Four Clubs - Board Experiment

Recommended Posts

The point of this is to see how a different board will affect four almost identical clubs.

The game will feature 4 chairmen and fitting directors at each club.

1 chairman will have 200 CA and a rep of 200

1 chairman will have 200 CA and a rep of 1

1 chairman will have 001 CA and a rep of 200

1 chairman will have 001 CA and a rep of 001

At the clubs where the chairman has a rep of 200 all board members will have 200 CA.

At the clubs where the chairman has a rep of 001 all board memebers will have 001 CA.

After reading Kips expiriment it seems to be the board thats holding back the bandits so lets see fi this holds true in FM08.

The Chosen Four

London United

London United are a new club in the Blue Square North, they have a great chairman and like all clubs huge funds. Solihul Moors made way for their entry.

Club Rep: 900

Status: Professional

Balance: £250,000,000

Sugar Daddy

Stadium: Damson Park (cap:3040)

Chairman:

CA: 200

REP: 200

Business: 20

Interferance: 1

Patience: 20

Resources: 20

All 3 directors have a CA of 200.

Of all the clubs these are the ones best prepped for success. A perfect chairman who doesn't meddle, huge money and a perfect board. As a new club they will start the season with no manager. Arguably this should be the perfect club behind the scenes.

The Chosen Four

London Irish

The Exiles are a new team in the blue square north, being led by a drunken Irishman it should be an interesting club with hopefully all kinds of turmoil.

Club Rep: 900

Status: Semi-Professional

Balance:£250,000,000

Sugar Daddy

Stadium: New Dublin (cap:2500)

Chairman:

CA: 1

REP: 1

Business: 1

Interferance: 20

Patience: 1

Resources: 20

The clubs only director has CA 1 and Rep 1.

Im expecting this club to be the fun club of the bunch, I expect sackings, chairman signing players, selling players and chaos here. To steady the ship a tad the Paddy's would be led by David O'Leary.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maiden Head

The Blue Square South side have being taken over by a new chairman and board.

Club Rep: 900

Status: Semi-Professional

Balance: £250,000,000

PLC

Stadium: York Road (cap:4500)

Chairman:

CA: 200

REP: 1

Business: 10

Interferance: 10

Patience: 10

Resources: 20

The clubs only director has 1ca and 1rep.

This club should in theory struggle to attract big name managers due to low rep but be middle of the road in all else, kind of like Average Joes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poorboro

Poorboro have £5000000 debt but a vastly wealthy chairman, with decent attributes, I'm looking to see will he dig deep to pay off the clubs debt.

Club Rep: 900

Status: Semi-Professional

Balance: -£5,000,000

Sugar Daddy

Stadium: Beveree Stadium (cap:3000)

Chairman:

CA: 1

REP: 200

Business: 20

Interferance: 10

Patience: 10

Resources: 20

The club has one director with 200CA and REP.

Can a chairman with CA 1 and tons of money combine with a director with CA200 to change this club. Will the club end up in administration.

Any thoughts or feedback you guys have or ideas lemme know.

2007 Pre-Season

London United

Valued at £43.5m and had a transfer budget of £12.5m

United acted quickly in bringing in a manager, with former Cardiff assistant and ex-Wimbledone boss Terry Burton arriving.

Burton had a CA 110 and a PA 130, With a judging player ability of 15 and a judging potential of 16, Burton should at least be shrewd in the transfer market. The new bosses main weakness were his level of discipline at 5 and his tactical knowledge at 7. All in all he is a superb manager for this level.

United brought in 9 players, 1 for 35k, 7 on frees and one on loan. These 9 players were to be their top 9 players on CA.

All in all a pretty good pre-season from the club youd expect it from.

------------------------------------------------

London Irish

Valued at £22.5m and a transfer budget of £20.25m

The Exiles were to bring in 7 players all on free transfers. Again full marks to them as 6 of these players were to be first teamers all coming inside the top 10 on CA.

------------------------------------------------

Maidenhead

Valued at £220k and a transfer budget of £0.

Maidenhead were to be the quietest club of the 4, maybe due to the fact they didn't have a sugar daddy and were a PLC but the club was valued at £220k and the manager had no transfer budget. Tbh I had to double check the editing but it was fine. The only reason I can see for this was the PLC vs Sugar Daddy option.

