I'm presuming this is for the CSE Euros? I have no problem with you being on as long as you do your seasons. I'm gonna be doing a club world championship version to test drive the whole thing so do you want to be on that list too? Anyone that finishes all games that they are eligible for will be considered and the two finalists will be guaranteed a place in the European Championships if they want it.
Hmm I'm stuck in a rut at the moment, I want to run a betting sign up but I don't want anyone to think I'm copying arkitekt88 although I will be making it as different from the netting shop as you can considering the fact that there isn't that many changes you can make as far as the betting is concerned so I pm'ed him a week ago to ensure he was alright with me doing a betting sign up, the problem is that he hasn't responded in over a week, any opinions? Should I just start it or should I wait for a response?
I suppose you can keep waiting for 2 to 3 weeks, then maybe run it. I kinda did something like that for the FM08 A New World...I kinda took it over.![]()
For those of you that are interested My Strictly French Football sign up has just started sign up now!
But I don't want to take over the betting shop, mine should be a whole different idea :/
I know the sign up of an offline premiership where everyone tells the person hosting it what tactics to use, and players to sign and such has been done before, but there is none currently running and I feel it's a good sign up to run. What does anyone else think about me possibly doing this as a sign up?
personally hate the look of those things, seem extremely time consuming and hard to take part in/run. Thought the European Championship one was good because it was fairly short term, but doing it for '38 weeks' for 20 teams would be extremely difficult to run imo.
I reckon you'll get 20 people to sign up for it though.
So basically one person hosts a match and then other forumers make the decisions? Tactics, transfers, training etc.?
EDIT: Like Paul said, you could have trouble witht he amount it could take to make one small decision etc.
yeah roberto, that's it exactly. That's a good point Paul, not sure what I could do though to make it less time consuming and easier to run though, any suggestions?
I just wouldn't recommend running it tbh without meaning to sound dismissive.
yeah I probably won't. Will cost to much work and time to run.
Will be posted my 'idea' next week most probably, once I have carried out some tests (which start tonight)
spoiler:
Also, if anyone reading this is interesting in taking part in a 'Racing simulation game' like F1/AI on a website called 'batracer' or if you have batracer and haven't already joined the CSE/OTF clan on the website, please pm me,
Have been working through my sign up quite quicklyProbably won't have it up till next weekend mind
I wonder when WW will post his new sign up idea, he did say it would come today![]()
yeah ive been looking forward to it
Below is my idea of what to do for my FM09 sign up. It has been written in the style of the opening post of the sign up.
WWs tribute to a commentators curse of an OOTP style dragons den adventure within Eurovision land, not forgetting the old create a player and play for a small country addage
Introduction
Hello everyone and welcome to my FM09 sign up, which as you may be able to tell from the concise title is a spin off of Peter Kays show on reality TV shows, only for CSE sign ups.
The Background
Thanks to a generous donation from a mystery Russian businessman, a new national team competition has been set up in aid of helping 8 lesser nations within Europe. He has provided each nation selected £1bn to spend on developing football in their country. Due to his contacts within FIFA & UEFA, he has also struck a deal whereby domestic clubs from these nations will now play their football in the lower leagues of larger European nations, so for example San Marino will now be joined by other San Marinese clubs in the Italian C2 league structure.
The end result of this investment by the anonymous Russian, is that these nations will now compete not just to make the major international finals, but also against each other in a new Friendly Competition, called the Eurovision Paper Plate Cup. Teams will play each nation in a league based series of friendly matches over the space of 2 seasons to decide who is crowned the winner. Prize money will be given depending on where nations finish in this league, with the money being able to be spent on developing those nations clubs in the hope of developing new wonderkids of the future. His ultimate aim is to turn these nations all into worldbeaters in international football.
