How about giving players instructions as to how selfish you want them to be- take a Heskey-Owen partnership for example, you'd ideally want Owen to be selfish and Heskey to look to create opportunities for his team mates

I think it'd be quite cool if you could see two figures in a suit by the subs, that were you and the opposing manager, sometimes coming out and standing on the touchline and if it is like the actual manager just sitting in the dugout all game like soem do.

I've always wanted that myself. If we get the two guys with the stretcher it shouldn’t be hard to add two managers.

If you wanted to get crazy, put a 4th official there for them to stand next to to give the look of a complaint.

this is all well and good, but how does "has potential knee injury" help us make a decision?

basically, when someone develops an injury during a match, we should be able to access three things:

    1) physio assessment of injury
    2) injury history

    3) how does the player feel? does he want to stay on or not?
    - if he is a flashy foreigner he may want to come off even if there is nothing wrong with him. we could then give him a kick up the rear or whatever. or, it could be a club captain trying to play through pain, and we could be forced to take him off even if he doesnt want to

    team talks

team talks are currently a lottery really, and need to be made more organic. lots of people have mentioned team talks, and i think most of us agree they need to be changed/removed/improved

options such as speech from the captain, private chat with player, etc. generally more options, or let the options we are given be more specific.

In FM it would be great if you could build your team as a global brand by playing friendlies, entering unofficial tournaments, buying great players from foreign countries. For a simple example if you signed Shevchenko, you'd increase your reputation in Ukraine, sell more jerseys, get reputation points and maybe be paid more to play a friendly tour in said country. Similarly, if your reputation in said country is high, you could have youth players coming through from there. This way even when your team is the best, you can still get better.
.. all of this is already a part of the game

An idea which I have already mentioned in a couple of other threads:

I wish that clubs can have the option of sending players who don't have a work permit to clubs that are not feeders, in order to get a work permit. Because this does happen in real life.

Liverpool sent Mark Gonzalez to Real Sociedad to gain a WP, and currently have Sebestian Leto at Olympiakos to do the same. I don't think either of those are Liverpool's feeders.

Man U also sent Manucho to Panathinaikos last season for the same reason, despite already having a Belgian feeder (Antwerp). As far as I know, Panathinaikos aren't Man U's feeder as well.

I’d like to see a game that doesn’t crash when you go into a match.

A game where your players aren’t assumed to be total morons.

A game where it transfers correctly between the match highlights and info screens after you make tactical changes instead of getting stuck on one or the other for evermore.

A game where it doesn’t take hours of guesswork just to get you players to get shots on target.

How anyone can play this in its current state is beyond me.

    A small idea here

Instead of creating managers, it could be fun to take the role of an actual manager. Sometimes I feel reluctant to take on a club that's just hired a new manager, as it would seem somewhat unrealistic, that he would be fired the next day.
The idea of being a well-known manager would also be kind of fun, as there would be guys having you as favourite/least favourite personnel, which could create some interesting scenarios.

Two things I would like to see
    1) The ability to tell a player he goes on loan or he packs his bags. I hate having a young player needing and wanting first team experience refusing a loan I have arranged. I am the boss and I need to be able to enforce my decisions. I recently released a player for refusing loans but to have it part of the game would be great.

    2) The ability to "take team on holiday" I had a 15 day window and an exhausted squad. I wanted to give them all a week away to rest and have fun together (minus the internationals of course)

    - 'Cuts inside' box on the specific player tactic instructions, much like the 'Free role' box.
    - When getting a scout report on a player, have a role for the staff listed in brackets so you know if they are a coach or scout.
    - Continue to advance the 3D match engine with better graphics and better detail than just height, hair colour and skin tone.
    - Also improve tricks on the 3D match engine rather than a player just running past an opponent.
    - Be able to simply control the U18 squad of a team only - I'd love to manage the Arsenal U18s without managing the first team squad.

A contract clause allowing me to freely apply for jobs with either my favourite club or those in a higher division without the threat of being sacked.

An option for valid parent/feeder arrangments only, it can be done as we have a valid takeovers option in 09 preventing tycoon takeovers in Germany.

More flexabilty with work permits, the Home Office just isn't as strict as FM suggests.

The option to comment about a refs general performance to be reintroduced, at present I'm asked about a single decision & that might be the only thing he got right all game, if he gets a 3 rating I want to moan about him & if he gets a 9 or 10 I'd like to praise him.

Bring back the German regional leagues, if SI can give us the CFA leagues in France why not the fourth tier in Germany?

The option to change my season target upwards come January to get more transfer funds if things are going better than anticipated.

    That'll do for now.

Yeah IIRC the comment about the ref thing was in one of the CM's, 00 or 01 I think, was quite a good feature. Also, they had an option to request a postponement, which is good. Glad postponements are back in FM, a good thing to have, especially in the lower leagues.

That reminds me, don't restrict postponements to waterlogged pitches, why should I have to play on frozen pitches in -8 degree conditions & spend the whole match praying my players come though it with only a few ice burns.

This is an idea i have i'm not sure if it have been mentioned before.

