There's going to be some tough competition for that...
How's the computer, Des?
Grrr I hate them with a Passion, and I hope they lose more customers because of it.
I think a 30min wait no matter time of day on the helpline is also disgusting, oh or 4 hours for a response on the website...bloody gross.
I think the competition in that Key to Sucess sign-up is going to be massive, there will be lots of forms and only 10 spots (Hopefully more) Corinthiano - where did you place your team?
Key to Success
There you go![]()
I put mine in Newquay, went for the Cornwall not having any decent teams, but saw that someone went for Truro in that region as well. So unless a rivalry is created there one ofus won't get it...
I am still going to follow the sign-up even if don't ge a place, the idea looks amazing and I think Wgason will do an excellent job.
Someone point m12315432643764755475437648585 in its general direction so he can learn how to do an opening post...
It looks great though
Yeah I agree I will follow it no matter if I am in or out, thought the North looked like a pretty good spot, and basing my team in the shadow of the 2nd largest Inhabited castle in England also good.
Yeah I think you went for something quite different there, good luck with it![]()
And good luck to you too![]()
Looks like it can be a quality AI experiment...kudos to Wegason.
I like it, but I'm just too tired atm to do my writeup...played some football with some mates. Totally battered right now.(it's pre-season for me. I follow MLS schedule
)
And some of you may know (think only Des knows), but I have been doing a little experiment with a no player db. I've been thinking of what variables I can use for this experiment, and how many leagues should I load if I do go ahead with this experiment. It will be a holiday-only experiment.
Any ideas possibly about this? I've always been interested in no player db and saves and would love to do an experiment with it.
There's a reason I did that, put the form away from the instructions.
I think the idiom would be, 'to sort the wheat from the chaff.'

Generally most NP DB's are about rebalancing the world, but most have failed as the league reps don't change and as such the best players still gravitate towards those major leagues, possible ways to fix this would be to go through and try and fix the league reps of each country to similar, so top level in each country is 20 and 2nd tier is 15 and so on, but really I think using a NP database would just be a great way to test the regens generated world wide, so depending on how many leagues you can run would decide how you do it.
So my ideas:
Just NP database no other changes.
Focus on the Regen Quality as your experiment (Extensions on this idea)
Leagues: I would suggest a range of leagues, not sure what your computer can handle, but I personally say avoid england, everyone does england :P
Thanks for the input Des.
My current 'test' is already reshaping the footballing landscape. Only in 2010, but I've already seen...
I've also done a test in FM08 last year with a no player db, and it seems that the teams that I didn't load are doing well in the international scene.
- countries like Albania, Qatar, and Bosnia making the World Cup
- an Australia-Argentina WC Final, with Australia winning it all
- an all Belgian Champions League final (although I did not load the Belgian league)
- Manchester United losing 4-0 to AEK at home (also didn't load Greek league)
- and the rest seem normal, although right now Man City are in relegation zone, but I think that should be normal.
Just NP database no other changes. - a good idea. Personally I don't want to take too much of my time on this. I have coursework to do, but this no player db seems like a lot of fun, and it won't take me long for updates.
Focus on the Regen Quality as your experiment (Extensions on this idea) - I probably won't consider this idea. The threads I've seen about Regen Quality experiments seem to take a long, and I'm short on time.
Leagues: I would suggest a range of leagues, not sure what your computer can handle, but I personally say avoid england, everyone does england :P - I would personally keep England, just to see Man City suffer. I'm not sure how many leagues should I choose. I have 10 leagues loaded in my test, and maybe I should also load some lesser known European leagues. I've been debating for a while how many leagues I should choose for a while now...just stick to Europe? Or load leagues from other nations too.
Anymore suggestions? I'll reply after I eat Canadian dinner lol.
Last edited by rancer890; 27-03-2009 at 22:21.
I would load a couple of lesser known leagues - might show the effect of having the leagues loaded, so you can compare it with a similar country that you don't have loaded...
Oh, and going off topic, I'm planning on Greyhounding around the US and a bit of Canada in the summer, so what's worth seeing in Toronto??
G'day all.
I was supposed to start my Premiership Predictions League on Thursday, but have had huge computer problems all this week. Hopefully I'll be able to get on next Thursday and start it then because I'm really looking forward to getting it going. Sorry everyone, but looking forward to seeing as many people as possible participating!
Can I take part in it
Anybody may take part!!! More details will be realeased when I actually begin it hopefully on Thursday!!
OK mate thanks
Is there any leagues where no teams get relegated
Why? Are you interested in making another sign-up?
No teams are relegated from the Australian League and I don't think there is relegation from the 2nd tier of the South Korean league aswell. The MLS has no relegation, but I'm not sure that you'd want that.
Just doing some research......
Thanks for suggestions btw
There's no relegation from the bottom division in Scotland either.
Hmm ok. I have 10 leagues loaded in my test, so I'm thinking 5 'big' leagues and 5 'small' leagues (all based in Europe) for the actual experiment...
Big Leagues
Small Leagues
- England - to BSN/BSS
- France - to CFA
- Germany - to Third Division
- Italy - to Serie C2
- Spain - to Second Division B
I'm also thinking of an International experiment along with this no player DB and alter the reputations of 5 nations, with either...
- Sweden - to Second Division
- Romania - to Second Division
- N. Ireland - to Second Division
- Belgium - to Third Division
- Iceland - to First Division
one from each continent
Africa - Somalia (50) - Highest Rep is Ivory Coast (6000)
Asia - Guam (50) - Highest Rep is South Korea (6050)
Europe - San Marino (2050) - Highest Rep is Italy (9250)
N. America - Montserrat (100) - Highest Rep is Mexico (7150)
Oceania - American Samoa (50) - Highest Rep is New Zealand (3150)
Not including South America as Venezuela have the lowest rep in the continent - at 4200.
or...
5 European Nations
Either way, what reputations should I set these poor nations to be competitive, but not dominate...
- San Marino (2050)
- Luxembourg (2500)
- Andorra (2550)
- Armenia (2900)
- Malta (3000)
Cheers in advance with the output.

