[FM11] - Loading every league at once, I must be insane!

Recommended Posts

Well as the thread title explains, I have loaded up every league in the game, I abandoned my old save because there wasn't enough options to manage in and felt there were nations I wanted to manage in that I didn't load up. I will start unemployed with Sunday League Rep and holiday a year into the game to get unique job offers.

Wish me luck!

30.6.11 - Only one club showed any interest in me and it was newly promoted Northern Irish second division side Brantwood FC, this will be tough as I have no backroom staff and may have to wait before finding anyone worth hiring. We are relegation candidates, we're only predicted to finish 15 (out of 16) so avoiding relegation has to be the main aim. The club turned semi-professional 10 days ago but everyone who is at the club is on amateur contracts, this will be difficult.

A bit of club history

The club was founded in 1901 and have a fair few trophies to their name. 4 Irish Intermediate Cups to their name, 2 consecutively in 1953 and 1954 and also in 1973 and 1991. They have a single George Wilson cup to their name, won in 1974 as well as 9 Steel & Sons Cups which were won in 1921, 1932, 3 in a row from 1951 to 1953, 1956, 1977, 1986 and even as recent as 2007.

Brantwood FC 2011-12 Pre-season report

Preview: With no backroom staff, a bunch of amateurs, minimal facilities and a tough list of opponents, survival is the main aim. With any luck we'll come 14th!

Media Prediction: 15th, the media say second from bottom, hopefully we can go higher, we'll see who I have in the team first.

Squad Report

Youth: None

Pre-season friendlies

Abbey Villa (H) - Non-league opposition

Kilmore Rec (H) - " "

Holywood (H) - Almost Hollywood :D, hopefully we can beat them, and no play-acting!

P.S.N.I. (H) - From Hollywood to the police force, hopefully they won't keep us trapped in our own half!

Ballynure O.B. (A) - More non-league opposition.

By the way, to be unique I'm going to be updating match-by-match and will post minute-by-minute action, you'll see what I mean later on. :)

Preview: Despite Abbey Villa having no league, the media think this will be an easy visit from the away side. Hopefully, after the match we can prove the doubters wrong, this is also a great opportunity to test out my new signings.

0 - Fitzpatrick puts new signing O'Hara through and he puts it just wide, almost a goal after 30 seconds!

1 - Selfish by Fitzpatrick, he could have played it across for O'Hara but went for goal and missed.

10 - Fitzpatrick really doesn't strike me as the team-player type, he bursts past a defender to receive a long ball but instead of giving it to O'Hara, goes for goal and hits the side-netting.

15 - Brantwood make the first sub with Douglas replacing McFernan.

16 - Speers sees yellow after tripping up Andrews

16 - Close call for Villa as the free-kick is headed over by Andrews.

24 - A long shot by Ward flies over the bar.

31 - GOAL! The defender misses a vital header after a long ball by Green and O'Hara finishes off the move.

33 - McFadden plays it to Green who puts it well wide.

42 - Green pulls it back to Haughey who hits a terrible effort out of the stadium.

45+1 - GOAL! Villa equalise against the run of play and it's a great lob by Ward.

45+2 - Half time

Disappointing to go into the first half level after we played much better but hopefully we can come out of the blocks in the second half.

45 - Long replaces Andrews at half-time

45 - Villa almost lead as the ball is pulled back to Ward who should score but Haugh saves.

46 - O'Hara is booked for tripping up Hume

49 - A clearance wildly deflects off an attacker to send McNulty through but he puts it over.

50 - McFadden becomes the 3rd Brantwood player in the book for upending Doyle.

51 - Abbey Villa make a host of changes, Murphy, Cairns, Smith, Wallace and Carroll all come on, with Millar, Burns, Wray, Johnston and Doyle coming off.

57 - Steenson replaces Hume for Villa.

66 - Fitzpatrick has to come off injured, Burns replaces him.

71 - GOAL! An error of judgment by the keeper to come out from the goal as Purvis gets there before him and rolls it across for Burns to tap in.

81 - Villa think they've equalised when Ward heads in a cross but the flag is up against him.

90+1 - Tumelty picks up an injury and with no subs left, Abbey Villa are reduced to 10.

90+3 - GOAL! Villa equalise right at the end when Steenson has plenty of time before finishing it.

90+4 - Full Time

After 2 crash dumps forced me to replay the match twice after winning 5-0 and 4-0, I'm disappointed with a draw, especially so late on but hopefully with more new faces on the way, we'll be able to win matches like this.

Transfers

The first order of business was to get some backroom staff in. So say hello to my new assistant Adrian Whiteside. Whiteside had just retired while playing for 2nd division rivals Tobermore Utd at an impressive age of 42, he also has 1st division experience with Porstewart. 2 coaches also responded to my advert for an assistant so why not bring in some coaches. The first to arrive was Jimmy McIlhagga, he had just retired from 1st division side Ards. The second came a day later, Stewart McCallum who had retired from 1st Division side Glebe. He has also played as high as the Premier Division, with Limavady Utd and Coleraine, so good experience here.