So how does the sign up work
However, I hear you say how does this link all back in to the signing up process, well each of the 8 teams will be made up of 5 members of the forum and will be split into 3 levels:
Level 1: The gaffer This person will actively play the OOTP style role, being the manager of their nation and submitting tactics to myself for when their nation plays games. All games will be controlled by their Assman, under the proviso of setting team selection and tactics. Therefore the manager of each nation will also create an assman during the sign up period. (Credit to bamble and wisla for the previous incarnations of this style of sign up)
Level 2: The Players As leaving the nations as they currently are would make this sign up pretty difficult for any managers to qualify for major championships, each side will given 3 star 18 year old players: A striker, a midfielder and a defender. Each person who signs up will create a player for their designated position and I will track their fortunes throughout the sign up. Managers will be forced to select these players for national team matches whenever it is physically possible to do so. These players will have a PA = -10 and a CA = 90.
Level 3: The Chief Executive of the National FA To add a bit of extra spice to sign up, one person from each team will be given the role of Chief Executive of the National FA. This person will be given the task of spending each nations bounty of £1bn at the start of the game, between schemes such as setting training & youth facilities at their clubs, improving the importance of football in their country, establishing youth academys and improving the reputation of their domestic clubs etc. They will also decide on how to spend the prize money given to each country after each Eurovision Paper Plate Cup Tournament.
The Chief Executive will also be able to spend money on either developing another young starlet for their national side (create a player) or will be able to spend money on buying an existing uncapped player on the FM database to play for their country.
However, the money given to them wont allow them to do make everything excellent from the start, so this player will need to be quite tactical in setting up a good infrastructure for the manager to work with.
Nations to be used:
* Andorra
* Azerbaijan
* Faroe Islands
* Kazakhstan
* Liechtenstein
* Luxembourg
* Malta
* San Marino
To add a bit of mystery to the sign up, initially when players sign up, their national team and managers will be unknown. Once everyone has signed up, I will then perform a draw whereby each set of players on a team will be given a country, a national chief executive and a manager.
The most important people in this sign up are the managers as they have the greatest control over how your national team will ultimately fare. Therefore, to ensure that this sign up runs smoothly, I will be contacting regulars of the forum to see if they will be interested in taking part as a manager.
I hope that is fairly comprehensive and understandable. The greater details will obviously be made available when the thread is started, but that won't be for a few more weeks yet. The reserve list for existing members of my sign up will start in the next few days.![]()
Sounds pretty awesome![]()
looks very complicated but also very interesting WW![]()
Sounds awesome!
very good WW. Hope i could be a cheif executive as i don't think i'm good enough to be an actual manager
I'm interested. Can I reserve a place for when it opens to people who weren't in your old sign up?
Sounds great WW, should be very interesting.
lol, its a lot easier than it may initially look.
Basically it's 3 games in one:
- 8 people are playing an OOTP style game like wisla and Bamble have done in the past
- 8 people are doing a 'fantasy football nation creation' task
- The rest are creating a player and following their nation.
Hopefully that's what I've written above, but in 3 lines!![]()
I'd also prefer to be an executive, not too good at tactics tbh.
If I had a choice, I'd go for being a player.
didnt notice the reserved places for his old sign up before so i'll probably only be able to get in as a player. Still a brilliant idea
I never post in here, but I would definitely like a spot in WW's sign-up when it is opened up to the forum.
Reading through WW's idea I sort of experienced this -
Sounds like a great idea, think I'd prefer to be a player or chief executive, I suck at managing.
That's pretty ambitious WW, but sounds great![]()
I'll be a player WW. Sounds like a cool idea.![]()
Sounds like a great idea WW, would love to be involved.
Should be truly awsome. I prey to god, i manage to sign-up, and even better, ANDORRA!!!!!!
I think the Chief Executive idea sounds brilliant, would love to be involved.
Sounds awesome! Can't wait! Very ambitious sign-up you have there WW!
Right, so I was thinking about what sign-up I might run for this years version and despite having a few idea's there was nothing that I really thought would grab people's attention.
So I went for something that has been attempted multiple times before and even won the award for best failed sign-up at the CSE Forum Awards and basically I wanted peoples opinion on me resurrecting it once again before I got started.