As for Toronto, there's quite a lot of attractions. If you come in August, there's the Canadian National Expedition (CNE), filled with attractions and rides alike, or another themepark is Paramount Canada's Wonderland. The Harbourfront Centre usually has a lot of events in the summer also.
There's quite a lot in the city, and also consider...
Museums and Markets
Attractions
- Saint Lawrence Market
- Hockey Hall of Fame
- Ontario Science Centre
- Roy Thomson Hall
- Art Gallery of Ontario
- Royal Ontario Museum
- Canadian Warplane Museum
- Toronto Aerospace Museum
- Cullen Gardens
- Toronto Zoo
And you can also treat yourself to some Canadian soccer.
- CNE
- Ontario Place
- Wonderland
- Old Fort York
- Casa Loma

m1234566778 I am interested in your signup game idea.
Chairmen name: Antonios Kinnas
Main chairman attribute:
Way nice one. I presume u think there should be a chairman attribute as well. Please fill it in mate. Right, I have two ideas:
1. I fill the teams from the island of Sodor with teams that have been successful over time e.g Huddersfields squad in the 20's and Man U's squad of 99.
2 I fill the teams using an order system(draft)
I like the first idea. Any thoughts?

You know what thoughts you are going to get here and if you read the Sticky dafuge put up yesterday, you'd know that if you did a new sign-up it would be closed or you'd have to abandon the other one you're running.
EDIT: Actually my mistake, it doesn't say anything about closing anything there, but it probably would be closed if you started a new one.

