At what point do you start getting more players accepting part-time contracts rather than non-contracts? That's bugging me at the moment, I know I'm miles from turning pro.

#37 - Northwich Victoria - Blue Square Premier - Season 2 - 2013/14
Blue Square Premier - 15th
FA Cup - 1st Round
FA Trophy - 2nd Round
Survival! Yes, we did it, it wasn't pretty, but we did it. To say our form was inconsistent would be an understatement. Start of the season we had a 4 game unbeaten run, then we went winless for 10 games. Our best run of form came at the end of the season, finishing with a 7 game unbeaten run. Constant injuries, like Jeremy Helan's broken foot, did not help, but that's now behind us. Let's hope next season we can improve for at least a midtable finish.
First round of the FA cup, lost to Carlisle, a League 1 side. Only 1 - 0, mind.
FA Trophy was a disappointment after last year's run to the final.
Transfers
Lots again, probably didn't help with our form at all.
Key Players
None, to be honest. Everyone was average or thereabouts.
Next Season
Midtable finish
More talent, preferably cheap and foreign
Not going bankrupt - we're 600k in debt.

I don't time to comment on everyone's updates today, but I am reading them and thanks for posting them! Its good to see that more people must be finding something that works and are having more success!
I saw one of my favorite FM players, Joe McKee, mentioned. If anyone is looking for a midfielder, hes a great buy. I've had him in my Chippenham squad for the last 3 FMs (sadly hes not eligible this year) and hes fantastic. I've always used him as Box to Box attacking and he plays well that way. He's good for ~10 goals a year at least from set pieces, which is awesome for my teams which struggle to score. Glad someone is getting some great use out of him since I cant
Welsh Wizard: Congrats on turning Pro! Can we get a SS of your finances to see what levels we need to aim for? (or is it based on getting to League 2?)
I've had many players turn down part-time contracts and only accept non-contracts. Probably works out cheaper but has obvious training disadvantages.....
Guys Ive been thinking - i didnt really take part in this challenge last year, but is this the most active it's ever been? 78 entrants so far, over 1000 posts and FM has only been out a week!!!
Hahaha!!
This is after a 20-minute hat-trick!!!
1st season, I'm 3pts clear with 4 games left. Tense!
Leroy - you didnt post your manager profile at the start.....which team are you playing as?
sorry yer I forgot and it was too late as I went past the date! I'm Hastings United. Posting end of season update within an hour or so! Any idea what number I will be to make it easier for you?
Cant know that until you post - why not post your profile now, just mention that you forgot to do it at the start, and it'll be fine. That way I can give you a number before you post your first update....
Yeah think based on League 2 as had more money than I got now(£455,783) Maybe if someone managed to make £1mil+ before L2 they might turn pro but I never reached that. I think I had Joe McKee last year as had loads of Scots but can't remember but rings a bell but happy to have him now anyway.
Might be getting mixed up with Rhys McCabe who was also class ( goes to search on FM 12)
More active than last year I would guess. Was quite active last year more so than I can remember(Think I've done every dafuge challenge) so likely most active ever.

Well, I'm not gonna do a fancy season review like some of you guys, although I am in awe of them, so I might work on one another season.
Anyway, after a very average season we finished 12th - Table
I think you can see from the Position Graph that we just hovered around safety all season.
I built a tactic designed to de defensive, in the hope of nicking a few goals on the counter. The result of this was the 4th lowest conceded total in the division.
Sadly my strikers all turned out to be dire, resulting in the 2nd lowest goals scored total...
In all honest, if you'd offered me 12th place at the start of the season, I'd have ripped your arm off so I cant be too worried.
If I was forced to pick a player of the season, it would be Hoyte.
He was one of only 5 or 6 original Bedford players to retain a place in the team, and started every single game during the season, finishing with an average rating over 7. Not too shabby. He was also my top goal scorer. With 8. From DC. Says it all really.
I shipped a few players out at the start of the season, and then brought more in as and when I found them - Transfers
Plans for next season
I guess we need to ship out a few more players, and retain the ones who were decent. I have a few guys on wages that dont represent value for money, and I'll get rid of them, and probably work on a new, more attacking tactic.

