I think it was limited by us not having any youth facilities until a couple of years ago. Hopefully in time it will be up to a decent level.
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2038/39
The big news last season was the takeover which saw a huge pile of money dumped onto the club. I've got no intentions of spending it, so perhaps it will be saved for a rainy day.
League Table
This is our fourth successive unbeaten season. Elsewhere, Linfield managed to regain their second spot.
Domestic Cups - international call ups meant we faced Linfield with just four real players, and lost. The Irish Cup final was fun though.
UEFA Super Cup - despite an early setback we cruised to victory.
FIFA Club World Cup - it was a tight game settle by two second half goals.
UEFA Champions League - we had a tough group stage but cruised through the knockout rounds. We met Atletico Madrid yet again in the final, with the usual result (just).
Linfield in Europe - they made it to the group stage, which was crucial. They were unlucky not to qualify, but at least got one match in the Europa League.
Glentoran in Europe - unlike Linfield, they managed to beat Celtic. But that was it.
Squad - I'm struggling to improve the squad with value players, so the transfers are definitely slowing down.
Transfers - I brought in a new left winger and swapped a striker.
Key Player Profiles:
Dejan Vukojevic - injuries ruined his season, it looks like he is well past his best now.
Federico Araujo - he was brought in to score goals. He did just that.
Admir Juric - another great season for the winger.
Hiltinho - the new winger was brought in as backup, but has pushed himself into the first team.
Amedeo Damiano - he's sat in the reserves for years but he is a great player to have.

Things are slowly taking shape off the field, but we are a long way off being able to produce youth players capable of playing in this division.
Another great season. I'm just wondering, what formation/tactic do you play?
Took me a bit longer to get there but eventually...
Now I struggle for a reason to continue. My campaign almost exactly mirrors yours. Domestic dominance that's ludicrous followed by years of trying to win the Champions League.
Another great season dafuge.
Could you include your finances into the end of season report? I like to see how it changes from season to season.
Nice to see Glentoran & Linfield get into the Champions League group stages. Must have had a decent effect on the Uefa Co-eff's?
I could stick the finances in there, but there's usually not a lot to say. Most seasons we break even thanks to the odd player sale, occaisionally we will make a decent profit if a number of players are sold.
Having three clubs in the group stages is massive, but we really need the other two clubs to start winning a few more games.

It was a long time coming, but I've finally had to let my assistant Michael Downes go. He has become the new manager of Spurs![]()
Hey Daf, why has Hiltinho never had a call up internationally even for the U21's? He looks more than a good enough prospect to at least make the U21 side.
Here's the comparison with the player keeping him out of the side. Not a lot in it really, it is strange he's not been capped at all.
Alan McGowan
Things seem to have gone well so far, but Downes will be hard to replace.
I am making a career thread on a save where I am doing something similar to you. Just like yourself, I want to take a northern Irish second division team to the top but I am doing it with youth only. I kind of want to copy your thread title but change it a little. Instead of 'From Young men to World Beaters' I want to call it ' Making Young Men World Beaters' would this be ok? I would understand if it's not.![]()
It sounds a bit similar, I'd probably end up putting my updates in it by mistake![]()
okay, not to worry then! thanks for the quick reply![]()
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2039/40
With the facilities slowly improving, all we could do was keep trying to win trophies and hope that the other NI clubs would join in.
League Table
We drew our second game of the season to second placed Glentoran, but our tight defence meant we were never going to be beaten.
Domestic Cups - international call ups cost us the Mid-Ulster Cup, but we won the rest.
UEFA Super Cup - a bit of a strange game, but we won.
FIFA Club World Cup - a comfortable win.
UEFA Champions League - just a minor blip in the group stage as we stormed our way to another title.
Linfield in Europe - they did well to finish third but they still can't progress in the Europa League.
Glentoran in Europe - they lost out in the playoffs then failed to shine in the Europa league.
Squad - the only new player is a youth product. He isn't that good but I'm going to start building a reserve squad of local players.
Transfers - just a couple of sales as I trimmed the squad.
Finances - loads of money, but nothing to do with it.
Key Player Profiles:
Dejan Vukojevic - he was doing well but then suffered a bad injury. His career is really coming to an end.
Federico Araujo - not quite up to the standard of last season, but still pretty good.
Amedeo Damiano - the reserve is starting to look my best striker.
Admir Juric - another superb year for the right winger.
Robert Roche - another great winger.

