Crouchy as one of the most legendary managers of this forum do you want to set up the Hall Of Fame as a thread?
Also shall we limit the amount of threads that can go in in a month/week or whatever? I.e. One a month can be added
Very kind of you to say such a thing Flamers.
I think it's best to wait to see what response others have and, in particular, the Moderators, who may have their own ideas about it.
I'm copying my original post below, seeing as we are now on a new page and it has got lost on the previous one!
It's only the truth :P
Great idea Crouchy. I don't think it should be one a month. The reason for this is there many great career saves that happen. Dafuge's from FM10 as well as yours Crouchy. The problem you would have is that there are some decent career threads at the moment which are good. So you would have kind of figure a fair way out. Great idea though and lets hope it works.
I mean so you can't add like 100 to them, limit the number. I'm not sure the way to do it.
I would contact the mods in FMS--they have an established procedure that seems to work well. Nominations are, I think, twice a year with votes once a year. But I'm a relative noob, so tenthreeleader or gavrenwick would be a better source.
I seem to remember there was some discussion about a hall of fame in the past and I think last time I said that I thought it would be best if it was integrated into the annual awards. With the annual nature of FM, a lot of the careers here will naturally come to an end as the new version of FM approaches, so to me that seems like the most obvious time to consider threads to be inducted.
Personally I would be against a sub forum, it just seems unneccessary. A stickied thread with links to all the inducted threads would be a much better format in my opinion.
Does anyone have a link to the FMS hall of fame? The links in the forum header are dead.
Hi guys, I've just bought a new laptop and thus thinking of getting a journeyman career started on FM. I know what leagues i'm going to load, I'm just bit confused by player count really.
Specs; Intel dual core i3 processor m380 2.53ghz, 4GB ram.
Has anyone got a similar to this and what setup do you use?
Help appreciated!
Gundo.
With the hyperthreading on i3 cores I have a close setup: Q9000 quad @2Ghz per core 4GB Ram. I run 78,000 players and 80+ leagues, it's a bit slow but I don't mind it's roughly 24 hours of game time for a season in Iceland.
That was roughly the amount of players I was thinking of loading, but was only going to load 25 playable leagues.
I just used a default "large" database thats why I loaded so many leagues![]()
How does loading more players impact on a save in terms of slowing things down?
Players are quicker than leagues I think
Ok cheers Flamers. I'm going to try a game with 25 leagues loaded and 75k players (my limit according to FM) and see how I get on.
If you have patience then a game speed of 1.5 star will be fine, if your less patient then 2.5 should be you lowest
Storing their history and generating their statistics, I would guess.
Not sure about that. In my experience, larger database sizes really do slow down the game, especially in the long-run. Obviously, more leagues equals a bigger database anyway!
How do I load players from one of the levels below in the pyramid below the lowest active division in a nation?
The reason I'm asking is because, I plan to start my save in Italy loading all playable divisions, however i don't want to load all players based in Italy (far too many - some 18,000!) so was thinking maybe I could load players from the next level only in Serie D?
Does anybody know how to do this?
Last edited by Gundo; 16-03-2011 at 14:42.
The reason for saying that is that it has to generate results in more detail if you run leagues AND keep the player data. With just players it quick generate and player data![]()
Empty now.![]()
ok not sure how to do this im in season 2025/26 of my sunderland game ive been playing since 11.0 now i want to put it into a thread but not sure how to recap the last 15 seasons, any help?
Whenever I get so far ahead I just post league table, results and best 11 gives a good enough round up in my opinion.
Try a Dafuge style summary of each season maybe?
anyone know how to fix my stadium name? got a new ground now a few seasons later the name has gone AWOL!
Check in the bugs bit I saw something about this...
People of FMCU - Please help me with my dilemma!
