I can't believe that the legend is gone.
People will be talking about this for years to come. A true FM legend.
Nep - Are you going to give Cully a couple of seasons to see if he can cut it or will you look at maybe ending the save?
Yeah, I'm playing with Cully for a few years. He's taring it up already this season. I didn't play on stopping this game when Smylie retired anyway, still got a few demons to slay, yet![]()
I know I am a bit late but I'm just catching up with this.
Absolutely gutted to see Smylie has retired. All we have now is the memories and about a million screenshots.
Really disappointed he didn't go on to become a staff member though.Did you try to encourage him Nep?
I could almost hear you welling up in that post. It's a very sad day indeed but Smylie will always be a legend on these forums.![]()
Such an abrupt ending
Just to reiterate what everyone's said: brilliant achievements in terms of the game; brilliant stuff with the storytelling. WP sir.
Such a shame it had to end this way
A career that is beyond words Nep, and something that will be talked about for years and years to come, you should be very proud![]()
Thanks lads.![]()
This career has become such a massive part of me- I genuinely don't know when would be the right time to let go. Cully is looking to be a real prospect, however, and I think I'm going to give him a good few years, to see if he can hit 1,000 goals, before deciding on what to do next. I'd like to win the Champs League again, too. Things should start moving quicker now, too, as I'm no longer Dungiven Manager
![]()
Smylie is no more!?!![]()
A real shame it came about so quickly with no move into the backroom.
How old was Wallace when he retired as coach? And how old are you in game now Nep?![]()
Smylie goneBest FM player I've ever seen.
Andrew Smylie- Best Player Ever
Almost on page 2- I'm here to save you, Knockbreda..!!
FWIW - currently coming towards the end of another season. Will have an update in the next few days I hope. Going on strong.....
What do you mean by page 2?? Looking forward to the update...

Knockbreda Parish FC, Season 47 [2054/2055]
To Begin...
I have waited. I have waited. I have waited. An then, I waited some more. So it came to a shock to me, to see that my former player, and coach Ally Magowan, to be named new N. Irish Manager. What really bugs me, is that Kerr wasn't sacked, and didn't resign. This just... "happened". So I don't know how long I'm going to have to wait, until I can become the N. Irish manager.....

The Player
Chris Cully - Such a talented young player. Already following heavily in the footsteps of Smylie, as premature as that may sound. He picked up a couple awards this season, and finished top goal scorer for the club. Smylie scored 85 goals in his first season, when the domestic scene was so much easier, so for Cully to bag 76 goals in his first campaign, only makes me think he's going to be a superstar.
Summary
A pretty decent season. I only won the league on the last day of the season, after Linfield went 27-2-1 to my 27-3-0. It was so close, and I was genuinely worried, as for me, after 22 games, I was 19-3-0, and linfield already had played 28 games, being 25-2-1. So I literally had to win every single game, otherwise the title would have changed hands for the first time in 42 years. Most of my team is unhappy, want to leave, want to win trophies- or want to move to a bigger club. I genuinely fear that in 3-5 seasons, I could just be an also ran of a club.
Can you post a screenshot of your game status please?
Cully looks pretty good Nep
Complete bummer about the N.Ireland job though, it's an outrage!![]()
Nice to see you are getting a bit of competition in the league
Gutting about the NI job though![]()
112 days
Didnt you have control of two clubs?
He did, but then he gave up Dungiven to concentrate on Knockbreda as he didn't have as much time as he used to have to play FM.
I expect he's needed that extra time that would have otherwise been spent at Dungiven to help Knockbreda stay on top in Northern Ireland. If he was still playing with Dungiven as well, i'd imagine that he'd have lost the league title by now.
Yeah I took control of Dungiven for 5 (maybe 6) years. It was at a time when I had a lot of spare time, and could manage to do so. But as hamilton said, I now don't have the time to play as much as before, and it's beginning to get tougher with Knockbreda (which I'm actually happy about).
It'll be hard to take the first time I don't win the league, as it was with the cups (I've now not won them all, at some stage, after a good 20 year period of winning everything). I desperately need to hold on to the league though, as because I've not been doing all that great in the Champions League, only 1st place in NIP gets to the Champs League, instead of 1st and 2nd, as it was for about 15 years.
Linfield are a very strong team, and often spend 3-5 million pounds on players from Prem / Championship in England. I have no idea what the financial state of the club is, but I'm guessing pretty good.
can you post a pic of the finance in NI? so we can see how your dominance and finance has impacted on other teams. As in gaining acces to Europe regular due to your success. Also from revenues and transfers. Some of the cash must have filtered down into NI clube over the years
Hmmm.... How do I access that page?
Oh, never mind, I have it.
Not much change then
No one has really done well as a resul of your success. I thought your league may have developed as a result of you doing so well
Yeah, it's pretty intense. It's a bit "false" - too, as probably half of that (infact, I'd guess almost exactly half of that) - is the game open, while my laptop is on, and I'm not playing it. It takes me roughly 24 hours to complete a season, along with Dungiven seasons, I've probably had about 50 days of actual playing time.
@NepentheZ Nice job with this save..![]()