Not gonna do sign up yet. Just looking for feedback.
I posted this idea a couple of days ago ...
I had an idea for a sign-up that i wanted to run past you before just going ahead with it, whilst reading up on Nations that don't have FIFA recognition but still play there own tournaments like the one's run by the Nouvelle Federation-Board i came accross the Romani peoples Nation and thought how cool it would be to have an International football team that didn't even have it's own country (and not just like Palestine) but an entire nation of refugees (travellers, Gypsy's, Bohemians whatever you call them where your from). I've spent alot of spare time in the last week or so playing around with the editor testing a few of the ideas i'd need (i still want to run an holiday tonight has a final test) but the basic idea is to run the Nation with people submitting there own players and to also run possibly 4 clubs in 4 different league's to represent the geographic diversity of the people i'd personaly manage the Nation i think and update how everyone's players are doing. The problem i've been trying to solve for the last 2 days is to do with people gaining citizenship (it isn't important for the sign up but i'm a perfectionist) non UK citizens gain but UK national's stay on 0 for days completed, anyone with any ideas has to what i could be doing wrong? Could it be to do with Longtitude and Latitude of city's i have set up?The way i've set it up so far is to use CIS set has based in central europe and adding 4 new City's to create the regens with the rough longtitude and lattitude of neighbourhoods or areas frequented by Romani. I've also found a list of famous Romani descendants who have become footballers who i'm going to give Romani Nation has a second Nationality
Heh, I don't like using two acronyms next to each other![]()
Yeah, it does look weird. Loving the location btw. Special1TV ftw!![]()
Too rightOnly did it because theres a couple of geordies in GPTG OTF
![]()
I have put this in football forum as well but want to know who you think were the most successful team of all time? It's part of my research btw
Real Madrid...
You misunderstood. I mean like the Arsenal untouchables or Huddersfield in the 20's.
Ok then, Preston in the late 19th Century, Huddersfield in the 20s, Arsenal in the 30s, Everton 1927/28, Busbys Utd, nearly any Liverpool team from the 80s, Man Utd 98/99, Arsenal untouchables, Man Utd this season if they carry on the way they're going![]()
Carrying on the way they are going by losing 4-0 to Liverpool and then 2-0 to Fulham... Hardly one of the best teams ever over the whole season anyway.
If they manage to win the quintuple though, I'm not saying they are just that if they manage to win the quintuple they'll go down as one of the best.
Thanks for those mate
Has this got anything to do with this forum? If not, can you please keep it to your thread in the football forum.
I posted because I thought it was to do with a prospective sign up, sorry if it's not dafuge
Yes it has dafuge. Part of my research
Research for what?
And is for my new sign up idea
Incidentally I have an idea for a holiday game. It'll probably mainly appeal to my fellow JoseRR competitors but here it is nonetheless.
Once/if I complete the challenge I plan on running a separate holiday continuing from where I leave off. The idea is to follow my (soon to be great) Savona side and look at how the AI deals with a new era following domestic and European glory. I'll be looking at the chairman's decision making with the new boss, his signings, sales, and generally the direction Savona go. The bottom line ultimately asks whether the AI can keep a successful 'small' club at the top and for how long. I plan on running it on holiday for many many seasons.
Should be pretty interesting that, I predict that the AI will undo all the good work you have done and take the club back down due to poor transfer deals.
Yeah that's kind of what I'm expecting to be honest but I would say from my experience with current Kuwaiti oil tycoon chairman, he appears to be relatively good. He demands a lot from me now we're at the top and always offers a large budget each season. The key will be in his judging ability of my successor. I guess his hidden stats will make interesting viewing.
Sorry, but imo you shouldn't start another signup. You should re-read the sticky at the top. Memorize it.
Oh, and looking at the attributes of greyed players, it looks abnormal. It seems like a bug. The grey players look far stronger than the regens... (although I don't think the SI db's main purpose was deleting every player in the game.)
I'm pretty sure Grey players are maxed out to fill up all of their PA.
Nearly forgot about that...
Anyways, any suggestions?Hmm ok. I have 10 leagues loaded in my test, so I'm thinking 5 'big' leagues and 5 'small' leagues (all based in Europe) for the actual experiment...

For those who are interested, the sign-up that I will be co-running with hasdgfas is up.
I've had an idea for a sign up and was wondering what people think.
It basically involves the user creating a player but everything about him (other than personal data) would be random. There would be a scoring system and every 6 months (Xmas and End of Season) a winner would be decided who then got the chance to increase/decrease his attibrutes by from two sets of cards (or something like that depending on what I can code) along with a +/- card.
Example:
User A's guy wins the Xmas award and gets his prizes. This means he gets to choose from one of his three attributes sections (technical, mental, physical) and would see a screenshot of that section only. He would then pick an attribute that he would like to attempt to increase and would draw his cards. See below for examples.
--- ---
l - l l + l
--- ---
*Notes,
1. This would be coded and would hopefully look better.
2. User would not be able to see +/-
3. Location of symbol would be determined by a random number generator.
After choosing his first card he would then pick from a set of 5 cards to determine the amount his chosen attribute would increase or decrease. Each card would have a value ranging from 1 to 5 which would again be attached using a random number generator.
So to sum it up User A chooses to have a screenshot of his technical attributes. He then decides to attempt to increase his finishing. Luck is on his side and he draws the + card along with the number 3. This means using FMRTE I would increase his finishing skill by 3 as his reward. The same would go if he had chosen the - card.
Please let me know what you think about the basic idea as I have a few refinements (such as if winner doesn't want to take the risk on his player he can attempt to lower another guys attributes, the downside of this risk being it could end up increasing hos rivals attributes, this of course would be without seeing a screenshot of the other player.)
Ooh, sounds interesting.
I like it, especially the fact that there would be constant interaction between everyone![]()
Brilliant idea BlowcrapupVery original
![]()
Blowcrapup - I also like the idea of risking to attempt and lower your opponents stats as well. Asking for one section of anyone in the game, that could make it all even more exciting.
Right then going to run it just working out scoring system and working some stuff out.
If anyone wants to use this experiment, feel free to do so. I like the idea but don't feel like doing it myself. What I can do is edit a database and let someone take it from there.
This is the battle of feet. There are 4 rival teams. They are: Either Foot FC, Left Foot FC, Right Foot FC, and No Foot FC. All the players on each team are identical (in each postion, so all wingers would have generic good dribbling, crossing, etc. with all defenders having good tackling, etc.) except for 1 thing: Feet. Either Foot FC is a team with all players with either foot, Right with right, Left with left, No Foot with no feet at 20 (if that's possible).
It would be interesting to see which team does the best, and to see if Either footed players made a difference. And also to see if the non-either footed teams struggled having RBs with left feet, etc. We all know having 1 foot increases attributes, and having 2 feet decreases attributes. So we're checking to see if 1 footed players benefit from attributes boost and if either footed players can make up for the decrease by utilizing both feet.
To make sure outside factors don't affect too much the teams, it should be made sure the teams, staff, and players all have identical stats for their respective positions.
One thing I'm not sure about is the Either Footed players. Should there be 10 players with Right 20 and Left 15 and vice versa or all players 20-20? Most likely I'd make the Right/Left players 20-5 since the majority of real life players have a rating like this.
EDIT: And also, what do people think would be the best way to test this? Average players in 2nd/3rd division or world class players in Premier League?