For this year I though I would bring back the "It Could Be You.......who's crap" sign-up.
Thoughts please.
It will all depend on the enthusiasm and effort of the host. I'm confident that you'd be passionate enough to peform it well.
Thanks canvey!!
One thing I forgot to mention that I wanted people's opinions on is any sort of scoring system, at the moment I have 3 options:
1. A league style structure practically the same as WW's Eurovision (with his permission of course)
2. One league table that simply records career appearances, goals etc and we'll see who has the most at the end
3. No scoring system
Any other ideas are also welcome
the 'it could be you thats crap' sign up has the potential to be one of the better sign ups on the boards, they just need a committed host. Hopefully you are that person Whoopy D![]()
After finding inspiration from CSE's current BATracer A1GP game, I had a fantastic idea for a new sign up.
The Idea in principal is:
- Players sign up as a Striker for any Nation they like
- They will have a set CA/PA
- The only differences between players will be their Nationality and the different cosmetic parts you choose
There is another twist. The players don't score 'points' on International games. As this would give an advantage to people that pick the 'bigger nations'. Instead they score points on how they do club-wise. They will score more points for making appearances in the top flight/champions league, than they would in the Blue Square North and the FA Trophy.
The Point system will be explained more at a later stage.
I've had an idea for a signup/challenge. It basically stemed from Nep's youth project when I saw Ridley's had a youth project with the same name as one of mine. It would basically involve everyone creating the same player, with the same attributes,PA etc, then see who can make him have the best career.
I've opened a thread to gauge people's reactions. Link
I had a potentially fairly interesting idea, also slightly derived from Nep's thread, and partly from Robert's premiership draft proposal.
Basically, it would involve 'talent spotting' of regens, probably those coming through at top clubs. I thought it might be interesting to see who can spot raw talent based on players stats at 15/16. It could probably be pitched an agent based competition, with performance judged based on wages and transfer fees earned by the player. I guess you would have to add a new batch of regens each season to keep it interesting, but the issue then would be that before long you'd be tracking quite a lot of players and it would get tricky. You could add in options to trade players and so on to keep it lively.
But in any case, I have neither the game, and more importantly, the time for such a thing so unless anyone's interested in borrowing it, it goes no further than this ramble![]()
I loved this idea, so I thought about it a bit more last night and have come up with this format:
The Concept
Once a year (on a set date e.g. 15th June) the top league of one nation will be chosen. I would then post the league table for last season and give out the level of youth facilities for all clubs. Then on a draft basis the agents (participants in the sign-up) will be able to chose the club they would like to scout out for talent. The player who is last in the sign-up will be first to choose, the second-last would get second pick and so forth. I would then post a screenie of all the players that came through the youth ranks that year and the agent has to pick the player he thinks has the most potential.
The agent will receive 20% of all wages and extra fees + 10% of all transfer fees involving his player. There could also be bonuses for international appearances but I havent really thought of a concrete value or amount. Whoever has the most money at the end of the sign-up wins!
As a new player is selceted ever year, results will could constantly chanege as real talents are picked out by some. I would also like to load up leagues from different continents so that we could have the scenario of lets say a player from Hong Kong making it to Europe and the agent that spotted him really profiting from it against other agents whose players are stuck in Asia.
Number of Participants
10-20 people would probably be a range that is most suitable, it has to be relatively low, as the further game goes, the more effort it would take to update the sign up.
Leagues Loaded
Quite a few, preferably at least one per continent apart from the big leagues in Europe, ideally I d like to load up every league available, ideas on that would be welcome. Also, would it be crucial for the game to be run in full detail level? If not, it is way more likely I d be able to load up more leagues.
So then, hopefully you guys like the idea I "developed" from bermybhoys original ramble
Any feedback or suggestions would be more than welcome!
i have to say that i think it's a great idea. seems pretty original to me, and would be interesting to see who could pick the best players. i'd definately be interested in that.....
that's a really interesting concept of Bermy's idea Corinthiano, however how many players would the agent get in the end, as 20 people each year would eventually take ages for you to do updates on
Corinthiano- cool – I’m glad someone picked up on this. This is largely how I envisaged it. If you went with it that would be great.