As far as playing staff is concerned, Ronan O'Hara was the main signing after fellow 2nd division side Lurgan Celtic released him, his versatility will come in very handy for us and despite having a finishing attribute of 3, he certainly knows how to score. Stephen Purvis comes in as an experienced head on the left hand side, he was also let go by a second division side, Killymoon. We were in desperate need of a centre-half and Kieran Cunningham certainly fits the bill, he was let go by 2nd Division Warrenpoint. James Haughey was another quality transfer, 1st division Banbridge released him and he is also quite versatile, able to play in defence and in midfield. I'm far from done in the transfer window though and I'll be looking at Trial Day to see if anyone is worth signing.

Preview: Another chance to test out the squad, the media still doubts that I'll be able to win but I know that we definitely can.

4 - Haughey hits one from distance but it's wide of the mark.

19 - O'Hara floats a dangerous ball in from the byline and Green hits the bar with a header when he really should have scored.

25 - GOAL! Brantwood get the lead their play has merited, Haughey plays a good ball to Cooling who finds the corner with a good strike from 20 yards.

30 - A poor clearance by Haugh is headed forward and Kennedy has a great chance for Kilmore but Haugh makes up for his mistake by saving it.

35 - Speers picks up an injury with Jeffers replacing him.

45 - Somehow Kennedy is allowed to break past the defence and the Brantwood defence is relieved as the shot flies past the post.

45+2 - Half time

We lead but we only just deserve it, hoping for an improved second half display.

45 - Turley and Kelly replace Hamilton and Ferguson at half-time.

51 - Stewart, Trainor and McColgan all come on for Evans, Mullan and McClean.

53 - Seamus Hughes picks up a yellow for his foul on Jurvis.

58 - Cassidy replaces Gordon for Kilmore.

60 - PENALTY! Cunningham is thought to have tripped Stewart in the box and Kilmore could equalise here. A dubious decision there.

61 - GOAL! Peter Kennedy confidently smashes in the penalty to level it for Kilmore.

62 - Harvey comes on in goal to replace McKnight.

74 - Gary Kennedy picks up an injury for Kilmore and with no subs left they go down to ten men.

77 - Cunningham plays it to O'Hara who hits it first time, but it whistles wide.

79 - So unlucky for Brantwood, Jeffers plays it to Burns who hits a snapshot but it comes off the post and Kilmore clear.

80 - Again, so unlucky... McKernan's long ball finds O'Hara who drills one on target but it's a great save by the keeper.

87 - Incredible! A cross by McKernan is spilt by the keeper and Green has an easy tap in from 2 yards but it hits it straight at the keeper, it bounces off him onto the outside of the post, how can Brantwood not be in front!

90 - Green picks up a knock, and Holmes replaces him just incase.

90+4 - Full Time

A penalty condemned us to a draw here but we had some really good chances, especially at the end Green should have scored. The team played pretty well and with more new faces hopefully in for next match, I think I can get my first win. Hollywood, here we come! I mean Holywood :).

Preview: A lot of new faces, some far too good to be playing here so I definitely want a win today! A clean sheet would be nice too.

1 - Already a great chance for Brantwood, Green's free-kick from the left is met by a Fitzpatrick header and the ball strikes the bar, denying the new guy a debut goal.

2 - Close call, another new signing, Douglas sees his free-kick come off the wall and wide for a corner.

3 - GOAL! Green's corner is powerfully headed in by Fitzpatrick who scores on his debut, just 3 minutes in.

5 - A good chance for Kelly but he hits the side-netting.

6 - A good ball by Haughey finds Green but his shot is saved by the keeper. He goes for the rebound from an impossible angle and it goes wide.

15 - Speers picks up a knock, Brantwood take no chances and send McFadden on to replace him.

26 - Green's corner is brought down by Purvis but he mishits the shot.

30 - New signing Finlay makes a good run but his shot is wide.

35 - A loose ball falls to Finlay but he puts it wide.

39 - Purvis' cross is headed just wide by Green.

40 - GOAL! An incredible strike by Douglas on his debut as he slams it into the top corner from 35 yards!

41 - Douglas puts Finlay through but his shot is high and wide.

41 - Baxter replaces Kelly for Holywood.

42 - Holywood will be wondering how they haven't got back into it, Canning's shot is spilled by Haugh and all Vauls has to do is tap it in but he smashes it at the post and the ball bounces out.

45+2 - Half time

We deserve to be 2-0 up and possibly more but I'm happy with the first half performance.

45 - Gibson and O'Connor replace O'Hara and Walker at half time.

51 - Doran, Bannon and Tumilty replace Roddy, Donaghy and Canning.

53 - Finlay takes the ball off Baxter inside the post but the keeper is well positioned to save the tight-angled shot.

56 - A loose ball in the box falls to Douglas but he smashes it over.

57 - Green's cross is headed just wide by Purvis.

60 - Douglas pulls Harris' shirt and gets his name in the book.

67 - Beckett is on to replace Massey.

69 - Vauls trips Fitzpatrick and gets a yellow.

75 - GOAL! It's 3-0 and it's another debutant to score as Finlay converts Green's cross to seal Brantwood's victory.

78 - Gibson hits one but it goes wide.

