    Santarcangelo Calcio, Pre-season/August 2014 Review

    Pre-Season
Well, another pre-season and we needed to push on. We were moved to Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B this season and given the brief to consolidate our position and was given an £8.75k wage budget and a £0 transfer budget. Veteran DC Fabio Cozza retired at the end of the season and, after asking the board to allow more coaches, I signed him back up as my Defensive coach. I also approached the board in order to get our pitch re-laid, but I was told there was no money left in the kitty for it (when has there ever been?). I also asked the board for a new parent club and was given Serie A side Parma! I signed Marquinhos as our Technical coach and locked up the rest of the staff for another few years.

    ---------------------------------------

    Results
    17.08.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 0 Arezzo (Coppa Italia Lega Pro, Group F )
Luca Onorato netted the winner on 78 minutes to settle this tie

    20.08.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Pisa Calcio (Coppa Italia Lega Pro, Group F)
In facing a far superior Lega Pro Prima Divisione side, we went down early, however new signing Jakob Vojtus netted his first for the club to give us a priceless point.

    ---------------------------------------

    Transfers
Incoming to the club on frees were Dutch AMC Zlatko Zejnilovic from Fortuna Sittard; Croatian DC Silvio Maloca was signed after leaving Banik Ostrava in the summer; Slovakian U-21 ST Jakob Vojtus was snapped up after being let go from Intenazionale; young Italian AMC Marco Constanini and experienced DM Gianluca Bacchiocchi also came in. Finally on the transfer front, DL Jérémy Pacheco came in on a free from Vannes OC and DM Andrea Congiu returned to the club on a free after being released by his club. DC Alessandro Orchi came in on loan from AS Roma.

Leaving the club was M/AMC Paolo Beatrizzotti for £28k to Ourense

    Santarcangelo Calcio, September 2014 Review

    Results
    03.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 0 Forli (Coppa Italia Lego Pro, Group F)
Luca Onorato again netted the winner to put us in pole position to qualify

    07.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 2 Valenzana (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
A really bad performance which we've clearly been saving for the opening day...

    10.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Prato (Coppa Italia Lego Pro, Group F)
Jakub Vojtus scored first and for a long while it saw us top the group, however we conceded from a corner and that dropped us down to third place in the table, but qualified as the best loser overall

    14.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 4 - Vibonese (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Luca Onorato headed home early on before it became the Jakob Vojtus show, as he netted a hat-trick to give us a fantastic win

    21.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 5 - 0 Grottaglie (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
An utter whitewash. Both Luca Onorato and Jakob Vojtus hit doubles and Andrea Castellano's strike was just the icing on the cake.

    28.09.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 0 Aprilla (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Luca Onorato scored early and Marek Kysela's header sealed it late on

    --------------------------------------------

Wow. New signing Jakob Vojtus has hit 7 in 8 games this season and Luca Onorato has scored 6 in 7. Great stats and ones that just may fire us to promotion. Having said that to get him and the others, we are now £2k p/w OVER our wage budget and already at -£256k in the bank...

A good start to the season. Where are you in the league after September?

A lovely goal by Vojtus. A great run past the defender and cheeky lob over the GK

Currently 4th, but I'm not hanging out the bunting just yet. I was 2nd after 21 games one season and STILL finished 12th!

Thanks guys! Yeah, it is a relief to finally see some life in the team. Typical as we're way over budget for the first time in my reign and I literally have only 21 players in the entire team, U-20's and up!

Much more faithful to Catenaccio that month, shame you had to go and ruin it with the 4-0 ;)

Vojtus looks good for that level, not surprised he's been scoring at a decent rate, hopefully that's the push the team needs to survive a whole season in the top places.

Thanks! De Paoli got his chance as we were light on strikers and playing the bottom of the league, so I bought on all three youth players as subs.

    Santarcangelo Calcio, November 2014 Review

    Results
    02.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 0 Barletta (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Jakob Vojtus hit the opener and Sebastian Mladen slammed home an 87th minute penalty to seal the game..

    05.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 0 Gavorrano (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
We stuttered and spluttered through this one.