I'm calling on the good people of FMCU to help me in a massive career decision:
First things first, below you can find the table and see the situation we find ourselves in, along with the current position of Lazio in the league:
We're struggling along, picking up the odd draw and very occasional win. I feel we're doing okay, although we have dropped points to Mantova and Livorno, which is not good. However, we have beaten Parma and Lazio. In general, I'm feeling fairly happy with how things are going and I do think we can do enough to stay up, although it's going to be very tough and there is no way it's going to be an easy ride.Code:| Pos | Inf | Team | | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 14th | | Livorno | | 13 | 3 | 5 | 5 | 8 | 17 | -9 | 14 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 15th | | Empoli | | 13 | 3 | 4 | 6 | 11 | 15 | -4 | 13 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 16th | | Verona | | 13 | 2 | 5 | 6 | 12 | 19 | -7 | 11 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 17th | | Reggina | | 13 | 2 | 3 | 8 | 7 | 19 | -12 | 9 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 18th | | Lazio | | 13 | 2 | 2 | 9 | 8 | 18 | -10 | 8 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 19th | | Mantova | | 13 | 1 | 4 | 8 | 8 | 28 | -20 | 7 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 20th | | Parma | | 13 | 1 | 3 | 9 | 10 | 29 | -19 | 6 | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Then, suddenly, Lazio sack their manager and ask me if I want the job. Now, here comes the dilemma: this looks like a huge opportunity for me to move onwards and upwards in my managerial career but, at the same time, I love Hellas Verona and feel an emotional attachment to them.
On the pros side, just look at that transfer budget! Looking at their squad, I can see there is enough talent there already for me to get them out of trouble, and if I can spend the transfer budget, it means that I can do some good business in January and have a great chance of pushing them back up the table. With the transfer money, I could also bring my favourites like Davide Vangi and Luca Ricci with me to the capital. This is an opportunity to move to the capital, take over one of the biggest clubs in Italy, spend some money and push them on. In the longer term, a push for Europe would be realistic and this could lead to bigger things for me. This could be a great stepping stone on to an even bigger club. A couple of decent finishes with Lazio could see the offers come in from a Champions League outfit; a place where I could challenge for titles and trophies at the very top of the game!
On the cons side, I would always have to wonder what could have been with Verona. My emotional attachment is very strong and I'll feel sad to leave. But I have to ask the question: what can Verona do for my managerial career? At the moment, not enough is probably the answer. Progress is going to be slow, there isn't a lot of money to spend and I could end up fighting for survival or heading towards mid-table mediocrity for quite a few more seasons to come. Maybe I have used Hellas Verona for as much as I can get right now. Verona would always be in my heart but I must be ruthless and think only of my managerial career!
Tough one, isn't it? So, people of FMCU, your advice would be appreciated!

id move its a step forwards a few bad results at verona you could go down and be set back a few more seasons, onwards and upwards my good man!
Go, you've been loyal enough to them. And think of all the virtual money you can make in manager salaries at Lazio!![]()
Yes, that's my feeling too. As it's a journeyman save, it seems I need to make the best decision to suit my career!
That's true Rancer. I've taken them back to Serie A and built a decent enough team which has a good chance to stay there. I think the fans would be disappointed but would understand on some level. At least I wouldn't be moving to one of their hated rivals as well. Apparently Hellas fans and Lazio fans have a 'friendship' in real life.
But I'm a man of principles Rancer: I'll only move for footballing reasons, not for money!![]()
Hehe, wait till they REALLY offer you 22.5k a week...
Some think loyalty is staying with a club for a long time, some say loyalty is staying with them in times of struggle when they really need you. You've been with them for a long time already. Now, can you bring them to greater heights? Can you win titles with Verona? Do you have the potential to win titles with Lazio? Is the likelihood of you winning with Lazio higher than with Verona?
You don't owe anything to them, you brought them back to where they belong. Now you should go to a club where your career can benefit the most.
(my definition of loyalty might offer from yours, but in all my career games I've stayed at clubs for 4-5 years, with the exception of a couple clubs. So I'm quite loyal, but I leave for a new club because I have nothing left to prove and I've accomplished everything I've had to. I have no regrets about leaving because I brought them trophies and really elevated the status of the clubs.) It's a little sad to leave but it's ultimately best for me to go for a new challenge and learn something new and experience new things, like a journey.![]()
Anyone that knows my FMing or that has read my continental threads will know that I love playing in New Zealand. The problem with long term games there is that there is no competition outside of the Club World Cup thingy. I would really love to start a game with New Zealand based teams competing in the Asian Champions League and the Oceanic one like Mexican teams competing in North and South American continental competition. Does anyone know any way this can be edited to happen, all I have seen is it might be possible if you recreate both competitions but that would take me a long long time. Any ideas?
I think you would have to rebuild them both.. I'm not sure honestly..
That seems really complicated when looking in the editor.
I have only got to the point where I can rebuild countries.. Never tried continental competitions...
Can countries be swapped so New Zealand is placed in Asia and the lowest ranked Asian nation moved to Oceania?