86 - Holywood have another chance as a cross from the right is headed over by Bannon.

90+1 - Full time

An impressive victory by the lads and the new signings have certainly impressed in this match, hopefully we can push on from this result and get some consistency going.

Transfers

A lot of players impressed me on Trial Day and I've lured 6 of them over here. Centre-back duo Wayne Buchanan and Michael Fitzpatrick arrive after Blyth and Portadown release them respectively, Fitzpatrick especially is an exciting prospect, the coaches say he has Premier Division potential! As well as a centre-half duo, a strike duo also arrives, Joe Finlay comes after Glenavon released him but more exciting than him is Jamie Douglas who Championship side Preston released. Left-sided player Jordan Watson comes in after not impressing at Sunderland and after BSS side Bromley released Wes Daly, it was a no-brainer to sign him.

Preview: We face the police in our final home game of pre-season, it will be good to test ourselves against a team that are in our division. They are predicted to be promotion contenders so any result will do here.

2 - McCartney's free-kick finds O'Hara but his header is well saved.

6 - Haugh does well to parry a distanced shot from Clarke.

23 - Haughey hits one from distance and it's just over the bar.

27 - A cross is headed down to McKnight who hits it wide.

45+1 - Half Time

We've put in a respectable performance against opponents that should be hammering us. Hopefully we can keep it up.

47 - GOAL! Brantwood take the lead as Douglas plays Finlay through and he places it convincingly into the bottom corner, great start to the half for Brantwood!

49 - Finlay robs Smith in the box but his shot is caught by Richardson.

56 - O'Hara hits a hopeful effort well wide.

59 - P.S.N.I should be level, a free-kick is headed towards goal by O'Hare but it's saved, he goes for the rebound and somehow hits it closer to the corner flag! What a chance.

62 - Douglas is allowed to shoot from 30 yards but its over the bar.

65 - A long ball finds Winter but Haugh makes another save.

73 - GOAL! The Police are level, McCrory's cross is finished off by Hunter.

76 - PENALTY! Things go from bad to worse as Green trips up Winter in the box, this could give P.S.N.I the lead.

76 - GOAL! Marks ruthlessly smashes it into the roof of the net and Brantwood fall behind.

88 - A long ball picks out Winter but his shot drifts wide of the mark.

90+3 - Full time

Not a bad performance but disappointing to come away with defeat. We weren't slaughtered though, which is something we can take out of the game.

43 - A corner is headed out as far as Mullan and his effort is deflected out for another corner.

44 - GOAL! A superb counter attack by Brantwood, Finlay's cross is headed into the corner by O'Hara.

45+2 - Half time

Happy to be in front but would like more chances to be created.

54 - Green pulls it back to McFadden but he drags it wide.

66 - GOAL! Ballynure are back level, a goal mouth scramble from a corner sees McCombe score from a yard out.

78 - GOAL! Brantwood retake the lead after Green's free-kick is headed in for his second by O'Hara.

87 - Ballynure should be level again, Mullan is slipped in but shoots too high when he should have scored.

90+3 - Full time

We held on for the victory, but we made it difficult for ourselves. Amusingly, our 3 goals all came from headers by our wingers :p. A victory heading into the season is always good :).

Brantwood 1-1 Kilmore Rec

For us: Cooling (26)

For them: Kennedy (pen 62)

Brantwood 1-2 P.S.N.I.

For us: Finlay (48)

Ballynure O.B. 2-3 Brantwood

For us: Green (5), O'Hara (45, 79)

For them: Mullan (37), McCombe (67)

Summary: Despite a disappointing defeat against league rivals P.S.N.I. and a late equaliser to stop us beating Abbey Villa, I am happy with how pre-season went and am hopeful we can avoid relegation this season. A lot of new players who have made encouraging starts here so I hope they can carry that form into the season which starts just 3 days from now!

6/8/11 - Brantwood vs Sport & Leisure (Northern Irish Second Division)

Pre-match Press Conference

Ricky McFall "Most pundits are in agreement that Wes Daly will play a big part for Brantwood in the season ahead, is this something you agree with?"

Me "Definitely, he's one of our key players, if he plays well, creates chances and maybe bags a few himself he'll certainly be pleased with how his season has gone. Despite being a new face at the club, I don't expect that to hinder his performances. However, he can't be the only one performing, we need to work as a team and that is more important than any individual performance."

+ - Makes/Could make competitive debut

^ - 25th appearance for his club

" - 25th league appearance

Preview: Sport and Leisure are pretty much at our level so a win here would be great, always good to start the season positively.

2 - David Gibson is booked for a foul on Purvis.

13 - Purvis' corner is headed over by Fitzpatrick.

15 - Johnston finds Havern in space on the right hand side of the box but Haugh saves at his near post.

18 - Purvis drills a cross in from the left which Green does really well to control and then shoot but Preece saves well, tipping it round the post.

24 - Cunningham trips Rugg and gets in the book.

25 - PENALTY! After losing two penalties in pre-season, Brantwood have a great chance to lead after David Gibson brings Purvis down in the box. It certainly looked dubious!

26 - GOAL! Great start for Brantwood as Kieran Cunningham marks his competitive debut with a goal, placing it calmly in the corner.

