Very impressive winning the league and going straight back up. Will the current squad be competitive in the Norther Premier or will you need to add a lot of new faces?

Well done Nobby on getting the promotion. Hopefully, you'll last longer in the league above than last time

Only way that could have been better is if you relegated Kidsgrove with that game! Great season

Good going Nobby to bounce back at the first attempt.

A season of consolidation is in order.

Just as an aside, can you remember what your wage budget was when you started with Newcastle?

    Thank you all.

I think if Gallagher, Lacey, Rushton and Emilsson can stay fit for (most of) the season we have a bloody good chance of doing well. All four are still quite young, especially the two midfielders (Lacey and Gallagher) so should progress well.

I think my initial wage budget was around £1200 per week but I can't remember for sure. Crowds are bigger now though, hence having a larger budget.

My next session will be tomorrow evening so I'll be able to fill in player of the year and best xi then.

I said I was expecting you to bounce straight back up and i'm glad you didn't disappoint! Let's hope your stay in the Northern Premier is a little longer this time.

Good luck with this. The relegation was unfortunate - that second season syndrome can be a killer - but at least you bounced back up. Not that I'm getting ahead of myself, but it would be fantastic to see a team such as Newcastle Town in the Premiership .

I know that feeling, but pair work with girlfriend. Approaching six seasons complete at the end of February is the slowest pace I have ever played CM/FM.

When you support a small team you roll with the tough times and enjoy the good times even more.

When you support a big team then the good times are expected and the norm.

Unless you support Newcastle United, then anything slightly masquerading as a good time is treated with suspicion and sideways glances until it inevitably blows up in our faces.

Speaking of big and fat... I wonder what the Fat Goalie is up to these days?

Here we go... if Wiki is right he is coaching the Academy goalkeepers at Manchester City.

Wow, he came on for Neville Southall for his only Welsh cap - I guess that must be the fattest substitution of all time! Although Big Nev only really piled it on in his later years didn't he?

Not even The Fat Goalie is as big as William 'Fatty' Foulke, goalkeeper in the 1920s.

2015/6 - Newcastle Town (Northern Premier League Premier Division)
It's where we out do ourselves

    Board: Safe mid table
    Media: 11th
    Bookies: 8-1
    Season tickets: 92 (up 2)

A great start - four wins out of our first five sees only Northwich ahead of us. Come game ten and we are the first team to take points off them this season. The 2-0 home win closes the gap down to four.
Our form continues into Winter but it is tight up top with eight clubs vying for position.
An injury hit holiday period doesn't stop our progress and we're just top heading into the New Year.
But we then start slipping as injuries and a tough schedule which sees us beat two Conference South teams away in the FA Trophy before narrowly being defeated at a Conference Premier team begins to take it's toll.
    And we get edged out.

FA CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND: Leek Town 2 Newcastle Town 0
FA TROPHY THIRD ROUND: Wrexham 1 Newcastle Town 0
NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP THIRD ROUND: Chester 0p Newcastle Town 0
NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE CHAIRMAN'S CUP: Newcastle Town 2 Stocksbridge Park Steels 0 (at Bower Fold, Stalybridge)

    Top rating: Sean McHugh 7.16
Top goalscorer: Liam Rushton 15 in 48 games
Top league goalscorer: Liam Rushton 11 in 39 games

    PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Tough luck missing out on the Playoffs Nobby. But a good season overall. Should set you up nicely as a real promotion contender next season.

Ouch, I see my Stags got relegated.

Thanks Tom. I have no money to strengthen the squad, but I have a solid team anyway given this season's performance. And with Northwich and Altrincham out of the way, in terms of club size only Boston United stand out above the rest now, as the teams coming down are all of similar size to the rest of us in the league.

Yeah, Mansfield went back from whence they came.

Finally for the night... it was only a pre-season friendly but it's always funny when Newcastle Town beat Port Vale... especially when it was 4-0

Bad luck missing out on promotion, but still a good season overall, showing good progress. The period after Xmas always sorts the men out from they boys! Maybe next year?

    Thanks Gio.