No problem Grey... Here is my profile then, very late (nearly end of season 1). Do apologise, as forgot to post this earlier:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Yeah did have McKee found a post in 11 with Quavis saying he also had in on 10.(also found one image that still works my transfers in first season)
Number 79, Leroy.
I'm starting this challenge, have never played the actual challenge before, but tried it out one time by myself on FM 2010 with Wealdstone. Eventually got them to the Prem but coudln't crack the top 6 places.

Hadn't even so much as kicked a ball in anger and had a takeover.
Everyones favorite sporting business man. Barry Hearn
That would be the other half of my midfield duo from the last 3 yearsAlso class for the lower leagues! (although usually harder to convince to sign than McKee)
Shame on L2 being the trigger. Not sure I will make it that far this year without it lol. My squad for this season (not through pre-season yet), is going to be mostly players already at the club with a few "faceinthegame" mixed in.

Great start to the season. Just hoping we can keep it up!
Oh, and how on earth does this player do as good as he does? He is a youth player I started because my only other left midfielder was injured.
#79 Hastings United - End of Season 2012/13
Table - Squad - Profile - Transfers
My first season was one of great success. We were promoted with one game to spare, with only Dartford showing any interest in challenging us for that place in the BSP. There were 2 main key areas to my success this season. The first was this bloke:
John Bird
At 16 years of age (when signed) I expected little, but from game one he was dangerous at every attack. Should be a great hit next season
Secondly this bloke:
Craig Wright
Was there from the start, but with Birdy alongside him, scored regularly.
A noticeable mention for the Goalkeeper, Loris Karius, who I see many of you have signed. A great cheap starting Goalkeeper clearly BSP level at least! Knocked out of the FA Cup by Farnborough in the 4th qualy round, and beaten in the FA Trophy Qtr finals by Newport County, but to be honest the way the league was going, they were the least of my worries.
going into next season I'm looking to consolidate will probably aim to around 14th-16th.

Delighted with this !GET IN !
Still in my first season with Buxton. Rep is just 850 and not getting many through the gates (480 last game).
Im actually on a decent run after a poor start and knocking on the door of a play off spot (only September) but it looks like im losing £20k per month. Not really sure why as I kept within the pay structure.
I need a cup run. Just one game against even a League 2 club would generate a decent return. Looks like I might have to struggle on and hope I dont get the sack
EDIT - Just got Manager of the Month
Last edited by kccircle; 27-10-2011 at 21:58.
Well, its been a mixed month and I would do well to get back into a playoff position at the moment. Hopefully February will be a good month and we can move back into contention.
Just had a little mini windfall. A win in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying round vs N Ferriby generated £5k in gate receipts and £4.5k in prize money. Two more rounds in the FA cup should see a difference in my finances. My squad is top heavy, I didnt think it would matter as most are on appearance money only.
Does the whole squad receive income where a win bonus is concerned or just the playing XI / 16 man squad??
Ladies and gents, may I present the terror of BSN defences, Mr Conor Doyle. What a signing he's proving!!

Manager of the Year Runner Up
A suprisingly good first season in the BSP. Team gelled fast and only a few transfers in. Finished 5th and had a good first match vs Fleetwood, whom our team had not lost to yet. Both legs ended with a 1-0 victory. In the final, in front of 38818 we played Mansfield - a team we yet have to defeat and who won 2-1.
Followed same pattern this season as last. Played 5-3-2 away and a mix of 4-4-2 and 5-3-2 at home, depending on the condition of the defenders. Didn't score that many goals this season, but am really pleased we were the team that conceded the least.
Did manage to have the 1st position in 1 game round, and that was a good position, which we will aim to try a little longer next season. As for transfers, we only really are short a good left winger and maybe a better keeper. Lorius Karius is great, but i not that consistant.
Probably would have attempted to sign more players over the season, if the chairman hadn't decided to try and sell the club over atleast 5 months of the season...idiot..
FA Cup: exit in 2nd rnd to Yeovil 2-1 away.
FAT Cup: exit in 1st rnd to Gillingham 2-0 away
Players who had an impact over the season:
Defense:
- Carl Flynn: New signing, previous Shamrock Rovers. Solid in defense and very good in offense, scored 10 goals over the season.
Midfield:
- Alex Billington: Hero of the defense last season, enjoyed a good run on ML as well as DL. 19 assists over the season.
- Toby James: Only consistant midfielder this season in offensive and defensive playing. (well until he got a 5 month injury)
Attack:
- Tom Lawrence: Didnt have as great a season as last year, but he played an important part in front with Mark Hayes.
- Mark Hayes: New signing from Shamrock Rovers. Is the reason goal scoring wise, we managed to end up 5th, high hopes from him next season.

