From the Star Players to the Tea Lady: Top To Bottom!

Welcome to my new sign-up, Top To Bottom!

This is a sign-up where you get to create everything about your club from the very top to the very bottom. Loosely based on some of the ideas Wegason had for ‘The Key to Success,’ a fabulous idea for a sign-up that unfortunately stalled before it got going, I have decided to run the sign-up as my second effort following my popular FMX-Factor sign-up which was based on player creation. Although my FMX-Factor 2 is still going (it should finish within the next few weeks) I have decided to get started on my next sign-up now. Don’t worry FMX fans, FMX-Factor 3 will be taking place when FM10 is out!

So, why should you sign up?

Without wishing to sound arrogant, I know that my sign-up is of a good quality. I am reliable with my updates, give lots of detail, listen to the people involved and adapt appropriately. I have run FMX-Factor and FMX-Factor 2 with most users enjoying them and I was recently voted ‘CSE User of the Future 2009’ in the CSE Awards.

So, what do you need to do?

For now, apply to be in the sign-up. There are twenty spots and the sign-up form will be coming soon. There will be eight stages to sign-up so be warned that you need to be checking regularly over the next few weeks. It’ll take a while to get started (I estimate a month or so) but it will be worth it in the end. I am not going to say that only the first twenty people to sign-up will be in – I discovered in FMX-Factor that some players sign-up and then disappear so I will be reserving the right to choose who I want.

    The eight stages will be:
    1. Initial Club Application (see sign-up form later)
    2. Creating a chairman.
    3. Creating a manager.
    4. Club Background.
    5. Backroom Staff.
    6. First Team Squad.
    7. Reserves and Backup.
    8. Youth Team.

The sign-up form is coming soon.

    Good luck!

    GCB (Andy)

Not sure about the name of your club - Can't you use Brennan United or Brennan FC or something similar? It sounds like a player (which it is clearly - Dafuges with FCUM yeah?) so it'd get confusing. Other than that, fine.

    Roberto, thats fine too.

I'm not sure how the more than 20 rule is going to work, as it's not exactly first come:first served, so you've probably got a decent chance.

Unfortunately I thought it'd be kinda cheating to use the MCG as my home stadium, and the Junction Oval isn't home for Melbourne. And I sure as hell ain't using Casey Fields.

    I count 26 as well - WOW!

For those of you who participated in FMX or viewed it, you'll know that it is a little complicated at times. My intention is to make this one a little simpler - a simple report and screenshots update - to read and write!

I'm going to keep the application stage open even though I have 26 ... Two reasons for this:

    1. If I get too 44+, I could run a second division (am going to use English Premier League at moment but could bring Championship into play);

    2. I want to give people who have been involved in my previous sign-ups chance to see and apply. That doesn't mean that the users with few posts to their name (i.e.Thefanghunter) or those who are new to my sign-up's (i.e. Super_Lampard) will be second priority after the FMX clique! If I don't get to 44+ I will simply get rid of any I don't want and then draw out the chosen 20.

Can't believe 26 people signed up within 24 hours of first post. Cheers. Let's hope it is a brilliant sign-up!

    GCB / Andy

do you not think that 44 team's is a bit over-ambitious? Sounds like a lot of editing, and I speak from experience when I say a lot of editing is not fun!

I was thinking this, plus as FMX2 showed, less is often more. It's taken ages to pare it down to mostly those who do contribute to the thread - loads signed up and then disappeared.

Ditto to this - a lot of editing most definitely is not fun. Creating whole clubs too - let's just say that 7B on a Monday morning is a lot more stimulating!

Imagine editing whole teams, editing stadium's, reputation of the club, finances of the club, creating the chairman, all of the staff (including all of the staff stats and reputation and ability) as well as all the players (including all of their stats, reputation and ability). Then repeat that a further 19 times. 20 clubs, about 300 staff and around 500 players. Who'd be crazy enough to do that!

in fairness he's doing it in stages so it'll be broken down which isn't too bad, but yeah the fun of editing kinda wears off after the first few.

44 does sound alot, perhaps you could cut it off at 32 and move it from England to a league which has 2 tiers of 16 teams?

Well, editing is one thing, updating on all of them is another story. I've had my headaches updating a large amount (53 to be exact) of players in FM08 A New World. Nice memories.

If you take more time editing and making updates than actually playing, it's not worth it, which is (usually) the main reason for signups becoming inactive.

But if you can handle all that then go ahead with what you think you can manage.

Agree with concerns re: number of sign-up people. I guess I'm guilty of not wanting to disappoint.

The point raised about me editing the DB in stages holds true. I won't be doing everything in one go.

30 signed up now. Might have a look at some other FM09 leagues and use 30 ... Any suggestions for a country which would hold 30 teams in it's top tier, top two tiers etc ... Scotland might be a possibility - is it 12 in SPL, then 10 and 10 Div 1 and 2?

I will weed out people early on this time - I have a cunning plan as Bladrick would say

Yes, Scotland is 12,10,10,10. Portugal has two tiers of 16, but not sure what else without going into the editor, which I can't do right now as I'm at work.

Portugal has a League Cup which has all the 2L teams go in the first round, then the bottom half of the top league in the second round then the top half.

The Portuguese cup which includes everyone as well.

I love the Portuguese set-up, other than the qualifying for the League Cup is glitchy in that the top 6 don't get ranked into the groups.

Applications for the sign-up are now closed. I have 30 applications (31 if whitehead responds in next hour or so) and that'll do.

Have thought lots and I will be limiting it at 20. Competition for a place is fierce.

Looking at the applicants, I cannot see reasons to deny anyone a place. Therefore, you are all guaranteed a place IF you follow the instructions for signing up carefully.

HINT 1: some of you have made mistakes already in Stage 1. When you are given 14 club attributes to rank from most important to least important, I want all 14 in the list. If you have only ranked 12 or 13 of them (go check and edit if you need to), you will not be successful.

HINT 2: Make sure you complete each stage otherwise you're out!

I will run through the stages for applications and if all 30/31 do it properly, then 10/11 of you will end up in the Championship. That's how I'll do it.

The next step is to create your chairman. It will be posted soon.

    SIGN-UP STAGE 2:

Thank you for applying to be part of the TOP TO BOTTOM sign-up.

Remember: follow the instructions carefully to guarantee your place in the sign-up.

The next step is to create your chairman. You have already selected your chairman’s name so I now need to know more about him. There are two things I want you to do:

    1. You have 120 points to spend on your chairman’s person data. Each person attribute must be a minimum of 1 and cannot exceed 20. There are 9 attributes that you can spend the 120 points on. They are:

Adaptability, Ambition, Controversy, Determination, Loyalty, Pressure, Professionalism, Sportsmanship, Temperament

    2. You need to rank these four chairman attributes in order of importance: Business, Interference, Patience, Resources. The one you judge to be most important will be set to 20, the next will be set to 15, the next to 10 and the final one will be set to 5.

    CA/PA/Reputation
    - These will all be set to the same for each chairman. I will confirm what these values are later when I edit the database.

Use this form to send in Stage 2 of your application:

Spend 120 points on these (min 1, max 20):

    Adaptability: 1
    Ambition: 1
    Controversy: 1
    Determination: 1
    Loyalty: 1
    Pressure: 1
    Professionalism: 1
    Sportsmanship: 1
    Temperament: 1

Please keep them in the alphabetical order – it will help me so much later!

Rank these attributes: Business, Interference, Patience and Resources.

    Most Important:
    2nd:
    3rd:
    Least Important:

Too much to do - the lads were right about the database. I was considering it before. It would take too long. Plus I'm really familiar with the EPL already.
