Default Football Manager 2010 - Digital Download Purchase Options (NEW Mac Steam option)

    Hi All,

A list of the places where you will be able to digitally download FM10 for PC.

    STEAM - http://store.steampowered.com/app/34000/

    IGN D2D - http://www.direct2drive.com/8483/pro...-Game-Download

    GamersGate - http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-FM201...l-manager-2010

    Gamesplanet.com http://www.gamesplanet.com/UK/pc-gam...0-1545-15.html

For Mac, we have two options:

    ESellerate: https://store2.esellerate.net/store/...nePageCart.htm

And the new Mac Steam - http://store.steampowered.com/about/ - Once installed search for Football Manager 2010 to purchase and run the game.

    Cheers

    Matt (and Miles!)

Yes, Matt. What's the best way to dl the demo in anticipation of the [understatement]heavy[/understatement] traffic?

BTW, we won't kill any QA testers in this thread, right?

These details will enable you to purchase and download the full game digitally upon its release....

I'm sorry, those of you who asked about the demo download are responsible for a few more testers. Oh, the testers...;)

Thanks Matt. I'll definitely be going digital. More than likely thru Steam. Can't wait to get stuck into the achievements.

You must only have 1 or 2 testers left by now. The empty jobs up for grabs? ;)

Just went to the steam link that Matt posted and got this:

"This game will unlock in approximately 2 weeks, 2 days and 23 hours".

Looks like it'll be a 8pm release for those in the UK. (3pm for me in the U.S)

As it's 7pm now, that would make it a 6pm release surely?

My steam says 2 weeks 3 days and 0 hours.

It will be midnight and Steam will catch up correctly at the right time.

so if I buy FM10 from a store like tesco? can I install it and put it in steam and not have to use the CD and have all the features that steam provide?

Yes, you can install it exactly the same as last year. Or you can go "old skool" and use the disc without having to activate at all.

Anyone 'Pre-Purchased' a game from Steam before?

Will it download automatically when it comes out? Pretty handy if it does

Yes. Pre-ordered it last year through Steam. It started to download as soon as the game became avaliable. Just make sure to have your PC on and Steam running;)

Sorry for the double, but with all the testers being killed, are SI/Sega laying the foundations for multiple excuses should there be any big bugs.........

Ahh, nice to be able to save about 30% by buying it digitally compared to a Norwegian store.

Btw, would be smart to add the link to the UK-site of IGN D2D as the current link is only for american customers.

Why not put the release date of the demo and the full game back 1 day for every post which says "When is the demo out?"

PS When IS the demo out?

Will the digital download be available for non-EU countries? For example in Russia digital download via STEAM isn't available.

Im new to this steam thing but its sounds good.
My predicerment is my laptop is away have a new screen fitted (luckily it packed up 2 weeks before the warranty ran out) however the screen is out of stock and they don't know when I will receive it back. I am currently using my daughters computer (which ran FM09 fine) so if I download via steam on to this computer how would I go about putting it on mine when it eventually returns??

    Thanks In Advance.

Ok this is not death inflicting question about the demo, but more a general question about Steam ( testers can breathe easy!)

WHEN, the demo comes out will I be able to download it through STEAM in South Korea? I appreciate that I cannot buy it through STEAM as it's not available in SK but is this the same for the demo?

Steam's speeds are always so good compared to other programmes

    Oy!
Question: Will the American market be forced to purchase "World Soccer Manager" or whatever the heck it's called, or we be given the option of buying Football Manager.
I'd prefer to download digitally, but not if it's not Football Manager.
Also, will the Mac release be after the PC release? Last year it was a couple weeks after PC release that I was able to get my Mac edition.

There is no WWSM. Its all now FM.

I also have a Mac and you should be supposed to get them at the same time; that's what Miles said at least. I feel you there man.

Thank God for just having FM10, not that WWSM crap! That's good news.
Even better is the fact that the Mac and PC will be released at same time. Fantastic.

Now, if only I could get a FM10 version that ran on my iPhone, that synced up to my game on my Mac. THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC!!

You can install the game on any computer in the world and play the game on it through Steam, but Steam will only allow you to have one instance running at a time...So yes, you can install and run the game on your desktop, and then later, play it again on your laptop.

Question: If we buy through D2D (digitally from a site other than steam) will we be able to link it into steam when installing for the achievements? As you can do with a boxed copy.

If it makes you feel better they want 50 euro(~46pound) for us Europeans.

Anyone have any experience with D2D on release dates? Not paying 20 euro more for the game on Steam.

If i buy the game direct donwload say from IGN than its just a case of downloading it and entering the activation code?

Not a fan of steam or any third party programs and just wanna make sure if i buy it direct download i wont have to install it.

Exactly that. You D/L the game, install it, and activate it using the same DRM as last year. No disks, no Steam.

I recently bought Risen via D2D and while they strongly recommend their download manager, it's not technically required.

    Hi!
I have a question. Why FM10 (as well as FM09) is not available via Steam in Russia? I think Steam could be the easiest way to buy FM for Russian players.
And in a couple of weeks I'll still have this "This item is currently unavailable in your region" while the rest of the world will be playing.
    It's unfair

If you're in Russia, we're not able to release the game there due to licensing issues so you'd need to look for an import I'm afraid.