I like your idea of using multiple nations; that would add a lot of variety. In terms of the order of draft, after the first year, it could be the ranked on prior year performance. You could also think about using lower league teams sometimes, which would randomize the available quality even more.
For your own sanity I think you need to keep the number of participants down. I would say 10, just to see how it works out (oh, can I claim dibs already?). It occurred to me that the absolute easiest way to do this would be to upload the file each year and let people take a browse, but it would be too easy to cheat. Therefore you’d need to provide screenshots of all of the potential picks. This is where it gets difficult. Even with 10 people, say they have a choice of 3, that’s 30 screenshots, every time.
Then you need to consider how often to update, and how much detail to provide. After 5 years, say, you’re tracking 50 players. If you’re doing the choice of 3 players, plus all the existing players - that already a lot of screenies, and your oldest players are still youngsters – it’s still just getting going.
Of course you wouldn’t necessarily have to show each player every year, perhaps just every 3 or 4 on a rotational basis, or on request, so people can see how they’re developing. The rest of the detail (season stats and earnings) could be done in a table. You’d maybe then just want a narrative to say who got a new contract, news of transfers, and so on.
Anyway, I’m maybe getting bogged down in details here, but I’ve thought about it all so thought I might as well share it. To me it sounds like it could get very time consuming very quickly which is why I haven’t run with it myself – but I’m sure if you’re willing to do it, it would be excellent.
Just read Paul’s post – good point. Maybe if you ran the picks for say 5 or 10 years, then just let their careers play out? If you were only doing 5, maybe everyone could get 2 or 3 players from different countries a year? If you set a limit from the start, you know the absolute maximum number of players you’ll be tracking in the end.
Not sure about full detail. Maybe you could just switch it on for any leagues the players are based in, plus continental competition, if necessary?
Good luck with it
Thanks for the feedback bermybhoy, has made a few things a lot clearer!!
10 does sound like the ideal number now, otherwise updates will be endless!! I have decided to get people to choose players every 2 years. As a player career would last around 20 years, the agents would have a max of 10 to 12 players, which means I d have to update on around 100 players at max, which wouldnt be extremely time consuming in the update format I have in mind.
I would do season updates with short information on how well each player did, if they picked up injuries, won titles, awards or anything else of notice. Like you suggested, I would put all stats into a table.
Uploading all the youth players will be quite an effort, but something that I m willing to do and will be important for the sign-up.
I dont know about lower leagues yet, as some nations top division is pretty much of lower league standard. If you pick players from the Blue Square North for example, you also run a much higher risk of the player retiring very early, whilst players in top divisions can at least drop down a few leagues.
Of course you can claim dibs already bermy, I will only run it when I get the new FM09 in 2 weeks time though.
i'll claim dibs too, if you don't mind![]()
I posted a similar idea at the top of page 14 and have since expanded on it a lot but haven't posted it as i was going to post the thread in a few weeks. However i would be willing to give this up and help you out with yours as i think it would be difficult for me to run this as i do not have a huge amount of time on my hands
I am afraid there isnt much help I would need with the sign up as it would probably take more effort to keep exchanging the save game than making the updates, however I think both ideas are different enough for you to launch your own sign up. bermybhoys idea is more about spotting talent at a young age + they will all be regens, whilst yours gives the agents an opportunity to pick up some more reputable players.
Sure, no problem, am I allowed to set up a sign up form on this thread? I feel the more regular posters come in here so would give them a chance to claim a place in this and as I cant start the sign up until a couple of weeks it would make the startup quicker. If it is not allowed I will stop taking requests to join this though.
I don't think your allowed to start a sign up in here. Try posting it in the main forum but clearly warn people that they will need to post regularly or they will be replaced (unless they have good reason for not posting) and when you get enough people signed up tell people its full, then get Dafuge to close the thread. If you copy all the names and information of people who are signed up into a word document then you'll have it permantly.
