Default The FM10 Danny Roberts Challenge

FM10's Version of The Danny Roberts Challenge.

FM08's "The Danny Roberts Challenge : Difficulty GODLIKE (Part 2)"
FM09's "The Danny Roberts Challenge : Difficulty GODLIKE (Part 3)"

The main idea behind the Danny Roberts challenge, is to have 1 player score 1,000 goals for club and country under your management. There are no rules as to how you attain the player, although the editor MUST NOT be used. Season reports of potential challengers are encouraged.

During the past 3 incarnations of the game, a fair few players (Around 10 I think) have gone on to achieve the feat of scoring 1,000 + goals. It is widely known that Roberts is regarded as the most amazing player of all to achieve the landmark, due to the fact he scored all 1,000+ club goals in the Premiership under the management of dafuge.

Alongside Roberts, Andrew Smylie has made quite a name for himself in scoreing currently 2,860 goals for Knockbreda.

Feel free to enter in as many as possible, and we'll keep more of a track of the entries and goals in this thread, and compile some top 10's as the thread progresses.

As far as I know, there were no players that completed the challenge in FM09 (although I know some are close, and still going) - but FM08 was ripe with 1,000 goal scorers.

    Challenge Rules :

This challenge can be attempted while playing any other challenges. So those of you having a crack at Gundo's, Rancers, canvey!!'s or dafuge's Challenge that come across a fantastic prospect for this challenge, feel free to come in and post your updates.

Use of an EDITOR is not permitted, unless the use is ONLY for league editing. Should there be any potential evidence to assume foul play with regards to this rule, the rule will be revoked, and no editing will be allowed. Please don't take ruin this for others by cheating.

Any player involved in this challenge MUST score the goals under human management. Therefore, if you have Player A and Club X and he scores 500 goals, then you move clubs, the player only has 500 goals towards the tally. If you buy the player and take him with you, and he scores 500 more, this will make his 1,000. If you do not buy him and he scores 500 more, this DOES NOT count towards the Challenge Tally and must not be added into final totals.

International Goals count either under Human, OR AI management.

    Friendly International Goals DO Count.

Friendly Club Goals DO NOT Count.

    Screenshots are encouraged where possible.

    The 1,000 Goal Club :

    Intro :

The 1,000 goal club is for those exclusive players that manage to reach the 1,000 goal mark in any FM game. These players will be carried forward through each rendition, and will be updated as new players, from new versions get inducted into this.

There are 2 players for sure that are missing from this list. First, the amazing Danny Roberts. Hopefully daf can dig up every picture he has left, and gives me some exact figures so I can add him in here. Also from FM06, is Gareth Black (also managed by me). I have all of his screenies on Photobucket. I'll update him later.

    FM10's Top Ten Scorers :
    N/A

    (Example)

    John Doe : 479 Goals
    Joe Bloggs : 430 Goals
    Paul Smith : 299 Goals

    All Time Top Scorers :

    1. Paul Spence - 3,161 Goals
    2. Andrew Smylie - 3,145 Goals
    3. Kerrison - 1,946 Goals
    4. Chris Higgins - 1,922
    5. Josef Svec - 1,233 Goals
    6. Danny Roberts - 1,089 Goals*
    7. Paul Wallace - 1,073 Goals
    8. Frank Dunlop - 1,071 Goals
    9. Dean Evans - 1,049 Goals
    10. Gareth Black - 1,034 Goals
    11. Bernard Brennan - 1,028 Goals
    12. Oswaldo Even - 654 Goals

    * Danny Roberts had all of his information lost in the forum purge last year. dafuge remembers his final total to be 1,089, which I have no reason to disbelieve. The screen shot provided, is the only screen shot left of Roberts, and will have to be enough for those of you that are interested.

I love these kind of challenges. I had a guy on 08 called Paul Taylor, 862 goals in 991 appearances. Great player, played at every level of the English system with me. Then was a coach for 18 years and eventually my ass man. I loved that bloke. Shame his career ended somewhat prematurely, he would have easily reached 1000 goals if his injury proneness wasn't so high.

    Got another one for you:

    Oswaldo Even - 612 Goals

Here's a proof shot - he played quite a few games on the wing last season but I've no idea why here's there in that team.

Ahh, he is for your dartford game. Do you have any more screeneis than that? If they're in the updates on your Career Thread, then I'll get them myself and do your FM09 Danny Roberts Challenge for you. (I've got a couple spare hours now, so getting this done )

If not, then I'll just have to use those two.

What other shots are you after?

There's probably a yearly profile picture of him in my career thread and I could take a year by year set of history shots if that's any good?

Just found this as well, no screenshots though

I think he would have made the 1000 mark had he not left the club

No Screen Shot at all = No entry. Sorry.

I have all the Screenies I need for Even. I can do the Danny Roberts challenge post on your behalf, if you want? Ideally, I'd like it in the same manner as Smylies, so that I can link the end career stats to the name, and not just a random post.

Also, this means you can't delete the screen shots for the players.

(I've actually already thought about this, and will download every screen for every player involved, and put them on my external HD, incase they get lost in cyber space.

