Stupid Comebacks

Not quite on that level but remember this:

Aston Villa vs Leicester City

February 22, 1995This Midlands derby was given an even sharper edge as it was also a relegation dogfight. Villa – title contenders just two years before – had slipped into the mire while newly promoted Leicester had been in trouble all season.

Ron Atkinson’s ageing side raced into a three-goal lead thanks to Dean Saunders, Steve Staunton and Dwight Yorke by the hour mark. Even when Mark Robins got one back for the Foxes, Tommy Johnson quickly made it 4-1.

But Leicester were to manage an amazing comeback in the final 12 minutes, with goals from David Lowe (2) and Iwan Roberts earning them a point. But it was not enough to save Mark McGee’s side, while Villa narrowly avoided being relegated alongside them.

As a City fan I'll always remember Bristol City v Mansfield for the ultimate comeback. 4-2 down with minutes left and coming back to win 5-4. I was supposed to be going but cried off with a hangover!!

Bet you regret that...

Being a massive fan of Manchester City i remember the FA Cup 4th round against spurs. 3-0 down at half-time and a player down plus our best striker(Anelka) had walked off the pitch with an 'injury' and we bagged 4 in the second half the final coming in the dying seconds.

Also seem to remember the Bochum Vs Bayern game in the 70s. Bayern 4-0 down with 30 mins to play bring it back to 5-4 then Bochum score to make it 5-5 before bayern bag a late, late winner.

Everton needed a win in 1994, otherwise they'd be relegated. Nothing less would do.

"After forty years in the top flight Everton were staring relegation squarely in the face as they went into this final day clash with Wimbledon.

After three minutes Everton suffered the worst possible start. Wimbledon won a corner from which Gary Elkins delivered a tame looking centre towards the near post. Anders Limpar betrayed the nerves of all Evertonians by thrusting out a needless arm to block and although Neville Southall got a hand to Dean Holdsworth's low spot kick the ball slipped into the bottom corner and Everton were behind.

On twenty minutes the visitors increased their lead and again it was disastrous defending which handed them their goal. Dave Watson and David Unsworth collided as they both went to clear a centre and when Andy Clarke poked the resultant chance across the face of goal Gary Ablett sliced a horrible attempted clearance into his own goal.

Two goals down and performing abjectly Everton's fate looked sealed. "

...

However!

Graham Stuart (Pen), Barry Horne scoring a 30 yard screamer (his first goal of the season!) and a dodgy Cottee winner (cheers Hans Segers you crooked git ^^) means Everton won 3-2 and stayed up.

IMO, a bigger comeback even than the infamous Istanbul one that the "red side" pulled off.

Course it was.

Everton were at home, Segars as you initmated may have been bought and you were only 2-0 down to Wimbledon.
