They weren't a bad team with quite a big Reputation compared to the other available teams!![]()
Managing in South America in the long term is something I've never got round to doing, perhaps I'll do it with FM09.
I was thinking the same. I'll either do the 'small club to big club' challenge or I'll try to get a career going around the different available countries (maybe a 'South American career thread could be set up if there's enough interest).
Btw dafuge, the discussion over club threads and career threads seems to have gone quiet. Have you and the mod from GPTG (Cleon was it?) had any further ideas about it?
I don't think anything will be happening.
I'm still hoping that the cross forum short term challenges will go ahead though.
Match of the Day inspired me to this...
The Hull City Challenge
The name is a bit misleading as you don't have to be Hull City to do this...
Take a team who are bottom of League 2 and within ten years be at least joint top of the Premiership at the end of October....
It'd be tough... but that's the point, isn't it??
not sure about the 'october' bit, but you could adapt it to where Hull finish this season.
Another thing is you could sort of have it so, not neccessarily within 10 years, but say, have a race to who can do it quickest?
just a couple of ideas though, and good initial concept![]()
I was thinking about a challenge request thread. There is the guide to the challenges, but as that isn't posted in, it would disappear from the front page rather quickly meaning those people who don't bother to read the forum sticky won't find it, and end up starting a new thread saying 'I want a challenge' (or, even worse, 'i want a challenge').
How about a challenge request thread? Started with a link to the challenges guide, but then if anyone wants a particular type of challenge, they post their request in there. If such a challenge already exists, someone comes along and directs them to it. If it doesn't, it could be seen as an idea if someone wants to create a new challenge. What are people's thoughts?

I've found recently a lot of people saying 'I want a challenge' but wouldn't the ideal solution be to have the guide to the challenges as a sticky?
Yes - and have someone keep it a bit more up to date...
If there's a challenge you want added to the guide to the challenges you need to PM dafuge about it...same as if you want a sign-up added to the guide to the sign-ups you need to PM me about it.
Of course stickying the guide to the challenges is an option - but what if said challenge isn't out there? It would be nice to make it more user-friendly, particularly new-user-friendly, in that someone can enter the requests thread and simply ask for a type of challenge.
dafuge, what are your thoughts on the Challenge Requests thread?
I think canvey!! was implying it would be a sticky
I might do: I'll gauge some more reactions first.
And that's true about reading the welcome thread. There isn't really much you can do about that, I suppose. Getting ultra-strict on that might help, but that isn't a direction we want to take.
Apologies, I wasn't. I was thinking that with the number of requests to keep it afloat, it wouldn't need to be a sticky.
dafuge - not trying to have a go or anything, it's just that as it's not a sticky, noone knows about it to be requested (if that makes any sense)
tbh, though, ignorance isn't an excuse. If people don't read the welcome sticky, and subsequently don't know about the guide, it is their loss as they won't get into the guide.
It's linked within the sticky thread.
It was better before when I could edit the forum header but with the new forum software this looks like the best way of doing it. It's not ideal but I think it's better than having loads of stickies, that just annoys me when I have to scroll down to see the actual threads that have been posted in.
Too true, there are presently 9 in the GQ Forum and it's awful; you really have to scroll down to take a look at the threads.
I just use the archives for looking for new threads, much easier tbh.
How about we have another demo challenge like we did with Barrow on the 08 demo?
Will keep people interested for the next 2 weeks.
Good ideaany ideas?
a Hull challenge would be popular I imagine
Isn't it enough of a challenge getting the demo in the first place? Is for me anyway![]()
How about something with the Three Newly promoted teams? like being top by Christmas
PS. I downloaded the Vanilla Demo because it was a lot smaller, and I am seriously loving it like nothing else, I just hope that NZ release is not too delayed cause that would suck or I might have to get it online :P
I think Luton would be a wise choice for a challenge, starting on -30 and all.
I'm sure some brainy soul could come up with a decent challenge for them.
http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=54705 not very well set out mind.
Well, you guys can always setup a challenge in Indonesia.
I just finished downloading the demo and now installing.![]()
How about one to topple the Old Firm? I think it'd be best to do the challenges in either Scotland or England as they are in both demos
Or maybe a challenge in South America or Scandinavia...but I think roberto's idea is a good one.![]()
Well I just set one up in England, but can pretty much be completed in any League on the demo if someone wants too
Promotion Celebrations
I will be doing a collect trophies from around the world challenge and a get a player to play 1000 games or score 1000 goals challenge? Anyone interested and what are your thoughts/suggestions?
that's already a challenge iirc
Which one is already a challenge? The 1000 goal challenge is good I think because people can if they want run it with another challenge.
The 1000 goal challenge is. It's either the Danny Roberts or Paul Wallace challenge, can't remember which one.
Wasn't it the Pele challenge?
And Wallace completed it
Ha HA. was just thinking about redoing the south american challenge for FM09 and then come on here and see Razer is planning on doing it. saved me doing some work for it i guess....
Don't how I thought of this, but was messing about on youtube and suddenly thought of a potentially cracking idea for a sign up for FM09 (although yet another around a TV show however!)
First of all, any contestants would have to answer the following questions to see if they fit the bill:
Do you have the will.... and the skill?
Do you have the speed?..
the stength?..
and the heart to beat a..... Gladiator!!!!
Oh yes, it's the turn of the CSE forum to take on the challenge and see whether they have the power to beat the Gladiators!
The idea is that people (probably 16 or 32 people) would sign up all as midfielders (best as you would need to be an all rounder to compete in the events) and would be drawn against another forumer each round, with the winner going on to the next round.
A knockout format being followed, with a contest against each other would last the course of the season, and a 'series of events' being created for people to do battle over. Each event would score players points which would give them an advantage for the end of season 'eliminator' course which would decide who progresses to the next round!
The Gladiators would be in the form of AI players and I would take on the role of mentoring them. My aim would of course be to batter the contestants (yourself).
If people like the idea, I don't mind someone else running this sign up and I would be willing to offer tips as to how it would run.
What do people think.... do you think you have the power to beat the Gladiators?!![]()
WW:
I like it, nay, love it! There's obviously still work to be done on the details as it's such a grand project - but it sounds great fun. I assume this isn't related to the one you were talking about earlier involving captains?
BTW, was it me who started this craze about sign-ups being based on TV shows? I think elimination sign-ups are much more fun than bog-standard "let's see how the team do" sign-ups.
Depends if you can my Eurovision sign up as being styled on a TV show?! :Plol
Oh yeah, its still a very rough idea - only came up with it a very short time ago.
No it isn't the sign up I had in planning and to be honest I'm more than willing to let someone else do something based on my Gladiators idea.
I still like the 'follow a club / player' sign ups, I think you just need a decent enough idea to have a good sign up.
There is a certain trend at the moment to have TV style sign ups.... I blame reality TV![]()

