Player profiles are comical. The most important part about them are the attributes and it looks like they've been squeezed in, text everywhere you look. Appearance info for the season removed, replaced with a useless apps/goals section that doesn't even show assists or average ratings, so meaningless if I'm looking at a defenders profile for instance.

Assistant report ruined, not clicking every position to find the best player, what was wrong with the quick and easy report for the formation I've set up to play.

Tactics screen is a horror show. New text is horrid and harder to read.

Sorry but whoever has designed this wants sacking. Those are my thoughts, take it on board or not but I'm not happy with this.
But just 10 minutes!? I need to have a year to get into a new game and I always surprised that the new game is better than the previous. And Im like you in the beginning.

I've downloaded the demo and now Steam won't even load up for me!

I'm stuck every time with a black steam box on my desktop saying "Connecting steam account: xxxxxxx" Any help or suggestions?

Christ you lot whine don't you. Yes it's gonna be slow downloading. 2GB doesn't just appear. Steam is merely an install thing no different to any installer. You don't need to leave it running. You sign up to the forums, you can sign up to steam. Nobody is forcing you to leap upon the demo the moment it is announced.

is there a way to put the demo on a usb once downloaded, or does Shteam Mclaren force me to download it three times over (specially good for people with download limits)?

The font is great, in fact the User Interface is great generally. Dynamic Searching is so useful! Well done SI :-)

PS So many people on here so quick to moan!

An update. All regions bar Germany, China, Hong Kong, North Korea and South Korea should all be available on Steam now. Apologies for the delay.

    First impressions:

    Positive:
-Looks like there is some really neat info available! Love the previous results graph.
-Team Meeting! First thing I tried, worked pretty well, wonder how it will work long term (and whether it can be exploited)
-Changing colour of stats! Works well, although a bit of a hassle to find something suitable, but once that's dialed down it makes things that much more pleasant.

    Negative:
-The email headings on the left side (so I guess it can be called inbox) are too small, really difficult to read, especially with the stark contrast
-Contrast in general, it already starts to hurt my eyes - Just found out there is also a dark skin will try that next.

You don't have to reinstall all your games in your library even if you uninstall steam as it leaves all your game folders intact. They will still be there in your steam folder, Steam/Steamapps/Common/ to be exact Which is nice.

small issue, during a free kick the opposition wall lined up on the wrong side of the free kick taker, and the keeper was positioned behind them, giving my player a clean strike on goal, was the intra squad friendly tho, but still not very good

the game itself looks sexy, feels sexy, and I'm enjoying looking for players to sign

No, it's linked to your account but I'm afraid for each new system you'll need to re-download.

I don't know if the suggestion to increase download speeds works, Neil, because I let it run for the first 10% using the London server (I'm in Glasgow) and I was getting 500 kb per second. I then changed it to the Manchester server and it dropped to 250 kb per second, and now that I've changed back to the London server it is refusing to return to the 500 kb per second I was initially getting. Confusing.

Still, it's only going to take an hour or so. I'll crack on with my FM11 game in the meantime.

Check your 'Library' to make certain it's not downloading in the background. If not, I'd suggest signing out of Steam, signing back in and trying again.

Initial thoughts? I planned on finishing coursework so I could hand it on Monday.... You have now screwed that up for me and I won't be going to university as I'll forget to do all my college work.

Still downloading mind... So could be jumping the gun a bit.

I'm really liking it so far. The new player profile confused me at first, but it's obviously going to be useful to get a good idea of how good a player is with a quick glance. The attributes are smaller, yeah, but are all available on the next page if you can't read it for whatever reason, and the positions picture and all the information on that page will be helpful. The match engine looks decent, nice change of camera angles and I liked the change for the penalties. Never really got a really good sense of how penalties were on the last one, and actually looking forward to a shootout

Once people get used to it I imagine they'll find it more useful. The tactic screen is still easy to use, as is the transfer center. I'm liking it so far

Last 2% and download speed drops to 12kb/s - this sort of thing REALLY puts you off Steam.

