I bought a player who was called (IIRC)

Ignacio Diaz De Cerio (something like that)

I remember when he scored on his debut the commentary said

"And the fans chant Ignacio Diaz De Cerio's name!"

    I don't think so...

Ages ago in 1996/97 I think, I bought a striker called Youri Mulder for my Arsenal side and then, for fairly obvious reasons, bought Tony Scully even though he was poop, just so I had have my own X-Files partnership.

In older versions when playing with my mate I did it all the time, ended up with a better team then him which drove him nuts.

I bought an average Championship player for my Premier League team Billericay Town on 06 who had the same name as me.
To my delight he turned out to be very good for me.

Used to always buy Kennedy Bakircioglu, not because of his name though but because he was awesome.

Legend wasn't he? he's at Ajax now!

A player named Zaltron scored against me yesterday. I considered making a bid, because that is a cool name, but decided that a cool name wasn't enough to get him past the other seven players competing for two forward spots.

I nearly opted out of signing a player called Kyaw Kyaw San because of his name. I REALLY would have missed out, top scorer in Premiership now

I've got a player in my FM07 Nigeria team called Ice Cream. Gave him his internation debut just because of his name.

I remember back in the early days of CM, the board used to suggest that you buy 'a big name player', so I always used to buy Chris Bart-Williams and ask them (out loud, every time) 'He got a big enough name for ya?'

I was young(ish) back then tho'. Wouldn't be guilty of such immature behaviour niowadays.

What do you mean it's not funny?. It may not be funny now, but it wasn't funny then either!

I'm 50,000% guilty of this. Double so when at a lower league team and any player going will do.

Last night while starting a new game with a freshly promoted Polish side I purchesed a Brazilian player called Rambo on a free transfer.

To be fair he's quite good. I'm still waiting for a "Rambo fires in a long range shot" or similar.

I did that exact same thing as well.

And then I think I bought him from a club in Cyprus in FM05 just for the memories.

I make a point of never signing a player whose name I don't like and especially whose name I have no idea how to pronounce!

I had two "John Grant"s in my team in CM97/98, so I bought up all the other John Grants I could find (there were 3 others). One of them turned out to be quite good, so long as I didn't get confused about which one was which and play them out of position.

for sure, brought a South Korean right back into my Sydney FC side, even took up one of my foreigner player slots, just so I could pick him each week, not too bad a player too.

    His name: Oh Bum Suk!
