My name doesn't exactly match my job...a Canadian/Hong Kong manager, who hasn't even set foot into Africa, becoming manager of one of the top 50 greatest footballing countries in the world...I don't even know any of the players...well outside of El-Hadji Diouf, and that Hoffenheim striker...

While managing for Senegal, I was also itching to enter club management. I applied to various managerial posts, before a Northern Irish club, Dundela, approached me to become manager near the end of the 2008-2009 season. They accepted my request to wait till the end of the season, as I wanted to expand my options and see what other jobs were out there. Soon enough, Lisburn Distillery, who were just relegated from the Northern Ireland Premier Division, contacted me and wanted me to become their manager. I accepted their offer, and looked forward to bringing them back to the Premier Division.

We won the African Cup of Nations!!!

I'm also 12th in the African Roll of Honour.

Great work by everyone on the team. The game against Guinea was a dose of reality that we would need to work hard, and we proved the pundits wrong through this African Cup of Nations win!!!

And Senegal have moved up 16 places to 15th in the World Rankings. We are now the 2nd best African nation, behind Cameroon (13th).

Thanks. I didn't have a lot of expectations going into this tournament, other than just getting out of the group. Didn't have any confidence after the Guinea game. The better team won that day. Guinea wanted to more that game. Otherwise, my team worked hard. A common theme is that I don't have enough possession of the ball.

Next update will probably be an end of the season update with Distillery in Northern Ireland. I hope that with this African Cup of Nations win, more club teams will notice me, and I can find a better job than in the Northern Ireland First Division once I have filled my Northern Ireland knowledge bar.

The African Cup of Nations win and my increase in reputation have now given me some options to look over in the summer. Reports have said that teams like Bielefeld (German 2nd Division), Hull (English Championship), FC Zwolle (Dutch Eerste Divisie), and S. Urfaspor (Turkish First Division) are all interested in my services. I believe that most are probably bogus, and I am strongly leaning towards staying with Distillery for another year, but it's nice to be in the news and being wanted.

It's nearing the July transfer window, and I have already been offered a job at a Norwegian First Division club (which I rejected). Shandong just fired their manager, and I'm rumoured to be the leading candidate to take over...

And I've just been offered the Shandong job...I need to think things over...I've always wanted to manage in China (I got over 40 years experience managing there ) but it's a bit early for me. It's a high risk, high reward job. I'll have to win the league next season.

I have officially rejected the Shandong offer ($125k per year for 4 years) with a $6.75 mil transfer budget and $4.2 mil wage budget.

I seriously think that Distillery have what it takes to get into Europe this season, or at least a mid-table spot. Shandong had some serious holes to fill, and I'll have to do a total rebuild of that team...I'm personally not ready to go to Asia yet.

A fantastic result. We've played Linfield a few times, and they always were a tough opponent. We controlled the entire game.

The chances between the two sides were even for most of the match before Killeen tallied in the 64th minute, and McCann scoring in the 80th minute to give Distillery the win

Neither of the teams could muster up any scoring chances.

A Lewis Killeen goal from a penalty in the 11th minute was enough in a rather dull match.

All good things must come to an end...and two goals by Gary Hamilton snapped my unbeaten streak in league play.

9th: vs Linfield - Antrim Cup Final (L 1-2) - Michael Allen

Went behind 2-0 on another own goal by Paul Hamilton, and a goal by Mark McAllister. I switched to an all out attack in the 2nd half, but only scored one goal.

13th: vs Loughgall - Premier Division (W 2-0) - Michael Pook, Lewis Killeen

Distillery went back to their winning ways against a struggling Loughgall squad.

24th: vs Dungannon - League Cup 3rd Round Leg 2 (W 2-1) - Lewis Killeen, Mark Cousins

The 2nd leg of my league cup fixture against Dungannon was uneventful - Dungannon scored on a penalty late in the game, and I was scrambling to try and find 2 goals. Alas, I only found one, but at least it was scored by my goalkeeper.

We dominated this match, but only came up with one goal. Thankfully it was enough for the win.

Worst game of the year so far. We didn't create many opportunities.

Quite disappointing match as Newry are in a relegation playoff position.

Portadown scored a late goal, as we failed to take all the points again.

I was looking at another draw, until Allen scored two goals late in the game for the win.

Jamie Day scored to take an early lead, but Linfield fought back, and scored a total fluke goal in the 86th minute.

We outchanced Glentoran everyway possible. We had 8 shots on target to their 1.

