Another Question!!
Would anyone be interested in a Fantasy Football League for this forum?? I would make the thread but not sure if it is evan allowed here? Mods that latter part. I know it isn't a career but it could be made a stickie. It's anice community bonding thing really. GD and OTF have them now and I was wondering whether w should have one.
Anyone want this??

Is the telegraph one free?
If not I would recommend using a free one as more people will be interested in it then.
Telegraph is free
As said GD and OTF have similar things. Are you in AcidBurn?
didn't know telegraph was free, last time I played FF on the telegraph it was about 4 quid a team.
Telegraph FF isn't free, £6 per team I believe.
My bad sorry. Got confused site is here http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ This one is free
Is this a popular idea?? I can set it up here if you guys want
Alright then tbh I didnt think it would happen anyway
I don't think it's an unreasonable idea, FMS, GD, CSE and the Football Forum all have their own separate one.
True I suppose Already there 30+ Threads on here, enough to start one
I don't see any harm in it, you can join 15 private leagues I think so we may as well have 1 more to join.
Guys this forum is what a month old or so, lets just focuss on the forum this season. Next season we can have one.
You could easely join in those other forums.I did the same.
I would really enjoy making one of these updates threads. I'm new to Football Manager, i bought Football Manager 2008 last year and loved it and have only recently bought this years game. I might start one later tonight, it will be with my home team so i have no chance of losing motivation and quitting it early.
Guys, what's best to use for hosting images?
I think I've used ImageShack in the past, without having a user account or anything. Will the pictures be there for a long time or are they deleted after a set period?
What's the best way to do it? Can anyone help?
Cheers,
C.
I use photobucket which is pretty good, makes posting the links nice and easy.
Thanks dafuge. I'm hoping to create a career thread at some point and I'll probably be doing it in your kind of style (i.e. more links, less text).
I'll give photobucket a go and see how I get on.
Thanks,
C.
I use photobucket too and find that easy to use.
I find Imageshack easier to use as my internet doesn't like Photobucket![]()
Photobucket for me.
I use photobucket for pictures that I want to keep and look back on in the future and I use imageshack to post one off pics.
Photobucket has decided that it likes my new internet browser, so i can use it again![]()
Imageshack for me
I use photobucket.
I also use this thing called Screenshot Pilot to take screenshots. I recommend it to anyone who takes a lot of screenshots for their updates.![]()
Screenshot Pilot, never heard of that!
Here is a download link
Basically it lets you take screenshots in a number of different ways, which are:
Multiple this will take a screenshot of the Active Window, the Full Screen and the Window under Cursor (I don't know what this one means)
Area this allows you to take a screenshot of an area of your active window (below the Screenshot Pilto window), for an example of this check my Fat Brazilian thread and look at the screenshots I take for the fixtures played each month.
Object this is a strange one. Once you've pressed Start Capture (or F11 on your keyboard) you then move your mouse around the screen and click on the object you want to take a screenshot of.
Active Window this takes a screenshot of the active window, below Screenshot Pilot.
Screen this takes a screenshot of the whole screen.
Client this takes a screenshot of the active client, below Screenshot Pilot.
Window Under Cursor this Captures the window located under mouse cursor.
Menu Under Cursor this Captures the menu located under mouse cursor.
Can I just say to all here that I have begun rating threads. Basically if I view a thread I rate it. If others could do a similar thing it would be appreiciated i'm sure. It will be nice when new users come on a can see what threads have been voted the best basically.
I've voted for all of the ones that i follow, just a matter of time before they appear. It's 10 votes to make the rating appear btw dafuge![]()
Thx Ridley.![]()
It seems that careers in Britain are the ones most closely followed. Maybe that's to be expected though. I thought a save overseas might have been interesting to people, but I'm a little disappointed with the lack of feedback (especially as I won the cup in the first year!). Or maybe that's down to my style/content! LOL.
With that in mind I may change the layout of my thread to see if it's more appealing. Either that or keep that save as a personal game (I'm enjoying playing it).
The reason for me thinking on this is I'm getting a new laptop this week and I have in mind a British save to play on that, as well as my Brazilian one on the desktop - but I'd only update one thread. And with British threads being most popular it just makes sense to make it that one.
Lastly, a well done to everyone here for the work (even though it's enjoyable) they put in on their threads. The community/forum is gaining a nice momentum without being overrun.
Good luck on your saves![]()
That is quite a true statement. GBR threads are probably more popular because people can relate with players etc. Although some (like Raware's) is probably due to the time and effort put into it.
btw I'm not getting to many comments on mine.
May I direct attention to the poll I have set up on GD http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=140404
This is quite interesting, the majority don't know this place exists
I'll be doing a "foreign" save but you have to wait till FM10 though. Overplayed yet again. I never do an English save tbh.
I actually enjoy following the foreign threads. Like your's...i've never played in Brazil and am 'a little' unfamiliar with the set up there. Reading your's gives me more insight into that league and certainly gives me motivation for maybe starting a game in Brazil on FM10.
I'm actually thinking of changing my update style as a few people now have said that it doesn't offer enough information about my game. I thought it did, but from some responses it obviously doesn't. Not sure yet.
Now, don't get me wrong, I know reloading to win is wrong, however I want to know if it is 'alright' so to speak in this instance. I beat Rangers 2-1 (again, 10-3!) on the last day of the season, however FM stopped working. No crash, just stopped working and had to close. Really p*ssed off about this as it could've meant a higher spot. So, is it classed as cheating in this case? I'm not sure if I plan to do it or no.
I am not sure really if you had lost then the game stopped working would you reload until you lost again or accept a win?
Personally I dont think its cheating at all.
It doesn't matter, I'll just knock the save back up and hope for the best.
It is never okay to reload! Never!
Quite frankly, I'm shocked you'd even think of it.<--- see!
It doesn't matter if you get a power cut, or a corrupt game, or whatever else befalls you, you must not reload.
Whatever games (and points) you lost have gone forever and, as far as I am concerned, you have to play them again and accept the result, even if you end up losing a game you won.
That's the proper way to deal with it. So now you know.
Obviously, I totally understand your frustration, but you must be strong!
The last time I got a corrupt save and lost some progress, I managed to turn a 1-0 loss against AFC Wimbledon into a 3-0 win and I felt extremely guilty. I almost replayed it for a loss but I remembered the code. The previous result had gone and I had to accept whatever I was given this time around. That's the end of it.
If you reload, you'll potentially ruin your save because at the end of the season you'll be thinking about those points that you shouldn't (or should) have had if you had been honest and played on. Trust me. Don't do it!
Regards
C.