The concept i would like too see added is some sort of coaching badge scheme that players can do. So once a season during the off season we have the option to go on a course to do a coaching badge and improve our attrubutes. There could be different options of which area you want to look at, attacking, defencive, tactics, man management. So you would choose what you want to do then you have to mabye watch a passage of play and answer questions on it. Mabye you have to watch some clips and identify the playmaker and if you do it correctly you get so many marks and if you get enough points you pass and your attributes get boosted.

This could mean that the human managers could have attribute profiles like coaches and could be a member of the coaching staff, it would also enable the player to tailor him or herself to how they want them, and attacking master, or a tactical genius.

It wouldnt be a major addition but it would add somthing to the game that i would enjoy.

    What are you thoughts?

    - On the tactics screen for attacking free-kicks, have an option under left and right to shoot. (How obvious is that!?!?!).

Adding to this I'd like a section for listing players that I never want to see taking corners & freekicks. The present system doesn't rotate the listed takers enough to make it a usable option so time after time I end up seeing AI selected players doing nothing witrh the dead ball.

A few of these may of been mentioned before. Also a lot of this will relate to the lower leagues.

A liitle negotiation with the board, example coaches if I want 50 damn coaches and I'm under wage budget then don't limit me to 2 only! Also there does not seem to be common sense re player/coaches - I tried to sign a veteran player to be a player/coach and it was blocked, for more money he signed as just a player.............makes no sense?!?!

The press I know they are the bane of some peoples lives but I would like to see this developed more, it is a struggle for lower league clubs to raise local press interest but a good cup run should bring much more interest (some of the questions are mad as has been discussed before)

Player interaction, I should be able to chat to players about various issues - on the training ground or in my office. Players should come to you for a talk about various things - these are mostly kids/young men who know little about life and the manager is a father figure.

Fan interation - every club has a fans forum and we should be ble to check out what they think (if we want too)

Managers development - maybe a short questionaire at the start of the game to show a bit more of your own personality into the game. I also thing the idea of spending your money has merit, not the sims and nothing wonderful just something different to aim for.

When winning - give us SOMETHING!?!?!? I dunno a picture of the cup we have just won or scene of fans celebrating or something to give us a glow of self approval.

Training - more of an overview eg AM takes care of the details you just say improve the teams X or players Y

Some sort of interview for jobs rather than yes or no!

Ability to set staff as MY favourites

Loan backs, player ultimatums, moan at refs etc etc

A 'Quick' game option a few short challenges you can play for a couple of hours rather than epic saves.

None of these are vital to the game but this is a 'wish' list of add ons - not for everyone and some people won't like any of them!

Default Some features I would like for FM10

Just a few things I would like to see in a future FM:

    A few of my ideas:

    1) Flexible additional rivalries (if you take a club up a few divisions it picks up other local clubs as 'rivals' if they play regularly enough to build up a rivalry). For instance, I regularly play with St. Albans City and if I managed to get them in the same division as Luton Town and played this 'local derby' enough to build up a rivalry, it would be nice to see this featured in the game.

    2) More than one club favourite for managers (say, up to 5?) This would enable a manager to specify clubs in other countries, for instance, which may have an impact upon his career.

    3) Ability to add favourite clubs and favourite players after a certain time has passed in charge of that club or player. More interest for long-term games. If you've spent 15 years managing a team and they have found a place in your heart, you should be able to say so in the game. Furthermore, it would be great to be able to add favourite players so that perhaps if you jump ship they are more likely to join you at your new club.

    4) An 'ideal job' alert system. Simple idea this and could be used in conjunction with the favourite clubs option. You make a list of clubs or national teams that you would love to manage in your save. These are your dream jobs. Everytime the position becomes available, or when the current manager's position is in question, you will get a reminder. No longer will your favourite job escape you because you forgot to look at the job screen every week.

    5) The ability to tell your scout to just keep scouting England, for instance, without him coming back and saying 'I'm finished' all of the time. Right now you have to scroll through his assignments and click for him to continue.

    6) Add all highly recommended players to my current shortlist: linked to the above, I would really like the ability to add all of my scout's highly recommended players to my current shortlist easily and without having to look at the reports and then select the ones that I want.

    7) This is one of my biggest wishes ever - the ability to test new tactics out at a training match between, say, your reserves/youth and your first team. Right now, the only way to test tactics is to do it in a game and that can often result in a barren spell while you perfect your new system.

    Any thoughts or additions?

    C.

I would like to add the ability to provide your staff and even the manager opportunity to go to training courses. E.g. you allow a coach to take 2 weeks leave to get a coaching license which then improves his skills. The manager can also take courses to improve non-tevhnical attributes like man management and motivation for example.

This would be quite realistic. Cambridge United and Histon are a good example. A few years ago, Cambridge were a Football League club and Histon were a tiny village team way down the English system. However, Cambridge have dropped to the Blue Square Premier and Histon have climbed to the same league, and there is now quite a strong rivalry between them that wasn't there before. It does happen.

    2) More than one club favourite for managers (say, up to 5?) This would enable a manager to specify clubs in other countries, for instance, which may have an impact upon his career.

This is an option I would take if it was there. I think you're right to suggest a restriction, although you'd need to be careful you didn't fill your quota in the first six months!

Seems like an extension of the previous suggestion, but it's another one I like.