Ok, thanks for the info. I have developed an idea of how I ll incentivate people to post so hopefully I wont have a problem.
As I cannot do the sign-up process now (dont want to sign up people now and only start this in a couple of weeks) I am afraid I can only guarantee a place for bermybhoy as he is the creator of the idea. As there will only be 9 extra places it would probably be unfair to allow people to claim places beforehand. I ll give everyone a hint though, it will be up on 12th December![]()
That is a very good idea WW, thanks!
So, if anyone wishes to sign up for the Agents sign up, described a few posts above please PM with the name and nationality of your agent.
I will let everyone know in this thread whe all spots are taken!
Check your inbox corinthiano.![]()
if we've already claimed 'dibs' will we still have to PM you?
Right, I am thinking of doing a new version of a wonderful thread from FM08.
Arsenal all the way to Glory: An Experiment with a New Way of Using Assistant Managers in FM was a cracking thread operated by 'Luke Hearn'.
What was it? Luke started a career as Arsenal and then a few seasons in, he went on the FM boards, with the idea that you (the posters) would be his new assistant managers. There was no need for a sign-up form, or anything like that, It was a free for all discussion on how Luke would handle is team and anyone could put their opinions in at any time. He posted updates after nearly every match, asking the forum questions about new tactics, signing, starting line-ups and even staf hirings.
Why was it stopped? There has never been any word from Luke, he just basically disappeared from the thread and I surely couldn't get this great idea go to waste.
Why are you posting about it? Well I intend to basically do the same thing as Luke, and start a long term career game with you guys as my assistant managers. I may or may not sack my own assistant manager, depending on what you guys think.
What is required? Basically not alot is needed from you. All that I need is some regular posts, idea's and replies to my updates which will basically be after every game and whenever else required. Suggestions on transfers and tactics are also massively appreciated.
What team will be used? More than likely, I won't play as Arsenal, but I will probably open it up to the idea's thread about what team I'll be, and what leagues I will run. Some of my early idea's are:
Manchester City (Take them to the top of the EPL and over their Manchester counterparts.)
Galatasaray (Take them to the top of Turkey and bring them European glory.)
Luton Town (Although I haven't done alot of LLM before, the chance to survive imminent relegation actually appeals to me and then to fire them into the Premiership.
Leeds United (Basically, I'd love to see Leeds in the Premiership again, and more importantly, taken over by someone other than that lunatic known as Ken Bates.
Zenit St Petersberg (They seem like an interesting prospect, given their sucess in Europe and their huge bank account.
Hull City (I have been captivated by Hull's brilliant story and never say die attitude this season and would hate to see them do poorly on FM.
As you can see there, half the clubs I have chosen, have big potential to do well, but have not gone to the next level, while the other Luton and Leeds are much more difficult options, given their lower status. At this stage I'm leaning towards transferring hull into an EPL powerhouse. And the prospect of them just really appeals to me as a whole, however I'm open to all suggestions
When will it start? At the moment, I have got a problem with my disk drive, which should be fixed within a few weeks, but as soon as it has been fixed and if there's enough intrest, I will begin!
Any comments and idea's welcome and highly appreciated
Pluckaduck
Sounds Great Pluka, Will the decisions be done by majority wins or by what is in your oppinion, the best idea.
Hard to say really. If the majority of the assistants want me to spend 60 million on Stewart Downing but I think it's a much better option to buy Marcelo for 5 million, then I'll probably overule. But in most cases I'd probably go with my trusty assistants.
Not really my cup of tea but it looks like a good idea. One thing though, wasn't a similiar idea shot down in flames quite recently a page or two back?
Anymore advice or comments?
I think you should set a certain time when you play the game so that your assistants know when to be online, otherwise it could get tedious.
It's not really a mid-match come and request help sort of thing, More me playing a game with general guidence and assistance from the forum.
Yes but what I mean is you would get more responses if people knew when you were going to play the save because they'd know when to go on rather than you having possibly 1 person online making the decisions with you.