    08.10.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Virtus Entella (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
A game that had everything against the league leaders. They took the lead through a hotly-disputed, offside-looking goal. Then to add insult to injury, Giancarl Bacchiocchi was dismissed for a second yellow as we tried to fight back. Howeve, Andrea Castellano levelled the scores with a wonder strike. We then rode out the rest of the game despite losing Silvio Maloca for 2 months to a fractured wrist

    16.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 0 Novese (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
A lack of cutting edge and, indeed, luck screwed us on this one...

    19.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 2 Pro Patria (Coppa Italia Lega Pro Third Round, Group B)
We played very badly and deserved the defeat.

    23.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 3 - 1 Monterotondo Lupa (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Gutted. TWO own-goals put us on our way, before Luca Onorato headed home to make it a simple game. However, Luca Onorato then bundled over a Lupa player in the box on 90 minutes and the team that had scored only 5 goals in 15 matches, got their sixth

    26.11.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 0 Melfi (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
    [B]A dull game.

    30.11.14
    Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 0 L'Aquila (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
[B]We couldn't seem to come back from a 6th minute injury to Jérémy Pacheco which would put him out for months. Then, in the second half, Jakob Vojtus strained ankle ligaments which will see him out for virtually 2 months.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

That defeat to Pro Patria and their subsequent win over Viareggio led to this.

    Santarcangelo Calcio, December 2014 Review

    Results
    07.12.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 0 Campobasso (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
We went ahead through a calamitous own-goal, then Luca Onorato produced a piece of absolute magic for the second..

    10.12.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 2 Viareggio (Coppa Italia Lega Pro Third Round, Group B)
We were already out so I just played the kids and backups and we were deservedly beaten by the Prima Divisione side.

    14.12.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 0 Mezzocorona (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
We were so lacking in strikers in this match that Pierre Pindi started up front and he repaid me by scoring a late insurance goal after we took the lead through another OG

    21.12.14
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 0 Paganese (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Pierre Pindi hooked home from a corner midway through the second half in this top of the table clash.

    ----------------------------------------------------

Well, we finish 2014 in 2nd place! We've only conceded 7 goals so far as well, however, pride comes before a fall and I know only too well the sickening feeling when you hit the wall. So I picked up DM Valerio Verre on a free after his release from AS Roma. I'd been tracking him for a number of seasons and had him on trial 2-3 times this season, just to get him to sign. This, however, put us WELL into the red with wages, which was slightly offset by the sale of DL Emiliano Ponti to Antequera for £1k. The baard has also injected £440k into the club to get our overdraft down to below £100k!

    Tactics

The entire back four man-marks during a game:
    • When playing a 4-4-2, the DR/L's mark the wingers/wide midfielders, whilst the two DC's mark the strikers
    • During a wide 3 (AML-ST-AMR), the DR/L's mark the wingers and one DC man-marks the lone striker, whilst the other man-marks anyne coming in late
    • In a close 3 (ST-ST-ST), the entire back line just man-marks without assignation.
    • With an AMC (either AMC-ST or AMC-ST-ST), The Anchor Man DM man-marks the AMC and usual DC assigments.
    • In a wide/close AMC trio (AML-AMC-AMR or AMC-AMC-AMC), the DR/L mark the widest AMC's or AML/R's and the DM marks the AMC

All matches are played with the shouts 'Get Ball Forward', 'Hassle Opponents' and 'Play Through Middle'

Go Andrea Castellano! Surely on his way to becoming a legend for the club

The defence is obviously top-notch, but I'm surprised you can score as often as you do with such a defensive tactic. 1.5 goals a game is pretty decent.

What generally happens is that I get a goal early on in the first, then one late on to seal it.

An astonishing disparity in goals. After the three strikers and Castellano, we're reduced to bit part players chipping in. It's a good indicator of why we have a lot of misfires and goalless games.

    Santarcangelo Calcio, February 2015 Review

    Results
    01.02.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 2 Aprilla (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
2-0 up in 5 mins through Pierre Pindi's double, we were crusing. But a 20 yard shot that crept in and a header that looked offside meant that we drew.

    08.02.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Chieti (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
We went 0-1 down from a corner, before Andrea Castellano swept home after a great counter-attack move.

    15.02.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 4 - 0 Aversa Normanna (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
This game was against the team with the second best defensive record in the league. We slaughtered them. Goals from Kadir Caidi, Matteo De Paoli, Ivan Graziani and Zlatko Zejnilovic saw us thump them.