As the youth facilities continue to improve, the chances of getting some decent players increases. If I can slowly build up a squad of local players then I'll give them the cups to play in.
You make it look so easyyou not getting bored yet?
It isn't the most exciting game at the moment, but we are a few years away from being able to produce decent youth players (hopefully) and maybe 12-15 years away from a new stadium. At the moment I'm just trying to zoom through the seasons as quickly as possible while trying to win everything.

Just out if Curiosity what is your club value now?
when do you get your youth intake? is it in march similar to england or not?
Yes, they come in around the start of March.
How are Linfield and Glentoran finances? Also, how good are they managers? I am wondering what is it thats preventing them from progressing further.
Finances don't seem great at either club, although they can't be that bad with the CL money coming in. Glentoran seem to have a decent manager, the Linfield manager looks poor though.
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2040/41
Things were going well at the club with the youth facilities slowly improving, we just had to keep up the winning.
League Table
The usual story, with Glentoran taking points off us.
Domestic Cups - back to the usual clean sweep.
UEFA Super Cup - this result was a bit harsh on us.
FIFA Club World Cup - straight forward as always.
UEFA Champions League - we were looking great until we had a shocker in Lyon. The second leg wasn't much better either.
Linfield in Europe - a few wins but a disappointing season.
Glentoran in Europe - they were really unlucky not to qualify from the group, but managed to pick up a win in the Europa League.
Squad - there's a handful of youth products in there now, they won't make the first team but they will get the odd cup game.
Transfers - I think too many big changes cost me this season.
Finances - looks like a hefty loss, but I took a few transfers payments in instalments.
Key Player Profiles:
Dejan Vukojevic - time is starting to run out for him.
Federico Araujo - he was the top scorer, but not as impressive as a couple of seasons ago.
Amedeo Damiano - playing really well as a supporting striker.
Flávio - I splashed the cash on him in the hope of goals. He looks good so far but I can't help but think I've wasted money on him.
Robert Roche - one of four superb wingers.

As the improvements to the facilities keep coming, the youth players look like they are slowly improving. Hopefully in a few years time I'll have a few in the first team.
The most important thing for next season is winning the CL again, NI suffers every time we lose in it.

Things are looking a lot better than a few years ago.
When was the last time you lost a league game?
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2041/42
We lost out in the Champions League last season, so it was crucial we improved.
League Table
The usual draw at Glentoran, who are looking like a decent side this year.
Domestic Cups - there was a shock in the Irish Cup final, as Glentoran beat us.
UEFA Champions League - we cruised through to a final where we met the team that beat us last year, Lyon. Things did not start well, but we turned it around to take a narrow win.
Linfield in Europe - pathetic.
Glentoran in Europe - a superb year, with some great results and a decent run in the Europa League. That's two years in a row that they've finished third by just a point now.
Squad - I'm having to start replacing players as they get older, but the squad is still great.
Reserve Squad - I'm trying to get a group of local players together, they aren't great but hopefully that will change in time.
Transfers - Coronel wanted to leave, which was shame but at 31 I had to cash in.
Finances - a decent profit.
Key Player Profiles:
Flávio - our top scorer.
Antonin Guillot - a bargain at £3m, he's played superbly.
Admir Juric - a superb return for the winger.