This idea I had was a few ideas rolled into one.
Basically, I want too see if the AI manager could do what some human managers can do. Take a lower league team to the top flight, and glory. But I also wanted to change every team in Englands youth facilities + training to 20, then holiday until 2014, add myself as England manager, then see what happens with regens, etc.
I'm not sure if I am going to do this but your opinions are welcome.
The second one would be interesting, not so sure about the 1st tbh.
MarkTrevor, the second idea looks good!
Corinthion, I love the agents sign-up idea and check your inbox!
Can't wait for the 12th of December. It's like Christmas all over again.
What is the status of the monthly challenges? Are they going to be started? It was a good idea last time and I'd like to take part in a couple this time.
What is it?
The Patriot Challenge is going to be a challenge where the player aims for MLS and/or International glory. The player will have his choice of an MLS team. The player will then have the option to try and get to a job with a national team all while keeping his original job in the MLS. (Please note, the player will have to win the MLS Championship at least once or finish runner up at least three times to go to the national level)
How do I win?
The player can win by doing one of the following:
- Winning a World Cup
- Winning the MLS 7 times
- Winning the MLS 5 times in a row
And if i lose?
If you somehow are unfortuunate enough to get fired from your job, you'll have to start the challenge over. No Exceptions. Except for you, Chewbacca.
I won't take part at all as I despise the MLS but I know that certain people (nudges rancer) are addicted to it so you could get a couple of people in.
I'd be interested in the MLS one but not right away. I still need to go check out the MLS in 09 actually.
Well i wasn't expecting the biggest crowd so...
(awakes from a deep sleep after being nudged by roberto) AN MLS CHALLENGE!![]()
Count me in!(when I get WWSM09 this month)
Like I said...![]()
Rancer, do you know what you've done? You made me happy.![]()
I'm happy just thinking about this challenge.
My longest championship streak in MLS is 3 years, but I only play in the MLS for 3 years at a time.
You've made me giddy already about the 2009 MLS season.
Maybe you should try to get an american into this as well. Maybe spartans5 or roversawh7...
calm down rancer.
The initial excitement about this challenge has officially passed...
Anyways, Bubba22plus, can't wait to start your challenge.![]()
You've got an unhealthy interest in the MLS rancerIt can't be that good. Will you be Toronto?
I've tried MLS management in the past, never really enjoyed it. Something to do with the draft system and salary caps, where I can't actually register all my best players
But good luck to anyone that tries it.

Looks like a good challenge Bubba and I may try it.
No promises though
I won back to back titles win FC Dallas on 08. Never really understood the draft system though.
MLS is so confusing.
Rancer, now that you mention it I have to try the MLS challenge, probably as the Red Bulls as I am a New Yorker.
Walcott's I was wondering if I might do your Euro Striker Sign-Up this year since you have your own fantastic sign-up coming up soon. Only because I am itching to track player's progress as well.
That will in no way effect my other sign-up for those concerned.
Ummm, I'll let you do as long as you...
1) Don't start before I've finished my final season, which you've already intimated.
2) Don't think doing updates for 53 people won't impede on your time or your existing sign up. (It takes min about an hour per update).
3) Are prepared to do it for at least 5 seasons.
If yes to all 3, then by all means go for it and good luck.![]()
![]()
1) I won't start until you finish your final season, but may I put the sign-up page up ASAP?
2) I know it will impede my time, but I have enough now and will during December and then during spring semester as well.
3) I am prepared to do this until the players retire and will track their managerial careers as well if they choose.
Is this the Eurovision you're talking about?
Yes it is, Roberto
Reserve me a place then![]()
Alright, thanks Walcott's, and I hope that you would join it.
In light of the positive responses for my challenge, I have decided to give it a try.
If you sign up for the post i that i create soon, i'll give you DOUBLE the offer! Not only will you get a challenge, But a database with a player made for the first 14 to signup! So come on! You've got nothing to lose! Try my challenge.Originally Posted by Billie Mays