Maidenhead brought in no players and made no changes.

------------------------------------------------

Poorboro

Valued at £22.5m and a transfer budget of £12.5m

Poorboro brought in 5 players again all on frees, again all would be certain starters formation permitting easily getting into the clubs top players.

------------------------------------------------

So bar Maidenhead all squads have brought in much needed players, Meaning that a club with Huge resources but without a sugar daddy don't want to use them. If January is the same it'll be interesting.

Of the players brought in London United signed the most spend £35k on one player and have the strongest squad.

Season One RoundUp

London United

Comings and Goings

Burtons scout like ability led to London United signing no less than 27 players over the course of the season.

10 arrived on free transfers, 6 on loan and 11 players cost a total of £89k. After shelling out huge money the squad

was expected to easily outdo its media prediction.

On the Park

Media Prediction: 21st

Finishing Position:4th

After a shaky start United got in gear and climbed to mid table, but as the finances and host of players arrived so did

performances improve on the pitch. The side eventually comfortably made the playoffs where they would face Kettering

in the semi finals.

A good performance saw them sneak a 1-0 away win. The side fell behind early in the home leg and should of being

dead and buried but a late equaliser saw them avoid extra time and book a spot in the final.

Another good defensive performance saw Boston United unable to break tham down and 1-0 was enough to see the

club promoted.

Final Stats

p 42 w 20 d 10 l 12 gd 17 pts 70

Average CA of 1st XI - 52.82

Average Performance of 1st XI - 6.52

Top Performer - Ian Bury (st) 6.89

Top Scorer - Con Collins (st) 15

Final Thoughts

The team most likely to do well and they did best, after an iffy start to earned promotion and everything at the club looks good.

They'll need to strengthen for the BSP though and hopefullly the chairman will splash the cash.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

London Irish

Comings and Goings

David O'Leary brought in 13 players over the course of the season 12 of which were free transfers and the only one he forked out

money on was a £6k signing from Salisbury.

On the Park

Media Prediction: 22nd

Finishing Positon: 12th

The Exiles easily exceeded their media prediction and were never in danger at all throughout the season. A late slump saw them fall

away from any playoff hopes and the club finished in midtable. Not alot to write home about really.

Final Stats

p 42 w 14 d 12 l 16 gd -11 pts 54

Average CA of 1st XI - 41.2

Average Performance of 1st XI - 6.26

Top Performer - Steven Lynch (st) 6.81

Top Scorer - Paul Taylor (st) 19

Final Thoughts

The team most likely to implode did very little this season, with no expectation placed on O'Leary it was a quite season, with expectations

being higher next season it was likely so too would be pressure and we might start to see the turbulent side of the club.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maidenhead

Comings and Goings

After a quiet start Maidenhead brought in 15 players over the course of the campaign. 13 arrived on free's and 2 loanees.

On the Park

Media Prediction: 21st

Finishing Positon: 11th

Much like London Irish but without any major peaks or slumps in form, Comparable to West Ham in the EPL this season..

Final Stats

p 42 w 17 d 6 l 19 gd -8 pts 57

Average CA of 1st XI - 29.4

Average Performance of 1st XI - 6.25

Top Performer - Aaronn Mc'conville(st) 6.82

Top Scorer - John Hastings (st) 15

Final Thoughts

After looking iffy early on Maidenhead eventually evened out and brought in players, no amazing or terrible performances but

a solid season, another club with higher expectations comes higher pressure although this chairman has a brain. A terribly low

squad CA though would need vast improvement.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poorboro

Comings and Goings

14 signings and a much better squad than expected, 12 frees and 2 players that cost £1k each. The club spent roughly 1/60th of

John Terry's weekly wage over a whole season.

On the Park

Media Prediction: 22ndt

Finishing Positon: 18th

They outdid their media prediction but withe the funds at their disposal they should of probably edged a tad higher..That said they

only finished 6 points from 9th and 5 behind Maidenhead.

Final Stats

p 42 w 13 d 13 l 16 gd -8 pts 52

Average CA of 1st XI - 46.7

Average Performance of 1st XI - 6.16

Top Performer - Ian Hodges (st) 6.83

Top Scorer - Ian Hodges (st) 22

Final Thoughts

Looking at how strong their first Xi is they really should of finished higher, Almost 17 points per player better than Maidenhead and

they have a prolific frontman in Hodges. The chairman and board can't be to blame as the side paid off the debt immediately and

splashed out on wages for 14 players. Surely next season should be better. If not I think the manager may find himself out of work.