Is that my Championships you're talking about? It's gonna be the World Cup this time and they will be monthly this time![]()
basically it revolved around clubs that play in different countries leagues to where they are situated... such as Cardiff, Monaco, Wrexham, San Marino (though i wouldn't do them because of Ter's challenge) etc. seeing if they can conquor that countries' league - that kind of thing.
only thing would be the differing level of difficulty depending on the club.... although i guess would be good for differing levels of gameplaying experience.
there, that's it!!![]()
if a few of you reckon that my challenge has potential as a challenge, i think i might go for it... let me know what you think (positive and negative) as i want to get it right if i do launch it.
thanks.
i think it sounds like a good idea. Only problem is what you have spotted being the various different levels these clubs are at because it would be much easier to complete with cardiff and wales than the two san marinos
you're right, it would and i do recognise this. The way i see it is that it MAY draw in a few players who fancy playing a challenge game that might take say 10 years to complete in addition to those that like a real good long career game of 30 years+. The different levels of quality in the clubs, say from Monaco in France to Wrexham in Wales adds different levels of difficulty to the game. and then their is the matter of international management as most of the countries are a long way down the FIFA rankings...
more comments please!
Sounds like a brilliant idea rlipscombe, what would the 15-20 clubs be?
I think that there being different levels of difficulty is a good thing as it will attract all sorts of players and offer very different types of games!
the clubs i believe that are playable are Albirex Niigata, Berwick Rangers, Cardiff City, DPMM FC, Dalian Shide Siwu, Derry City, Lanwa FC, Monaco, The New Saints, Newport County, Super Reds FC, Swansea City, Toronto FC, FC Vaduz, Wellington Phoenix and Wrexham. Merthyr Tydfil & USV Eschen/Mauren are also playable if they gain promotion from the respective leagues below (although this then iminges on Gundo's and Dafuge's challenges...) i have left San Marino off the list as there is an existing challenge for them.
quite a few of the teams are Asian teams although there are also English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, French, American and Australian games to be played...
I'd do it and have a go with Toronto although what league do Albirex Niigata play in?
straight from Wikipedia....
"Albirex Niigata FC (Singapore) is a soccer club which plays in Singapore's S.League. The club is a satellite team of Albirex Niigata of Japan, and its players come from Japan.
The club joined the S.League in 2004, and has succeeded in winning over the local Japanese community in Singapore, and has also attracted praise from the local media for their professional approach to running a football club."
Hmph, it's a challenge for me to get through a month on MLSTerrible league *shudders*
i've had a couple of gos previously as well and it's a lot to get you're head around. SI have supposedly improved it though this season...
Right some advice please.
I'm thinking of basing a sign up in the french league ( not that it really matters which league) It's going to use 10 teams. Would I be best to use the top 10 clubs, the bottom 10 clubs or the middle 10?
wouldn't you be best just to make new teams?
Unless you have to have 10 teams, I would suggest filling up a small league with your teams, as this will mean there won't be any AI teams. Although, I may be wrong.
Use what PaulHartman said or just edit all of the current teams.
Just to tell you guys, I have just launched my 1000 goal challenge.
Tell me what you think.
Sorry I didn't make it very clear. It isn't a team based sign up
, it's a player based sign up
oh.
use the top 10 then imo
Early shout for an idea of a new award in next year's Forum Awards:
Most OTT post of the year

Fantastic post that, wp sire.
I went a bit OTT with one of my posts in the All American Managerial Contest

I thought I was never gonna find out who had 12 points then!![]()
I like the Hull city challenge![]()
Nothin like a bit of Arse licking
dafuge, the legendary moderator
Double post
but...
canvey!!'s super-dooper first ever challenge (working title) will be posted tomorrow\o/
No doubt it'll be good.
I like it. I think you should go with that as the actual title.
Depending on if I'm out or not tomorrow night, my challenge will be up either tomorrow or on Saturday morning.
Slight addition to it now, after some discussion with Rancer, I'm going to add MLS into it too, making it a Small Club to Big Club Americas challenge, unconfirmed title though.
Well considering the fact that the Americas are now one continent that would certainly make sense.
Yes, you CSE-ers can now challenge yourself to MLS in FM09!
Oh, and there will be some changes to my challenge, tentatively titled rancer890's small club to big club Asian and African challenge.
Think all the continents are now playable as a challenge, unless there's an Antarctica football league hiding somewhere.![]()
Africas always been playable...
No, they simply are described as a single continent
One little bit of proof: http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/continents.htm
I'm basically going by what the historian said in the Mexican museum
A few different ways to distinguish the continentsWiki
I will forever consider myself a North America and Canadian.
And calling myself an American would sound weird.![]()