I don't mind not playing in the OFC Champions League. I just want to try and build up a New Zealand team over 50 seasons as the seasons are very fast there.
I'm not sure if it chooses the selection trough the ID numbers?
That's where I begin to get a bit lost, I understand that everything has an ID number but that is all I understand. I wish editing was a lot more simple.
I THINK that is selects teams based on the unique ID
I take it you cannot swap the id numbers or anything like that?
Not sure but I don't think so cos they are greyed out
will it work if i swap the southern boundry for it?
not swap more extend
from the way i understand its the edge boundry for inclusion in the competition
Worth looking into for sure.
Just read a few threads on the Hall of Fame and well fair play some of them made me laugh so if your bored go have a look especially the threads http://community.sigames.com/showthr...*?daysprune=-1 and OTF i need help...Brilliant posts from nearly 10 years ago
I feel slightly rancid after reading that, is that normal?
This one is good: http://community.sigames.com/showthr...F?daysprune=-1
I'm always interested in hearing how other people play the game and I got curious about my fellow FMCUers. I thought perhaps we could have some more discussions in here about how we play the game.
To start off with, I thought it might be interesting to talk about tactics. I know some of you have some tactical talk in your career threads but I also thought it might be an interesting discussion to have here in our discussion thread. So, I was just wondering how you all like to set up tactically on FM.
What formations do you like? What sort of football do you try to play? Do you use the tactics creator or set up your own tactics? What is your philosophy? And so on and so forth.
Personally, after years of slider love, I came over to the way of the TC and I really enjoy using it now. I've tried pretty much all of the formations but seem to have gone back to 4-4-2 of late in a fit of nostalgia. I've always tried to play football in the way that I like to see it played in real life, which is basically getting the ball down, using the flanks and attacking with pace. I used to use the rigid philosophy quite a bit because I liked the mentality structure but I've recently been using the fluid philosophy more often due to the greater creative freedom and the fact it seems to add an unpredictable quality to attacks. I love playing around with the tactical side of the game and so I've tried most things on FM at some point but this is currently my favourite way to set up.
Over to you guys. Hope it should spark an interesting discussion.![]()
im strange with tactics ive got three formations i really like and i shoehorn my squad into one then repeatly use that till im in desperate need for a change, for example my sunderland game is a 4-3-3 formation as ive always loved the idea of a narrow pile alot of players into the opposition box stlye of play works brilliant for counter attacking. or the short slow passing game im playing now.
also love 4-4-2 old skool with two wingers bombing down the flanks with the full backs overlapping
and finally i like a 5-3-2 formation with wing backs grew up watching brazil with the liks of cafu and roberto carlos as wingbacks and have used it a few times with various degrees of success, i actually might have a go at making another one soon mm wing backs![]()
Currently playing lower leagues and a 4-4-1-1 rigid philisophy, stick to position, less creative freedom. Always seems to work a treat in the divisions where skill is rationed.
My preferred formation is a balanced 4-4-2, this is how the beautiful game should be played! One tall, strong striker, one short, fast striker, two wingers and a flat back four. The two centre-midfielders get adjusted depending on the personnel. Nothing over-elaborate too, a simple short passing game and well drilled set-pieces. The tactic creator helps this, but I would still aim to play this way without it. I always like to aim to have the best defence in the league, it distresses me big time if we concede loads of goals. A 2-0 win is the ideal scoreline as far as I'm concerned!![]()
After a move to Brazil my team lacks wingers and every other side plays a 4-2-2-2 so I might have a go at creating one but not sure on roles and stuff. Surely no wide players makes attacking a bit boring and narrow. Since 11.3 I have struggled to defend no matter what tactic I use.
I am a big fan of the flat back three right now. I vary from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3. Due to my players being superstars in the Icelandic league I have a Fluid philosophy but in Europe I will go back to my Standard philosophy. I also had mixed success with a 5-1-1-2-1 early in my career.
I am also a very strong believer in the "pass the ball into the net" style of football, none of my players have long shots higher than "Sometimes". Because of this I am looking for pacey strikers all the time.
Also should we create a tactics discussion thread or not?
One formation that consistently does well for me is the 4-1-3-2, which is 1 defensive mid and 3 centre mids. I have used this for the majority of the time in the past few versions of fm. Occasionally I'll have to change it if results aren't coming. In my current save I had to mix it up a bit when we were promoted to the Swedish Premier Division but after a few seasons of safety I have now reverted back to the 4-1-3-2 which seems to be working reasonably well.