Looks like Glentoran are quickly becoming the 2nd team in NI.
dafuge Do you plan on keep going in this career or do you have an aim then you will move on to something else?
My aim is to get the NI league to be the best in the World, but I doubt I'll ever do that so I'll probably just keep going until FM13.
Unbelievable Dafuge!
Out of interest how long does it take for you to complete a season?
whats the most you have ever sold a player for?
World Leading Transfers
£50m (twice), for a star striker and a goalie!
Have other NI clubs besides the top three ever qualified for the group stage of Europa League?
Can you post screenshot of nations sorted by UEFA coefficients. I'd like to see how far you are from reaching at least top 5 spot.
Nation Coefficients
Qualification Places
There's a fairly big gap to the next two clubs, which we can't really make up until multiple NI clubs progress in Europe on a regular basis.
The Liechtenstein situation is pretty interesting, FC Vaduz had an outstanding season last year which has propelled Liechtenstein up the list since they only have one club!
Isn't the Liechtenstein situation kind of a bug?
they cannot qualify through the swiss league daf, they always get entered for the europa league representing liectenstien. IRL, the winner of the Liechtenstien cup qualifies but as the game doesnt have this cup included vaduz just qualify automatically. Or thats how i understand it.
That explains it then. The best they have done in Switzerland is a couple of cup final appearances and a third place but they play in the Europa League every year.
Daffy - Have you actually managed to get your board to improve junior coaching or youth recruitment?
You would have thought with my Seaptrick side having just beaten Chelsea 4-0 in the Champions' League Final that they would accept my request to improve these. Alas apparently everything is cushty for a club of our size!!!!
The new stadium was built nearly 12 years ago so I have another 8 to go (2048). Perhaps these abilities get maxed out depending on your stadium?
I've been able to slowly improve them, but it seems that the youth facilities needed to be improved first before the others got upgraded. A new stadium made no difference, so I'm assuming it is unrelated.
My junior coaching is up to 'exceptional' (is that the max?) but my youth recruitment seems harder to upgrade, it is currently 'above average'. Youth facilities are 'state of the art' and look like they may have another upgrade on the way.
Daf
Quick question. I've been adopting your player search technique (ie under 21, sort by PA and then CA). I was wondering what you do when you're dealing with a top class team? Presumably searching for an under 21 DMC interested in joining your club would yield thousands of results? Do you filter them down at all?
Cheers
saab693
Ah that's interesting. How do you choose that value? I see you had £500k initially on the screenshot you posted on here. Is that 1500 players for one position or all players u21?
I raised that value as the club grew, to try and cut out players with lower potential. I'm bound to miss a few gems but it makes scouting easily manageable. My player search with those filters currently shows 1355 players in total, from a total of 40790 unfiltered.
Also Daf, don't suppose you have screenshots of Vucojevic when you signed him and at his prime? I assume he won a fair few accolodes in his time?
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2042/43
With another Champions League title in the bag and Glentoran on ths up, things were looking good in Northern Ireland.
League Table
The usual draw, against Tobermore!
Domestic Cups - I fielded a lot of the youth players in the less important matches, but we still did the clean sweep.
UEFA Champions League - undefeated, although there were a few close matches. The final was not one of those
Glentoran in Europe - they destroyed Arsenal in the group stages then managed to defeat Porto in the first knockout round. The quarter final gives away the bigger story though.
Linfield in Europe - not a great start, but Linfield went on to an historic run. The draw was kind to them, as Inter showed.
Squad - immense strength in depth as usual.
Reserve Squad - the team of local players is growing, and starting to produce some decent players.
Transfers - star striker Damiano wanted to leave, which was a shame. Other than that is was just a couple of straight swaps.
Finances - a decent profit.
Key Player Profiles:
Flávio - our top scorer again.
Jorge Ubieto - a great season for the winger.
Srdjan Jevic - brought in as cover, he had a great season.
Antonin Guillot - had a decent year as the supporting striker.
Steven Lennon - not really a key player, but he looks like the first local player who might make the first team.

Things couldn't have really gone better for the clubs of Northern Ireland, I'm just hoping they can build on this next season.
Great year for NI clubs, will be great to see if they can do it again next year.
I didn't take a screenshot in his first season as I didn't really rate him, this is the earliest one I have. This was his greatest season.
I really should have written about him in that last update. With Damiano leaving and me not being able to replace him, Vuko got another chance in the first team. He wasn't that impressive, but it was great to see him happy and playing again.
Reputations
Carling Premiership - 9th in European competitions (3.5 stars, up half a star) - up 3
Bourneview - 1st in UEFA coefficients - no change
Northern Ireland - 9th in UEFA coefficients - no change
Northern Ireland - 97th in FIFA rankings - down 13
Linfield - 37th in UEFA coefficients - up 19
Glentoran - 33rd in UEFA coefficients - up 10
We are making great progress, but we need to keep it up. In three years time we stand a decent chance of moving up the rankings, but we have to have three good years.
why did you keep vuko for so long? could you not cash in on him?
i always tend to sell players who are over 30... no loyalty i suppose![]()
Oh what a season!!!!!!!!! Any big transfers for Glentoran and Linfield that resulted in European success?
With such rise in the rankings they will have even better seedings for the draw.
With such rise in coefficients it might happen that even 4th team becomes seeded in final EL qualifying stage.
Couple of cracking signings there daf. So where you signed the 23 year old, how did your scouting policy work for that? Was it just that you couldn't find anyone u21 so upped the age range?
a fantastic season for NI clubs. It wont be long before you are facing Glentoran or Linfield in the final!
What's the biggest win you've had in the league?

