FOOTBALL MANAGER 2010 FAQ

We’ve taken the time here at Sports Interactive, along with SEGA, to create an FAQ to try and help you with any issues you may encounter. What we’ve tried to do this year is to make sure we don’t have numerous links for different issues. We want all the available information accessible from the same place.

The main FAQ with pictures can be found on SEGA’s website via the following links:

PC - http://help.sega.com/index.php?_m=kn...pcid=6&nav=0,6

MAC - http://help.sega.com/index.php?_m=kn...pcid=5&nav=0,5

We’ve also posted the same information below for those of you who don’t like to leave the SI forums!

Patch

Since the game first came out we have released two main patches to help with certain issues and bugs found in the game. Please make sure you are running the latest version of the game. If you are running via Steam this will do so automatically, for anyone running via DVD or digital download, the most up-to-date patches can be found here:

10.3 Patch

STEAM Issues

We've got a big Steam FAQ thread helpfully created by user Aim_Less for us - this can be found here - http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=156429

If you have any other issues not answered here, please use our Technical Support Forums for assistance. They can be found at the following link:

http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=161

Likewise if you think you’ve come across a bug of any kind, please post the information in our bugs forum in the relevant place. This can be found via the link below:

http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=157

For people wanting information about the new Editor which comes with the game, we’ve created a FAQ in the Editors Forum. This can be found via the link shown below:

http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=152004

Thanks,

The Sports Interactive Team

Activation

Football Manager 2010 has two installation delivery options; STEAM or Offline.

- STEAM requires internet access but not the game DVD. It installs patches and data updates automatically. You can also install via STEAM using a DVD copy of the game if you so wish.

*To Recieve automatic updates via STEAM you must make sure you have chosen to "Always keep this game up to date" in the properties menu for FM 2010.

- The offline system does not require internet access but you need to have the DVD in the DVD drive at all times to play the game.

* If at the installation stage an internet connection cannot be detected by default the game will install via offline system.

My computer will not read my DVD disc

Please make sure your DVD is free from dust and smudges. If the disc has become dirty clean with a soft dry cloth until the surface of the disc is clear. To do this wipe from the inside of the disc to the outside, do not clean the disc in a circular motion this can damage your disc.

Also please make sure you practice routine maintainence on your DVD drive. A commercially avaialble lens cleaner will help keep your DVD drive in top condition.

If you have followed the advice above yet you still have a problem then you can download the game in Steam without using the disc using the game code you have from your purchased game.

- Download the Steam client - http://store.steampowered.com/about/

- Install Steam on your computer

- Once installed, open up Steam

- Go to My Games

- Go to Activate a product on Steam

- Enter your Activation Code found on the back of the manual.

- Steam should now download your game.

After Launching via Steam I get an error message saying "football manager 2010 10.1.0f84847 has stopped working" or the game fails to Launch

The most common fix for the game failing to launch is that you need to verify your skin cache. To do so, right click on the FM10 icon and then select:

Properties -> Local files -> Verify integrity of game cache.

Then you should update your DirectX, download and install from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

This should solve the issue.

When launching the game you receive the following Error: “FM.exe application error. The application has failed to initialize correctly (0xC0150002). Click on OK to stop the application.”

This can be resolved by updating DirectX and the Microsoft Dot.Net framework, please visit the following URL to download these:

DirectX:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

.NET Framework:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I Get Error S1001 When attempting to Install Microsoft Direct X SDK

Make sure you DO NOT have Steam running when attempting to install this file, as it corrupts the install.

You are receiving the error: ‘This application has failed to start because saAuditMD.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem’

Please download the following file

http://downloads.sigames.com/download/saAuditMD.zip

After you have downloaded, unzip the file saAuditMD.dll and place in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010

You are receiving the error: This application has failed to start because saAuditMT2005.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix the problem'

In this case, go to the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010

Then rename the saAuditMT.dll file to saAuditMT2005.dll and this should resolve the issue.

I've tried the solutions above and am getting a “saAuditMD.dll missing” error.