Another good idea! However, I think there would need to be a filter in place so that you were alerted specifically to jobs you had a realistic chance of getting. No point being alerted about the availability of the Inter job if you're managing Newport County.

    5) The ability to tell your scout to just keep scouting England, for instance, without him coming back and saying 'I'm finished' all of the time. Right now you have to scroll through his assignments and click for him to continue.

[i]To be honest, I don't know why this isn't there in the first place![/i

    6) Add all highly recommended players to my current shortlist: linked to the above, I would really like the ability to add all of my scout's highly recommended players to my current shortlist easily and without having to look at the reports and then select the ones that I want.

I probably wouldn't do this, personally. However, I'm sure it could be useful and I'm not opposed to seeing it in the game.

    7) This is one of my biggest wishes ever - the ability to test new tactics out at a training match between, say, your reserves/youth and your first team. Right now, the only way to test tactics is to do it in a game and that can often result in a barren spell while you perfect your new system.

I'm a bit uneasy about making training any more complicated. I already find it hard to tell exactly what effects my schedules have. But that doesn't mean I think you have a bad idea here. If implemented properly, it would probably have people raving about it. That's a pretty big "if", though.

Good post, crouchaldinho! Well thought out and some decent ideas. Thank you for not going all FIFA Manager on us!

Im pretty sure you can have a practise match between your senior line up and your reserves line up . I did that in my gamewith Watford , Man United cancelled a pre-season friendly and i would have gone 18 days without a match before the proper season kicked off . So i went to the arrange friendly screen to try to find an opponent and i noticed i could choose to have a match between my seniors and reserves . It wasnt so much to try new tactics but to give my players another match to retain fitness so they didnt go into their 1st match underdone . The reserves coach took charge of the reserves and i tryed to even up the squads so that half of the seniors played in the seniors and the other half played in the reserves , so that the majority of my good players got match practice .

    Some simple ones:

    1) Minor Expansion of Scout and Coach Reports:
It should be possible to see the scout's assessment on Consistency, Important Matches and Adaptability all at the same time. Right now, you can only see Important Matches if the player is not too consistent, and Adaptability if the player is neither too consistent nor great at Important Matches. I see no point in this, let us see the whole truth.

    2) Expand Reports on Loaned Out Players:
How come I can get a detailed scout report on a player playing for some other team, but I cannot get one for my own player who is loaned out? I need a detailed report on my loaned out players too! Mere match reports don't cut it. Detailed reports will help me follow their Current Ability development and also how their Consistency develops (this is information that detailed reports already give).

    3) Minor (but useful) Enhancements to Set Pieces:

    - Free kicks: Ability to have a specific player taking the free kick when shooting direct, but a different one when about to cross. This would be extremely helpful, because some players are better at shooting while others are better at crossing (\stating the obvious).

    - Corners: Ability to position players in a different way when the corner kick is on the right than when it is on the left. This would be extremely helpful when our corner taker is one-footed.

    4) Target Man Supply:
Ability to choose two ways of supplying the target man. Right now we can choose "run onto ball" or "to feet" or "to head". I would like to have the option to choose "either to feet or run onto ball" or "either to feet or to head" etc. I understand that this is a major change for the match engine.

It would be nice to have a option to pay back a loan that a club has taken out

In terms of Match Engine, pick up the one of FM07 and improve it.

In terms of design you need to clean up bit the clatter and don't leave things in completed and don't do thing like logos showing instead of kits as permanent but you intended as an intended temporary solution.

    Drop setting up match.

    Improve the 3D.

    Make it fun again.

    Manager's Earnings

I'd really like to be able to buy a club if I'd accumulated enough money so I could be the chairman and the manager at the same time, ie. Barry Fry at Posh. Obviously you'd probably only be able to afford a small club but you could have much more control over expanding the ground, improving facilities and wage/transfer budgets etc. It's something you could aim for after several seasons in the game that I think would be quite exciting.

    Goalkeeper Attributes

I'd like a few different GK attributes such as 'Pushing to Safety' for when the keeper makes a save and pushes the ball out of harms way instead of straight to oncoming striker, 'Getting Off the Floor' in a similar vain and one or two others that I thought of the other night but can't for life of me remember now!

Love the idea of being able to go on coaching courses to get Attacking/Technical/Tactics attributes for a manger too

Have the choice to Change the strips & have a choice if you want a 3rd choice because some teams on FM don't have that option although they probably have a 3rd choice kit

i would like to see a personal tactic instruction option underneath the player's profile to stop having to mess about with player tactics when you play someone else in that position

    for example:

say if walcott is unavailable to play on the right wing for england and you choose to play gerrard there instead. As they are two different types of player then they will obviously need different player instructions to suit their game. if there was an option to set up player tactics for each individual player it would save alot of time in the game

Nerf team talks, they're WAY too important :/ Motivation is good, yeah, but it shouldn't have such a great effect. And saying whatever at time break is not really supposed to make the team play 10x better like it sometimes does now.

I am in a long-term game with a Medium database and one thing I think is still far from being fixed are the regens... Though they have significantly improved, there is still a bug with their 'One Foot Only' issue, but I am also disappointed about the implimentation of youth set-ups... I gradually managed to raise my club from Basic training facilities and youth academy to 'Top training facilities' and 'State of the Art Youth Facilities + Academy', yet I did not see a significant improvement in the home-grown regens I receive. The biggest problem is also when clicking through national team squads 8 years on in the game...

