The Aim

To take a small club who were previously unplayable in an unedited game from the Blue Square N/S to Premier League and Champions League glory.

The Rules

Load a game with the English leagues only, with the Blue Square N/S selected. The attribute masking, real players and transfer boxes ticked and the add key staff box unticked. It should look like this.

Just like previous years, the players for the newly playable clubs need to be added which can be done using a custom database. The players from the three feeder league have to be added, which looks like this. If people wish to add extra players, players from top clubs in each continent may be loaded, but no more.

The extra levels of detail that you can change while in the game are up to you, as they shouldn't make a difference.

Add yourself as an unemployed manager, the details are not important at all. I like to call mine 'Holiday Man'.

Go on holiday until 24th June, this shouldn't take too long, perhaps about an hour. Saving on 23rd June may give you a better choice of teams by reloading the game then going on holiday for one day, I would strongly recommend trying this.

Retire your 'Holiday Man' manager, maybe after his career on holiday he could take up gardening?

Add a new manager, the options are up to you but 'past experience' must be set to the lowest possible which is 'Sunday league footballer'. I understand that choosing different nationalities may have an effect later on, but I trust people will be sensible with this. I would expect people to use their own true nationalities.

When adding a new manager, choose one of the new clubs promoted to the Blue Square North or South to manage. They should appear in this list which also shows the reputation of the possible clubs. The reputation should act as a difficulty level, the lower the reputation, the harder your game should be.

It is now up to you to manage this club all the way to the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League crown.

You may not move clubs unless you are sacked.

If you get sacked, you can either take over a newly promoted club that satisfies the original criteria (check the club's league history), or just start again.

Any form of international management is not allowed, until you have completed the challenge.

Assigning parent clubs and loaning players is completely up to the player, although it should be noted that on occasions a parent club can lend players which will make the first season or two slightly less of a challenge. It is completely up to you how you play this one, but everyone knows real men don't use parent club loans. Personally, I like to assign a parent club for financial benefits but never take any players on loan from them.

To sign a player, you must be able to scout them, this doesn't mean you have to, just he must be accessible to your scouts. If you have a foreign player on a free transfer who is willing to come on trial, you do not need to be able to scout them, as long as you have them at the club on trial so you can get a coach report on him. If an agent offers you a player, you can sign him without scouting him.

No external utilities such as scouting programs should be used and the database should be unedited, this is particularly important with the new changes to the editor. Should SI release a data update, this would be allowed but any other data updates are not. It is advised that people should update using the latest patches as they are released, which should be easy with th emove to Steam.

Just as always, no extra leagues can be loaded, this includes extra leagues being added during a game.

Use of save game editors is strictly banned, whatever the reason.

Rules for this Thread

Player naming is allowed.

General discussion on tactics is allowed, although people should not refer to downloaded tactics. They are not banned, but I would expect the majority of people to avoid them.

Screenshots for anything are encouraged but please post links to your pictures, don't post them as images as it makes the pages slower to load. Posts included embedded images may be deleted without warning.

When you join the challenge, could you post a screenshot of your manager's profile on the 24th June.

Progress of your club should be documented using this thread, we want to hear the story of your club all the way through. Please keep us updated, even if you are doing really badly.

At the end of every season, could everyone post some kind of season review, including at least a screenshot of a league table and the clubs transfer page. If you give this a title in bold it makes it a bit easier to pick out.

How to Post a Screenshot

While in FM, press Alt and F9
A picture will be saved to a screenshots folder, in the FM12 folder in your documents
Upload the image to an image hosting website such as Photobucket
Post the direct Url to the image here.

How to Add Links

At the top of the forum, go to 'Settings' then 'General Settings' (on the left). At the bottom, select 'enhanced interface' and save the changes. This will give you access to the extra posting tools that make it easier to post links. Once you've done this, highlight the word you wish to turn into a link, then use the link button (looks like a little globe) to paste in the direct Url to your screenshot.

Hmm how come you have 35000 players shown in ure screen shot? got exactly the same settings and only seeing an estimated 17000?

Im hopping for chippenham, have played as them for the last few years of this challange never completed it tho

got as far as the premier league a few times but then just yoyo between there and the Championship not been able to get stable and challange for the title! but here is hoping for this year

The 35000 was from a previous setup, the correct number should be 17000. I've replaced the screenshot now to avoid further confusion.

The one name that screams out to me is Met Police, but I doubt they will turn up due to their low reputation. Other than them I guess it would be Weymouth, as they are fairly local.

I played as Weymouth last year. really enjoyed them. They are my back up for this year if i cant get Banbury.

Played 8, won 5 drawn 3 lost 0 so far. Media predicted 23rd and I'm joint top so not too shabby.

I should add that in the past we have discouraged the sharing of save games since the random CA/PA assignment and the AI shortlisting may mean that your save games are not quite as unique as they should be.

They have never been against the rules, but I just wanted people to know the disadvantages of using a save game to get started.

Ah ok sorry, just thought it would be a way for people to save some time, is it ok to have links to saves of teams that come up? esp if some rare ones? kinda remember we had something similar last year with a list and Saves of most of the possible teams

That's fine, we have done that in the past, particularly for the rarer teams.

Fc United and Chester are almost always there in the BSN. Carshalton and Cambridge City appear in the BSS alot also.

BTW there is a really easy way to see if a team has been promoted, not sure if it as new feature but i certainly havent seen it before.... when you click on the team you see their league history as a graph so can straight away see if they are a promoted team that year!

St. Albans nearly every time. Only not had them twice, must be up to 25 ish reloads by now. Chester & Lewes alot too.

Not had anyone lower than 1050 rep so far.

Seen carshalton a lot and chester once. Also St Albans Lewes and lowestoft a lot. Seen bedford a few times and North ferriby once, these are the lowest rep ones so far (1050)

Historically 1000 has always been a bit of a benchmark, if you get a club below that then you are in for a decent challenge.

Hm unless i am mistaken looking at there history Blyth are a promoted team but do not show on the list in the intial post?

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I think the teams that are relegated can have an effect on the new teams that are promoted. Holidaying the year all over again can sometimes bring new teams appearing when reloading.

Blyth were not promoted, look under history and records

I never knew that. Just seen Oxford City the first 1000 or below team in about 50 reloads.

That's who i'm aiming for and not yet. From other people experiences it could take a while

The lowest I've gotten so far is Matlock Town with 1000 rep, saved it but reloading on the 23rd June save now

I think I'm hoping for Wingate and Finchley. If I do well, then they are potentially new local rivals for Arsenal - just down the road from Highbury. If I do badly, then once a season, when we win a game, we can have an enquiry into the "Wingate scandal" *laughs quietly to himself in the corner*

I set my game up earlier with Tooting and Mitcham, but then realised I had holiday'd until 25th June rather than the 24th.

As such, i'm going to start again, and keep reloading until I get a club with a rep of 1000 or less.

Hmm.. When signing scouts now - they already have players on their scouting list. If they have a player with information on, that is based where you cannot manually scout, is that an acceptable signing?