This error often occurs because people copy or cut their FM.exe directly to the desktop

Do not do this, always create a 'shortcut' and cut that to your desktop

To create a desktop shortcut

1. Navigate to the FM10 installation folder (C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2010)

2. Right click on the FM10.exe icon

3. Choose Send to Desktop (create shortcut)

Note the Steam install can be found at this location:

C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2010

I’m getting an Install Anywhere Error / Any other installation errors.

First try deleting the Cache files and running the game. If it has not installed properly then try the following.

1: Go through a complete uninstall.

2: Make sure your disc is clean and free of surface dust/scratches.

3: Try to install the game again to a standard Hard Drive (not an external hard drive or USB key) to the default location.

Once you have installed the game try running it as normal. If this has not worked then post on the Technical Support forums with your Dxdiag details.

How do I get Dxdiag details?

To find this go to your start menu, then do the following:

You can find this by going to Start -> Run -> Type Dxdiag

Then click 'Save All Information' and you can save the information as a text file

I cannot find the Football Manager 2010 shortcut to launch the game?

Microsoft Windows Vista and the “Games For Windows” scheme handles installation differently to previous versions of the Windows operating system. The game information is stored in the “Games Explorer” which is a new feature of Microsoft Windows Vista.

It is completely normal for no game shortcuts to be placed on the Desktop or within the Start Menu.

To find the Football Manager 2010 shortcut on Microsoft Windows Vista you need to browse to the Games Explorer.

Because there are different versions of Vista, including Vista Home, Vista Premium, Vista Ultimate, etc, the Games Explorer may be found in different locations, this also depends on whether you're using the Classic Start Menu or not.

The most common locations for the Windows Games Explorer include:

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “Games”

Or

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “All Programs”

3: Click “Games”

4: Click “Games Explorer”

Alternatively you can search for Games Explorer by doing the following:

1: Click “Start”

2: Click inside the “Search” box

3: Type “Games Explorer”

4: Select “Games Explorer” when it appears and it should open.

You can also manually browse to where Football Manager 2010 is installed on your system and run the game from there. The default location is:

C:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2010

In here you will see the game executable which is called “FM.exe” or simply “FM” if you are not viewing file extensions. You can create a shortcut to this file by right clicking the “FM.exe” file and selecting “Create Shortcut” you can then copy this shortcut to wherever you wish to move it.

White & Black Screen Issues

There are three probable causes for you getting a white or black frozen screen upon starting the game.

The First reason could be that your Cache files have become corrupted and deleting them will fix the issue.

To do this follow either of these paths depending on your Operating System.

Windows XP:

C:\Users\<User Name\App Data\

Vista and Windows 7:

C:\Users\<User Name>\App Data\Roaming

Once you can see inside those folders delete the Sports Interactive Folder.

If you can’t see those folders you will have to make “Hidden” files viewable.

For Vista and Windows 7:

In a window, go to 'Organize'->'Folder and Search Options'->'View'-> and select 'Show hidden files and folders'.

For XP:

Make sure you are able to see hidden folders:

When in a window, go to 'Tools'->'Folder Options'->'View'-> and make sure 'Show hidden files and folders' is selected.

Also some users have reported getting around the 'Black Screen' issue by creating a new account on their version of Windows and starting the game through this user. We suggest doing so if the above advice does not work for you.

I have an SiS Graphics Card and it won't work:

We had large issues with these cards for FM2009, however since then there has been a solution.

If you update the drivers to VGA5.18 - http://majorgeeks.com/SiS_UniVGA5_Graphics_d5611.html (which was released in July this year),

turn the detail in game down to ‘Low’ and we suggest slowing the match speed down to one notch under half-way.

I'm getting a message that says: "Direct Sound error -2004287480" when entering a match.

First ensure both your sound card drivers and Direct X are up to date.

Sound drivers for your system can be found on your system manufacturers website, some of the most recognisable are listed below:

Asus

http://www.asus.com/entryflash.htm

Compaq

http://www.compaq.com/country/index.html

Dell

http://www.dell.com

Hewitt Packard

http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/cs/home.html

LG

http://www.lg.com/index.jsp

Packard Bell

http://www.packardbell.com/

Sony

http://www.sony.net/index.html?tID=worldmap

If you cannot find them here, it may be worth checking your dxdiag for your sound devices and searching for said device via any internet search engine.

