Welcome to the fifth season of the Big Euro Nation Challenge, this year sponsored by iacovone, Lower Leagues Rule & rlipscombe in place of founder JoseRR.

The challenge runs similarly to many of the other popular challenges seen in the CSE forum (see dafuge's, Gundo's, Rancer's and Razor's) in that the aim is to guide a previously unplayable club from one of the below chosen league's to the top of the domestic and European food chain.

The Possible Countries

France

Spain

Italy

Portugal

Germany

Scotland

Turkey

Russia

If you choose to manage in Scotland you should holiday for one year (as per usual) and then select the team that finished rock bottom of this league.

The League Rules

France | Spain | Italy | Portugal | Germany | Scotland | Turkey | Russia

Saved Games (holidayed):

I will add these as soon as I have some of them.

Unless otherwise stated these saves have a large database with All Players from Nation, and Top Clubs from Europe

As Scotland and France's teams are already decided at the save date above, I have listed the available teams in each save. For the French ones there are four teams promoted, in the lower ones down my list if less teams listed then that means those are the new teams there.

For the other saves near the bottom I have just listed the teams I found as rare in my constant reloads, if anyone wants them they are the same set-up as the others, just have teams available.

League Reset Dates:

A list of all the league reset dates are shown below. If you have found any changes to this, please let me know.

All are now confirmed as correct in FM12.

France - 19th June
Turkey - 19th June
Italy - 29th June
Portugal - 29th June
Spain - 9th July
Germany - 19th June
Russia - 19th June
Scotland - N/A

The Rules - Playing

1) Load One Nation Only (All Available Divisions within your nation)

2) Your choice of Database Size (Large Recommended)

3) NO Edited Databases of any kind

4) Customising Database

  • Players from Top Clubs (Europe or All Continents - This increases the challenge at Continental Level)
  • Players Based in (Your Nation only - This can add up to 50% more players to your game)
  • If you wish to have correct club names etc - This File allows it without a database edit.
  • NO other additional customising is allowed.

5) Attribute Masking should be Enabled

6) Optional Ticks

  • Add Key Staff (This will give you a Scout, Physio & Ass Man by generating them if your club is without)
  • Add Players in Playable Nations (This will ensure your club has enough players to start with)

The extra levels of detail that you can change while in the game are up to you, as they shouldn't make a difference.

Steps in the Game

1) Add yourself as an unemployed manager, you will not use this man to manage your club.

2) Go on holiday until the reset date of your chosen nation (Should take about an hour)
Saving on the day before this date may give you a better choice of teams by reloading the game then going on holiday for one day, I would strongly recommend trying this.
3) Retire your unemployed manager.

4) Add a new manager
a) Past Experience lowest Possible (Generally Sunday League)

b) Other options are up to you
5) Choose to take over any club which has been promoted to the bottom playable league of your nation.
Easiest way in FM12 to see this is using Overview Screen, if the right side of graph says anything but 11/12 this team is newly promoted.
6) Manage them to National Title & European Championship

7) Celebrate Completing the Big Euro Challenge.

Other Things to Point out

1) If you are Sacked
(i) You can Restart from the beginning or;

(ii) Continue your game and pick a new club (Under Same Rules) at the end of the next season

(iii) Add another Big Euro League/Remove Current League, holiday a whole season and continue

a) You can still only have one nation running at a time

b) Once the league becomes active you MUST holiday a full season

c) The club must be one of those unplayable from the beginning
2) No Restrictions on Parent or Feeder Clubs

3) No International Management until after completion

Signing of Players

1) You must be able to scout them
You don't actually have to scout them, just be able to
2) Alternatively (If you can't scout them), you should bring them on a trial first

3) And from FM11 onwards Agents offer players, you are able to sign anyone sent to you via Agent Offer
(I suggest Screenshots of the offer)
The use of any external utilities and editors (Such as Genie Scout or FMM) are prohibited.

The Rules - Posting

1) Player naming is allowed. (This is a warning for those of you who do not wish to see this)

2) Discussion of tactics is allowed. (This is another warning for those of you who do not wish to see this)

Expected Posting of Updates

We have minimum expectations when it comes to a first up post and also in the end of season updates. Here are some suggested ideas for screenshots, but also in bold is what is considered minimum for your updates. Please follow this as best you can.