    22.02.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 1 Fondi (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
We went 2-0 up through goals from Luca Onorato and Kadir Caidi, before we conceded again from a corner and saw Pierre Pindi sent off for a second yellow card.

    Santarcangelo Calcio, March 2015 Review

    Results
    01.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 0 Sambonifacese (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Zlatko Zejnilovic's lw strike gave us a priceless win.

    08.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 3 - 2 Vigor Lamezia (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Andrea Castellano's return from injury was marked with a double including a penalty. Pierre Pindi got the third in this win which put us top for the first time this season. However, we have now conceded 7 goals in 8 games as opposed to the 7 in 20 earlier!.

    11.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 2 Gavorrano (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
This game just painful. Miceli fumbled the ball into the net for an OG before Pierre Pindi equalised with a tidy finish. However, a defensive lapse saw the 18th placed side get a priceless win.

    15.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 2 Barletta (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Oh God. It's happening again. We were dead and buried at 0-2 down before Luca Onorato scored an 80th minute 'consolation'. This result dropped us into the playoff positions.

    22.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Virtus Entella (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
I'd incurred a touchline ban after the Barletta game, so I could only watch from the stands as we ground out a credible draw with the league leaders, Luca Onorato getting the equaliser.

    29.03.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Novese (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Ivan Graziani netted to set us on our way, but again we were pegged back by a relegation-haunted side. We regained second on goal difference after this game.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

I GENUINELY have no idea how I'm still second...

Everyone down to the 2.5* rated player. Gonna have to retrain all the wingers however.

You should be well set for the future then. Suppose you can sell some players too which may easen the financial woes for a while, and lower wages.

    Santarcangelo Calcio, April 2015 Review

    Results
    04.04.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 1 Melfi (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Pierre Pindi's late strike gave us a priceless point, but we're still stuttering

    08.04.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 4 - 1 Monterotondo Lupo (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Andrea Castellano's opener was totally overshadowed by Jakob Vojtus' first goal in 15 HOURS! Not only that, it was one of three as he scored a hat-trick of real quality.

    22.04.15
    Santarcangelo Calcio 1 - 0 L'Aquilla (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Zlatko Zejnilovic scored the only goal of this tight encounter between promotion hopefuls.

    26.04.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 2 - 2 Campobasso (Lega Pro Seconda Divisione B)
Jakob Vojtus scored twice as we twice came from behind for a tough draw against middling opposition.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

This left us in 2nd place by a point. With just two games to go and 3rd place to play in my last match...

    Santarcangelo Calcio, Preseason/August 2015 Review

We had no retirees this season, however I picked up former Santarcangelo player Stéphane Sarni as a scout, thus increasing the number of ex-players in my backroom staff. I asked for and got an increase in Junior coaching. Our budgets were £13.25k wage and £2.85k transfer budgets in our first ever season in Lega Pro Prima Divisione A.

    ------------------------------------------------------

    Results
    03.05.15
Santarcangelo Calcio 0 - 1 Nocerina (Coppa Italia, First Qualifying Round)
They had 11 shots on goal, 0 on target. And won 0-1. Marek Kysela's own goal settled it.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Transfers
Only three buys this off-season, all on free's. AMC Gonçalo Brum, SW/DLC Giovanbattista Anastasi and DL Simone Lea all coming in to bolster various areas of the side. However, the real deals were done on a scouting trip to watch Italy U-20's vs Morocco U-20's. I was sat watching the game and two players on the opposition side stood out. On further enquires, they were both available on Bosman frees. Some quick deals later and I would have two cracking players in January. DR Mohamed Abdellaoui and ST Bilal Yilmaz. These two will be vital in January.

Only DM Andrea Consigu left the club, as he was whining about no game time and I had a decent youth in Cristian D'Amico as a third-choice backup.

Good table that, pushed the leaders all the way in and well clear of the playoff debacle.

Best of luck surviving next season. Is the stepup big? Don't think I've ever played in Italy

In my Trapani career thread I've found the biggest problem is just consistency. I'd say SC1 is pretty even, and I'm sure that Deisler should be able to push on into the top half of the table with just one or two signings.

Quality season, congrats for finally breaking through. Class bunch of home-grown youngsters coming up too.

I'm more intrigued by the tactics, I'd think having so many defensive players and such a defensive line could actually be counterproductive as your team gets pinned back all the time, apparently not. 24 conceded in 38 games is superb.