28 - Poor marking from a Scott Gibson free-kick and Havern is allowed a free header inside the box but Haugh is equal to it.

36 - Douglas goes for it from distance but it goes over.

39 - GOAL! The equaliser has come and its from an O'Neill corner that Ferry heads home.

41 - Brantwood fail to defend from a set-piece once again but this time Rugg heads over.

45 - GOAL! Right on half time S&L take the lead, Rugg is found free on the wing and places it well into the corner.

45+3 - Half time

Disappointed to be behind as were winning but hopefully I can recover the squads morale for a better second half performance.

51 - Rugg picks up an injury and on comes Sheridan.

53 - GOAL! Perry gets the better of his marker after a cross and finishes well to give S&L a telling advantage.

56 - GOAL! That surely wraps it up, for some inexplicable reason Haugh does not come out for a long ball, Sheridan gets there and drills it in to make it 4-1.

65 - O'Neill sees a free-kick deflected for a corner.

71 - Purvis trips David Gibson and sees yellow.

74 - David Gibson's free-kick whistles past the post.

74 - The goal kick is headed forward and Perry is through but he puts it wide.

84 - Baggley and Hill replace David Gibson and Clark.

84 - Haughey is booked for a trip on O'Neill.

84 - GOAL! Another set-piece goal conceded by Brantwood, a free-kick by O'Neill is headed in by Sheridan.

87 - Fitzpatrick makes a complete mess of the ball in defence, allowing Sheridan to shoot but fortunately it's over.

89 - Johnston is booked for a trip on McCartney.

90 - GOAL! The day of misery continues as Hill's shot fortunately deflects off team-mate Baggley and in.

90+2 - Full time

Going into half-time 2-1 down, I thought we had a genuine chance but we simply fell to pieces, a poor second half performance and they could easily have bagged a few more.

Preview: I'm expecting to be slaughtered in this match by the Premier Division side, anything I can get from this would be an achievement.

11 - To the shock of many pundits, it's Brantwood who have the first chance of the game. Douglas sets up Green and his shot is only narrowly over the bar.

22 - Patton makes a run and shoots from the edge of the box, just wide.

35 - Another chance for Brantwood as McCaffrey finds Finlay on the edge of the box who turns and shoots just wide of the bottom left corner.

45 - GOAL! And it's nothing less than Brantwood deserve for their efforts, Finlay slips in Green on the right wing who shoots from a tight angle, the keeper punches it clear. Or so he thinks as the ball falls to Douglas who gives Brantwood a shock lead here!

45+2 - Half time

WOW! All I can say at the moment, we should have been easy pickings for Distillery at their ground but somehow we are not only in front but playing better as well, even if we don't win this match, I'll be very proud of the boys.

45 - Carlin replaces Tracey for Distillery.

49 - Buchanan picks up an injury and on comes debutant Aaron Marks.

50 - GOAL! Incredible stuff by Brantwood, Finlay sends Green through on goal and he coolly finishes past Matthews to send Brantwood closer to a huge upset here!

52 - Almost 3 already! Douglas sends in a cross from the right and McCaffrey heads it just wide.

52 - Strange tactics here, despite being 2 down, they've brought on a defender in Muir to replace a midfielder Stewart.

58 - Not sure why, but Green has been booked for Brantwood.

60 - O'Hara replaces Daly.

64 - Tyrrell makes his debut in the place of Finlay as Brantwood now try and defend their lead.

66 - Devlin goes for a half volley on the edge of the box but it was never troubling Haugh.

70 - Carlin hits one from distance but it's wide.

77 - Liggett replaces the Distillery captain, Patton.

90+1 - Distillery try a clever free-kick tactic as Liggett plays it to Taft but he skies it.

90+4 - Full time

An incredible performance by the lads, the odds of us winning before the match were 50/1 but we've pulled off a shock here and what's more, we did it convincingly, only letting Distillery have a single shot on target. All at their ground, any faith lost in our last match has certainly been re-earned.

Indisputable photographic evidence of our performance as well as the victory.

Ricky McFall "We decided that Gareth Green was the man of the match today, what did you think his performance was like?"

Me "He was definitely our main attacking force today, played a big part in the first goal and for the second goal, not many players would have kept his composure in front of goal as Gareth did, he fully deserves his award and hopefully he can keep this up.

Transfers

I felt we needed strengthening after our 6-1 defeat to Sport & Leisure and also felt that the squad needs a lot more depth. So in come the two players with the surname Marks (brothers?). 16 years between the two, Aaron Marks is a young centre-back who has great potential, released by Premier Division side Glenavon and Jamie Marks who certainly has experience under his belt, having spent a good 13 years in the Premier Division for Linfield, Ballymena Utd, Portadown and Crusaders as well as some time in League 1 with Hull. He can play at centre-midfield and even right-back! Left-winger Adrian McCaffrey comes in on a free from non-league Omagh Utd and Irish centre-half Derek Tyrrell comes in having had experience in the Irish Premier Division.