Just had a great result in the local derby at Altrincham. It didn't look great at 2-0 down but then we turned it around!
woohoo, I've finally finished in a Play-Off place, season update soon
With Buxton I have managed to sneak through the 3rd qualifying round of the FA cup - decent cash for a BSN team and a 700+ crowd to boot. Ashton in the 4th round now (They beat FC United)
A good month, not a great month, but we can see the playoff zone. well signed a few players and got a few injuries. The targer in March is the get right into the playoff zone, and hopefully cut the lead at the top. Come on Carshalton!!!![]()
Looking at all the players everyone is signing, I dont recall coming across any of them.

END OF SEASON
At last, promotion! We were in the Play-Offs most of the season and never really troubled top spot. We had a great win in the Play-Off Semi Final against Eastleigh then we managed to win 2-1 against AFC Wimbledon in the Final at our ground plus some extra money thanks to a big crowd.

Good luck in the BSP.
Dan BHTFC - Well done on Promotion and Good Luck in BSP. Does seem to be a bit more of a gap this year.
Bad draws in both cups for my first season --- out in 3rd qual round in FA cup, 3rd qual round in FAT after this shock goal was allowed, consigning my team to defeat against a well fought battle against a highly tipped Boreham wood team....
Still only in October here in my first year with Hastings United, but I have found my man!
My scouts unearthed this little fella, 18 years old and zero professional games under his belt.
I think he wants to make an impression....
4 goals in 4 games from AML, with 3 assists as well.
Granted 3 games were against non league FA Cup qualifiers, but me likee
6 of my starting XI are 21 or under, including the full back four (avg age of 19). 4 of the bench are under 21 too.
Hoping to ride the youthful exuberance before they wilt.....
28 games gone in the first season and I sit nicely in 4th. Least goals conceded and the second best goal difference. http://i.imgur.com/52zI8.png

Chesham United | Season 2015/16 | New years update
Table | Squad | Finances | Transfers
This has been a great season so far where everything has gone our way so far. We started great and have kept our form all season, and if it continues we should have a good chance of promotion this year. I was worried before the season started considering the board cut my wage budget, but it kinda helped as we got rid of loads of dead weight. I also sold two players this summer to gain some need cash and tried to replace them with free ones. This has been a great season so far and I do hope it continues as long as possible. We now have an eight point lead and hopefully that is enough to keep us ahead if we hit a slump in form.
We are still in both cups and hopefully we can progress even further. In the FA Cup we have had easy matches so far and we are up against Gateshead in the 3rd round. A tie that should be possible. In the FA Trophy we have only played one match so far, our thrashing of Southend.
The players that have been the biggest contributers to our great season so far has been Ümit Eminoglu and his partner up front Anders Rĝmer. In the net we have had a great goalkeeper in Marek Farkas, even though he doesn't have many clean sheets he has saved us numerous times. We've gotten a great new right back who also has showed some skills in Radim Skacel.

What a way to end my season! Almost could not make it to the playoff as the team was having a bad string of defeats and unable to score totally. (This bring me to my target for next season - better quality striker)
FA Cup
Reach 3rd round and lost 0-3 to stoke, but that was good $ for club. Almost 300k earning!
FA Trophy
Never performed as well as previous season, knocked out @ 3rd round. Will try to aim for win
Squad | Finances
Found a couple of new player which help the team this season.
James Tarokwski - Good and stable defender.
Robbie Brady - Excellent winger.
Darren Potter - Another good midfielder that top my assist table
Much better in term of my finances this season!
Goal for next season!
- Build on the $
- Try to get promoted
- Get rid of deadwoods.
Can't wait to get home and play.. grrr @work
@tapwater: to bad mate, trying to be become champion next season?
First non-european player to join the club
Sweet! And I should get some extra cash since it's an away tie against a PL outfit aswell!
Another hat-trick for Doyle!!
I rage quit the game this morning.
I seriously think the game hates me.