First Post:

Personal Page (Manager)

Overview Screen (Club)

Profile (Manager)

Information (Club)

Squad (Club)

End of Season Updates:

Transfers (Club) - This is so we can see the ins & outs

League Table (Competition)

Squad (Club)

Profile (Manager)

Personal (Manager)

Information (Club)

Anything else is optional, but we love to see every little detail in your game, I will show some examples of updates down below in the next post so you can see some of the stuff previously posted. Progress of your club should be documented using this thread, we want to hear the story of your club all the way through. Please keep us updated, even if you are doing badly. If you title your end of season report in bold this makes it easier to identify. Everyone will be supportive, and really get into your game if you give more detail, I also provide a list of some previous star players that may have become household names in this thread.

How to Post a Screenshot

1) While in FM, press the 'Prt Sc' button (usually next to F12 on your keyboard).

2) Open an image editing program such as Paint and paste the image

3) Save the file as a JPEG or PNG

4) Upload the image to an image hosting website such as Photobucket or Imageshack

5) Post the direct Url to the image here.

Alternatively using ALT + F9 in game saves a screenshot to your user data folder. (You can also edit this in the shortcuts options)

The LLR Motivational

Finally I would like to wish everyone taking on this challenge the best of luck on a long and hard journey to managerial success!

The atmosphere and contribution in this thread has always been excellent, long may it continue. As core members for every year, LLR and rlipscombe would like to add that we are here to help for the new challengers and hope everybody that participates contributes considerably to the thread. There is nothing better than getting immersed not only in your own game but providing the encouragement to other people's attempts too. Remember we are all fighting the same battle - to defeat the AI (and uncover fabulous newgens!) - therefore it goes without saying that any form of cheating will be severely chastised. Don't do it! We have had an incident in the past, lets not see it again - it spoils the challenge for the hard workers in here. :)

Away we GO!!!!

The History of the Big Euro Challenge

The Origins of this Challenge were in FM2008 when JoseRR realised there was a gap between the Gundos & Dafuges challenges, the Bigger Nations of Europe were being left out.

JoseRR's FM08 Small Club to Big Club From a Big European Nation Challenge

Thread

In FM08 there was a very slow start, and it seemed to dawdle along until Rlipscombe joined and it started to pick up, then I came along (as Des Tiny) and we kept it going until we were joined by Iacovone and others. A great little thread and the beginnings of something much larger.

FM09 was the peak of power for the Big Euro Challenge. The thread ended with an awards ceremony, there were over 6000 posts, a large number of completions and the best community spirit of any thread. It also managed to take out a few awards in the CSE awards at the end of the season.

FM11 Big Euro Nation: Small Club to Big Club Challenge

Thread

In 2011 LLR took over the running of the challenge, with assistance as always provided by Rlipscombe. The number of challengers dropped off a little, but the spirit in the thread continued once more as the core of players was the same that it had been for a few years now.

Kits & Logos

I have a mixture of packs that seem to cover most of the leagues, but I am going to attempt to update these for FM12, even if it means manually searching through the thousands of files I have and compiling them into one set of logos and kits. I currently have sets saved for lower leagues in every single season of FM, so hoping to build that into one lot that can be easily replaced/updated each season. I may actually try and put together a pack of logos and kits for each of our leagues (Or at least link to where they are able to be got from).

SS'11-12 is a work in Progress from Sortitoutsi, I will be using them as they build a set, but until then I will provide links to their old threads with the missing kits in them. Below each link is a list of the available Kits:

SS'11-12 Kits

France: Ligue 1 & 2 & National

Germany: Complete

Italy: Complete

Portugal: Liga Sagres

Russia: Prem & 1st League

Scotland: Complete

Spain: Liga BBVA & Adelante

Turkey: Complete

SS'10-11 Kits

France: CFA & Rest(You will need the relegated teams from National Pack too)

Portugal: Liga Vitalis (Also get the teams relegated from Liga Sagres)

Russia: Second Division (Also get the teams relegated from 1st League)

Scotland: Highland League (Only needed for Cups)

Spain: 2nd Div B (Also get the teams relegated from Adelante)

SS'08 Kits

Portugal: 3rd Division (These are from FM08 but should complete your sets)

Spain: Terciera Division (As Above)

You may end up with a few missing kits after taking all the above kits and putting them together, but it should be minimal, I can tamper with the Config files and make it so the extra kits can be set as one group if anyone has a problem.

