WOW Nepz, I just loved reading about your career, this save looks awesome I'd love to have a save like this going on so long but i get bored after 7 or 8 seasons. I've been playing since the old CM was on the Amiga, with the legendary Nii Lamptey but new to these forums. I've never seen anything like this, your story has inspired me to try for something similar when FM10 comes out.

Just came back to the forums as I have decided to give the game another go in FM2010 after completely failing to enjoy 2008 and therefore not bothering to buy 2009.

Been really enjoying this read....I am stunned by the stats / goals etc. Regardless that he is playing in N Ireland this is phenomenal.

Anyway the main question I have is how has he not been sold. As a player who preferred playing in less popular leagues like Denmark, Sweden and Belgium etc I found it almost impossible to keep a hold of players. Only real success I had with FM2008 was with FC Copenhagen. Won the league 5 years out of 5 but after 5 years my team was decimated as every player wanted to leave or had to be sold as basically their morale was rock bottom and performances were beginning to really drop.

The main player I had was Bogdan Stancu, scored 170 goals in 5 seasons and was subject to bids from every club you could imagine on a weekly basis during transfers windows. Surely clubs of a far higher stature have made bids.

I am going to keep reading this in the hope that the magic 3000 goals will be broken. Surely got to be one of the greatest achievements by any human player in the FM Series or formerly CM series during the 90's

Summary

An ok season. Didn't get as far in the Champs League as I'd like to. Domestically, won everything again. The clubs have gotten about as close to me as possible now in my opinion, which means I'll be dominating for as long as I want. Need to start freshening the team up with some good young players, as most of my team is in its 30's now

Interesting. Didn't want my post to sound negative in that you should have sold him or that the game should have sold him on your behalf....I was really interested in finding out how you were able to keep him so long. Might look to employ your philosophy in FM10.

Looking at his stats for the end of season post I think the 3000 mark should just be achievable. 15 finishing and 12 pace should still be good enough to get him over the line since you continue to dominate your league..........interesting to see if he can do it in the next 2 seasons. My guess is 95-105 this season (injury free fingers crossed) and then that leaves him 35-45 the following season.........do you think he will stretch to 3 more seasons or do you think he will need to do it in the next 2???

I think he needs to get there in the next 2 seasons. He no longer gets picked for N. Ireland, and isn't really getting the job done at the moment. 9 Goals in 11 games so far this season. Hopefully, he can bag about 80 goals this season though. If he doesn't get that close, then it could be touch and go. I think I will NEED him for 3 more years, but weather or not he retires before that, I don't know. I hope not

Not a bad season. Poor Champs League performance, but my main goal over the next 2-3 seasons, is to keep Smylie playing, and then convince him to become a staff member. After that, I will concentrate on building another champions league winning tam.

Fernando Castanho - This guy has the potential to be the next big thing here at Knockbreda. The only downside is, he isn't getting a Work Permit for a new contract, and this is his last year.

Andrew Smylie - Still managed to get 55 goals in a season where he really shouldn't. He'll be 37 this season, and thats crazy, that he can still put the goals away.

Summary

A real good season. Still shown that domestically I'm the dominant force, but more importantly, I've spent the entire season heavily scouting, and have found a good 10-12 players that I think could potentially take me to champions league glory again, within the next 3 seasons.

For those that are still following this (Which doesn't seem many now )

I've assembled a fantastic squad in the close season from my last update, and am back winning games like I was back in the 2030's. What I was finding was, that towards the end of the season (especially around April, when I would often play 20 games that month) - I was really struggling to put teams to bed, and my team was getting exhausted due to the high number of games, and due to this, I wasn't really playing to my potential, and struggled to win games, especially in the champions league. What I have now, is pretty much the make up of 3 teams. I've never had a team this size, (and feel like I'm struggling to manage so many players) - but most of them are 17-21, and don't really expect first team football just yet. In the next 3-5 seasons, I expect these players to grow, and the good players I currently have to stay just as good, and hope that for the first time ever, I can win back to back champions league titles.

I signed 9 players in the transfer window, spending £12,000,000 (which is massive for me) - I managed to steal young players (Cesc Fabregas from Barce to Arsenal style) from Arsenal, Spurs, Birmingham and Everton, as well as capturing easily my best ever player (yes, imo better than Smylie) being an AM RC called Pablo Romero, who cost me £6,250,000. He's already 23 years old, but has 17 caps and 2 goals for Uruguay.

So there it is ladies and gents.



And believe me or not, that is his 3,000 career goal. He is now just 63 away from the next target. And thats 3,000 goals for Knockbreda. If he carries on the way he's started the season, I see no reason why he won't reach that target.

It definitely makes it worth ignoring FM10 to carry on with this save, when I get humbled with such amazing responses. I am immensely proud that Smylie has reached 3,000 goals. Who would have thought it. I don't think I'm close to finding someone to getting 3,000 again, let alone 5,000 - quite simply because, I don't dominate teams like I used to any more. In fact, this current campaign, will be mighty close as to weather or not I win the league. (well, thats how it looks 20 games in).

But yeah, Smylie to 3,000 Club goals is my next target. After that, who know If I keep playing him, maybe he will carry on 'till he is 40. I just need to get the N. Irish job to give him 2 more Caps so that he becomes the all time cap holder, as well as goal scorer.

Not progressing like I'd hoped. I sent him out on loan last season, and he scored 12 in 24 (which isn't great, for the loan club he went to) - and his attributes have declined in the last 12 months. I don't think he's going to be my next big thing

After a while, it got too easy with Knockbreda, they people suggested I should try and do the same with another team, while managing Knockbreda. So, Dungiven were the first team I had the chance to take over (A team with no history, and never been in the leagues) - and that took about 5 years to wait for

Youth Player 1 - 14 years he's spent as Smylies partner up front so far. The guy is already 30, and thats crazy. I thought Smylie would bow out age 33 or 34, and that YP1 would take the glory years for a good 7 or 8 seasons, but Smylie keeps ploughing on. YP1 has been getting the awards recently, due to Smylies demise, and hopefully, he will go onto his 1,000 career goals, and put himself right up there alongside Wallace and Smylie.

A very, very difficult season. I lost a couple of games I shouldn't have, my first game in 33 seasons in the League Cup, and Drew far too many in the league. It was close right up to about match day 25, when Linfield finally began to drop points, and allow me to take top spot. A tense season, the sooner Smylie hits 3,000, the better, because I need a 100% Striker there in the coming seasons, not an old boy

I'll play his career out. I'm going to wait for the patch for FM10. I just really didn't enjoy my first 6 months on 10.0.1.

Also, I want to see if YP1 can get 1,000 assists

I'm not sure. Might give the Level 10 challenge another shot, because the idea of that blows me away - For some reason, it really wouldn't feel right if I got Knockbreda on another save