I thought that was the case with the screenshots. I regularly have to delete my screenshots, so I only tend to keep the recent ones. I hit the photobucket limit this week

That would be great if you could do Even's page in the same style, although at only 612 goals he's going to always be at the bottom since I've finished that game now.

Yeah. It looks like you've greyed out text between the date, and your name / club, underneath the players name.

I see what you mean now. It is just where the black on white text causes a bit of colour bleeding around the text due to the lower quality of the JPEG. It is the same on every screenshot I've taken. It was really bad on the Softies screenshots.

Sorry no screenshot, wish I had taken one though. Guess I will have to make another entry later on with an even more prolific striker. I always get one guy close. It is just how many goals he will score really.

I'm still going to be continuing with my FM09 FC United save, so Brennan should make it 8 official completions

You may have to wait a while, but i'll keep plodding along to the magical mark

I don't care if someone else has completed it before me, it's the fact that i'm probably going to get there in the end that spurs me on

Uninstalled my game two days ago, and deleted the save files I had used, and all PKMs, so as far as the world is concerned, Paul Taylor never even existed...

Tell Smilie to watch out. My super regens are gunning for him...

In fact, your save was the last save I ever played on 08. Played 3 matches, won them all without conceding a goal and scoring 18. So these unreal scoring feats are perfectly understandable.

Only played a handful of games, but it was interesting to have a play and see how you approach things.

I'll be hoping to get another contender at some point on FM10. Given how much faster it processes, should fly through the seasons and eventually find a regen on par with Keirrison. Who will, when Nep updates it next time, will go in at #2 on that all time list at the age of 35.

Pity I'll never see how it all panned out with FM10 being mine tomorrow. But Keirrison will be mine on that game at some point lol.

The forums have gone a bit wierd today, it's because of the launch of the new game and there are too many people on here at once!

Jesus Christ, the man is a beast. Hope he makes it now. I have just discovered the goalscoring talents of a player called Paul Gordon... Will update you at the end of the season.

EDIT: 56 goals minus friendlies. Not a bad return.

Just an update about Paul Gordon:

67 goals in 35 matches with 1 substitute appearance. But the bad news is underneath the contract info. Chairman accepted the offer without asking me. So my two best strikers are going to Bohemians and Celtic respectively.

I'm further than him by a few months, although I'm doing the dafuge challenge so holidayed a season. On topic though, I have a young striker who seems quite good. He'll get 100 goals for me. If I'm lucky

I still have Paul Gordon playing for me for the first half of the season so far... But he should get about 130 goals in his career for me. I hope to buy him back when St. Blazey are in the prem!

Currently doing Roberto922's challenge, which is just an extended version of dafuge's challenge. Started at level 10, now at level 8. And looking good for another promotion push.

Bought Keirrison after his loan spell at Benfica finished, first season he ended having played 43 and scoring 32.

It's a shame Ronaldo isn't like 16 at the start of this game, he scored almost 60 in 2 seasons as a relatively old, past it player, with 20 finishing 20 composure he would have been a good shout for it this year. Keirrison won't make anywhere near his 1,900 this time I suspect, partially due to the fact I have gotten a hold of him 2 years later than I did last time, and haven't had as much chance to mould him the way I would really want to.

On behalf of Santy (From Last years thread)

Before the game started Keirrison had:

    32 Games | 12 Goals

    Keirrison, Age 35, 103 caps | 219 goals

    2008 | Games: 11 | Goals: 13 | Ass: 2 | MoM: 3
    2009 | Games: 23(1) | Goals: 18 | Ass: 5 | MoM: 7
    2010 | Games: 15 | Goals: 13 | Ass: 4 | MoM: 7
    2011 | Games: 38(1) | Goals: 46 | Ass: 19 | MoM: 19
    2012 | Games: 58 | Goals: 113 | Ass: 5 | MoM: 33
    2013 | Games: 58(1) | Goals: 125 | Ass: 14 | MoM: 32
    2014 | Games: 55 | Goals: 130 | Ass: 14 | MoM: 40
    2015 | Games: 63 | Goals: 149 | Ass: 12 | MoM: 46
    2016 | Games: 61 | Goals: 121 | Ass: 14 | MoM: 42
    2017 | Games: 63 | Goals: 160 | Ass: 20 | MoM: 51
    2018 (stoke) | Games: 32 | Goals: 85 | Ass: 8 | MoM: 26
    2018 (real madrid) | Games: 27 | Goals: 28 | Ass: 10 | MoM: 4
    2019 | Games: 53 | Goals: 50 | Ass: 10 | MoM: 5
    2020 (real madrid) | Games: 26 | Goals: 27 | Ass: 7 | MoM: 2
    2020 (stoke) | Games: 25 | Goals: 64 | Ass: 12 | MoM: 17
    2021 | Games: 59(1) | Goals: 117 | Ass: 42 | MoM: 25
    2022 | Games: 56(1) | Goals: 170 | Ass: 54 | MoM: 25
    2023 | Games: 64 | Goals: 138 | Ass: 35 | MoM: 37
    2024 | Games: 67 | Goals: 137 | Ass: 40 | MoM: 32
    2025 | Games: 4 | Goals: 11 | Ass: 3 | MoM: 4

    Totals:

    Stoke
    703 Games | 1555 Goals

    Brazil
    103 Games | 219 Goals

    Overall
    971 Games | 1946 Goals

Never knew Keirrison was quite so close to 2,000 goals. I'm going to have to keep on playing up until he hits the 2,000 mark now; he should hit it this season.

