The game already has problems dealing with the level of players (not to mention rules) of level 8 football, so level 10 is pushing it too far in my opinion. Plus, all those added leagues and cups are bound to slow the game down over time, for very little added benefit once you (hopefully) climb up the league ladder.
Better to start from level 8 or 6 in England and include more nations. At least for us that don't have a PC nicked out of NASA's labs![]()
mines running fine from level 10 season in about 2 days but mines a beast and i can see how it would slow down![]()
haha I have just spent some time reading through that Havant & Waterlooville save that I did ages ago. The memories :*)
Cranked up FM and disaster, my Asia save has corrupted.
Was debating whether to start a new save in Africa, follow DodgeeD route and manage around the continent. Just got back from Tunisia and after seeing a couple of the stadiums in Sousse and on the flights in and out, its tempted me to have a game there. Just a little gutted with Asian save as I was enjoying it.
Shame about the save ToMexico!! Come join me in Africa then! There are plenty of .xml leagues available for many of the nations, big and small. LAways the chance to discover the next Weah, Eto'o or Drogba as well.![]()
@ToMexico! if you want a real challenge, try my Ethiopian Leagues. If you start anywhere but St. George, you start with, well, nothing. Fun, though.

Not to sound a total idiot but do players in your "B" team contribute to your wage bill?
They made the forum look horrible guys.![]()
I seriously hope they sort out the margins business. Screenshots and tables are going to look crap on this new forum skin.![]()
I completely agree with you C. I know it's only been out '5 minutes' and it's always difficult to accept change but it really is bad. I won't list the problems I find with it as it's pretty much covered in the feedback thread in GD but one thing that's annoying me particularly are the margins. Especially for our part of the boards here in CU, as you say C. tables and screen shots are going to look awful!![]()
![]()
It's actually so bad that I probably won't use the forum as much as I used to unless there are dramatic changes.
It's really frustrating to use - slow, blocky, bulky and too bright. It's actually hard work to navigate, hard work to load up threads and to read posts etc.
I hate the margins and the way that it has ruined all of the tables and screenshots in my threads.
In short, it looks bloody awful!![]()
I can't say I'm too happy with it either, the fixed width looks pretty awful on my laptop.
My updates seem to have loads of gaps and the table is a bit knackered![]()
Not a fan either. The only positive I see is that the announcements are detached more from the forum itself but the margins, colour scheme and appearance of code tables and screenshots is not good.
![]()
It's a bit hard to read but I think we'll all get used to it eventually...like the time we went to vBulletin from whatever forum software we used before...but it's real hard to see the thread starters than before.
Although I really hate the smileys exceptand

I recommend this for those struggling with the new layout on the forums - http://userstyles.org/styles/33293?r=1278493346
It increases the width of the forum (plus makes a few changes to colours etc.) which will really improve the look of screenshots and tables in our threads.
You need 'GreaseMonkey' to install it.
Thanks for the link crouchaldinho. The width is much better now and screenshots actually fit into the white box.Now to see what formatting works best for my next season update.

