I've seen a number of people here asking for difficulty levels and I can't agree more with that!! People will never be satisfied with the difficulty of the game, some will always complain that it's too easy others that it's too hard! Making difficulty a simple issue of choosing a team does not solve the problems that have come up! Personally I find the game way too easy in the long run, because AI managers still treat their teams as how they started - even though many of them are far poorer than they were! So I think it should go something like this:
1. Easy - at this difficulty level AI is only reactionary (it will do things to impede the player but with no other purpose), advice is high, negotiations are easier, the board is more forgiving, etc.
2. Normal - the AI has a clearly set goal in mind (i.e. win the league) and will do its utmost to achieve this, both when dealing with the players and the other AI users, advice is at a medium level and may sometimes be incorrect, negotiations need patience and time - using tricks to get player's attention helps, the board expects that you accomplish its goals by the end of your contract, etc.
3. Hard - the AI is ferociously persuasive of its goals - will play dirty, will come up with tactics to overtake you, will aggressively invest in making his squad better, will sport a huge backroom staff that will scout/consult all the time, advice varies by attributes (i.e. a bad assman will give you bad advice),
negotiations are hard as nails - it takes 2-3 transfer windows to sway a player, prices are huge for top level stars, clubs hold on to their players, etc. - the board expects you to win if you fail to even remotely qualify for what they're asking you'll get sacked without much thought, etc.
Anyway this would imply fixing the AI which also desperately needs improvment. Long term games are pretty much non-feasible: the AI looses so much track by holding on to 30+ year olds, or by not buying players that a team managed by the AI stands no chance against almost ANY team manged by humans. The AI has no purpose other than blocking players from achieving the goals imposed by the board - the latter of which is WAAAAY too forgiving with AI managers- and so on.
Variable reputations for leagues - this has been a long term discussion and I know it's been mentioned here again and again, but I just want to throw my 2 cents in
IMO putting in difficulty levels and improving the AI will fix just about EVERYTHING that's wrong with this game! It's pretty much a perfect package as it is but if these two could just be fixed I could live without variable reputations