A penalty kick was good enough to give us 3 points.

8th: vs Ards Rangers - Irish Cup 5th Round (W 2-1) - Ryan McCann, Rob King - YP1

Should have dominated, but a goal in extra time by YP1 gave me a deep sigh of relief and we advanced to the 6th Round.

12th: at Crusaders - Premier Division (L 0-1)

We had no business winning this rivalry game, and the better team won on this day.

15th: at Loughgall - Premier Division (D 1-1) - Lewis Killeen

Fell behind in the 58th minute, but the ref gave us 2 penalties. Unfortunately, Killeen missed one of them.

Fantastic result against the league holders. Pook scored two early goals, and Killeen scored on a penalty.

The game was tied at 1 going into extra-time. Ballymena were down a man due to injury, and we capitalized on the man advantage.

A dull match with no real scoring opportunities for either team.

Both teams had 3 shots in total, but a Jamie Day strike in the 26th minute was enough to take 3 points.

We peppered Dungannon with over 20 shots (although only 6 on target) and got 2 goals in the latter half of the game to keep up with the rest of the top 4 teams.

Trevor Molloy scored 2 goals for Glenavon, and an own goal by Paul Hamilton proved to be the difference maker in this match.

16th: vs Portadown - Irish Cup Quarter Final (W 2-1) - Curtis Allen, Chris Kennedy

Two early goals by Allen (5th minute) and Kennedy (11th) was enough to win the cup match against Portadown despite GK Mark Cousins scoring an own goal.

19th: vs Coleraine - Premier Division (D 1-1) - Michael Allen

A disappointing result as I failed to take all the points at home for some breathing room for the 3rd spot.

Mark Miskimmon scored 2 goals for Linfield as Distillery are now level on points with Cliftonville.

Was a bit annoyed after it was tied 2-2 going into extra time, against a First Division club and my feeder club no less. So I gave a 10 minute (beep) tirade, and my team scored 3 goals in extra time to advance to the final -- against Linfield.

My bogey team in Northern Ireland seems to be Ballymena Utd. I cannot beat them consistently. I've had better times against Linfield as you can see.

July 1st: Rangers (Scotland), Gladbach (Germany), Chelmsford (BSS), Marine (BSN), Tiverton (BSS) - maybe a bit of interest in Gladbach, but for now, I rather stay at Distillery with these options. I prefer a move to England (League One, League Two, or BSP side)

July 2nd: offered a new 3 year contract at $34.5k per year. Accepted (for now anyways)

Pretty even match, but Zeta scored when they needed to.

Canadian Ricky Nakano resigns as Distillery Boss

LISBURN - Ricky Nakano has resigned from his managerial post at Lisburn Distillery with immediate effect. Pundits in Northern Ireland, along with fans of Distillery, were shocked to hear the news. However, Nakano has been rumoured to seek a new challenge in a tougher league, and reports have indicated that he applied for the Norwegian Premier Division outfit Valerenga. Reports that indicated that Nakano is a couple days away from signing with a new team.

GILLINGHAM -Ricky Nakano was unveiled today as the new manager of The Gills. The former Lisburn Distillery manager is said to be very exciting of the challenge of managing the League One side. "I am delighted to be the manager of Gillingham. I envision a bright future with this club, with many trophies. My experience as the manager of Lisburn Distillery taught me many aspects of being a football manager, and I'm pleased to be here.

There are already rumours surfacing that Nakano might be planning to sign several players from Distillery to Gillingham, notably Johnny Monaghan.

Thanks mate. My time so far with The Gills have been a bit of a struggle so far. I don't exactly like the squad. I'll have to rebuild the whole team, which means a lot of selling, and signings players on a free (or a small transfer fee). I left because I realized that I lost motivation in managing Distillery. I was looking at other vacancies that I didn't think I will do a good job with them.

A match I would like to forget. I didn't really know any of the players, so I created a lineup with the assistance of a coach. (I didn't even have an Ass Man...)

13th: at Oldham - League One - L 1-2 - Glenn Murray

An even match, but Oldham just scored one more goal...

20th: vs Lincoln - League One - D 1-1 - Glenn Murray

First time in England where I actually had a lead. It lasted 15 minutes before Lincoln tied the game.

The team really didn't show up. Although, the team is still gelling...

Yes, I finally got a win! A Mark Burchill hat trick, and Svensson got an assist.

Both teams had one shot on target. Leyton Orient scored on their shot. We didn't.

Nothing happened in full time, but we can take penalties at least.