I have already expressed my displeasure in OTF and a quick moan in GQ.
Are they going to do anything anout the pictures? Or am I going to have to just put links in?
Ok well I'm going to refrain from posting until that little issue is sorted![]()
Even resizing my images to 800x600 makes them stick off the edge of the page, pretty annoying really.
Just testing:
![]()
Seems fine for me on 800x600, does that image overlap for you?
Fine for me Dafuge. 1280 x 800 screen resolution, 13" macbook...
I still have to scroll the screen along a little bit to catch the end of the image, before I never had to do that it all fit nice and snug on the page. Maybe I need to change my resolution or something but I am not really sure.
Problem with the names on the side now?
But massive improvement so I'm happy.
Better off posting thumbnail pics I think. The box on the left is way too big.
I'm thinking of doing a "Rise and Fall of FC Libourne Saint Seurin" documentary style thing for my FC Libourne save game. Despite the fact it would be very story-esque, I'll probably end up posting it here cause I want to use pictures and such that FMS aren't too keen on.
im considering starting a new game after the ease with which im winning everything anyone care to suggest some leagues?
S.Africa, Egypt, Japan, Germany not sure what else to add.
Argentina and the MLS have been fun for me this year. I always enjoy games in Mexico and Turkey as well.![]()
i pretty much had my fill of MLS in a earlier save, might go Mexico though but i do fancy Brazil over Argentina![]()
If you have 2 African leagues you might as well also have the African Mega DB. If you load Japan you might as well load MLS (Pan Pacific Championship), S. Korea (a must imo), and China. If you load Germany than you should the other major Euro nations too (England/France/Spain). And you should load the A-League and New Zealand as well. If you want to load MLS then you should add Mexico too...
I can go all day with this, but it depends on your computer specs.
Not be a total whore but yeah I'd appreciate some feedback on my career. Done one full season and only one person has replied (thank you Rancher
Border Hopping
I've enjoyed the Czech Republic and Denmark in the past too. Always fun to try and compete in Europe with a team from one of the 'smaller' leagues.![]()
All this talk of huge setup's makes me wish I had a better pc![]()
Was there any more on the awards?
I think it'd be good to have one now too...now it's been a year. I'm pleased with how the forum has developed and how popular it's become since I lobbied for this forum; and inparticularly some of the great reads that've been posted. I'm not sure about running it either as my wife is due to give birth in the next few weeks so I won't have the time. I'd be more than happy though to add suggestions and ideas if needed.
I'd be happy to run it, but I haven't got much clue on what I'm doing...
I'd also be happy to either run it or help out. Perhaps a dedicated thread to find out who's interested and discuss categories, criteria etc would be useful...
I don't wanna be a Rancher. Please don't start the Rancher movement.
I can help out with awards. I probably don't want to organize it but I would help out. Since the CSE guys and the Career Forum people are pretty much the same group of forum users why not set a group to deal with each one? Since canvey!! is doing the CSE one maybe one of Daf/Purefun/Neji can organize the Careers Forum awards.
I'm not really that keen/good at organising/running this sort of thing but I suppose as the only active mod here I should put myself forward.
I'm off on holiday soon, so if no one has come forward by the start of August then I'll take it on. The only downside with me doing it is that it will need to be quite quick, come September I just won't have the time.
I'll put a new thread up and see what people think.
I've got to be honest and say that I am nearly at the point of giving up on this forum after the recent changes.
This forum is so slow. It makes looking through threads a real chore. It's made all of our career threads look worse. In short, it really is bloody awful and I can't believe we're stuck with it.
There is nothing to like about it as far as I am concerned. It's slow and looks like utter crap. I can't think of any nice things to say about it to be honest.
I'm very tempted to start posting about my careers, and reading other people's careers, on another fans' forum as I find this one so frustrating now.
Anyone else feel the same?

No not really
I have gotten used to the changes..
I have change the resolution of my PC now due to having a better graphics card and the forums look okay. All the pictures show up perfectly now within the width of the threads, sure it doesn't look quite as good as before but not enough to put me off posting here.
Perhaps I am just overreacting then. I'm just finding it very frustrating and annoying.![]()
I still prefer the old style of the boards. However, the speed isn't too bad for me, pages load up fairly quickly and pictures fit in the width of the page. For me, it's bareable...unfortunate that it isn't for you C.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm just finding it quite slow, especially compared to the old forum. The loading times for a new page are really poor compared to what we had before.
I also strongly dislike the new layout, although it is somewhat bearable with Swisso's update to the colour scheme. Still, I find it less intuitive generally. I find myself having to 'work' that little bit harder to navigate through threads.
Overall it frustrates me, whereas I found the old forum a pleasure to use. Perhaps I just need to work a bit harder at getting used to it.
The new forum layout is fine now they've sorted out all the (minor) annoyances.
I'm not a huge fan of the new skin but I haven't found it that bad to use.
Switching back to a full width page was a great move for me, I'd have struggled with the fixed width version we had.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but on a 32-bit system the game can only use 2gb of ram at max even if the memory on the pc is larger say 4gb?
its not so much the game, its the Operating system will only detect 3.12GB of ram so will only allocate that much to the game and other programs, if you want to use all 4gb you need a 64bit OS![]()
Just curious as my parents said they'll buy me some new hardware due to good exam results. 3.12gb seems good enough considering I only have 1.75gb (DDR2) atm. Should do me well enough till I can get a new pc.
Thanks for the info Acid (Y)
Oh FFS. I'm offering out a great goalkeeper for free and one club is interested (which he promptly turns down). Current England international, 25 caps 23 yo, worth 18 million, and nobody wants him. Get real!
Odd to want to sell him you say? Yes. But I have the Portugal international, and he looks slightly better. Plus a young England one who looks great. And I've given up on using two almost evenly skilled goalkeepers as I can't keep them both happy with enough match time. It's the beginning of July too, so everybody are loaded with cash.
Football Manager 2011 official announcement - just in case anyone hasn't noticed it yet.
Probably the big highlight for people here sounds like the dynamic league reputation, could have huge potential for long term games.