You can find your dxdiag by doing the following:

Go to Start -> Run -> Type Dxdiag

Your Direct X can be updated via:

Web installer - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Or

Full distributable - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If after updating your drivers you still receive the error message, disable in game sound.

To disable sound:

- Go to the Preferences screen ('Options' -> 'Preferences').

- Go to the 'Display & Sound' section.

- In the 'Sound Settings' area, deselect 'Play Sounds' and confirm your changes.

In the preferences it says my graphics card is five-star, yet the match engine is running jerky - what's going on?

We’re aware of an issue in regards to the star system which doesn't always show correctly - we would suggest if you find 3D is running jerky to put it on the lowest setting and try running the game without the crowd loaded.

I can't play the game due to an XML parsing error

If you encounter the following:

Invalid Token XML parsing error

Try deleting the Settings folder from the following program path as detailed below:

First of all you need to turn on the hidden files and folders:

XP

My Computer

'Tools'

'Folder Options'.

The go to the 'View' tab and select 'Show hidden files and folders'

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

My Computer

'Organize'

'Folder and Search Options'.

The go to the 'View' tab and select 'Show hidden files and folders':

- Windows XP:

My Computer -> Local Disk (C: -> Documents and Settings -> <username> -> Application Data -> Sports Interactive -> Football Manager 2010 -> Settings

- Windows Vista / Windows 7:

Computer -> Local Disk (C: -> Users -> <username> -> AppData -> Roaming -> Sports Interactive -> Football Manager 2010 -> Settings

Please note saved progress may be lost.

Once deleted restart your computer and try launching the game again.

If you are unable to locate the folders please ensure that hidden folders are enabled as detailed below:

- Click on Start

- Select Control Panel

- Select Folder Options*

- Select View

- Select Show Hidden files and folders

*If Folder Options is not shown:

Windows XP/Vista : Select Classic View from the Control Panel.

Windows 7 : Select Large Icons from View By

'not well informed (invalid token) at line 1 of profile. '

It means one of your 'Profiles' has been corrupted. Shut down FM, delete the cache files and this should solve this issue (but you'll also lose stored profiles that are selectable from the drop down menu when you start a new game).

Details on how to delete your cache files can be found below.

"not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of last_saved_game.xml"

The game says it cannot be loaded

This can sometimes be resolved it by defragmenting the hard drive.

Open and run Disk Defragmenter by doing the following:

Windows XP

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “My Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2010 installation.

4: Go to “Tools”

5: Click “Defragment Now”

6: Click “Anylise”

7: Click “Report” – Check to see if the saved game that is not loading is listed as having missing fragments.

If it does have missing fragments then move the save to an external source (USB Memory Key, External Hard Drive) and try loading the game fro there. If the game works from the external source then running a full Defrag on the Drive should allow you to load it again. If not then your game is probably corrupted.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

1: Click “Start”

2: Click “Computer”

3: Right Click the local Disk that contains the FM2010 installation.

4: Select “Preferences”

5: Select “Tools”

6: Select “Check Disk”

7: Select “Start”

If the Save Game was showing any missing fragments then try to load the game again as Check Disk would have attempted to fix the problem. If that does not work follow the steps from Windows XP. Copy the file to an external source and attempt to run it from there. If successful defrag the Hard Disk and then try again.

How to Update your Graphics Drivers

This depends on your graphics drivers.

Some Computer manufacturers insist you download drivers from their own sites. Please refer to the website of your computer manufacturer before reporting issues with graphics drivers.

To verify your PCs graphics card chipset:

From the Windows desktop:

- Click Start

- Click Run

- Type DXDIAG in the Open field

- Click OK

This will launch the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Click on the Display and Sound tabs. The upper left box headed ‘Devices’ shows the make and model of card; the right box headed ‘Drivers’ shows the driver version number.

Here are the websites of the largest graphics cards and chipset manufacturers:

Nvidia (Gforce/Legacy)

http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

ATI (Radeon)

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Intel (Onboard Chipsets)

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

There are other manufacturers of graphics card drivers. If you can not find drivers for these cards they may have been discontinued. Please ask in this case as we may still be able to help.