We can beat up League Two opposition. We came out on top with the win.

Horrible luck, as Norwich scored 3 goals in 10 minutes (48th which was an OG, 49th, 53rd) to win.

No, I wasn't playing it easy against the Canadians to boost their world ranking, at least not deliberately. Brighton striker Simeon Jackson (and former Gills player) scored in the 90th minute at BMO Field at Toronto in front of over 14,000.

Solid game, and a good win.

Group D with Ivory Coast, South Africa, and Mali

Game 1: vs Ivory Coast - L 1-3

Really should have done better, but Ivory Coast is tough opposition. We did lose against Nigeria at the last African Cup of Nations.

Game 2: vs South Africa - W 1-0

Scoreline should have been greater, but a win is a win.

Game 3: vs Mali - D 0-0

We were on the defensive too much this match. We really didn't deserve to win this game, but the result was enough to advance.

Group Stages

Quarter-Final: vs Tunisia - D 2-2 (win 6-5 on penalties)

An even match, and I was relieved to advance on penalties.

Semi-Final: vs Nigeria - L 1-2

A late goal by Yakubu knocked us out of the African Cup of Nations final.

3rd Place Playoff: vs Ghana - L 1-2

A frustrating result with another late goal conceded.

Overall, I'm disappointed with my performance. We didn't play as well as I knew my team could play. I think I'm very close to resigning, and fancy a challenge with an European national team.

Looking at the attendances, I hope Gabon doesn't host another African Cup of Nations...although the semi-finals and the final had 30,000+ in attendance.

An early goal by Marcel gave the team confidence and we controlled the rest of the game and take all the points.

8th: at Tranmere - League 1 - W 1-0 - Luke Freeman

A goal by loan ST Freeman early in the 2nd half was enough for The Gills to record another victory.

11th: vs Swindon - League 1 - W 2-1 - Resit Schuurman (2)

Two 2nd half goals by my right midfielder led us to a come from behind victory.

14th: at Colchester - Johnstone's Paint Trophy South Final Leg 2 - D 1-1 (win 2-1 on aggregate) - Ritchie Jones

Colchester scored early by a goal from Shelton Martis, but a Ritchie Jones equalizer in the 68th minute put The Gills fans in pandemonium as we advance to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final against Huddersfield at Wembley.

18th: at Colchester - League 1 - W 2-1 - Fabio Borini, Joe Jacobson

We stayed at Colchester for the league match, and beat them again.

25th: vs Huddersfield - League 1 - W 2-0 - Neal Trotman, Marcel

We won again, against promotion candidates and my opponent for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final.

A game we dominated from start to finish. I was a bit worried after 45 minutes, with the score nil-nil, but a 67th and a 85th minute helped me relax a bit.

A 7th minute goal by Schuurman was enough to win and inch closer to that playoff spot!

The team was outplayed by Northampton, but Freeman scored in the 59th minute to salvage a draw.

10th: vs Carlisle - League 1 - D 0-0

The shots were 15-1 in favour of us. We lost 2 points in this game.

17th: at Wycombe - League 1 - W 3-1- Jamie Young OG, Marcel (2)

An early lead from an own goal put the pressure on Wycombe to score an equalizer, which they never did, as we secured another victory.

I was neutral about the draw. We're keeping pace with the other teams for that last playoff spot.

I hope not.

I already have a bit of a stumbling block in early April. I'm still very much in the race for the last spot though. I would definitely need a lot of help and luck.

My preference is to stay at Gillingham, although I would entertain offer from other English clubs, and only English clubs. I've already been rumoured to be the leading candidate for the Wolves and Leicester managerial positions, but I probably won't read too much into it. My priority would be to stay with The Gills and aim for promotion next year, regardless of whether I get into the playoffs or not this year.

Considering I was near the relegation zone for half the year, I'm more relieved that I'm still in League 1!

Most of the key players on my squad will be back for another year, and I'm hoping to get some reinforcements in the summer transfer window, so I hope I can get an automatic promotion, because playoffs haven't been kind to me.

Marcel scored on a penalty in the 44th minute, but somehow, there was 4 minutes of extra time, and Chesterfield drew level before the end of the half.

A Luke Freeman goal was enough to defeat Wycombe.

18th: at Scunthorpe - League 1 - W 3-1 - Luke Freeman (2), Marcel

Despite getting scored on in the 3rd minute, and being one man down after 20, Freeman and Marcel scored in the 2nd half to get the win.