I didn't C, it's alright.You can calm down now

*deep sigh of relief*
Phew.
That was a close call. You did the right thing Cardio.
Sincerely yours,
C.
If you lose, you could always go and poke a fork into your fuse box. That would probably cause another power cut then you would have to play the game again.![]()
I know off topic is discouraged and certain people have 'views' about this forum being a place of 'backslapping and well done's' (which is not at all what this forum is about), and i more than anybody are not bothered about post views/counts, (i've been a member of these boards for 5 years and only have 770 posts so that says something) but can i just say thanks to the people who have voted on my threadIt's nice to know that people enjoy reading about my experiences on FM and enjoy the way i portray that in my updates.

So where do I post if I want to post a career game (starting unemployed to whatever) but told as a story rather then bullet point updates or whatever?
If it meets all the criteria then it should be posted in FM Stories.
Perfect answer, thanks. It'll be an update of the game, but expanded more then just a bullet points like a diary, so I'll post it in here.
EDIT: Actually, what I'm thinking of seems to flicker between the two, so I'll just post it stories since its following the manager throughout his career told as if an Autobiography.

Is there going to be any firm guidelines drawn up for whether something should be in here or FMS?
About 20% of the threads in here (at a guess, I haven't read every single thread) are basically just stories shoved into a program that turns them into a newspaper and a print screen posted. Currently, as the only criteria we have are "no images and detail", we get cases like this.
IMO, we should have criteria like these:
1. If images are deemed essential to the progress of the thread, or screenshots are going to be linked to regularly, it's a career.
2. If the updates are more than just facts, it's a story. It doesn't need a multi-layered, Bafta winning plot (there seems to be a perception that all stories in FMS are publishable! Most don't even have a "storyline") but it does need to have flesh. Threads like Cougar's would be accepted happily in FMS- in fact, I think Cougar would have a chance of the "Best International Management Story" award if he had posted it in FMS.