I would expect that even with 4 leagues loaded and a 'Medium' database, national teams would have strong squads with reasonably predictable clubs representing the national team players. Instead, I see a Germany with few players, most of them very very poor even for Germany at its worst, and not many of the players were produced from German clubs with the Top Youth Facilities. However, as I had 'Load All Players From' I had Romania, and Romanian players 8 years in the game (without Romanian League loaded) are the best players in the world, with my first-team composed of 6 Romanian regens, as well as those of top level clubs.

What I am proposing is, that a code is inserted that always has a minimum of x amount of regens per nationality with minimum CA/PA, and many who would develop from German clubs with the best facilities/youth academies in the country. Thus, keep national team squads balanced with the CA/PA of original database +/- 20% but not having whole national teams and leagues destroyed because I did not want to Load All their Players or that country's League.

So, if I am one of only 2 Greek clubs in the whole country with State of the Art Youth Facilities + Academy, I should hope to produce players capable of playing for the Greek national team and having CA/PA quite close to original database squad (Ie. if lowest CA of player on national team is 160 in 2008, it shouldn't be 10/12 players only with very low CA's)

Perhaps a code can be added for many clubs that have long-time tradition of producing good youngsters or specific players such as goalkeepers: Ex: Iraklis has history of producing goalkeepers that play for national team. Panathinaikos have tradition of producing best youngsters in Greece. Chairman x is known to have business interests in Ghana and often brings young Ghanaians on trial for his manager (This is the case of former Kalamata chairman and current Apollon Kalamarias chairman in Greece)

Also, these reputations could be expanded to nations:
Greece has tradition of having strong, tall centre-backs.
Italy has tradition of producing amazing defenders.
Spain has tradition of producing fast, short, skillful wingers.

A little bit of predictability with details such as the above would help maintain some consistency in long-term games, and if AI managers were not so rubbish at never doing transfers, buying back-up players and young players (<=== THE BIGGEST Problem in FM09!) then FM10 could prove to be promising.

Also, I feel that the human user is blocked from developing a player's full PA. If a player was to stay at an AI club, he would reach his maximum PA comfortably, but a human user, no matter the facilities, coaches, schedule, playing time, seem to be unable to recerate such success in fulfilling player potential.

Furthermore, I really like the 'Personality' description or 'Media Label' for players, and think these should be updated and expanded. Have even a short sentence on a player's development: Tireless defensive midfielder. Does his work on the pitch efficiently, with little fuss, however does seem to be injury prone. Or: Pacey goalscorer. This very fast attacker enjoys running with the ball, and his sheer flashy unpredictability has made him a fan favourite.

Also, it is clear despite several attempts, SI's improvement of the media interaction has been negligible, introdcuing features that at best, become predictable very fast or at worst, are bugs that impact your team in many ways (Board Confidence 2 times in a row).. I do understand that it is hard to impliment an intuitive and interactive media interaction features in the game, but rather than concentrate on that, SI should really fix games for long-term playability (such as what I have written above about regens) and .how existing information within the game is presented to the user:

For example, I buy a young Brazilian central defender for a medium-sized Greek A League. A media page with newspaper article judging his first month/2 months/half season/season at the club, by reporters, by fans and by football experts. Fans can be divided on a player, can be patient if he is foreign/young/didn't cost a lot of money etc. Gallop results from popular soccer websites with feedback from fans stating 'Was Manager x right to substitute Leto so early?' 'Do you think manager x's substitutions in the match against Reggina were correct?' 63% said yes, 25% said no, 12% said Unsure/Undecided.

Also, addition of articles with player interviews and upcoming hot stars, top performers etc.:
_Example: Magazine article listing 'Top 10 Winter Transfer Signings of Premiership' or at end of season 'Top 10 Defenders in Serie A' or 'Recap of Manager x's Transfer Choices' or a World Soccer-esque 'Top 50 Players in Europe Under-20' or 'Top 100 World Soccer Stars'

Player interviews can provide an insight on social life at club, and they don't have to necessitate controversy:
    Example:
'I am enjoying my time at Olympiacos and I really like Greece, it is very similar to back home in Argentina. The manager makes us train hard but I think it is fair at this point given our fitness condition.'

'I am very happy to have joined Olympiacos and pleased that I have a fellow Brazilian team-mate who can show me around this new country, and with whom I have played against back home in Brazil. I know I haven't been getting regular first-team football this season, but I had an unlucky injury, and excited about this opportunity.'

'Q: how have you found your first 3 months in athens?
    A: great, i like to go out with team-mate a and team-mate b a lot.

"I find our team's fans incredible, playing in front of them is a great sensation."
"I feel that the previous coach let me down as he never gave me the opportunity to play regular football. I would play one game, play well, and then remain on the bench for long periods at a time. I am happy with new manager y and pleased he is at the club.

Or you could have a former player come out 5-6 years after you worked with him and say:

"I definitely have to credit my manager at Olympiacos, Ernesto Valverde, who gave me the chance to play first-team football at such a young age and gave me the opportunity to play in the Champions League. He, as well as coach x from back home and coach z from another former club have helped me progress a lot as a player.