Also never saw the transfer for Keirrison, but it was only 70m or so upfront, I have had issues with a few transfers. Martin Rusol was loaned to a side with a future fee of £4.75m and it somehow ended up going through at £16m. It was started on 9.2 though, so there's a few bugs still in there.

    Career Totals

    Games - 1,175
    Goals - 2,937
    Assists - 541
    MoM - 675

An impressive season from the guy. I mean, really. 77 goals is massive at this stage in his career. His attributes are really poor now. 63 Goals away from the all elusive 3,000 though, and he even bagged 3 N. Ireland caps this year, taking him 1 away from the all time record. I hope he struggles over the line. An impressive amount of Caps in his career too, for a striker

wow, I didn't realise that getting to the 1,000 in any version of the game was relatively rare. I really have to recover my old hard drive and dig out my FM06 Stefano Corrado screenshots; 20 glorious years at AC Milan in which he scored 969 club goals and 160 international goals (those figures - burned onto my mind). Made extra special (I'm going to insist) by having fairly prolific strike partners throughout that time too. A couple of seasons, in fact, where he didn't even make top goalscorer.

60 Goals left for Smylie. Its been tough going this season though, only 3 goals in 11 games this season, and 2 in the last 2. He's really struggling. I might have to adopt formation for a 1 man attack

49 Goals left for Smylie. He just put 4 past FC Koln in the Champs League. He now has 14 Goals in 19 games, which is much better total than 3 in 11.

13 in his last 9 games, too. If he keeps on at this pace, not too long before that 3,000 is up

Cheers Nep It's been a fantastic career so far in terms of the team and Brennan. I'm hoping that he can keep this sort of strike rate up for about 2/3 more years, as then he'll get to 1,000 easily and i can switch him to the AMC position and stick Marc Beckford (My Son) up front to try and get him to 1,000 as well

Just shows that he wants to get to 3,000, he must know that the mark is nearing!

Some great achievements here and one hopefully i'll be able to achieve. I currently have a player in my save who looks like he could well make the 1,000 goal club. I'm wondering, do u19/u21 goals count or is it just full international, competitive games that count?

Just full international goals Raware, which can be scored in friendlies and competitive matches under your management or AI management

Have you got a screenshot of this guy at all?

Ah, just wondered as he's bagged 39 U21 goals already. Just received his first international cap

    Here's his profile -

    Arnau Abad

As you know as you're following my thread in the careers forum, i'm currently in Argentina and I bought this guy nearly 3 years ago. He's dubbed the new Hugo Rodallega which is what made me splash £1M on him despite him being 18 years old. He hit 12 goals in 25 games in his first season and 48 goals in 55 games last season. This year he's netted 33 goals in 34 games and there's still maybe 20 games to go. I'm really hopeful that he could make it to 1,000 as it's something i've never managed to achieve. I just hope I can keep hold of him!

24 goals in 24 games now for Smylie, means he's now just 39 goals away from 3,000. Its getting close. He's having good and bad spells almost every 3-5 games. I'd be so happy if he gets to 3,000 this season, and then still doesn't retire. 3,100 - or just 3,000 CLUB goals, would be immense.

    29 Goals to go

I've adapted my tactic SLIGHTLY, and its worked wonders. He's firing on all cylinders now, at the ripe old age of 36.

2 pretty awesome things, and 1 slightly not awesome thing.

    1. 19 Goals to go. I REALLY hope he does it this season.
    2. After suggesting he would make a good coach, instead of the usual "Smylie just wants to concentrate on playing" and his future plans saying "Probably not going to stay in the game once he retires" - he has changed his attitude. He would now "prefer a coaching role, should he stay in the game", and in the news article, he is "Edging closer to staying in the game".

The bad thing is, that with this news, it could mean this is his last season. Leaving him a MAXIMUM of 18 games to get 19 goals, and a minimum of 13 games. 'mon the goals.

Just offer him a really lucrative contract. Do everything to keep him in!!!

Just out of interest, how did you sign this fella originally? Was he a product of your youth team, or did you scout him?

    Fantastic news Nep

Just because he is edging closer to staying in the game, doesn't mean that he's going to retire at the end of this season. I've managed to pursuade a player to stay in the game and he lasted 3 more years before finally hanging up his boots. And players usually announce their retirement a year before they actually retire, so you've probably got at least another year with him

'Mon Smylie, finish things off in style

He only has 13 more goals to go. He won't get there this season, but he will get close. Probably expect another 3-5 goals from him this season. If he DID retire, I would be so gutted

If he has 1, 2 or even 3 more seasons, I'll be so happy. He still has attribtues that are good enough for him to keep playing. When wallace retired, so many attributes were at 1-5, but with smylie, he still has a good pool.