I discussed this with the FMS mods when this forum first opened and I think that the moderators of both forums are quite happy to allow people to choose between the two forums based not only on the FMS guidelines, but also on the ethos (what is the plural of ethos anyway?) of the two forums.
If anyone wants their thread moved to FMS (or vice-versa), they just have to ask.
Personally, I see very little difference between the two forums, and only find myself getting confused as to which one I'm suppose to post into.
If you are not sure of the difference between the two forums and you are going to be keeping to the FMS guidelines then I would recommend that you post in FMS.
This forum is supposed to be an alternative for anyone who wants something a bit different to FMS, a sort of 'feeder forum'. I'm sure we'll get a few people moving from here to FMS in time.
That makes sense and is a good policy.
Of course, you've then got to take into account that some threads would only be accepted here (i.e. those which are reliant on images or screenshots, or those which are basically season summaries).
I would like to say that it takes a little more effort than simply shoving it into a program that turns it into a newspaper. The programs i use are Illustrator and Photoshop and require a lot of effort to produce the format in which i produce. There is no 'magic button' to produce newspapers.
Can you do start a Career Update thread even if you can't post screen shots?
Everyone can. Go to the Options Menu and press "Print Screen". The screenshot will then appear in .png format in:
My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\screenshots![]()
I use irfanview, just use CTRL + PrtSc and past in a empty doc of ifrnmaview, then you can cut, expand etc and save in each format you want and is free ware. Or use Gadwin screen capture, use the PrtSc button to activate ans with some default setting it can do wonders (use them both for my work), but if you use them for private reasons they are freeware.
PS> just found out there is a career forum, never knew that..
Then Welcome..PS> just found out there is a career forum , never knew that..![]()
I presume this is one of the main points of debate about this forum and FMS, even though this is a 'career update' I can see some people posting there 'stories' over here, because they want to put things like screenshots or pictures in it.
Thinking about starting a career updates thread with a new save, the MK Dons. I won't be including screenshots though, well not straight away because the Internet on the laptop I play FM is broken.
I that is one of the main differences. Take mine as an example, the screenshots are really telling the story there, without them it would be a bit meaningless.
Only just noticed this forum, and it's been here over a month!
would it be better to start LLM or could you start one in say Prem????
Ok going to start a story/update with Cromscotts latest update but i want too allow the community to decide who i should start with. The choices are as follows:
(1) Sunderland: A club with all the sources to become big, including money. Now they just need a manager to get them their.
(2) Newcastle United: The 'too big a team to go down' has, well gone down. The challenge is not only too return them to the premiership but actually win some honours to get them that 'big team' tag that all but passionate geordies feel is a sham.
(3) Leeds United: Success in the 60's and 70's returned in the late 90's and early 00's but this time cursed with an immediate downfall of gigantic disaster. Can they become and force to be reckoned with again and this time on the back of sound finances.
(4) Rangers: One of the big 2 in scotland, Rangers have failed to replicate their 90's success during the last 10 years. Often in the shadow of Celtic the last 2 years have seen a UEFA Cup final and the title return but can they challenge the elite of europe on a regular basis.
(5) Aberdeen: It seems that success left the Dons when Alex Ferguson departed and it has never really found its way back to Pittadore. A small ground and average facilities wont make it easy to return them to their former glory, but what a story it would be if they did.
(6) Lazio: Although they have enjoyed success in Seria A recent seasons have been rather a dissapointment, bar the 3rd pace finish in 07. They once looked like they could be a major force for years to come from 95-99 but financial woes put paid to that and they quickly became a selling club to the big 4. The foundations are there to see them rise to the top once more.
So let the voting begin...who do you want to see glory come too?