Preview: We start the league cup once again against opponents in a higher division as we face 1st Division promotion contenders Donegal Celtic, the media has written us off but surely they should have learnt their lesson by now! :p

8 - Donegal Celtic almost lead when a cross is headed by McAllister but Haugh tips it over the bar.

11 - McAlorum hits one wide from a long way out.

15 - Hutchinson hits one from outside the box and it floats wide.

20 - So close for Celtic as McAlorum's cross from a free-kick is headed over by Hutchinson.

27 - McAllister receives the ball after a long pass and shoots from a tight angle but Haugh makes a smart stop at his near post.

39 - McAllister trips McCaffrey and sees his name in the book.

42 - It's a miracle it's still 0-0, McAlorum's free-kick is headed towards the corner by Hutchinson but Watson saves the day, clearing it off the line. McAlorum then pulls it back to Senda who skies it.

45+1 - Celtic hit Brantwood on the break and McAllister plays Hutchinson through but he puts it just wide of the post.

45+2 - Half time

Donegal Celtic have truly dominated this game yet somehow the score is 0-0, this could be a snatch and grab for us.

47 - Hutchinson gets into the box and shoots but Haugh once again saves Brantwood with a good stop.

57 - McMenamin is on for Dolman who has been injured.

60 - Glenholmes trips Steers and gets into the book.

61 - Speers gets payback on Glenholmes and gets the same punishment.

61 - Celtic try something from a free-kick as Senda rolls it to McAllister who's 25 yards out but his shot doesn't trouble anyone, except maybe the fan on the other end of the shot.

62 - Dickson replaces the booked Glenholmes.

66 - Brantwood finally have a decent chance, McCaffrey makes space for himself before curling it just wide of the post.

67 - Dickson finds McAllister but he drills it wide.

70 - Donegal Celtic think they've finally scored after a fluke Lambe cross nestles in the corner but the referee has pulled it back, saying that McAllister impeded the keeper as he went to catch it, not too many arguments from the home side.

71 - Dickson finds himself a gap and shoots but Haugh punches it clear, not taking any chances.

73 - Hutchinson hits one from the edge of the box but it's wide.

75 - GOAL! Donegal Celtic finally get the lead, McAllister plays in Dickson who places it into the far corner.

78 - GOAL! And it's 2-0, Senda's low cross is tapped in by Dickson who grabs his second.

83 - GOAL! All of a sudden, Celtic are full of goals, Senda plays the free-kick to McAllister who hits a curler from 30 yards straight past Haugh.

90 - Speers picks up an injury with O'Hara set to play the dying minutes.

90+2 - Full time

It looked like we were going to hold out for a draw but Donegal Celtic went berserk for the last 15 minutes, there goes our League Cup run this season.

8 - Daly plays Finlay through on goal but he places it just wide of the post.

12 - McQuillan tries one but it's an easy catch for Haugh.

15 - GOAL! McCaffrey's corner is headed in by Fitzpatrick and Brantwood take the lead.

19 - McCaughern with a perfectly weighted pass for Finlay but he powers it wide.

28 - GOAL! Douglas plays it to Finlay who gets it in from 18 yards.

32 - GOAL! Daly finds Finlay who turns on the edge of the box and picks out the corner, too easy for Brantwood.

45+2 - Half time

It's been an easy ride for us, I'm very pleased with our finishing in the final third and the second half is simply a formality.

49 - Douglas hits it to Finlay who shoots wide.

50 - McCaughern finds Finlay who breaks into the box but disappoints with the finish.

52 - McCaffrey is booked for tripping Willis.

53 - Costello is booked for a push on Buchanan.

68 - Campbell replaces Burns.

73 - Newell is on for McQuillan.

77 - Daly picks out McCaughern in the box and somehow he hits it straight at the keeper who punches it away.

78 - Should have been 5, from the resulting corner, Buchanan's header is well saved by the keeper.

80 - A McCaffrey corner is headed over by Buchanan.

82 - McCaffrey's corner is headed over by Fitzpatrick.

89 - Douglas is booked for tripping Newell.

90 - Great dribbling by Finlay, sadly not a shot to match.

90+2 - McIntyre is booked for a push on McCartney, Brantwood are in no rush.

90+2 - Full time

A simple victory for us, would have liked a clean sheet but a win is a win which sees us head for the 3rd Round.

* - Makes/Could make debut for his club

+ - Makes/Could make competitive debut

> - 2 goals to reach 25 league goals

If Lurgan Celtic fail to win, they'd have gone 7 games without a win, a record.

Preview: Lurgan Celtic also have 0 points and I consider this a winnable game, hopefully we put in a performance to be proud of and pull off a result. With Watson called up to the NI Under-19s, Buchanan is forced to play an unfamiliar role of left-back.

10 - Haughey trips Doyle and receives a yellow.

11 - A Green corner is headed back across by Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell gets his head on it but it's straight at the keeper.

25 - Lazenby trips Buchanan and gets a yellow.

26 - Fitzpatrick gets a yellow card after tripping Doyle.

26 - Lemon hits an ambitious shot but it's harmlessly wide.

34 - Collins is booked for impeding McCaffrey.

37 - Doyle sees yellow for tugging Haughey's shirt.

39 - Finlay trips McAnallen and we see yet another yellow!