It nearly happened this year!
The draw was fantastic though, Glentoran and Linfield drawing each other in the quarter finals was perfect.
Edited my above post![]()
13-0, although that was 12 years ago!
Have you taken the record for most Champions League trophies yet? Sorry if I have missed it.
Thanks Daf. Out of interest, do you use the same approach right from the start of the game? Presumably you needed a lot of new players very quickly with limited scouting capabilities? Did you do anything differently at that stage?
Appreciate you help, I find this thread absolutely fascinating. Think it's worth taking a moment to step back and point out that you just got 3 NI clubs into the semi-finals of the CL. What scenes!
Ah ok but the onus was still very much on young players with potential though? How long did it take you to assemble a team (assuming you had very few scouts to hand)?
Yes, I went for under 21s. Here's my first transfer window, is was pretty hectic as I brought in loads of players then started replacing them within the year.
Wow! Any idea how many you scouted to get that list?
I suppose my point was surely it took a long time for 2-3 scouts to get through the list of players you gave them to look at? Did you start the league with a very weak team which you updated as the season went on?
Most of the players I signed early on were brought in on trial, the players I replaced them with were the ones my scouts found (which took a while).
Just checked the Ryman Premier Division, not looking good for your old club I'm afraid dafuge. One loss away from being relegated![]()
Bourneview Young Men - Carling Premiership - 2043/44
With three clubs in the Champions League quarter finals, Northern Ireland really put itself on the map last year. Now we had to build on it.
League Table
Institute this time.
Domestic Cups - the youth players featured in a lot of the cup games and we almost had the usual clean sweep, but Glentoran beat us in the Setanta Cup Final.
UEFA Super Cup - this match should never have got to penalties, but we won.
FIFA Club World Cup - this one could have gone either way.
UEFA Champions League - PSG kept us off the top spot in the group, but we hit form in the knockout rounds. The final was a tight affair which we were lucky to win.
Glentoran in Europe - the draw was harsh, but this was a disappointing season.
Linfield in Europe - missing out on the group stage was a disaster, much like their Europa League campaign.
Squad - there's a bit of reshaping going on as a number of players approach 30.
Reserve Squad - the squad is slowly growing, I should have a full team in a few years.
Transfers - a number of players were sold, with younger, more talented players brought in.
Finances - pretty much broken even.
Key Player Profiles:
Flávio - our top scorer again, but no insane total this year as the youth players took the easy cup games.
Antonin Guillot - another great striker.
Admir Juric - an incredible player.
Robert Roche - he's proving very hard to replace.
Steven Lennon - the star of the youth setup, he's looking great.

There's not a lot more we can do, we just need Linfield and Glentoran to progress in Europe. Our youth facilities are now maxed out, so I should start to see some better players coming through.
Another cracking season and hopefully progress continues to be made by Linfield and Glentoran.
Well that balances the last season out then!! Lennon looks like he could be a good player, does he have the potential to play for your team?

All the good work of last year undone, and none of it my fault
Another great season for you Daf, but not NI. Is there an argument that without the scouting strategy you implement, Glentotan and Linfield will never make the step up to your level?
How come Linfield are going backwards now?
Just a quick one daf, would you sign a youngster with 2* CA and 4* PA or would you deem the CA too low?
Thanks daf.
So you'd sign a player with 3* PA? That's interesting as I've been ignoring anyone with less than 3.5. Presumably it's only because your team is at such a high standard now that a youngster needs incredible potential to be considered a future prospect? When you were in the lower leagues (or even the highest league but not world class) what sort of PA would you be looking at or would 3* still be considered acceptable?
Really appreciate your time daf.
I've actually signed players with 2.5/2.5, who have been good enough for the first team. Because my squad is so strong, it is hard to find youngsters that will improve it.
It's really hard to say as it all depends on your squad/scouts, but in the early years I'd be looking for 5* from the scout report.
At the start of the game is potential or ability more important? Managing Bala almost every player appears to have 4 or 5 * potential, so how can I tell them apart? Thanks
You're career is going awesome, how are the other clubs doing in the Europa cup?