    "Start in the future" feature.

So I could pick up FM10, and tell it to quickly simulate 50 seasons ahead to give me a totally random starting point with some degree of realism.

Rather than going on holiday for 50 seasons, you see.

It would sure beat starting a game and going after the same players and noticing the same old sort of transfers and results. It would be a lot better than unchecking the real names, as this new feature would randomise the entire database in a predictable way.

obviously a small improvement on the 3D match engine (but i think it's good anyway)

also a lot of recent posts have asked for team overseas academies and i think this is a great idea. these academies pick up players from the country they are set up in and have quality ratings in their own right, E.G. scouting ratings and ratings on how they nurture the players. these academies should be able to be set up in any number but cost a set amount depending on the level of coaching staff, the country it is in and the size of the academy, for example a team like man united could set up an academy in brazil to bring in a steady flow of talent from south america.
also youth prospects picked up from other countries where a team has a youth academy should be able to be sent there for a couple of years to grow and develop.

    Caretaker Manager

Sometime when im unemployed I would like to save a club from relegation without having to resign at the end of the season.

If you do a good job you could then end up getting offered the job or be offered the job while they look for a new manager e.g. joe kinnear

I think there should be some sort of Stadium Editor.
    Like in LMA Manager.
That would be great, as you could choose where you want to re-develop and choose what you want the new stands/stadium to look like it would be great.

The choice of what kit you play in aswell.

I like the taking a coaching course idead to get better atributes for Attackin/Defending etc etc
That would mean you have all the stats like the res of the managers.

And a youth school system sounds great.

I think we should have a TROPHY CABINET. For our career we should have a page where we can look at replica trophies that we have won down the years, with a little bit of information about winning it next to it.
Also finances need to be looked at better, possibly focasting revenue for the season and limits on add on fees on contracts as my teams have ended up in debt in the past despite me staying under the wage budget.

A players favourite tactic and role, and have time to re adjust to, and possibly players response to magor changes/new tactics&formation. Also, and this is mostly coz i'm doing well in real life, a Sun Dream Team or league equivalent, where you can chose who you think will be the stars of that seasons league. Also, some way of me (the manager) and my attributes having some influence on players development (attack, defence, fitness etc). Apart from that great, great game

I would like to see more emphasis on the media unsettling a player over a possible, or "rumoured" transfer....rather than the current 'wnt' sign that hangs over every player worth their salt, promptly unsettling said player, causing them to refuse a new contract and to inevitably leave the club.

Probably a radicle suggestion, seeing as the 'wnt' sign has been there throughout. My reasoning is that I like to sign good players, as I'm sure do most people that play FM. However, it becomes quite frustrating when every season I'll have at least 6 first teamers wanted by random clubs. I'll always sell the players in question because they want to move to a bigger club and end up unhappy....but my annoyance is that I'm ranked 29th best club in Europe and always compete in the Champions League, and my players still leave for clubs like VFL Bochum and Ankaracu in Turkey...who compete in the UEFA cup at best. Bochum are ranked 169th in Europe!

I think that in real life players don't usually know which clubs might be interested in them, other than paper talk, so it would be nice to increase the emphasis on rumours and media coverage regarding possible transfers, and to also increase the player interactions revolving around the possible rumoured transfers.

Players leaving for bigger clubs should be more realistic too.

*Buying feeder clubs and taking total control over them.
    -Assigning their manager
-Adjusting their wage and transfer budget from the parent clubs budget.
-Even obligating them to use your tactics and players.

Some find FM09 too difficult and others find it very playable.
(Personally I find it very playable. The problem is that I keep on winning, but I did read through the tactical guides.)

SI will have to find a way to satisfy both the people who want more simple, straightforward game 'right-from-the-box' and those who want a more in-depth, more realistic football game.

As was mentioned before Civilization seems to have been able to help solve the problem by having difficulty levels.

FM could use that or it could have more options. These would turn on/off different aspects of the game that you want to play.

Perhaps someone doesn't want to bother with crossing. There could be an option where Crossing would be turned off and the AI would take care of it. Those who want a more in-depth game could have the Crossing option left on and he would take care of it himself, as is done currently in FM09. (Any situations where you ask your Assistant Manager for advice would still always be there. That would not be removed in any option where you decide to do things yourself.)

There are many other option possibilities (e.g. running with ball, through balls etc.) and even mentality, passing style etc. could have on/off options.

In this way the more casual players would be satisfied while the more 'hard-core' would also be happy.

i think i have a good idea, bear with me though.

how about a drop-down box on the add manager that lets you choose the "involvement level"

    i.e.
"little" - in charge of tactics, training, transfers etc but not in-depth. (no press conferences etc)
"medium" - as the game is now
"complete" - ability to: choose size of new stadiums. adjust ticket prices, set seasonal transfer/wage budget,

and maybe add a note saying "for a more realistic managerial experience, then choose medium."

I think that the club should show criteria for building a new stadium (ie. what your average attendance has to be, how much money in the bank, etc.) I'm very frustrated with my inability to expand my current stadium after 7 years of near maximum attendance and over 100 million pounds in the bank. A little more communication from the board would be nice.