Ok after trying to get into games in challenges using FM08 and just not being able to get into it at all I have decided to run an experiment instead. Basically I want to investigate whether the world of football would change if every nation had the same starting reputation and the world was Regen only.
So far I have taken a FM08 no players database and then reset the nations all to 1000 rep. Personally I think that is all the changes I should make to the nations, because if I change anything else then it will interrupt the integrity of it all. Now I have a few other ideas to throw out there, but not sure which is best.
1. I add 22 players of average Serie B Quality with PA of 200 to the database based in the Serie C1 or C2 (Currently Italy is the only guaranteed league) - I am thinking about giving these players nationalities based in some of the former small nations that now have the same rep as everywhere else, so 22 different nations, which i would take suggestions as to which ones. These would be nations without playable leagues so that they would run as a seperate group to the leagues mentioned in section 2.
2. What leagues to run, no idea what I should run, but I believe the ones I run should end up stronger than the others, but who really knows. So that would also be part of the experiment. So then I have 5-10 countries with a league running and these would then be set as the group of nations which have leagues to see whether that can make them improve faster.
Basically I think I want 3 core groups.
a) Nations with a few top class players each.
b) Nations with leagues playable
c) Nations with no leagues and no class players
Basically then I would be able to compare the nations in each section at different points and may be able to make decisions on where it is at and what really affects the reputation. I would most likely be using FMM or something similar to keep track of the CA/PA of the worlds players and other things. If anyone knows of a program that I can use to better search the database of FM08 could they give me a link to it. Thanks for any advice etc in advance.
Edit: Using current World Rankings and the idea of being able to compare reasonable comparative teams i thought having 3 from the top 9 & 3 from 51st-59th in each group would work well, so i would be following the success and failure of the following 18 countries on that system, I could also follow a couple of others if anyone would like.
League Running
2nd Germany
4th Italy
7th Croatia
53rd Slovakia
57th Finland

Haha Des, I certainly gave you inspiration for that no player db idea.
Anyways, after much deliberation with Des, I have come up with the following...
CSE type: Experiment
Database: No Player Database (9.2 iirc)
Leagues:
Objectives:
- England - to BSN/BSS
- France - to CFA
- Germany - to 3rd Division
- Italy - to Serie C2
- Spain - to Second Division B
- Sweden - to Second Division
- Romania - to Second Division
- N. Ireland - to Second Division
- Belgium - to Third Division
- Iceland - to First Division
- Load players from: China, New Zealand, Somalia, San Marino, Luxembourg, Montserrat (more on this in a moment)
Quite a few
I'm now going to start the writeup for the initial post.
- Determine the general imbalance of the footballing world without real players
- Modify the nations from the Load players from list to 7000 (equivalent to the 10th best team in Europe as of 9.2, Turkey), from the worst countries in terms of rep except: Luxembourg (wanted another Euro team), China (I have roots from there), and New Zealand (Des wanted NZ
)
- I will also modify the worst teams in each country loaded and playable the first season. They will all get a sugar daddy chairman and max training and youth facilities
- We all know the general imbalance of the grey teams with a no player db. It would be interesting which countries dominate in this particular save.
EDIT: And TFC tied Columbus today 1-1. Columbus scored an own goal. Now unbeaten in 2 games and sit atop the Eastern Conference.![]()