25th: vs Wycombe - League 1 - W 4-1 - Marcel (2), Ryan Conroy, Fabio Borini

We dominated Wycombe in our second encounter this month.

29th: at Aston Villa - League Cup 2nd Round - L 2-4 - Fabio Borini (2)

A bit misleading as we were down 3-0 after 45 minutes. Borini scored twice as a substitute to make the score respectable.

Thanks. I signed a lot of players on relative big paypackets but have depth at all positions now. I'm aiming for promotion, but not taking anything as a given. I'm taking it one game at a time.

Thanks. I didn't find Luke Freeman through scouts or anything, but through the transfer clauses, and I loaned him in January. He did well, so this year, I loaned him for the entire season. He belonged to The Gills from the beginning, so I'm hoping I can sign him permanently one day.

We were in control from start to finish.

15th: vs Northampton - League 1 - D 1-1 - Reinhard Breinburg

I had fancied a better result, but I'll move on taking the point.

19th: at Port Vale - League 1 - D 0-0

No excuses here. My strikers aren't doing much.

22nd: at Norwich - League 1 - L 0-1

First loss of the year, because Paul Rodgers scored an own goal.

29th: vs Colchester - League 1 - W 1-0 - Luke Freeman

Good to end the month on a win.

I've also had a look at the future of the Senegal national team, and I found a couple who I can add to my Gills club: Ibrahima Mbaye, and Pape Cissokho. They need some caps and a work permit. I'll fix that no problem though.

I also need a better right midfielder, and my ass man recommended a Dutchman and a Norweigan. I'm still deciding whether to put in a bid for either of them right now. With Gashi, I wouldn't mind waiting till 2013 in hopes of signing him on a free. I wouldn't mind putting in a bid of Roest, although I'll definitely have competition with Championship clubs.

Both of my club's shots on target were goals.

9th: vs Luton - Johnstone's Paint Trophy South 2nd Round - W 2-1 - Johan Svensson, Marcel

Even possession, but we had more scoring chances and capitalized on them.

20th: vs Swindon - League 1 - W 2-1 - James Dunne, Luke Freeman

A goal by Freeman in the 85th minute gave us all the points against rivals Swindon.

Another win against my rivals.

A dull game with minimal scoring opportunities for both sides. We did win in the end.

We didn't have much possession, but errors by Morecambe were costly and my strikers scored in the 41st and 45th+1 minutes.

We controlled the whole game.

We were clearly the better team. Grays didn't get a shot till the 90th minute, and that one was off target. Luke Freeman got injured though. He's out till next month.

We led 3-0 after half-time. I'm just relieved we got 3 points.

Even game, but all of our shots were goals, and Peterborough only had one shot on target.

Many opportunities. No goals. Feeling pressure from Burnley for top spot.

We were attacking more during the game than Preston, and more scoring chances meant more goals.

18th: vs Colchester - Johnstone's Paint Trophy South Semi Final - W 3-0 - Johan Svensson, Andrea Mutombo

Possession was split again, but more attacking opportunities = win!

22nd: at Cardiff - League 1 - W 2-1 - Marcel, Fabio Borini

A tough match, as Cardiff dominated most of the game, but I went all attack, and an 85th minute goal by Borini means I'm still in 1st.

26th: vs Leyton Orient - League 1 - W 2-0 - Luke Freeman, Paul Rodgers

My team controlled this match against lowly Leyton Orient.

29th: vs Grimsby - League 1 - W 5-2 - Marcel (3), Fabio Borini (2)

We led 4-0 after halftime, where the game was pretty much over.

5th: at Sunderland - FA Cup 3rd Round - L 0-2

Considering that we led Sunderland scoreless for 76 minutes is an achievement. Leadbitter and Bojinov scored for Sunderland.

9th: at Burnley - League 1 - L 0-1

With this loss, I'm still in 1st, but Burnley are only 2 points behind. We also played with 9 men in the latter part of the 2nd Half.

A 77th minute goal still keeps The Gills in 1st.

We totally outplayed Chesterfield, but only a draw. Burnley overtakes us on GD.

Wolves took an early lead, but Gallo's goal in the 54th minute drew us level, and both teams took one point.

21st: at Barnsley - Championship - D 2-2 - Renzo Gallo (2)

Barnsley went ahead 2-0 after 32 minutes and into halftime. However, after some tactical adjustments, Gallo scored 2 goals for a draw.

28th: at MK Dons - Championship - D 1-1 - Marcel

Minimal chances for both sides, and a draw was the likeliest result.