Since I read we still have the option to activate the game and get it to patch itself that way, I think I'll go for the boxed version

It's always nice to have it sitting on the shelf, next to its older brothers ^^ and if the friggin' apocalypse comes and steam goes down, I wanna be able to keep on playing in my basement ! Even if I have to go raid the wastelands for fuel, or build my own wind turbine out of a lawn mower xD

... Damn, sounds more like "Fallout Manager" ^^

Anyway, thanks to the team for their dedication and the unique way they have of listening to the fans' feedback. That's what made you guys number one, and if you keep it up, that's what will make you stay that way.

Ambitious idea for next year's release : non-FIFA football xD

Will the IGN version have completely different encryption which requires patches to take longer to be developed for it and cause other incompatabilitise such as installing new skins?
Heard a lot of issues with such things in other games in the past.

Just to double check, since I think I'll buy on STEAM this year, there will be a manual included in the STEAM version? Also, I'll be able to use logo and photo packs?

Regadless of whether its midnight or 8pm, I'm looking at an early morning thing over here. Got mine off gamersgate because Steam won't let me download any games outside their region - which is kinda nonsense.

    £25, which wasn't that bad.

Dunno if its because I'm outside of the UK so I was billed differently, but if you load the UK version of gamersgate FM2010 its actually 30 quid but if you purchase it in US dollars on the international site, it actually comes to 25 quid (actually £24.40.) Because of the current conversion rates from american currency its about 5 quid cheaper for some reason.

I'm not sure of they will let you buy the game in USD if your ISP is broadcasting from inside the UK though.

Here's a question that came up..

If I buy a non-boxed version of the game, will it be possible to download the game using a terminal (let's say a college one for instance), then copy it to install it on my PC and activate it without an Internet connection?

Your copy will need STEAM to be activated so I dont think you willl be able to play on a PC without internet connetion unless you have the DVD.

Not true. The DD version is activated using Uniloc, as per '09. What he's suggesting might work, but I'd be worried about the registry entries being messed up...

    Hello,

Esellerate don't run pre-orders for Mac. The game will be available to download on the 30th though - and I've asked for details on the price - without any real knowledge of this, it'll be consistent with last years (at a guess!) and I'll bring more info when I have it.

    Cheers

I don't really understand this. Why would anyone purchase and download the game from Steam if you can also get it digitally from sites like game.com for much less? Or can European non-UK users only purchase it via Steam?

Steams handy for having a digital copy of the game rather than keeping a CD. It used to be competitively priced but now its just ******** because they do dollar-> euro conversion 1:1.

My question has been half answered but not completely so could soemone give me a clear answer on the following:

Last year I downloaded via steam when the disc I got from the UK didnt work. If I remember correctly I was able to move the exe file out of the steam folder and then play the game even when I was offline. Will I be able to do this again with FM2010 if I download direct from Steam and I assume I can download via steam in Turkey?

    Thanks in advance.

Hold on? So we wont be able to pre download the game, we'll have to wait until the 30th until we can download it and play it?

Why wont it be available to dl prior to the 30th but be locked until the target time?

What ar eyou talking about? Steam is incredably fast and if its slow its a problem on your end not theres. I don't think anyone has a connection that steam can't max out.

What about Germany? It is unavailable on steam and direct2drive for this region. Gamersgate seems to work.

Steam is pretty rapid if you have a decent internet connection. And you will be able to preload on Steam - my answer above was related to Esellerate which doesn't offer a preloading service apparently.

Am I the only one to think the game is f... expensive to buy on Steam, and generally in all digital format stores?

I mean, come on...the distribution cost is zero. The packaging and manufacturing cost is zero. And they still manage to make it more expensive than the boxed version.

I'm a fan of digital media. But only when it's fair. And this, my friends, is not the case.

You can install Steam and play across more than one PC. And you only have to be online once.

Actually, I'd say you've got it the wrong way round... mostly it's cheaper in retail because they discount against their own profits to drive sales volume.

And digital distribution channels could do the same as well - and more, because their profit margin is larger (due to the reasons specified above).

Don't take me wrong. I understand their point of view. It's just that it is taking people for dumb (or lazy/impatient to wait 3 days for the box to arrive).

I would just hope that game creators would improve their marketing strategies to benefit both them and the players. Take a look at World of Goo (http://2dboy.com/games.php). Brilliant game - not to mention it is avaliable on all platforms, *INCLUDING* Linux.
The digital copy is cheap ($20). And, even greater, they have a special, Radiohead-inspired offer of "pay what you like" for the game. Which could be a very interesting case study.

I have two questions with regard to Steam.

    a) If I do not pre-order and wait 'til Friday afternoon, will that affect the chances of me getting it? (ie servers overload) Should I pre-order?

    b) Do I have to open steam every time I want to play FM or will their be a shortcut?

    Cheers

Not true, only true for UK players. You pay 30 sterling for it, we pay 46 sterling when you do euro->sterling from steam

I've just ordered Football Manager 2010, relying on what Matt said below at his 21 October, 17:07 post, i.e. that we can pre-load the game on Steam.

Surprise surprise, I can't. It just says "not yet released", and does not allow me to pre-load it.

Any way anyone can help, so I can pre-load the (locked until day of release) game, as Matt said it was possible to do, and not have to load it at a time when EVERYONE will want to load it, thus increasing risk of server failure, etc.? Many thanks!

It won't preload until the day before release, if my memory of last year serves.

I'm trying to find an exact time but if you wanted my bet we'd allow downloads from 1201 GMT on Friday and start preload around 12 hours before - if all goes according to plan. More detail nearer the time though.

Sorry, if you know of another supplier who does Mac preloads and pre-orders by all means make me aware and I'll see if we can deal with them. There's only so much we can do if the partners don't exist....
