ism-scfc Posted June 15, 2010 Share Posted June 15, 2010 Inspired by the World cup, I wanted to do an International save, so I opened a save on 10.3 with the following leagues England (Premier League only) France (Ligue 1 only) Spain (La Liga only) Germany (Bundesliga only) Italy (Serie A only) with top division players retained from all continents making 89000 players. Exceeds my computers 'recommendations', but who cares? seems to work OK. I looked to see which nations had no manager, and found Ecuador who had a decent squad, and a decent chance of qualification for South Africa. ism-scfc Posted June 15, 2010 Author Share Posted June 15, 2010 The home side, under new English management, started brightest in Quito, but couldn’t find a breakthrough, mainly due to a hatful of missed chances from Malaga striker Felipe Caicedo. The deadlock was broken, however, just 25 seconds after half time, when Antonio Valencia’s cross was turned home by winger Luis Bolaños. The goal forced Paraguay into the game for the first time, and they hit back when Oscar Cardozo beat debutant keeper Alexander Domínguez to the loose ball and rolled it into the net. Ecuador’s change had an immediate impact however, as Carlos Tenorio, brought on for the ineffective Caicedo, took just 8 seconds to restore Ecuador’s lead, their second goal of the game almost direct from the kick off. ism-scfc Posted June 16, 2010 Author Share Posted June 16, 2010 Ecuador had a great chance to take the lead after only 10 minutes in Bógota, but Birmingham striker Christian Benitez blazed over when through on goal. The away side had all the early possession but it was Colombia who struck first in this clash of fierce rivals when Ecuadoran defender Jorge Campos deflected a cross into the path of Porto striker Falcao who was left with a simple finish. Ecuador levelled though when Joffre Guerrón benefitted from a brilliant advantage from the Argentinian referee after a foul on Benitez, to curl around the keeper to register his first for his country. The game swung Colombia's way after half time when the flag stayed down following a long ball by Cristian Zapata allowing Falcao his second simple finish of the game, and Colombia sealed the points when Zapata headed home a corner with 25 minutes to go. The home side were made to sweat for their points though when keeper Julian Viafara spilled a simple cross at the feet of Guerrón who tapped home a gift. Ecuador's management responded by throwing on Felipe Caicedo to make a total of 5 strikers on the pitch, but Antonio Valencia's threatening cross in stoppage time was dealt with, and Colombia held on to the points, which will completely open up the race to represent Conmebol in South Africa Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
ism-scfc Posted June 16, 2010 Author Share Posted June 16, 2010 Ecuador will be disappointed to have drawn a blank in a dull game in La Paz. Chances were few and far between, but the best one fell to Cristian Lara on the edge of the box, but his shot cleared the crossbar. The referee turned down a penalty appeal from captain Neicer Reasco at the end, but it wasn't Ecuador's day, and they will now have to beat Uruguay in Quito next month to stand a chance of Qualifying. Frustratingly for Ecuador, they were probably the better side throughout, but Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan combined in the 37th minute and the Atletico Madrid striker fired home after shrugging off the attentions of Ecaudor defender Giovanny Espinoza. Ecuador's shining light was striker Carlos Tenorio, whose work down the right flank nearly forced an equaliser, but a Uruguayan defender beat Antonio Valencia to the low cross. Humberto Suazo gave Chile the lead from long range, and the home side doubled the lead when new Tottenham signing Rodrigo Tello drove in, again from long range. Chile made it 3-0 when Ecuador failed to pick up Esteban Paredes in the box. Ecuador showed what they can do in the last few minutes, first a great run from Luis Bolaños led to a foul by Gonzalo Fierro, and Joffre Guerron converted the resulting penalty. Christian Noboa was recalled to the Ecuador squad, and the Rubin Kazan midfielder opened the scoring when he headed home Antonio Valencia's free kick. Valencia himself doubled the lead just 3 minutes later before Luis Bolaños made it three.