Dunno if this has been mentioned, I really don't feel like reading through 39 pages, but for places like Berwick, which is really close to a border of another country(in this case Scotland) maybe the regen engine needs to take geography into account. When it gives me English regens, it obiously already does this, with the majority of regens coming from Berwick and the rest of Northumberland, but when it comes to Scottish regens the guys you get seem to come from random places. For instance while Coldstream is closer to Berwick than Newcastle, you're more likely to get someone from say Glasgow or Aberdeen.

Not an important thing, really, but it's worth looking into, I reckon, especially for places say like Belgium and Holland. Maybe the game can do a quick scan of the town DB to check what towns etc. in other countries are in like a 30-60 mile radius of a place when making regens, rather than just for towns in that nation.

I don't know if it was mentioned before but I believe that the idea of having levels of difficulty can be implemented into the game. It can be done fairly easy via the amount of input, or the accuracy of the input, the human player can have from the coaching staff. Suppose a player with little or no knowledge of soccer were to play the game, the natural choice for such a player would be one of the top teams in the league. The top teams usually have an excellent coaching staff, experienced and versatile players, excellent training facilities. Thus, with very little input from the human manager, a top team should be able to have a good season. This means that an inexperienced human player could choose to have the assistant manager and coaching staff give large amounts of accurate information, such as: best formation given the current squad, best tactics for each player, best training schedule, best transfers and so on. The human player can choose to follow the advice or not and thus still having to manage the team in a way. But even with all the advice from the AI this would not result in automatic victories. The reason is simple, not even Mourinho wins all the time, meaning that even the best assistant manager can have his off day.
On the opposite side of the spectrum an experienced human player ca choose a realistic input from the assistant manager, or choose to manage a team with little money and weaker coaching staff, thus the human player will have to make all the decisions unassisted. By varying the amount of input, or/and accuracy, the coaching staff has, different levels of difficulty can be achieved in the game. Even in FM2009 the coaching staff is still underused, it gives the impression that the manager is some sort of dictator, which I'm sure is not the case in real life. Also, when things go wrong it is unclear why.

Another thing that I would like to see in the game is more pressure from the fans and club management. At this time in the game the human manager can come in and sell the top players from the club without much interference from anybody. I think this could be a very good addition to the game, it would be easier to achieve results with a top team but with a penalty, fans become attached to the star players and the human manager will be somewhat limited when choosing the first team and transfers.

However the most annoying thing is the limited amount of information the human player gets from the game. For example with one click of the mouse I should be able to get info on the pitch the game is played on, info such as size and condition. In FM2009 I have no clue on the condition of the pitch, if it suited to a fast game or maybe the pitch is in bad condition and I have to play a more direct game.

And lastly, games against weaker teams should be revised, training really should be improved and sliders must go.

Well in my opionion there are somethings that i would include:
    1) Manager's playing career, like the players e.g. 1988/1989: Arsenal, but also have international record and any competions won
    2) Have foreign training camps i.e AC Milan in Dubai, or Poland in Portugal
    3) More friendly tournements i.e Railway Cup in Russia
4)Youth Accademies in foreign countries,so more regens from different counties, so you can handpick them yourself
5)Loaning players who have not got a work perit, to clubs which are not your feeders i.e Manucho to Panithanikos Athens

Possible to implement the option to change back-ground leagues to active leagues?

Fixtures need a huge revamp. I'm playing as United and for a start the world club cup was played a week earlier than in real life which meant that my champions league group game got moved forward a week (fine), my league cup 5th round got moved back a week (fine) which then made my premier league fixture replayed at every weekend that there was an fa cup fixture and the re-arranged again as soon as I made the next round of the FA Cup.

Now this is irritating in itself but in my current season, that being the 4th, I've had 2 fixtures re-arranged from the start of the season constantly, Arsenal and Liverpool away. So instead of playing these at the end of august and middle of december as originally planned, I am now at the end of March without playing either of them! Which basically means that as seems to happen every season I have to play these ones plus the home fixtures plus chelsea away plus man city away (my hardest fixtures) all within the same month and in amongst the champions league latter stages.

So.... my suggestion is that we get to choose when we re-arrange our re-arranged fixtures (as clubs do in real life). I've had so many opportunities to play these games earlier but the game seems intent on putting them altogether at the end of the season. One of my re-arrnaged fixtures against arsenal happened during the african cup of nations and was cancelled the day before because of international call-ups... even though arsenal played all their other games just fine!!! Conspiracy i tell u!

Don't get me started on the absolutely unnecessary referee mistakes: 'they feel that should have been a penalty!!'.
What's the point of that when you have no way of knowing if it's true or not? I'm supposed to know that one stick figure fouled another stick figure in the box? Please get rid of that!