At home I set the team instructions to "control" or "standard" and away from home to "counter" or "defensive". Since my team isn't the most gifted I have set all their long shots to rarely as I am sick of seeing them wasting a perfectly good attacking move by blasting the ball out of the stadium from 25 yards out.
It totally depends on my mood!
I have an adaptable 4-1-2-3 from my FM10 career which I still use, but I've played with 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 4-4-1-1, 4-1-2-1-2 and a flat 5-3-2.
I used to detest using wingers, but now I seem to be using them a lot more. I only seem to use Control or Counter instructions it seems, again a product of the teams I play.
I NEVER EVER EVER allow my players to take long shots, simply as I've never had one go in since FM09.

Also, is anyone else finding that they're conceding a lot of goals from rebounds?
i play a 4-3-2-1 with the 3 cms and then amr/aml supporting my lone striker. Very fluid short attacking game. I try to mimmick barcelona who ever i manage. But obviously when im Southampton i aint got no Messi's or Xavi's lol. I also play the same tactic home and away and dont change it
ive actually decided im fed up of 4-3-3 so im going to switch to 4-4-2 next season
After spending so much of my FM time playing with lone strikers and generally using 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 style formations, I have gone back to preferring to use two forwards. I always prefer four at the back, so this means 4-4-2.
For some reason, I've just fallen back in love with the 4-4-2, and I love the fact that it forces me generally to use more complete players rather than focusing on specialist positions more often.
I have been a big fan of the rigid philosophy because I prefer the mentality structure. With one midfielder playing a little deeper, two attacking wide players and one of my forwards playing deep, I can generally get a 4-2-3-1 shape out of my 4-4-2 as well.
Despite using rigid mentality, I generally add more free roles and more creativity when managing a quality side. I find this gives me a nice balance of playing good and attractive football, as well as also keeping things defensively sound.
What philosophies do the rest of you prefer?
It's funny how the the human mind doesn't really notice when "the" is used twice in a row>
Just wondering how far ahead people get in their saves before posting an update and if you prefer reading/writing monthly or seasonal updates?
I also use Word as I go along (I've learnt as I previously wrote it out in the reply box only for the page to crash!) and generally play 2 or 3 seasons before posting to make sure that i'll be playing the save and updating rather than posting a new thread only for it to be closed soon after. As for the regularity of updates, personally I prefer both writing and reading 2-3 updates a season (pre-season, mid-season, end of season) but that's just me. It's entirely up to you how often you update your thread
.
As for Crouchy's initial question...I personally prefer a 4-1-3-2 counter attacking formation as this tends to give me adequate balance throughout the squad while also allowing me to draw the opposition in before catching them on the break. A solid back 4 with a protecting anchor man, a central midfielder who can get forward with 2 wingers who can also come inside to help pack out the midfield, and 2 strikers, one dropping in the hole and one on the last mans shoulder. As for the philosphy of the team, it really depends on the standard and quality of the players I have. I usually start in the lower leagues so quality isn't that abundant, hence me opting for a rigid philosophy. I always found the sliders to be difficult to understand so when SI decided to implent the TC I was really pleased. I always use the TC now.
The tactics creator really has improved my enjoyment of FM tenfold - I can finally concentrate on the overall gameplan rather than all the minutiae which quite honestly bored me.
I play like this:
Balanced/standard for difficult games, Fluid/Control for games I'm favourite in. Creates some really great attacking football when it works well, I really love having a classic number 10 playmaking, and because my wingers are often shown inside by opposition fullbacks, the wingbacks get into some great positions on the overlap.Code:Wing Back Centreback Centreback Wing Back Automatic Defend Defend Automatic Defensive Mid Defensive Mid Defend Support Winger Advanced Playmaker Winger Attack Support Attack Advanced Forward Attack
An important change I've made to it recently was to give the supporting defensive midfielder more license to go forward - changing his "Forward Runs" to "Often". Really helps supplement the attacks when we've having trouble breaking the opposition down, scored a good few from him bursting into the box and finishing after some nice wingplay, or a great throughball from the playmaker.
quick ? how do i find out my players total games played for not just league games in there history..im struggling to find it
You have to view each season the player played in their history to see every game they played (eg click season 2010/11 for example and it'll show all the games).
Only if he is in the best 11 ever, I think that shows total appearances and goals.