A very interesting experiment, but I do wonder how closely did you check your editing? From what you've posted it looks to me like Poorborough ended up with big money in the bank and Maidenhead plc ended up with debt. That would explain why they were the ones worth very little money and without a transfer budget whilst Poorboro are actually exceptionally rich for the level.

If you've got an in-game editor it also might be worth checking whether your 1 CA chairman retains his 20 Business and Resources rating or if the game automatically adjusts it downwards (as it would for 1CA players with 20 pace)

Then again, I'm not sure whether CA means anything for board members anyway.

my predictions: a little late, but still

1) board member reputation will make no difference whatsoever - people join the club because it has a reputation on the pitch (and pays well), not because the guy handling the purse strings has made a name for himself

2) the vastly wealthy chairman won't dig deep enough to pay off the debt unless i) the club become successful or ii) they are threatened with administration, at which point he will pay up or leave.

3) all 3 wealthy clubs will escape Blue Square North within 15 years but it will be decades before any of them get near to the Prem because money isn't closely linked to reputation in the game.

Arroantio - I've checked the database 3 times. PB start at -£5,000,000, Maidenhead at £250,000,000 so only plc vs sugardaddy explains it.

At the end of season 1 it shows all the clubs at simular rep bar London Utd who have jumped to 1300.

All chairmen retain the same chairman stats i gave them at the start.

I was thinking chairman reputation would affect the quality of manager arriving as opposed to the quality of player. Reading the bandits thread it seems the non league board was what is holding them back from hiring a good manager.

P O'D - Are you running the English leagues on Full Detail? The average performance of 1st XI seems low to me. This may be caused by not running it on full detail. If you are running it on full detail I can only think that it's because you used everyone from the squad - ie. the fringe players that maybe made 1 sub appearance and got a 5. Perhaps something to think about in future?

It's something I've found interesting looking at The Bandits thread and needed someone to work out what the issue is. So well done to you and KUTGW </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Hi mate, its the average for the best XI at the end of season, all played alot of games, the problem with teh ratings is alot of the teams play at least one player with a CA of between 10 & 30 who usually averages in the low 5's.

And your right I wasn't running the division on full detail.

Thx to everyone for the feedback, for what its worth the whole bandits thing was bugging me so I had to check.

Btw, I just started a second version of the game (which won't be used fot the exp) and Poorboro don't start in debt despite what the editor says, plus Maidenhead start 400k in debt despite being rich in the DB. anyone know any possible explanations bar the PlC vs SugarDaddy one.

Season 08-09 PreSeason

London United

Starting in the BSP for the first time United need to strengthen heavily. The media are predicting them to be easily relegated.

The clubs rep jumped hugely but strangely their value dropped by £9m. New signing and the highest rep player at the club is legend David Unsworth.

Club Rep: 1381 (+481)

Value: £34.5m (-9m)

Media Prediction: 24th

Stadium: Damson Park (cap:3040 with 970 seated)

------------------------------------------------

London Irish

Moving to the Conference South has put 3 of the clubs in the same division. The Irish have again being tipped for the drop.

The clubs rep slightly increased but not enough to see them proclaimed anything other than underdogs in a tough division which also features AFC Wimbledon.

Club Rep: 942 (+42)

Value: £20.5m (-2m)

Media Prediction: 23rd

Stadium: New Dublin (cap:2500 with 350 seated)

------------------------------------------------

Maidenhead

Being a PLC Maidenhead don't seem to have the cash to match the others despite a wealthy chairman.

The clubs rep remained pretty much the same despite finishing in midtable.

Club Rep: 918 (+18)

Value: £210k(-10k)

Media Prediction: 16th

Stadium: York Road (cap:4500 with 400 seated)

------------------------------------------------

Poorboro

After barely staying up last season the club are odds on to come last this term, despite their wealthy chairman.

The clubs rep remainded the same but they took the least hit in club value making them the second most valuable.

Club Rep: 914 (+14)

Value: £21m (-1.5m)

Media Prediction: 22nd

------------------------------------------------

Stadium: Damson Park (cap:3040 with 970 seated)

------------------------------------------------