45+1 - Half time

Certainly not the most eventful match ever, there have been more yellow cards than chances and although registering a point would be decent, we're capable of getting three.

45 - Brantwood have certainly come out of the blocks, a mazy run by Finlay but his shot is tipped onto the post.

48 - Higham is booked for upending McCartney.

51 - Collins picks up an injury and McNamara replaces him.

51 - Green's free-kick is headed over by Fitzpatrick.

52 - Higham hits one from range but it's over.

64 - A really dreadful effort from Finlay takes a few seconds to bounce well wide of the post.

65 - Lavery hits one from long range and it's just wide, good effort.

67 - Higham does well to find Blackwood cutting in from the wing and his shot is tipped away by Haugh for a corner.

73 - Connolly is on for Higham.

78 - Fitzpatrick replaces Doyle.

86 - It takes just 13 minutes for substitute Connolly to pick up an injury and with all subs made, Celtic are down to ten.

90+3 - McCaffrey upends McCleary for the 8th yellow of the match.

90+3 - Full time

Well at least we won't be pointless this season and a 0-0 draw was probably a fair result. A bit disappointing not to have won it in the end. On the bright side, we're out of the relegation zones in 13th.

Transfers

I felt the squad could use some young blood so in come the new faces. 19 year old right winger Gerald Sinclair comes in, he was released by league rivals Lurgan Celtic, whom we just paid but didn't make the squad for this match, he failed a trial with fellow 2nd division side Annagh United as well. Eoin Boyle also has huge potential, released by the team we dispatched in the County Antrim Shield, Distillery having also played for Linfield. 19 year old CM Matthew Weir isn't expected to run the league over yet, but maybe in a few years. He was let go by Portadown. Finally, striker Gerard Rooney, I signed him hoping he was a fusion of Gerrard and Rooney but sadly not :). The striker released by Glenavon should provide good competition for Finlay and Douglas to keep them on their toes.

3/9/11 - Brantwood vs Dromara (Northern Irish Steel & Sons Cup 3rd Round)

Pre-match press conference

Ricky McFall "Last time your team met Dromara, you lost, how will that affect the team going into this match"

Me "I don't see how commenting on this type of question can help anyone to be honest."

Squads

Derek Tyrrell |Darren Wilton

Preview: Ironically, Dromara were the team who took us out of this competition at this stage last season, winning 1-0, the goalscorer of that match Lewis left on the bench. The media thinks Dromara can win again but we're a completely different team and a convincing win here wouldn't surprise me.

2 - Fitzpatrick gets the first yellow after his trip on Todd sees the latter need treatment on the sidelines.

5 - Almost a goal for Brantwood, McCaffrey's corner is met by Buchanan's header but it's a cracking stop by Horn. The ball is then knocked around before Marks attempts a shot from a tight angle but it was never any danger for Dromara.

7 - Purvis is booked for a trip on Todd.

25 - Rooney gives it to Douglas who hits one from distance but it zooms wide.

32 - Curlett trips Purvis and gets a yellow card.

35 - GOAL! Brantwood take the lead, Speers sends a long ball over the top finding Rooney on the right and he sends one across for a simple control and finish by McCaffrey, first goal for the club.

45+2 - Half time

We lead and that's the most important thing, Dromara haven't threatened and a 2nd clean sheet in a row is what I'm aiming for today. We should see the match through.

57 - Curlett curls one from a way out but Haugh is focused, making an easy catch.

60 - The hero from when these sides last met, Lewis comes on to replace Todd.

62 - Moore tries a snapshot from the edge of the box but it's wide.

69 - John Douglas trips Daly and sees yellow.

76 - Wilton replaces Curlett.

83 - McAleese is on for McKinney.

85 - O'Hara is on to replace Douglas for Brantwood.

87 - McAleese trips up Speers and the sub gets a yellow card, it took him just 4 minutes.

88 - Speers returns the favour and the referee deals out the same punishment.

88 - McCaffrey clears a corner and Rooney gets to the ball first, rounding the last defender before having a go, straight at Horn though who sends it behind for a corner.

90 - The ball bounces around the box before O'Hara plays it across to McCaffrey but disappointingly he puts it wide.

90+3 - Full time

We did the job here and that's what matters, revenge against the team that beat us last year.

21 - Tyrrell is booked for pulling back Deane.

21 - Morrison pulls it back to Ramsey who slams it wide.

90+3 - Full time

What an incredible result! No-one thought we'd a survive a visit from high-fliers Linfield but we've done really well to get a victory here, anyone else think we're gonna win the cup?

Brantwood haven't conceded in 299 minutes of football.

Jamie Douglas hasn't scored in 400 minutes of football.

Preview: We face a mid-table side at home, a match I'd certainly like to win, we'll see...

1 - GOAL! Great start for Brantwood, McCaffrey's free-kick from the right is met by one powerful header by Fitzpatrick, 1-0.

12 - McKeever trips Finlay and is booked.

18 - PENALTY! Brantwood certainly know how to draw out fouls in the box, McCaffrey bursts into the box and McKeever brings him down. Tobermore argue but it's too late now.