Logos

I have found two packs, both seem to cover the whole range of leagues we compete in and a lot of others.

Button Logos

Metallic Logos

Hope all this helps everyone else's enjoyment of our thread this season - Jono

Awesome Soofking - Will see you when you get here.

As for you Twellman, good luck wherever you decide to go, I am a little torn between Spain again, or crossing to Italy, most likely Spain given I have done all the kit organising for there already. I may do holiday games on all the leagues though first, will see how I feel and how quick the first one is.

Thanks for the compliment on the posts, I just thought of things that could be added, and were some nice touches, also thought the opening post and rules needed a refresh. It has been the same since FM08, and was pretty much a copy of dafuge's meaning there were some unrelated comments in there. I am also tempted by Turkey and Russia at some point, I think the tough thing there is the foreigner rules as neither at EU, so foreigners is pretty much anyone not of their nation. (I think there are exceptions for some form Soviet Republics, but not many).

Glad you like it danger_mouse, it was really enjoyable reading back over 4 seasons of threads and some of the stellar updates that have been posted, also following careers of players again. An amazing sense of community in this thread just makes me keep coming back for more. Looking forward to it all.

First of all, i have to take my hat off to LLR for an OUTSTANDING opening post. quite possibly the best opening post for a thread ever. sets the bar high for the others. it has been a fascinating read, one which has taken me down memory lane. a few observations:

- i need to stop posting in this thread!! 3 out of 4 years as top poster is pretty impressive! :) 1 completion out of 4 not so... :D

- LLR you don't half get through some clubs...

- good to see so many people have tasted success. hopefully many of them will be back for another crack.

- i've been a bit of a trendsetter in teams to manage, what with having lled the way with Oviedo and Venezia.

reading the opening thread has made me reminisce about my old saves and helped steer me towards the country of choice for game one. i am pretty sure i will be returning to the scene of my finest hour, Spain. i have identified the club(s) i want should they gain promotion. we will wait and see.

So that's about it. i hope that the opening post spurs on a few people to give the challenge another go and help us get back to the golden years of 2009 and 2010. i would like to welcome any players this year and i hope that you enjoy this thread as much as i have. i still think this is the best challenge on the forum and i hope you get as much enjoyment out of this thread as i continue to do so.

Who wants to play a career forum game anyway?? ;) (before attempting this challenge anyway!!)

Thanks Rlipscombe, memory lane is good.

1) Top Poster has me in 2nd most seasons, and also only 1 completion from 4...

2) My Issue is clearly too many clubs, think I am going to try and work on that this season...

3) The range of players who have completed is great, but Big Ups to Ohanzee - 5 Completions in 3 Seasons...

4) Yes, I was tempted to call it "Manage whoever Rlipscombe does Challenge...

Good Luck finding whoever you do in Spain, I will most likely be there as well. Had a play in the Demo with Manacor, the lowest rep of all teams in the 2nd Division, so probably only see them in season one, but was a bit of a challenge to get players in and also a bit of fun too.

I will probably wait and see what happens with the teams that start to come up, don't really have an idea of who I want yet. Not going to go as Haro, been there done that. LOL, maybe a 5 letter name (Worked in 2010 - Fafe (4), then Evora (5))

Incredible opening post LLR (is there an echo in here?)

I'm truly delighted to see Da Luca honoured among the BEN greats - it really was a travesty that he never made his name at international level.

As I said before, I'm not sure I'll be doing BEN again this year, as I fancy a crack at Gundo's, but that doesn't mean I wont be following along :)

LLR - i have just come across a thread that sets a new bar on posts for any game. thought you might appreciate it:

http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/277977-FM12-Paris-Saint-Germain-FC

has inspired me a little.....