Thanks, vii.
I'm currently playing this along side my FM10 save, so updates will be a bit slow. I was caught in 2 minds. Do I want to become an ever dominant force again with Knockbreda, and try to win the Champs League again, or do I want to take a Level 10 team in England to the Prem. Well, I want to do both- And so I'll try.
What a brilliant save and good luck with the FM10 saves.

N. Irish Player of the Year - Chris Cully
NIP Young Player of the Year - Bernard Carriere
The Player
Carriere - This guy was sensational this season. A new signing, highly recommended by my scouts, and he delivered. He has progressed nicely, and really looks like a top player. Hopefully I can keep him for his career.!
Chris Cully - Another sensational season from the teen. 17 years old, picked up 109 goals this season. Considering how hard the league is these days, that's nothing short of remarkable.
Summary
A very impressive season. Didn't win all the domestic trophies, (A damn penalty loss to Linfield) - But I think the team is back in a dominant position. Goals are flowing again, and I only didn't beat Linfield once this season, in about 8 games. Just shows I'm back there. My young stars are a year older, a year better and hopefully a year closer to getting me another Champions League title. I'm looking to really expand my team every year, to give myself the best shot, and already have 3 or 4 player lined up for next season.
Incredible how you keep getting your strikers to blast in ridiculous amounts of goals. Great stuff.
Cheers Jonny![]()
I gets no love these days![]()
Because the two main legends retired, getting more players past 1,000 is just ridiculous![]()
Glad this is still going
Always good to see updates as my Icelandic team is in a similar position. In the mid-2050's, facing increasing pressure domestically (most noticeably by a second team I took over, inspired by Dungiven) and hoping to restore past glories in Europe.
Well done Nep!
Doesn't mean you're getting love, I'm just being nice

An excelent season Nep, especially from Cully, he looks like a fantastic prospect.
Happy now?
Get your own game Tom! The wink is mine!

Meh, better ... but yeah![]()
reading this thread for the first time, this is amazing, fantastic acheievments over and over again!!!!
Thanks
I'm half way through my next season. Just lost interest in Football Manager a little atm though. MW2 / FIFA / World Cup 2010 taking over for me atm.![]()
Any more updates on this Nep? I loved reading the big bag of mental that was the Knockbreda story.
I haven't actually played this in a long time. Other things taking my time atm. Have just opened up FM08 now though. So will try to get through a season over the next couple of days.

NIP Young Player of the Year - Bernard Carriere
The Player
Carriere - Another sensational season from this guy. He picked up 71 assists, and generally dominated the league. Sad thing is, he's getting attention form massive clubs now, and wants to move. I've got him for 4 more seasons though, so he can do a lot of damage in that time.
Chris Cully - Getting better every year. Happy to stay at the club, even with the advances of Porto, Arsenal and Chelsea. 134 goals this season, and even scored for N. Ireland, in a 1-1 Draw v Faeroe Islands. Can see him breaking 2,500 goals if he sticks with the club, but needs to put up some big numbers in the next 5 years if he wants 3,000.
Summary
A decent season. Made it to the Quarters of the Euro Cup, which isn't bad. I've got quite a young team at the moment, and I feel, if I can keep them, within 5 years I can win the Champions League again. Made a decent amount of money last season, and really began to dominate domestically again, only a Penalty loss in the All Ireland Cup costing me the clean sweep. I have 3 or 4 players I want for next season, and really need a couple defenders in the center, as I'm leaking more goals than I should be, but overall, I'm impressed with the season. Moved up to 9th in the richest clubs in the world, which is nice.
Also, next season will be my 50th in charge of Knockbreda, and an extra speacial end of season update will be in order.![]()
Just to let you guys know, I've also just applied to become the manager of Scotland. Hopefully taking any step onto international management, will help me get that N. Irish managers job.
I didn't get the job![]()
Another top season NepHopefully Cully can start to develop more and smash in the goals that he needs to be in contention for 3000