Can't get the demo to start. I get a "Error: Undable to find some essensial data". I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the demo, and the cache thing. I have a Intel i7 and some 12 GB of memory. This is why I don't like Steam.

    Love the new goalkeeper animations!

Really still do miss a "Manager camera" though, a fixed camera on the sideline as if watching the game through the manager's eyes.

Easily fixed by contacting Steam support. No need for new account and thereby shouldn't be a drama for new users when the time comes.

TBF that happened with the direct downloads last year. It's called demand and has nothing to do with Steam.

That said, Steam downloading at 847Kbps here so I'd be looking at your PC or router.

Nice job, love the new teamtalk, when I saw it on the videoblog, I was not sure about it, but now I've tested it and it's really good !

Exactly the same for me, I've tried deleting the cache and the entire demo but nothing helps...

What happened to the 4-2-3-1 with AML/AMR? All the 4-2-3-1 formation don't have this anymore.

I'm no good at specs and that stuff but it's a 2.13 ghz dual core 2 gb ram with Vista as OS.

Well so far so good. First time using stream, no problems at all.

    Now to the game:

    The Good Stuff:

Loving team meetings and team talk options
Cant wait to be a Lge 2 or BSP team and using the trial day option
Use the attributes button on team list in helping me pop a couple of u-18 on the bench

    Not so good stuff:

No really liking the font and scren, seems very busy and a lot going on although not checked through preferences yet

I really think that given a week or two will forget all about FM11 and the new navigation will be a breeze.

Finally just wondering what impact you would expect from the game speed if you turn off 'player history after retirement' that comes up if you right click players name then go to interaction.

Many thanks SI, as its my birthday tomorrow i feel this demo is my best present lol.

Try terminating the process (ctrl-alt-delete, click on "processes", look for "fm.exe" and press terminate) and then press play again.

I dunno, but I find it a bit cluttered so far. That could be my 19" TFT screen (1280x1024 resolution), seeing as how FM is meant to adapt now. Plus the attribute polygon, previously useful to get a quick glance at a player's basic strengths and weaknesses is nowhere to be seen until you click the attributes tag. Speaking about screens that are now bloody PACKED with information (player screen, tactics screen), I hope that the community will still be able to do skins with font sizes a little more friendly (bigger) to the eye. The first thing I always did when trying another skin for FM11 was pasting&copying some lines of config tags from a skin called "tiredeyes", and some used bigger fonts than SI's default skins out of the box as they were.

Thinking about FM's audience, which consists of many people older than me, I'm wondering why there have never been requests for "Tired eye" skins anyway. It's ok, but it can still be tiring, especially when you're spending the entire day at the office as is. Playing FM involves reading and scanning for information and text a lot more than just normal web browsing and most office work anyway. You're not reading lines of text, you're scanning the screen for little numbers and buttons almost non-stop.

    Steam sucks.

    1) FM is the only game I play in my laptop so having to install Steam is ridiculous.
    2) It took me almost ten minutes (and I'm not a big noob) to find the button to download the demo.
    3) I won't have the cute icon in the games folder because it's installed via Steam...
    4) I'd like a game where in order to play I just had to click the icon and the game starts. You know, like all previous FMs until now...

You realize people will still illegally download the game. If your Steam strategy doesn't work the most likely result is you have the same amount of sells as last year but you'll have a lot more disappointed customers. Like me.

And I haven't played the demo yet!

I just have a quick question. If you want to remove an injured player from the pitch, where do you do that? I didn't know how so I had to replace my injured striker with my back-up keeper :P

1 - It has a small footprint, how is having it there a problem?
    2 - sorry but how???????
    3 - yes it will
4 - That's all you do. My FM11 is installed via steam. I double click the FM11 icon on my desktop and FM11 opens, it's NO DIFFERENT AT ALL.

Seriously, try it before you whinge!

    FM10 and FM11 uses steamworks.