Friendly results don't normally bother me in the slightest, but following up the Port Vale thrashing by beating Charlton 2-0 has filled me with confidence for the new season.

Shame about missing out on the playoffs, looks like just a case of a little more strength in depth (and perhaps a tactical loss or two in the cups ).

Strength in depth? Do you think we're made of money?

I could do with going out of the Trophy earlier for sure. Wouldn't mind an FA Cup run though, we've been poor in that so far.

Progress on this save is unfortunately going to slow down over the next few months. On Saturday I will be going skiing (pending booking last minute) and then when I come back and go back to work, we will have started extending and refitting the shop I manage, which is going to lead to many long working days until it is completed in early to mid August.

I'll still play, it just won't be as often. And I don't get to play as often as I would like to now!

I don't know whether you're bothered, but, incase you are, your Skype name is visible on that screen there.

That's a shame about a further reduction in your playing time, but I am certainly jealous of that skiing trip!

2016/7 - Newcastle Town (Northern Premier League Premier Division)
It's where end of season form counts

    Board: Playoffs
    Media: 5th
    Bookies: 14-1
    Season tickets: 95 (up 3)

Start very well and we top the table early doors. We also make some progress in the FA Cup.
Into November and we hump leaders Bradford Park Avenue 5-0 to go back to the top. Things are looking very good.
Then we get hit by injuries again, this time in November and December. We manage to stay in the top three.
Things slip in the New Year as Bradford Park Avenue pull clear, though we cling on.
We improve, though the top two are now too far clear. We are bang on form as we make the playoffs, having won the last four and unbeaten in thirteen.
We dispatch Witton 2-0 at Wincham Park in the semi final, before outplaying AFC Fylde in front of a record crowd at Lyme Valley to again win 2-0.

FA CUP FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND: Wrexham 5 Newcastle Town 0
FA TROPHY THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND: Newcastle Town 1 Guiseley 3
NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP FINAL: Newcastle Town 2 Brigg Town 1 (at Millmoor, Rotherham)

Just got home from golfing and wanted to say good luck in the BSN. I think you can compete with it; it's often got a fairly wide spread of ability top to bottom, since not enough teams exit out the bottom each year, IIRC.

We shall see. Despite doing well the last two seasons, we need to be more potent in front of goal in Conference North.

TEW is along the lines of Football Manager but instead of managing a football club, you either own to manage a wrestling promotion.

TEW is a blast from the past..I used to play that years ago. It was really basic back then and you'd only get the show / event results after organising the card and storylines. What's it like these days?

That sounds decent. Tbh, I thought it was actual wrestling, hence my laugh.

It is a lot more advanced these days and has far more depth... though the results are of similar nature, fairly basic.

If memory serves me correct, all features are fully active and you get one game month of play. Like FM, if you like the game, the save file can be transferred to the full game.

Congrats on the promotion Nobby! Great career so far...what attracted me to it funnily enough was the fact that you got relegated!! I like seeing threads where people aren't just winning everything in site!

Keep up the good work and good luck in the Blue Square North!!

    Thank you chaps.

Yes, I don't quit on a club, especially one I have a great affinity for, just because I've had one bad season. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get cracking on the next season.

Are you a Mansfield supporter? My Grandad played one game for them in the sixties I think, so I always keep an eye on them, though recently it hasn't gone so well....

2017/8 - Newcastle Town (Conference North)
It's where I'm left pinching myself

    Board: Stay clear of relegation
    Media: 17th
    Bookies: 10-1
    Season tickets: 102 (up 7)

A new kit deal is signed worth £4400 per season for four seasons.

We kick off our first ever game at level 6 at Droylsden and come away with a creditable 2-2 draw.
Our first win comes in game four, a 1-0 victory at Kidderminster.
We get into a groove, helped by a fine cup run and push into the playoffs. We even win 2-1 at leaders FC Halifax.
Into the New Year though and our form dips.
We rediscover our form and start shooting back up the table.
A strong run puts us in contention for the sole automatic promotion place but Fleetwood seal it with a game left.

The semi finals see us beat Barrow 2-0 away and 1-0 at home, which sets up a final between the North of Staffordshire and the South.

    Get in! \o/