18 - GOAL! McCaffrey gets up and takes the spot kick himself, straight down the middle but it's in anyway.

20 - Hughes makes some space and powers it at goal but it's just wide.

29 - Tobermore Utd must be fuming at the ref right now, McGurgan's free-kick is volleyed home from close range by Heneghan but it's been disallowed for offside. Actually, not many complaints by the away side.

35 - Fitzpatrick is booked for holding back Patton.

39 - Speers sees yellow for upending O'Neill.

45+1 - Half time

We lead 2-0, a pleasing first half. Would be great to get three points and another clean sheet here.

45 - Gardner comes on for McGurgan

49 - Speers picks up a slight injury and no risks are taken, on comes Buchanan.

56 - Gardner trips Watson and receives a yellow.

57 - GOAL! Gardner plays it to Hughes who rifles one in and hits the roof of the net, game on here...

58 - RED CARD! Well Tobermore Utd's manager won't be pleased, a reckless challenge by Burns on Douglas right next to the dugout and he has to go.

59 - Sheppard replaces McGurgan in response to the red card.

64 - Daly finds Finlay and he places it just wide of the post.

66 - Douglas trips Sheppard and goes into the book.

70 - Green puts Douglas through on goal but he blazes it miles wide of the post.

71 - Horner replaces Patton.

73 - McCartney shoots from a free-kick but it flies over the bar.

79 - Green hits one from distance but it's wide.

81 - Sheppard upends Finlay and receives yellow.

90+5 - Full time

We hang on for the three points in the end, it was disappointing to concede but after the red card, Tobermore didn't really have a chance, a good three points picked up here.

+ - Makes/Could make competitive debut

" - Makes/Could make 25th league appearance

Jamie Douglas hasn't scored in 490 minutes of football for Brantwood.

Preview: A match I think we're capable of winning, let's try and turn that into a reality.

3 - GOAL! Queen's University take an early lead after a counter-attack, Tapp's cross is headed in by Mernagh.

6 - Tapp's free-kick comes off the wall but it falls kindly for Mernagh who just misses out on his second.

28 - A poor free-kick sees the home side counter with Lavery placing it just wide of the post.

30 - GOAL! 2-0 to Queen's University, a poor pass by Loughran gives it striaght to Divin who sends Lavery through and he finishes well.

32 - GOAL! Loughran makes up for his earlier error by linking up well with Green on the right and his cross is headed in by Finlay, Brantwood aren't out of it yet.

34 - GOAL! 3-1 straight away, no-one picked up Divin from Tapp's corner and it's a really simple header.

37 - GOAL! This is one hell of a match, Green's low cross causes havoc an Paget loses the ball to Douglas who happily ends his goal drought of over 5 matches.

45+1 - Half time

It's certainly been an eventful half, we really have no right to be in this match, we've played dreadfully but have been prolific in front of goal. Hopefully, we can wake up defensively and get a result.

46 - McManus hits one from distance but it's wide.

56 - Marks trips Shaw and is booked.

57 - McGlade trips Green and gets a yellow.

57 - Brantwood unlucky not to be level, Green floats a cross in and McCaffrey's header hits the bar.

59 - GOAL! And now Brantwood are level, Watson's cross from the left is met with a diving header by Daly and Brantwood might go for the win now.

63 - Finlay trips Shaw and he gets a yellow card.

63 - Douglas attempts an ambitious shot but it's wide.

65 - Tapp plays a free-kick short to Lavery but he leans back and curls it over.

65 - GOAL! Queen's University are back in front, Haugh's goal kick is headed forward and Divin got there first and finished carefully.

73 - Tapp's cross is headed over by Mernagh.

74 - Almost a repeat of the last goal, but this time Divin's shot is palmed away by Haugh.

79 - Prenter replaces McGlade.

83 - Finlay gives it to Douglas who shoots from distance but it's well wide.

83 - Loughran trips Lavery and sees yellow.

85 - McDonald replaces Divin.

90 - McCaffrey trips Mernagh and gets a yellow card.

90+2 - Queen's University almost get a 5th, McDonald's first time effort hits the bar, the rebound falls to Lavery but he's offside.

90+2 - Full time

Disappointing to come away with defeat, defensively we didn't look great, hopefully we can sort that out.

Transfers

A lot of transfers coming in, right-back is a position where I felt we needed strengthening so in come Willie Loughran and Niall Curneen, released by Glenavon and rivals Moyola Park respectively. Experienced centre-half Michael McMullan arrives after 2nd division rivals Annagh Utd let him go. Arsenal fan Ryan Murray is another experienced signing, he is also versatile, able to play at centre-back, centre midfield and left midfield. He was released by first division Bangor. A few young players also come in, Aidan Forker who was let go by Dungannon is one to look out for, capable of playing at CB and CM, as well as strike duo Mark Dane and Mark Trainor who also have bright futures. Released by Portadown and Armagh respectively.

Preview: we face the Northern Irish police again, after losing 2-1 to them in pre-season, they currently lead the pack in the 2nd division so a tough game lies in wait, a good chance for some new signings to prove themselves today.

3 - McMullan gets the first yellow for upending Marshall.