Kutgw!! 10 10 10
Ok guys, a bit of a happy, and sad message here.
As I'm in my 50th season, I think this would be a good time to call the save a day. It's been nearly 3 years on and off gaming time, which is a lot of dedication to 1 save. However, I'm just not having fun with the save anymore. Domestically dominant, continentally inferior. I just can't attract any world class players to my club anymore. (No idea why, in all honesty) - And my first 11 now consists of 5 players from my very own youth system. While that's good on the domestic basis, that I can win things with my home grown players, I'm just unable to compete with the big guns of Europe.
That being said, I'm going to continue the season, finish it, have 1 last mammoth End of Career update, and then store the save game in my external hard drive. That way, if I ever I want to play another season here or there, I can. (PRobably will do, actually, after I get my iMac)
So yeah.... in the coming weeks, I'll be finishing this off.
Also want to call time on it, so I can get into a FM10 save before FM11 is released, and then get into an FM11 save. At the moment, it's so hard, because of FM08![]()
That's the trouble, I think. You've spoilt yourself with this save and probably need to come to a (temporary) end in order to move on to FM10.
Sad to see you leave it but I know you'll be back here again in the future.![]()
It's been a great save
:'(
A fantastic save Nep and one that deserves its place in the hall of fame. But as C. says, probably best to leave it (maybe temporarily) to move on to something new on FM10.
I haven't read the whole thread, but do you ever manage to win CL?
Yeah he does - 3 times I think. A sad day. Great career.
If you read just the opening post, all the relevant info is there.
However, yes, I managed to win it, 3 timesChampions League : 2037, 2044, 2047![]()
What an epic career, HoF thread here we come.
Hats off to you Nep, in Wallace, Dunlop and Smylie you have 3 of the greatest players of all time.
A sad day for the forums as the most well known thread throughout them comes to an end, be it permentant or temporary, but it's the right decision.
I wish you the best of luck with your future adventures into the unknown, and who knows, maybe another Knockbreda-esque epic could be on the cards in Gundo's Challenge on FM11![]()
I'm hoping![]()
Nep, do you plan on coming back to Northern Ireland in further editions of FM? Or will you take a break and head back to the bigger leagues of Europe.. or perhaps another minnow nation?
Anyway, you've done a brilliant job with Knockbreda - in fact, this thread was my main inspiration in my Northern Ireland save which is up to 2021 now - though it isn't anywhere near as illustrious as yours. Smylie and the likes have been a huge inspiration and congratulations on having such a legendary save.![]()
Cheers man.
I don't know if I'll go back. It would be hard, due to the success I've already had there. Might try another small nation, or might tuck in to a 10 tier challenge in FM11.
At least you wouldn't struggle to keep players if you did the 10 tier challenge once you hit the top! Although can't see you dominating the league so much!![]()
That's an epic game you've had there. Astonishing that you have managed to keep it going for so long and have been able to enjoy so much success.
I'd love to attempt something similar and most probably will (attempt, not succeed) somewhere down the line after reading all of this.
Come back soon!
imagine this save on fm11 with dynamic leage rep
Had to save this thread, fallen way to far. Come on Nep give us one more season![]()
It's already in the making![]()
I have just finished reading this thread, it took me four days reading bits here and there - and what a story!
It makes me jealous really, as the achievements are just... bloody hell!
Well done Nep. I really got into this and I nearly had a tear in my eye when Smylie retired, it was like someone dying a film!.... Almost!
Anyway, I still think another season or ten can be done yet![]()
.. FIFA Ultimate Team happened
Sorry. I haven't played any for of FM for many months. I can't honestly see myself playing again until FM12 is released. When I find the time, I will finish the current season, upload it, and retire myself in the game, to officially bring this thread to a close![]()
Would you upload your save somewhere?
Yeah sure. It's on my Hard Drive at home, so I'll upload it when I get home tomorrow![]()
Thanks, Nep.
No problem dude.
Neppo is a top fifa youtuber now, he should do an FM series on it.
I'd like that too, but as he has said in his YouTube videos that FM just isn't the same game anymore. He says it's way too complicated for a game, and takes too much time. That's why he isn't really interested in playing more FM. He has actually had FM12 for a looong time, because his girlfriend bought it for him, but he hasn't even unpacked it and played it yet. Also, with the pub he runs, and his own YouTube channel, he simply doesn't have the time to play FM.
If you're reading this and didn't know about his YouTube channel and are interested, you can visit his channel at: www.YouTube.com/NepentheZ
I'm going to close this, Nep can ask a mod if he wants it re-opened.
I've deleted all the stupid posts, pending Moderator decisions.
Some of you need to realise people share these stories for your enjoyment, they owe you nothing.