I'm slightly tempted to go back to a game in NI with the dynamic league reputation.
Aye, dynamic league reputation is great news!
They seem to have tacked it on the end of their announcement, almost as an afterthought, but it's something that's been high on the wishlist of career and "small club to big club" players for years now. That feature alone would be enough for me to buy the new game.![]()
Dynamic league rep should make for interesting global career games!
Indeed... imagine Scotland sinking below the standard of the League of Wales.![]()
I probably won't get going with FM11 until a nice long list of additional leagues is created![]()
Isnt it too easy getting a decent job with no reputation? I started with no reputation and as an Icelandic manager i was getting jobs at a europe league qualifying Icelandic club, decent scotting sides and teams from B league in Scandinavia. I understand its not possible to start as a total bum in the game, but surely I shouldnt be able to get a job at a club playing in UEFA cup?
I hope they make career modes more enjoyable in FM11. I would really want more customization for your profile, i.e. favorite players, city of birth, coaching style, language etc.
haway then its the 2050/51 season ive just left crook, to start the journey again pretty much from league two with Sunderland, new thread or should i continue the old one?
Same save, same thread I say. Hope you have as much success with the Black Cats as you did with Crook.
Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone can confirm that i'm not being stupid!
I'm currently playing in South Africa and in order to sign foreigners they need a work permit. I know the ruling for work permits to be granted (75% of International games or an exceptional talent) but this guy has just been signed by one of my rivals in the same league. He's nothing amazing but I can't for the life of me figure out why he's been granted a work permit. I've tried signing players 2/3 times better than him but they can never sign due to not being granted a WP.
Here he is -
As you can see, he's not great, he hasn't played the required number of international games and he doesn't have South African nationality. So, my question is...why has he been granted a WP?
Any help would be great thanks...there's loads of good foreigners i'd love to sign! :
possibly his potential?
ok ideas for my thread title cant stick with the story of Crook Town, now im at sunderland, ideas?
Are the work permit conditions in South Africa the same as the ones in the UK?
From what I can gather yes. I've managed to sign a couple of foreigners and all of those had played in 75% of their countries international games. I've tried signing foreigners who've played none or only a few international games and they're not granted one. If the guy I posted above was exceptional then I guess I could understand it but he's not. The thing is, i've tried signing exceptional foreigners but even those aren't given a WP.![]()
One other question i've been meaning to ask...
...where's the little box at the bottom of the page that tells you who's online and viewing what?
I don't think they are--I think you are allowed a small number--three, maybe--foreign signings of whomever you want, and then the conditions kick in. But I don't know for sure--I only managed there for a few months, and had a hard time figuring it out as well.
Gone baby gone.![]()
They could be but i'm wondering if AmaZulu can sign that guy then why can't I sign people like that? I had my scouts get a report on him after he signed for AmaZulu and they say that due to him not being able to get a wp there's not much point in following him. From what I can gather so far in my limited time in South Africa, players that have played 75% of international games or players with SA as a second nationality i've been able to sign. Players who don't, I can't which is what leads me to believe the rules are similar to the UK.
Is it worth putting in a big bid for him, just to see what happens with the WP?
I could do. I'd like to get down to the bottom of it.
I currently have my scouts scouting Africa and they've come up with an ivorian who they think will get a wp despite him not playing any I.international games. The only thing I can think of is that he's classed as an exceptional talent.![]()

Sorry, double post. Stupid phone!![]()
And he hits the triple
I actually couldn't give any help with that Raware I just try and sign em and if they get a work permit good if not then stuff em.
And the mystery continues. I agreed terms with Francois Lelievre (just to see if I could sign him) but his work permit application was turned down so i'm none the wiser as to how he initially signed.

Perhaps they have a 'friend' in immigration?
its definitively a weird one. this is probs wrong but could it be a case of his CA was just enough when he signed for them to be classed as an exceptional talent, but now his CA isn't good enough for him to be classed as that anymore?
I prefer the explanation of him knowing a 'friend' in immigration!
Seriously though, your theory could be correct. I don't know what else it could beIt just has me curious as there's a load of foreigners i'd love to sign but can't due to a wp not being granted yet AmaZulu have one granted for Lelievre for no apparent reason. Guess i'll never know!
Now Saxon wants to start up a new adventure
Why am I so inconsistent
Also whats a good J-League and New Zealand XML that people have been using? Can't find any good ones its seems.

I use this one Sax. I quite like it since there's a real players xml as well.![]()