5 - Mackle trips Douglas and also gets a yellow.

9 - GOAL! A muddle in defence gives Winter a great chance and he takes it, 1-0 Police.

15 - McCaughern is booked for a trip on Marshall.

20 -Watson trips Winter and gets a yellow.

22 - Vauls curls one but it's just wide.

24 - GOAL! Brantwood are level, Daly gives it to Douglas who turns and shoots on the edge of the box, squeezing it into the corner.

32 - Rooney trips Smith, another yellow.

35 - Marshall with a trip on Fitzpatrick and we see yet another yellow.

40 - Hunter gets into the box but his shot is well wide.

45+2 - Half time

Not much excitement but its 1-1. The goal we conceded was disappointing but we're showing how prolific we are in front of goal, scoring our only shot. An exciting second half awaits...

45 - Double sub for P.S.N.I, McCann and Philson on for Hunter and Marshall.

50 - RED CARD! The police not showing the youngsters how to keep disciplined, Mackle brings down McCaughern and gets his second yellow card.

51 - P.S.N.I respond to the red, bringing Lundy on for Smith.

61 - Watson plays in Rooney who has a simple chance but somehow Richardson claws it away.

62 - Curneen carelessly loses the ball after a corner was cleared and Winter is through on goal but Haugh stands firm and blocks the shot.

66 - Winter shoots from a tight angle and hits the post! P.S.N.I. are getting closer...

77 - Douglas plays it to Rooney who curls one and it's just wide.

87 - Daly sets up McCaffrey but his ambitious effort hits the side netting.

90+1 - McCaughern gets the better of McCrory after a loose ball and his shot is punched clear by Richardson, could have been a winner...

90+2 - Full time

Playing against ten men, I would have liked to have won this, but we can't really complain as P.S.N.I. could easily have scored too, let's see what happens in extra time.

91 - O'Hare brings down McCaughern and gets the first yellow of extra time.

100 - GOAL! Brantwood take the lead and it's McMullan on his debut who heads in McCaffrey's corner off the post, is that the winning goal?

105 - Daly trips McCann and gets a yellow card for his troubles.

105+1 - Half time in extra time

We lead and all we have to do is hold on for 15 minutes. Hoping for the best.

112 - Watson picks up a slight knock and to avoid any recurrence, McCartney comes on for him.

120+1 - Full time

We're through! We've beaten the league leaders here, a result to be proud of as we march on.

Summary: A very productive month for us, we remain in two cup competitions and got a very impressive victory over County Antrim Shield holders Linfield, we also managed to beat 2nd division leaders P.S.N.I. in a good match. It was disappointing to lose a closely fought encounter with Queens University but we got our first three points of the season beating Tobermore Utd. I think on the attack, we are good but defensively we need to improve.

* - Makes/Could make league debut for his club.

+ - Makes/Could make competitive debut

Johnny Rosbotham hasn't scored in 385 minutes of football for Killymoon.

Preview: We're at home, so I'm hopeful we can win here.

7 - Finlay gets the better of the defender and his shot is tipped around the post.

11 - Rosbotham tries one but it's over.

23 - Rosbotham tries again but it's wide.

28 - Rosbotham plays it across to Grattan who somehow blazes it over from close range.

40 - GOAL! Route one football pays off for Brantwood, McMullan sends one over the top and the rash decision by Brown to come out is the wrong one as Finlay touches it past him before finishing into an empty net.

44 - Green finds McCaffrey and he hits the inside of the post! How unfortunate for Brantwood.

45 - GOAL! What a bizarre goal to concede from Killymoon's point of view, Rea's pass causes confusion between Brown and a defender, Douglas takes full advantage scoring into an empty net.

45+2 - Half time

More than happy with that half, we have a telling two goal advantage and the side certainly know how to take their opportunities, let's see if we can hold it.

45 - Ferguson and Glasgow replace McAllister and Bingham at the half way point.

49 - Daly gives it to Finlay who shoots from the edge of the box but it's a quality save by Brown.

52 - GOAL! Killymoon are back in it, a corner isn't cleared properly and Forsythe's first effort is saved but he scores the rebound to deny new keeper Rice a clean sheet.

63 - Stewart replaces Killymoon's scorer Forsythe.

74 - Douglas will be wondering how his shot from inside the area was closer to the corner flag.

83 - Loughran gives it to Green but another poor effort.

90+4 - Full time

We got three points here, would have liked a clean sheet but the win was more important.

Ratings

Post-match press conference

Ricky McFall "Rumours are circulating that you might be in the market for a new player, is that true?"

Me "I don't think so, but if Messi turned up at my front door, I wouldn't say no!"

Transfers

I realised there was no competition in goal for Haugh, so I've brought in Matthew Rice and Stephen Brennan to strengthen our keeping options, released by Larne and Carrick respectively. Brennan's the slightly better of the two IMO. Another ex-Carrick player, Craig Reid also comes in. Scott Cowden will probably be a back-up right back, he was let go by Coagh Utd. Ex-Linfield left-back Jonathan Watterson should give Watson some competition, he was released by Bangor. LB/CB Stephen McQuilllan who rivals Moyola Park released gives us some stability in those areas.