I would like to see more indepth international management. For example, your assistant should be able to advise "inform" players for squad selection - think Carlton Cole. This should only be restricted to the top flight league in the country for obvious reasons - a League 2 striker in the England Squad?!
Also I would like to see more player interaction - "Player X needs to up his game if he wants to be selected" or "Player Y's recent form will be rewarded with a call-up."
This has also been suggested, but I will say it again - club managers suggesting their players for a call up - again only suitable for top-flight teams

Some great ideas in here btw

I've always wanted to see more African Leagues in FM. How about Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana etc, etc ? There are 50-odd countries in Africa, and so far only South Africa as a playable league. While I appreciate there may be little interest in leagues from countries like Botswana and Mauritius, surely some of the major leagues could be included - then we could have the African Champions League, and the chance to take the likes of Al Ahly or Etoile Sahel to the top of their continental tree.
I also look forward to the return of the Japanese League, and perhaps leagues like Thailand.
Probably won't happen, but it would be nice.

I'd like the assistant to be to recommend a formation for your players to play, which uses them best.

Just like the team report it at the moment, but with a tick box saying " show recommended formation"

when making a board request, e.g. upgrade training facilities, the board will decide whether they want to do it.
What i want to add is that if the board agreed, then they should tell the manager the approximate cost and duration about the upgrade, then asked the manager whether he wants to do it.

More realistic AI managers? I'll give an example. One of my friends poached a wonderkid from another club in the same division for some pittance of compensation (I think he said 1.5 Million £) in the first season. No reaction from the AI manager and no "has a low opinion of you" on the manager's profile page.

Shouldn't he be angrier than that given that his player was valued at 9 or 10ish million £ and left for not even 25% of that? Maybe the press could ask him about it at the next press conference and he could call you a few names and storm out?

player relationships?? whereby player A and player b are good friends but in different teams, player A can influence the player b to come over the same team.
I think there's quite a number of cases in real life.

I would like to be able to state my ambitions to a player when negotiating contracts to try and persuade them to join my club. For example, you might have a player who has the ability to play at a higher level, and wouldn't ordinarily want to come to your club, but if you were to say that you intend to be playing at that level next season, they're more willing to join you. There could be a drop-down on the contract negotiations screen that says what you intend to do in the coming season, like "get promoted to league x", or "qualify for european competition".

However if it starts looking like you're not going to fulfill that ambition then they could start becoming more and more unsettled and ask to be transfer-listed.

I'd like to see more manager-specific stats, for example:
the option to see head-to-head comparison with managers like you can get with clubs. What's my head-to-head record against Man Utd in the Mourinho era, for instance? Or what's my all-time head-to-head with Mourinho himself?
also, the records for the club during a managerial era.
Also, I've got a bit of a home unbeaten streak going, and I'd like to be able to follow that.

Dunno if its been mentioned, But I would like players to be able to approach you directly.
Instead of always via the media!

Instead of the "Rooney demands new contract" and you get to respond via the papers - keep that option, but allow them to also do it other ways...
i.e. Wayne Rooney has come to your office to ask about the possibilities of getting an improved contract.
Its a lot more professional and more realistic. Maybe if he gets denied he will then go to media? Or maybe it could be dependant on a personality trait like professionalism or something

It just seems wierd that all communication that you get from you players is via from the media. No Man U player IRL has the balls to speak out against ferguson - And are often sold if they do (Ruud vN, Becks ect) Or look at the Arsenal/Gallas situation... And players who go directly to the media often get delt with! - I always slam my players that go public in my games...

But you could also extend it to other things. ie Rooney would like to know his chances of playing in the next match against his old club everton, Or more game time or loads of other options... But allow some actual player interaction.

An add on to the acadamy thing... In there acadamy you can have players 14 and under. These players would be the future future and would allow clubs to create a little Messi from Somalia. Also, it would allow the intoduction of high profile 12 year olds such as Zidane's kid and stuff like that...

I have a couple of additions i'd like to see in future FM games.

Firstly I'd like to be able to scout players in all of their positions(much like the option in the coach reports) also I'd like to see the scout compare potential new signings against the player that you intend them to replace rather than just the best player in that position.
I'd also like to see the introduction of some more clauses when buying players such as leaving a player at his old club on loan.

Great Idea, not sure why it hasn't been implemented before

A couple of my own ideas:

    - Building on whats been said before about visible managers, you can choose what kind of manager you are in terms of clothing - for example are you a suit-wearing kinda guy or prefer the tracksuit?
    - Also, I've said this before, but I'll post it here too, why not have an optional box to tick at the beginning of the game (like 'start with real players' and 'use key staff' and 'enable attribute masking') to take out attributes altogether? IMO it would be more realisitic as IRL managers don't have sheets in front of them with attributes on them. Players would then have to use their footballing knowledge more, their scouts more, and watch these players play, which is more realistic

I know this would not float everyone's boat, hence it is an optional box to tick

Instead of accruing knowledge of countries that can often seem random and inexplicable, we need something that explains where our knowledge has come from so that we don't have to work it out for ourselves. Apparently, there is something that tells you the source of knowledge you have, but in another thread, someone posted about how they were told the source of their knowledge of St. Lucia, but they didn't see what connected them to that person. We need something that provides proper explanations.

Knowledge - This could be done depening on what leagues you have loaded and how may times you visit the league table of a certain country and how many players you click on in that country. The more frequently you do it the better the knowledge you get.

Scout reports - vairy the preset language they use it's all the same. Also if I want to buy comeone who can play anywhere in midfield the scout shouldn't report them playing right mid if i want to play him left mid.