Does anyone else find it difficult to sell certain players? and is there a upper age limit you keep players for? i always buy younger players keep them till 29/30 for outfield players and 30-35 for keepers before selling on as i like to get some money back for players, for instance its been a huge wrench to sell my number one keeper and a center midfielder ive had since they were in theri early 20s and have formed part of my spine for nearly 10 years.
I never sell due to age but I do try to bring players through as well so it becomes a bit of a balancing act. Over a few seasons the younger players take over from the older players and once the older players aren't first or second choice for their position I would usually look to move them on.
For instance my four DCs currently are 29, 30, 32 & 34 which is quite bad for me. The 34yo has lost a little pace but is still a good defender for the level while the 29yo is probably the worst of the four. End of this season I'll look to replace the 29yo & then end of next season the 34yo will probably retire at the end of his contract. That will leave me with a 32yo & a 34yo + two new signing between around 22 & 27. Haven't planned beyond that but its fair to say another will go at the end of that season.

my sides are always built around ayoung hungry team so i can make as much profit on players as possible and also keep a general rolling in and out put of players but some players stay longer, however as i normally have a a large section of players around the same age so i normally sell a chunk of them on due to age and the fact i dont like my squad dont getting too old.
I try to buy the best for each position for my budget and level. I'm not one to take the road most travelled, either.
I'm inspired to try to make an England-esque 4-3-3 now after the Ghana game
It's actually sort of close to the Barca system in the wide play at least. Pedro/Downing and Villa/Young cut inside, with Alves/Johnson and Cole/Maxwell overlapping. Main differences are the lack of a Busquets and the difference in movement of Messi who is a false 9 compared to Carroll/Bent's classic number 9 role.
Actually thinking about the press reaction to Wilshere playing deep against Denmark, I think if Busquets was English people would cry about him not being allowed to go forward... *facepalms*
I have a weird problem with some of my players statistics, does anyone know whats going on with this?
![]()
Its a known issue in the first season jarcar.
It seems to happen to random players for some reason but the good news is it fixes itself in the second season so its not an ongoing problem.
Thank god for that..thank you![]()
am i missing summit? :S
So... I tried to go back to my Trafford save. Played a few matches but couldn't get back into it. The team is the best in the world with some of the best players, winning the league is generally easy, and the only goal I really have is to get a new stadium as the 18,000 is holding us back something terribly. But that's still some 7 years away. Instead I started anew from the bottom. Haven't bought FM11, but is there any interest for a FM10 game around these parts?
I could just write it for myself, but with pictures and all it's a bit of work. Any format you prefer over others? I've not been around for half a year so not sure how this place has developed since then
The new save has been started using Uncle Ron's FM10 level 7-8 England file. I'm into the third season now.
id read it, i like reading these while playing my own game, personally i prefer to read once a season updates with maybe important info sprinkled through out the season posted, but its entirely upto you. good luck with it![]()
Yeah, go for it. Don't care what version it is as long as it's written well enough
His player is recording league statistics but nothing is showing up in the 'overall' column.
Hello everyone, I was thinking of starting a thread in this forum and wanted to do one of those 'code' boxes to put down relevant career info, league tables ect. Problem is I havent go much of a clue about this sort of thing. I was wondering if anyone could take the time out to explain to me how to do them.
If I can learn how to do this I think I can get a basic looking thread going.
Thanks, pezza1
The best way is asking permission and copying someone else'sBut basically in code a character is always the same width
![]()
Ok, but how do people get them organised into columns and rows? Please remember I am completely useless with this kind of thing!!
Just find a thread with the sort of table you like and ask someone if they can PM you the code they use, I am sure someone will do it as most on this forum are pretty helpful.
The best way is to copy the table into Word or Notepad or something. Then copy the column and use Insert, it the overwrites a character each time you type a new one![]()
It's very easy actually. Just go to a thread with a table like that and hit reply to their post. Then scroll to the section with the table. You'll see basically just text. But it's messy cause most likely the linebreaks are not the same. So copy that text and paste it into Notepad. Now it will look proper, with text in assorted columns. That's who it should be anyway. The easiest way to make them is to write what you want in Notepad, and use spacebar to separate the columns (not tab key). When you are happy you copy the whole shebang into the forum reply box. It must be within [ CODE ] tags (without space). Just use the code button in the reply box.
You'll get it soon. It sounds more complicated than it is![]()
Thanks for all you help guys!