Aberdeen then![]()

How many seasons are you planning on playing?
Im just going to role with it; if there is enjoyment in the game then it will continue to be played. I may even manage to restore all of them to their former glory!
I'd probably go with Leeds then, the first season should be interesting.
owen, I must say don't 'roll with it' because lack of wins will mean lack of motivation and you'll ditch the save. Play a few seasons before updating (even one season) because it saves the forum getting clogged with unfinished threads.
Wether Im winning or losing I always have the motivation, what better motivation is there than winning fans and the board over when your job is on the line. But dont panic, I will do a season before any updates. And who do you think I should go?
A completely non-biased view of Aberdeen.
None of the ones you mentioned, why always those english teams!!
Go with a team like Sint-Truiden (STVV) in Belgium, smallish stadium, not a lot of money, some quality and a stupid chairman.
Or Sparta Rotterdam in Holland or Karlsruhe in Germany or Xerez in Spain. Those are challenges.
Because going Man Utd etc is too easy. Also i believe more people will follow a career if it is with a club they are familiar with. There was no mention of me wanting to play as these clubs because of me wanting a challenge (although I dont want it to be simple) rather I chose these teams because of their history an tradition as clubs. Hopefully that answers your doubts.
Don't have doubts mate.
Just had an idea about this forum today: in order to get more in-thread discussion going, should we have some threads that are open for multiple users to post in? For example, we could have a Premier League thread for those who focus their careers there, a European thread, an international management thread etc.
I'm not suggesting this as a replacement for any existing threads as many of the current threads are fun to follow. This might just provide a place for people who find the prospect of opening their own thread a bit duanting to go and may give more encouragement to people who would otherwise think 'why is nobody commenting in my thread?'. Thoughts?
Probably not the best idea in my view.
I think majority of people would just like to post their own thread, but I may be wrong
I have to say that I am proud that already this forum has grown into somthing special since it's uprising..
We have had the privielge of many great career storys like some of the top of my head include Nep's Knockbreda save, Raware's Hong Kong with Love, WH's Best of British and Hamilton162's Other Side of Manchester.
It already seems like forever ago when this forum was gaining support on GD.
I agree, it has made it a lot easier to read fantastic threads like Nep's, Raware's, WH's, DodgeeD's and Dafuge's which would otherwise be impossible due to the fact the individual updates would be spread around the a certain thread.
Agreed. I think I'll be spending more time here with FM10 than on CSE.![]()
Cheers for the mention SaxonaitorI'd agree that this forum has become something good since it's formation as it allows users to showcase their careers without the updates being scattered around the threads in CSE
It's also now easier to follow one career that doensn't follow the challenges in CSE, such as Raware's 4 fantastic threads
![]()
I've never ventured onto CSE before (although I've followed some links there from here over the last couple of days). For me this provides all the positives of what I was getting from LLM - like minded gamers discussing career games, without any of the negatives. This is definately my new home on the SI forums.
With my old laptop, I'll have to wait and see what I can get out of FM10 (midly optomistic though as Miles Jacobson said in the podcast a lot of work had been done on making the game run smoothly and process faster on all machines). Hopefully, I'll be able to run a combination of the big leagues, my favourite leagues from previous versions and a couple of places I've never managed in before.![]()
from me on this forum. Just a question - how do my updates read for you guys? In comparison to some of the others mentioned above that are in 'end of season report' format. For those that don't know my career is here and I've done my updates sporadically, as and when I've felt the need. Though lately these have been monthly updates!
Anyway thoughts would be appreciated![]()
iacovone: I haven't read all of it yet but from the first few posts it seems to be a nice and enjoyable format, which makes it interesting and I will definitely be reading more! I don't think it would appeal to the casual reader who perhaps doesn't necessarily read the updates, but merely looks at the 'statistics'.
Yeah thanks chaps, think I've just been a bit lazy with the lack of screenshots - a possible downside of my sporadic posting :embarrassed:
Just wanted to say I agree with all you guys(and thanks for the mention on my thrreads
). I'm delighted at the response this forum has got and the threads are making great reads. I actually check this out before any of my emails first thing in the morning now!
I'm enjoying the read iacovone but as said, probably could do with a few more screen shots.
Anecdote thread anyone ????
What's an anecdote thread?![]()
one post memories, ie. a little story about a player that won't take up a 3 page thread.
i'm in 1038 Fiorentina ever since i begin in 2008... "What are humans?" are my adiectedness rating xD