Team styles - The game should have plays built in for specific clubs: short quick passing for arsenal, fast counter attacking play for Manchester United. These would be very hard to play against and would have to resmble exactly how they play in real life so at least we recognise the teams on the pitch. There could be loads of other ones built in up for grabs so you could practice in training and after a long time the players would perfect it and use it in a match.

Training - Be able to set day to day training and what happens. This could be done using a timetable.

Be able to force players to stay behind after training to work on new moves

Be able to set training times and when players arrive

Intensive training for a season or 2 with an average player should make him a lot better, and potentially world class or quite near to.

Manager - As a manager be able to have all the attack, defence, keeper coaching stats that other coaches have. We should start low and be able to take courses to improve them.

Board room - monthy meetings with the board and be able to ask them to take out a loan to match your ambitions but this would put more pressure on you. This would be easier than waiting for a tycoon.

    Have an unsackable option

Assistant feedback - all of this means nothing and there is too much to make it useful. In real life assistants don't give you the same info match after match. Also if i'm playing short passes then my assistant tells me we are playing too many long balls...

Fun - Make there more things to do apart from playing matches and singing players eg stadium design, kit design, pick a sponsor ( a real one or at least a fake one which could be easilly editable), work on tactics during training and see progression.

3d match - make the players "softer" and easier on the eye.

-make every ball that could be played in real life playable on the pitch
-be able to grow the grass long or short (to suit playing style) or long in the corners to hold up the ball for wingers

Make every club different to manage. At the moment it's all the same. In real life different clubs have different cultures eg Manchester United used to have a drinking culture and this changed when Ferguson came. In a foreign league some words like "squad" and "tactics" could be in the language of the country you're maning in, making it more realistic.

we should be able to offer players short term contracts instead of 1year deals

why not have the england C squad in the game
    http://www.thefa.com/England/NationalGameXI/
its a major ambition of non league playersto play in the england C squad

clubs secertary will ask the manager if he wants to book the team intpo a hotel for long journey
maybe we could use it in game and it could affect the results and players fitness levels

I am currently managing Mexico and because there are large spaces between games I always go and holiday and return on 'next squad selection'.

As most of you know, you sometimes get offered jobs as a club manager whilst only managing a nation but I am not allowed to select 'Return from holiday when offered a job' without selecting 'Apply for managerial positions at:' but I don't want to appy for jobs, I will only take a job if it is offered to me. So do you think the 'Return from holiday when offered a job' option should be unlocked so it can be selected without selecting the 'Apply for managerial positions at:' option first?

I would like to see newspapers! This is like the transfer roumers screen but you can pick up a selection of different papers and catch up with the headlines, instead of the current method of viewing headlines. IMO it is boring.

I would llike to see the press conferences having greater affect on the game, when i bought the game from the shop, i read the back of the case and the main feature was the 3D match engine underneath it it mentioned press conferences, i thought, wow, this coulld be interesting. All the press conferences do is afffect players morale and may give you a psychological advantage over the opposition manager.

You think that by storming out you might make massive headlines, instead there is some crappy article in your inbox noting that you were not happy with journalists questions.

If mourinho or capello or furguson, benitez or any high profile manager stormed out in a huff, you think they would make the sport headlines in every paper?

These are opinions of mine that many people will disagree with, this is my view, feel free to argue against my case

This. I really like the press conferences feature, but it is time to open up the answers to a little more colour.

Hell, sometimes the questions are asked in such a convoluted fashion, you're not sure what statement you are agreeing/disagreeing to.

A small thought, sometimes between matches i go on holiday to speed the game up and on this version if i set to return for next match my ass man does the press conference for me and messes it up causing a bad performance on some occasions therefore is there anyway of having an option to return before press conference, maybe if the best way to do this is to change return for next match to return the day before next match, incase there is a press conference, thanks.

oh and another, i have noticed if i put my second team out for a cup game my first team get a bit annoyed and dont play so well next match, if i have to interact with a player telling him im going to rest him it takes a long time and the shortest option is a week not just next match, i could have 2 matches in 1 week and only want to rest them for one, maybe introducing a mass interaction of some sort informing that fringe players are getting a chance for the cup match or along those lines?

    Thanks

On my current FM save, I have just got to the FA Cup 3rd Round with a Blue Square South side (for the first time in my whole FM playing career, I might add). I got drawn against Everton away.

Now, surely, this is something akin to winning a trophy? I mean, the glory, putting the club on the map, the money!

I wanted to feel the media interest, sense the buzz around the city of St. Albans and hear all about how my players are being sponsored by some sleazy tabloid.

I wanted to have a report on how our supporters enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) the occasion after the game.

In short, I wanted a bit of build up and reaction.

I guess this is just as relevant for top sides when their club does something out of the ordinary, whether that be in the FA Cup or the Champions League.

I think it would be great if the spotlight fell on you a little more. Perhaps add a bit more of a context to such a special occasion.

One thing I think would be good would be better interaction with the Chairman/Director. I watched the Barcelona documentary last night on Joan Laporta and was surprised how much time he spent with Frank Riijkaard (03/04 season). It was a good insight into the background of a club and wonder if it could be incorporated into the game.

I have a great idea - get rid of the press conferences, get rid of them, they are terrible.
