Out the Ashes: The Rebirth of Southampton

Recommended Posts

It's a dark day in the history of Southampton FC. The once brilliant team who used to grace the Premier League seasons on end have filed bankrupcy and with debts of £7.2m have closed the doors to the St. Marys Stadium for the final time. All the players had their contracts terminated and all staff have been relieved of their duties.

Out of their ashes, FC United of Southampton are formed. Former Saints legend Matt le Tissier set up the club to give the City of Southampton the beautiful game of Football. They will play at the VisitSouthampton.com Arena which holds 25,000 fans after it being built for Southampton to move into for the 2011 season.

Matt le Tissier has made the decision to employ Alan Pardew as the manager of FC United of Southampton, but with the majority of quality players required to compete in nPower League One and the lack of funds available to the club, Chairman Matt le Tissier has been left with no choice but to scout the country for the best young talent required to compete on all fronts.

FC.TV - JULY UPDATE

09/07 - The first month in the history of FC United of Southampton kicked off with the FA granting the club dispensation to play in the nPower League 1. After a squad of 22 talented youngesters were found, the first big moment for the club was the League Cup 1st Round Draw in which The Saints drew Port Vale, away from home.

12/7 - An international call up also came beckoning to represent Angola U-20's v Ethopia U-20s for Angolan Joao Tchiaka. A fantastic achievement for the club.

14/7 - The first player to fall victim to the injury table was talented youngest Drake Channon who sustained a broken nose after a training ground collision with fellow player Shaz Ali. Channon will be out for 2 weeks.

16/7 - Angola U20's 3-0 Ethopia U20's. Joao Tchiaka put in a debut Man of the Match performance for the Angolan youth side who triumphed over the Ethiopians, despite it being his first professional game. He didn't find the scoresheet but achieved a rating of 8.8 on his debut. A sign of things to come?

17/7 - NEWPORT COUNTY 0-3 FC UNITED OF SOUTHAMPTON

The first game in the history of FC United of Southampton led to a convincing victory over Newport County. A Darren Russell brace to go along with a Tardinho strike gave The Saints a comfortable win over a very lacklustre Newport.

Against a stronger opposition, The Saints came out and proved their worth as they trounced Crewe Alexandra 4-0. A superb hat-trick from striker, King Tikki-Man and a first-minute goal from veteran striker Phill Ewles sealed a very dominant win for The Saints. Tikki-Man has now surely stated his claim for a starting place!

A respectable draw for FC as they took on Championship title-contenders Cardiff City in the welsh capital and came away with a goal-less after a Man of the Match performance from Angolan U20 International, Joao Tchiaka who kept Cardiff at bay. A positive result for a delightful young side. Dave Jones later complimented Pardew on his style and management of the young side.

25/7 - Angola U20's manager Laurent Bonadei has decided to call up Joao Tchiaka to the squad again to yet again face the Ethopian U20 side, could this be international burnout? Or good for the African young starlet?

28/7 - BRISTOL CITY 2-1 FC UNITED OF SOUTHAMPTON

An out-of-sorts performance from FC led to them being defeated 2-1 on a sunny evening at Ashton Gate. The only consolation came at 2-0 down in the 55th minute when striker Darren Russell scored but FC could not capitalise and find a second.

XI - Cooper 7, Neville 6, Tardinho 6, Callaghan 6, Jackson 7, Reynolds 7, Channon 7, Ali 7, Slettebak 8, Kasikirik 6, Russell 7

30/7 The African press could not heap enough praise on Angolan prodigy Joao Tchiaka as he achieved another man of the match performance after Angola U20's beat Ethopia U20's in the second leg 2-0. Joao Tchiaka recieved a rating of 9 and speculation is surrounding the team as to whether he will soon make his bow in the senior side.

So as July ends and we head into August its fair to say it has been a slightly positive start to FCUoS. However, can they take this form into the season and can the first youth international of the squad Joao Tchiaka impress at club level? Find out in the August Update.
