I LOVE THE GAME!!!!!!!
What's a son?
When a mummy and a daddy love each other very much, they...
It's a small feature in FM that you might have a player with your surname come through the youth academy with you as his favoured personnel. So in the reality of the game, it's treated as your character's "son".
I've never even got far enough in a game to even think about having a son![]()
Surely this thread is a bit early. The game isn't out for 2 weeks.
People will start asking questions![]()
I really hope so! I never got one in FM2010! And i had 3 fairly long games where it was possible to have a son.. But never got one!
The chances for this are about the same as before, nothing has been drastically altered with that bit of code![]()
Fingers crossed this is the version I finally get one.
And I thought Heung-Min Son would be famous already.
I had 2 saves in FM2010 that went past 2040 and didn't get one in either. Luck of the draw.
10,000 to 1 really?!?! Hardly worth all this fuss then
Mind those odds certainly don't mean for every 10,000 youth intakes you have 1 son...but I already very lucky to have 1 son in FM (in FM09) so anything more is a bonus.![]()
It all good having a son but they never are any good from the ones i've seen on here.
I have a son in the DEMO!!!
I had only had 1 son ...
I went past 100 years old but it was worth it!
I hope i get one in this years FM!!! Its the best feauture!
You do? That was quick lol
Do you have any link explaining how to activate this hidden feature? Never heard of that and seems pretty fun. Just hope these sons are not half star newgens.
There is no way to "activate" this. Every manager in the game has the same chance of getting a newgen created that is basically his "son". These newgens are technically exactly like other newgens, so they have the same chances of being busts or wonderkids or just average youth products than any other newgen created at the club.
First son i've had on any games, shame he isnt too great really, might get a cup game or two though if he's lucky
Not in my faves, but first english regen since i started just happens to have my surname![]()
Yeah, had a son in FM 2007. He wasn't too great for a top-tier club. But could have been a good 2nd tier player.
I'm still waiting for my first "son" looks like so far I'm firing blanks![]()
I had a regen come up in my youth team this year with my surname. He doesn't have me in his favourite personnel though.
But when the youth intake come through, I did have a nickname set for my manager. Could this have an effect?
I want him to be my son.![]()
I guess it depends really, is it a common name, i was unsure of my player too, but there are maybe 1 or 2 regens that come through in the whole game called small, the only thing stopping him being my son is the favourite thing.
I'd say it was a son, unless it's a name like Smith or Jones, then maybe not.
Also i have 2 female staff at Banik, wonder if one of them is the mother![]()
I thought that, in order to be your son, the player had to have you in his favourite list?
My surname is in the database and is, I suppose, fairly common (Hayes).
I'm the St. Albans City manager and he was, apparently, born in Kingston-upon-Thames. So probably unlikely to be that missing son I have been looking for in all of my FM years.![]()
Yeah i thought that to, so maybe mine isnt either, but as im in Czech, he has my surname, English 2nd nationality and im in his favourites, i'm saying he is![]()
Yours does sound more likely if you're playing in the Czech Republic and he came through with English second nationality as well as your name!
But you say that he didn't have you as a favourite when he came through originally (although he has now?)Is that right?
Maybe someone from SI could confirm whether or not 'sons' are supposed to have you in their favourite personnel (and whether or not setting a nickname might have an impact on this)?
Yours sounds as if it should be a legitimate son Charlesbeams. I wonder if mine could be too? Maybe I will just praise him to get on to his favourites list and then tell everyone he is my son.![]()
Ah i read it wrong, i thought we were on about him being in my faves, but yeah i was in his faves from the start.
According to FM Wiki (http://www.footballmanagerwiki.co.uk...hp?title=Son):
So it sounds unlikely that mine is a son because I am not in his favourite personnel and he is not in my favourite personnel (I don't even have a favourite personnel!) He was also not born in St. Albans. It is possible to have your own 'son' come through your club's youth ranks. They have the same surname as the manager, and both you and the son have each other as favoured personnel. His birthplace will be the same town as where you were managing at the time (if you were managing Swindon Town 15 years ago and your Son is 15, he'll have been born in Swindon).
Although I'm wondering how accurate this information actually is?![]()
Hopefully someone in the know will come in here at some point and let us know the proper criteria.![]()
I've just checked on FMRTE, only thing i could think of that would show who i like, and Paul is in relations at 100, so is my son, but he doesnt show on the game.