Excellent looking start there Rancer, i agree with it all the way. My roots are NZAs for the rest looks perfect to me. And yes you will definitely get big ups in my one, I was so without ideas then I realised that there are so many ways to take no player databases that it could make for some interesting comparisons all around.
Congrats to TFC, might actually do something this season :P
Blowcrapup's idea has great potential, me likey.
Umm Iacovone have a look in the threads he has posted it already![]()
Look Des its late, I'm tired, I've been working aaaaaaaaaand I'M SORRY
Gutted I didn't make it into the test![]()
After playing a few signups, I've decided to do one of my own. In a Big Brother type thing (although it won't be annoying like the TV show). 20 people will sign up, starting off at the age of 17, at the end of each season it will be up to the forumites to vote off one player. He will still remain in the game but will be out of the comptetition and receive no more updates.
Obviously this will take 19 seasons to come to a conclusion, so at the age of 36 we will have our winner of favourite striker.
The rules will be, each player will be a striker, each will be English nationality and declared for England.
The PA for each player will assigned a number from 180 to 200, the numbers would be unique and random. So PLayer A could be 180, Player B 185, Player C 194 etc... no two players will have the same PA.
The CA will be the same in increments of 5, from 50 -150, both the CA & PA would be hidden.
The people who sign up will be allowed to choose 2 attributes from mental, technical and physical as well as 2 preferred moves.
They can also choose which team to start with, on of the 20 Premiership teams, again these are individual and only one player can start at one team, on a first come first served basis.
The game will then start with no interference, an update at the end of the season for each player (and hopefully) Feb 1st each season, then the voting at the end of the season to see who carrys on.
How does this sound, any ideas or clarification would be greatly received.
sounds original I suppose, might break a personal rule and sign up to a sign up run by a user I haven't seen much of.
I really like it too, would definately sign-up for it
People that sign-up and never post would be voted out early, which would be good. I can also see a lot of tactical voting going on, so the best player probably wouldn't win it.
I would say don't force every player to be English - it's nice to get a mix as you might do in real life Big Brother. I don't know if you want to incorporate the idea of tasks and moles and things.
Perhaps instead of getting people to choose their Mental, Physical and Tactical, have them just choose their Mental attributes to say what sort of a character they want their Big Brother contestant to be in the house.
Of course, these are only suggestions, and if it's only going to be like Big Brother in name and evictions, feel free to discredit them.
Our good friend m1019823734e68 is trying to change one of his ideas into a story and is trying to get the FMS members involved![]()
I think the Big Brother idea is brilliant, i always think sign-ups where people are voted off work well as it encourages banter and makes sure people are involved
Thanks for the good feed back for my Big Brother idea, will probably start the sign up thread tonight or tomorrow.
The only thing based on big brother is the evictions, I personally can't stand the program, so if anyone can think of a better name for the sign up, it would be gratefully received!!
great idea with the big brother thing, just give it a name like FM09: Forumite Brothers
Talking of tv shows, have you got any plans for bringing back the Mole Paul? That was great while it was on
I can't rule it out, but there almost certainly wont be an FM09 version of it, so if anybody wants to run one then that's fine with me.
I might have a go at it once I've done my exams
Now I've nearly finished writing my story, I fancy trying my hand at another sign up. I do fancy being fairly topical, and the latest series of the Apprentice is just getting going again. I dimly recall back when I joined that we had one for FM08, and that it was rather good, but I can't for the life of me remember who ran it. If they are still around, are they planning a repeat, or would they mind if I ran the sequel???
Cheers...
it was canvey!!, and yes I'm afraid he is planning to run a repeat.
canvey!! ran The Apprentice last season.
That was fb in all fairness, is he running it after he finishes the Whitehouse sign up?
Anyway, I posted a few months ago about the new version of the CSE European Championships but most of the reliable users said they were too busy, would anyone be interested in taking part in the tournament in around late May/Early June, I know most of us have exams in May so it'll be after that at least.
Bugger... Will have to come up with something more original then..it was canvey!!, and yes I'm afraid he is planning to run a repeat.
You could have my Survivor if you're interested, I won't have the time to run it for a while
I can't remember him saing that. Maybe try PM'ing him![]()
I'll do that first rancer then do The Mole after that if I have the time
Alright fair enough. Will need to find a new site to upload everything though... (it's all on filefront)
You're doing the next update though.![]()