Hastings 1st Season mid-season report:
A good run in December (4 league wins in 5 matches) put us comfortably in the top half of the table. Could be better, but some injuries in the middle part of the half hurt, with little cover. A few key signings have plugged those gaps, and the team seems to have gelled fairly well. I'm still £1K under my wage budget, so one or two players might still be brought in. I finally have a couple of good playmakers in the center and on the right---a ML and DL might be the final keys. With no cup matches left to look forward to (out in the 3rd qualifying round of both cups) I can put in a concerted effort to make the playoff spots----well above what I envisioned for my first season, but currently well within my grasp.
1st Half Table
A couple key players:
Jordan Tunnicliffe -- a relatively late signing, becoming a solid rock in defence with 4 MOM in 9 league appearances -- also earned player of month for December
Ethan Mannion--not as prolific in my save as on a couple others in this thread, still joint top of the scoreboard for Hastings (in total goals scored). Chipped in with 4 league assists.
Chris Molyneaux My 16 yo striker is still doing well --- though he's proven to be a bit injury prone---missed 2 months over two separate one-month windows. Scored the teams only hattrick a couple weeks after recovering from his first injury. 9/4 goals/assists, all in league matches. Not a signing--native to the team.
A couple recent signings look to be quality --- one tipped to have Championship potential, another to have L1 potential. Will see how they pan out throughout the season.

Colin Greener - Hendon - BSBS 5th place (play off promotion) Season 2012/13
Finished my first season with promotion via the playoffs. Started the seaons very well, only lost 1 in 20, but then had a very bad spell over winter, but mnaged to get back in the playoffs towards the end of the season. Won the semi final first leg 5-0, so put out the reserves and lost 5-3. For the final, two of my better players were called up by N.Irealand U19. But still won the final 2-1 after extra time, and my GK contrived to get himself sent off by walking outside the area in the 118th minute. Managed to hold on though.
I've found the most important signings have been my staff, got Benjani as a coach, and found a really good scout. My assistant is also good at judgin players helping me pick the best players. At the beginning of the season I must've signed over 100 players on trial, reflected in the amount of players I've bought and sold.
It's been a good season, next season is all about consolidation.

And We're off too Wembley !!!!!!![]()
damn for some reason i am still fav for relegation even after 3rd placing in our 1st season in BSP.....something is wrong with this!
Someone mind checking my figures in the table? I dont think they add up and I dont know why. I need to know which teams have more or fewer than I say, whether the league stats are correct, and whether the total number of end-of-season posts is correct. I know the teams arent, but cant see quickly which one.
I'm doing this all the time but the longer it gets the harder it is, and if I'm not careful I'll spend more time doing that than playing the game itself!!!
Thanks!
just played FA Trophy final against Kettering at Wembley infront of just over 22,000
it was a close fought game with it finishing 0-0 in ninety minutes and 1-1 after extra time meaning it was down to the lottery of penalties
kettering duly when the toss and got to go first in the shooout
we were evenly matched with both sides scoring their first 3 penalties, kettering scored their fourth penalty putting the pressure on us, Thornley stepped up for us but blasted his penalty wide of the left post, this meant we had to pray Kettering would miss their last, but their player confidently stepped blasting the ball straight down the middle of the goal after our keeper tried to guess which way and moved early
meaning Kettering ran out 5-3 winners on penalties
Gonna have to sell Doyle as he wont sign a new contract![]()
Gypsum's Worksop town - Blue square Premier - 2013/14
League position: 12th / Position chart - A decent league run overall, but our early progress towards the playoff places was hampered by injuries and the fixture congestion caused by our FA cup run.
FA Cup - Managed to beat two League 1 clubs before succumbing to Championship Blackpool. As with our league form, we never struggled for goals, but clear sheets were rare.
Transfers
Finances - A good cup run and constant cash injections from the board have kept our finances looking extremely healthy, with £500k in the bank.
General squad info
Star players:
1- Liam Reffin - Our star centre-back, who also managed to bag 18 goals as the target man from set pieces!
2- Victor Zapata-Caicedo - A Columbian striker with 16 goals and 16 assists.
3- Colin Patrick O'Brien - The young Irishman built on last season's promise and ended up as our top scorer with 24 goals.
Notable mentions: Sean Thornton - An experienced midfielder who brought a lot of class to our midfield, with 20 assists.
Other information: We're due to move into the 6255 capacity Worksop stadium before the start of the next season.