*just like to state that i only use FMRTE to change kits each season* (i know what some people are like on here)
so crouchaldinho, if he wasn't in your faves, it's unlikely he's a son unfortunately![]()
I had a son (Richard) on FM10... although he wanted to play for england not Ireland so i was never really fond of him.
In regards to what you have said, I've a feeling that a lot of the son info might just be assumed to be correct, i wonder if anyone from SI could clarify. My Son in Fm10 was born in Northampton even though i was only managing there for about 8 seasons when he arrived in my youth set up. I was in his fave personnel but he wasn't in mine (like your situation). I cant see it being a coincidence as i was Irish, he was Irish/English, plus my surname isn't that common.
1127 hours played with FM09, 2130 hours played on FM10 and 950 hours spent on FM11 so far.
And still no son in sight![]()
if you are good at programing and software engineering is their anyway you could alter the code to increase chances?
if i found my son in FM i would be all over FMRTE making him the next Willie Miller!!!!
would making yourself older increase chances, beacause if you 30-40 your son will come through sooner if it comes through at all than a 25 or whatever the minium age is ?
My first ever son, though he's from FM10! I was West Ham boss a few years ago, and he appeared there apparently. Didn't notice him till just now when I decided to search for anyone who had me in their favourites, and I looked for young players, and found him. Sadly West Ham released him, but I'll sign him as soon as I get a club job to make up for my absentee parenting.
It's odd though, his place of Birth was London. I've only managed in London(Spurs and West Ham) in the past 10 years, I was at Liverpool from 2021-2029. Just wondering if their place of birth is just set to be where they're created in game?
Could mine perhaps be my son but maybe he just doesn't really like me?![]()
I know you were only teasing Milnerpoint but that still hurt my feelings.![]()
No son of mine would use FMRTE anyway!![]()
Never knew of this feature before, it's pretty cool but I'm now worried that in my deleted past games was my on sonIs this the only way you end up with someone on your favourite personnel? I'd always wondered what the point of that was.
If I ever have a son, regardless if his crap or not, his name goes first on the team sheet. When he retires, he will become my assistant. I am a biased coach anyways
Will my uncommon name prevent me from ever having a son? It appears nowhere in the database except for me.
Thats because you've been playing too much FM and havent been spending time with the missus!!
I adopted a regen who is better than Ronaldo. Does that count?![]()
I'll know if I get a son because my manager name is Sir Liam Of Taylor
Update on my son, he left Banik after a few seasons.....because he was rubbish and joined Swansea and had a few loan spells. Then he was a free transfer, and i didnt want him to retire early, so i signed him back again haha.
Then he left again for Derry City and has been there since. I'm hoping he wants to become a coach or something once he finally retires, but we'll see.
Got my son in 2nd season with At. Madrid. Was a good player but decided to sell because i had a world beating team at the time and he wasn't getting in the squad often enough.

i've been misspelling my name in a way that it cannot be a coincidence if another player has it.
I've yet to have a son in any FM game, which I kind of like because if nothing else, it represents a reason to keep playing! I think my results may suffer if I did have a son, too. I can only imagine how biased I'd be towards him, playing him at every opportunity and giving him chances that should go to much better players...
Incidentally, I'd love if more was made of such a development. For instance, when the son first appears amongst the intake of youth players, there could be a seperate news item discussing how he was the manager's son and might feel extra pressure to succeed at the club. If you gave him his debut, the press could ask you about it, perhaps suggesting that he only played because he was your son, or alternatively asking how proud it made you to see him pull on the club's shirt for the first time. If he became a regular in the team but wasn't playing well, the fans might, in addition to criticising his form, feel you haven't dropped him because he's family. You could even go as far as to have a news item that popped up if you sold him in the Summer transfer window, suggesting that you'd have to hope he forgave you in the next few months because otherwise Christmas dinner might be an awkward affair... well, perhaps ignore that last bit, but there's certainly room in which it could be given a little more depth, rather than just being a random event in the game.
An opposition player had the same name as me, I only noticed because he scored, is this what this son thing is
I've just got a son in 3rd season of a Man Utd save (FM2011). Checked my under 18's and regen with same surname as me, same nationality and has me listed as his favoured personnel.
First time ever I've found a son, and I have played a hell of a lot.
Pity he is dire!
Must be pure luck. Where "sons" in FM2009?..cos I'm still playing as Everton in 2080 and never had a son.
what does 1/10,000 mean?
1/10,000 every year or 1/10,000 for every players that promotes?
Is it so rare really?
Great, great sons all!!!
Never had a son unfortunately, but do they only ever generate as players or can they pop up as coaches, scouts and other staff occasionally?