That is indeed one epic club post. Honestly, I actually think it would put me off reading someone's updates if they were that wordy every season, but for one-offs it truly is a spectacle.

i would probably agree with you to an extent, though the layout i like. as an opening post for a game be it a challenge or a career game it would be pretty special.

That's one huge and awesome opening posts Lower Leagues Rule! Really well done! If I had never done this challenge before I'm pretty sure I would go for it after reading that.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. There's been some amazing stories in these threads over the years. I didn't even realize I still had those old FC Mulhouse screens on my account. You made me go back and look at the 2009 thread now. Maybe it's time to go back to France *ponders* I was more or less set on Portugal though, but I'll probably spend all night pondering as usual.

As you put it yourself, I also love the atmosphere and contribution in this thread, and it's why I keep coming back. Hopefully we'll see even more people in here this season.

My game is pre-loaded and ready to go, so just twiddling my thumbs and reading some of those EoS reports you linked while I wait.

Holy...wow that just blows my reports completely out of the water, think it was a bit wordy though...maybe something at the end of a 30-40 year save game reporting the full history (I did do a twenty year report on Evora?).

Pretty much the best intro to a thread on here.........................ever - nice one

Scrap that, meh. Just read the PSG one - yours is now decidedly average ;)

Thanks KC, haha did look good til then.

missed my achievement as uni oviedo :( nvm i wil b bk though in a different country probs germany or scotland :) gd luck evry1 roll on 12 01

Looks like I have to go back now, I never meant to miss anyone out...only read about 15,000 posts in preparation lol

Fantastic opening posts there LLR. Very happy to have been mentioned amongst the notables for my Elgin City attempt. Whatever challenge I pick to start with this season, I am hoping to have enough motivation to manage a nice long epic save!

Good luck to everyone taking part in this one this season, should be some interesting stories emerging.

Arg, can't decide if I want to do this challenge or the Small nation challenge, quite fancied a run with Eschen-Mauren in Switzerland (Lichtenstein ftw).... However I haven't managed in France or Portugal....ever I think so, this might be a nice time to get aquinted with the leagues.

Hmmmmm

Great opening post there LLR, I'll be back here (as if there was any doubt) once my copy arrives in the morning.

It's just a case of whether to go to Portugal/Germany or one of Russia/Turkey. I had a go in Russia back when it was part of Gundo's - the foreigner rule was tough.

I'd just like to point out that Pajara Playas did complete the challenge too last year, though I got slack with updates, but there is a final one with a lot of the important information in, back on the old thread.

Good luck everyone. First one to complete buys everyone a beer.

Very proud to see both Diego Pastore and Marko Kresic up there - I clearly go for a certain 'type' of player.

Mine is up and running as well. Still not 100% on where I'm gonna start though.

But, on the topic of adding/removing leagues (I noticed you discussing it in the old thread), I played around with it a little cause I wanted to see the foreign rules in more leagues than France (which is what I loaded first). It seems if you add a league it will only actually be added on the next possible reset date of that league.

Screen

France was loaded to begin with. I added Russia, and it seems they will only actually be activated in 2012 (next Russian reset I assume?). While Spain will be added 10.7.2011, which is their next rest. So that's something to take into consideration if using this feature becomes an option at all.

Link to post

Actually, if the add/remove league dates are in fact league reset dates, then France, Turkey, Germany, and Russia have changed theirs. The first 3 with one day, and Russia with half a year, which can't be right. I guess that means the Russian leagues would be added mid-season to, wonder how that's gonna work.

Might wanna save your games on the 18th instead of 19th just in case if you're in one of Turkey or Germany though. (France don't really matter since the unplayable CFA decides who's promoted).

Link to post

Feel I ought to point out Turkey and Russia probably have been completed, it was just before they gained enough reputation to make it in here. I'm sure someone in the history of Gundo's has got them done.

Link to post

I have no idea to be honest. Not really following Russian football very close. :) But if starting a new game in Russia it says February as start date at least. Not sure how exactly they would manage to change it to a June start mid-season. I'm sure someone will go to Russia soon enough and find out though.

*edit* Good point PRDH, there's been lots of completions in there. Some very low reputation leagues to.