Don't know what to make of this tbh, I'm pleased we've made the play-offs, but the fact that we were in the automatic places for quite a long time will leave a very sour taste in my mouth if we don't go up.
Play-off semi-final 2nd leg
Well, we've made the final at least.

CHESHAM UNITED F.C - Season 2012/13
Super start to the challenge. Promotion in my first season despite taking a miserly 5 points from my first 7 games. In truth, that was more down to over-intricate tactics that weren't suitable to the calibre of player I had at the club. Once I got rid of a bit more of the deadwood already in the squad, added a bit more quality to the squad, and underwent a bit of simplification, we found our winning rhythm. If the start of the season hadn't been so poor, we probably would have won the league instead of a very comfortable playoff win. 6-3 aggregate Semi-Final win over Salisbury in the semi-finals, followed by another 6-3 final thriller over Truro. It wasn't all joy though, as I went down 2-1 in the FA Trophy Final to a far superior Stockport side.

Further to the promotion, the other big positive I'm taking from the season, is having achieved it while making a 130k profit for the season, something I've never come close to achieving in previous years.

forgot to take screenshots was busy getting lunch and suddenly realised on 6th June hadn't done them, taken all i needed to but the finances has just changed to this season but clearly shows that at end last season we made a healthy profit. So here goes the update
a poor season in the league with us only surviving relegation with 3 games left to play. the reason for this was our run in the FA Carlsberg Trophy which saw us get all the way to the final losing 5-3 on penealties to Kettering in front of just over 22,000 on a sunny saturday afternoon in May at Wembley.
the trophy run meant we started getting a backlog of games due to a couple of trophy games going to replays and players were getting tired and losing match fitness because of injuries. tried to use some of the reserves but for some reason the reserves only played once in February and March and a couple of times in April which meant these players were also not match fit but some how we managed to get though it.
once again the best player this season was our centre back Dean Dean who played 53 out of the 57 games we played, and if it wasn't for him doing he usual at setpieces by somehow losing his maker alot, getting to the ball and scoring 19 goals making him our top scorer for the second season in a row.
on a plus side because of the trophy run we finished with a profit of £168,378 for the season.
Table Graph Squad Best Player Xfers1 Xfers2 Finances
plan for next season
1) improve squad
2) find some players who can actually hit a barn door so i dont have to rely on my centre back to score all the time
3) try to finish mid table or higher if possible
4) have another cup run to improve finances even more
5) try to get training facilities a small upgrade to help with squad fitness so we dont have the same as towards end of last season
Playing my first game in the Blue Square Premier, currently 3-0 up at half time against Tamworth
1 game played and top of the table, can the season finish now please?
WOW
WHAT a game 2-2 draw away to Oldham (L1) with my equaliser coming in the 94th min with a penalty
About 90k from the game, which is quite nice i suppose but i was hoping more like 150k.
Drew even against Colchester (L1) away FA Cup match. Really surprised but ill take it.
Nice purse to boot for tv revenue (130k)
19 games into my second season and sitting in 3rd, 2 points behind leader. This year has been much better after i changed my away tactics and it has made a huge difference.

YES! Signed Doyle up for a couple more years! Not cheap at £26k per year, but he has 30 goals in 32 games so I think he's worth the outlay....
Have to take that back. Bleeding crash dump wiped that out along with my glorious Grimsby victory and some good form too!!! :-(
Start saving after each match, G.O.M.!
A 21 day wait between my last league game and my fa trophy final ??? :O
