The difference is due to your reputation within the game. If you start unemployed Sunday league/automatic will get you a job at the lowest level selected, whereas an International footballer set would likely leave you with a good chance of premiership level team. The big difference when you start at a team is that the AI entities in the game will act differently, e.g. it would be a lot harder to sign Milevskiy if you were Man Utd manager on Sunday league rep and his wage demands would be inflated, compared to a professional or international rep maanger.

the higher your starting rep the higher the chance is you'll get a better job offer

start as automatic for the most realistic though
