so low in the table. The only reason I can come up with is the fact that they never strengthened in the summer despite selling £26m worth of players. They have no outstanding loans so I am a little stumped as to why they are in such a financial position to not be able to strengthen.
Key Player(s):
Frank Huisman - Had a brilliant season in Germany last term. If I can get this guy firing we will be laughing.
Mateo Kovacic - Looks an excellent playmaker and will hopefully be my main link up man.
Johan Martial - A very strong centre half who will hopefully lead the backline.
Giovani dos Santos - Fingers crossed he can recapture the form that made him one of the hottest prospects in Europe once upon a time.
James McCarthy - Quality player, always liked him. Will be a main fixture in my midfield.

Looking forward to the Villa Blackpool match. £34 million in debt that is crazy. Good luck dude.
Woah that's heck of a bit of bad news about the balance.
Holy crap that's some debt. Good luck with Villa mate![]()
Good luck at Villa, should be a good club to progress with if you can sort the finances!
Did well at Blackpool, good luck at Villa.Clearing that debt may be a bit challenging though.
Cool, when I went to Vitesse I told the press there were things going on behind the scenes that were not right.
