While I understand there is a two season rule, what can be done so that the full impact of being an unemployed manager can hit the updates. Starting unemployed loses all of it's impact if you can only update after two seasons. I want to involve the readers in my journey for a job aswell and my beginnings as being unknown to the club. What can I do?
Is the 'player naming' thing that you have to put in the title really necessary? Not in an angry way, was just wondering the reasons for it?
It is neccesary imo, some people may not want to go into a thread that has player naming so they can find players themselves (although after this long I'd be shocked if people didn't know most players now!)
It was pretty unanimous in the other thread that player naming tags would be a good idea, they don't hurt anyone but warn those who don't want to see things.![]()
So our desire for a forum became reality, shame i seemingly missed it. however over the next couple of days i'll bring you up to speed on my Beverley town save, unless the rules were randomly changed.
Why do some sections have the black colour scheme and others have the blue one?
I want the black one for everything![]()
(Player Naming) has mysteriously disappeared from the title of my update![]()
And mine! Keep your eyes peeled for any suspicious characters loitering![]()
Is there going to be any distinction between FMS and Updates? Atm a lot of these threads would probably be ok in FMS, the only problem is pictures. Imo a clear distinction has to be made as otherwise we have two stories forums and two sets of fans, the only major difference is that there's more attention from others in here, perhaps that's part of the reason it was made.
Thanks to the mods for taking the time and effort to make, and moderate, the forum.
I'll be starting a new game this weekend and will start a thread here for the career. Thanks again.
How do I change my screenshot from www.imageshack.us/blahblah so that it can say my players name to click on.

Player Name
I use photobucket. Never used imageshack tbh. Is it better?
Yay, my topic's been made into a sticky!
What is the meaning of ahmufcwafc's username, since you won't shut-up about it?
If you really want to know it's ****************************** (Ahmufcwafc's name)
Also I like this blue colour skin for this forum. It's Wicked!!
What exactly is the difference between this forum and the Stories Forum ? Been thinking about writing a thing or two as my current savegame progresses (with short summary of what happened thus far in a season-by-season overview) and now i´m kind of confused as to where i would put it ?
That´s what i was hoping really, suits my time schedule more as of now and that´s what allways has put me off putting sth in the stories forum where there is some serious writing going on in some topicsWould likely "plan" to make like 5,6 updates a season really, so that would propably fit here best i suppose.
Would like to see more screenshots in peoples updates, helps the immersion.
There's some in mine Captain. If you want any more they could be easily got.
What forum would my thread fall under?
I prefer imageshack myself, but there's not much difference between the two.
Imageshack for me. Make a picture link on the forum and their is no pop up
There's a way of preventing the stupid popups on imageshack - right-click the image then go 'view image'. If you copy and paste that link it'll just show the screenshot alone (without the site in the background) and there'll be no popups. Most people on here don't know about that though so there's no way of stopping them fully.
Personally, I prefer links to images over using the [img] coding. It takes ages to load up pages if there's a load of people posting screenshots using the image code. I don't mind if there's only a few embedded images in a thread though.

Getting there, but not all stories have the detail of tenthreeleader's work. Mark Wilson and Faramir write in very game-based ways, as does Donners and Tubey. Now there are differences- Donners' use of pronouns, and Faramir relays his reports back in the style of newspaper articles with manager and assistant commenting, but the stories aren't as fleshed out as percieved.
Currently, the main difference is the inclusion of screenshots in this place, but they're even allowed in FMS as long as they're linked to and are used to aid rather than dominating the story.
SCIAG is right, gentlemen. Dafuge asked Terk and me to look through all of your threads and determine which are 'FMS-like', if you will.
First I should say there is some good writing talent in here, but the fact of the matter is that there are about half a dozen threads which could make the grade in the stories forum. SCIAG is right to say that there are different styles of writing, all of which are acceptable in FMS.
My own writing takes the form of a novel and is thus inappropriate for anyplace EXCEPT the stories forum, but some of the work I've seen here is plenty good.
For me, it all boils down to detail. Individual match writeups, unless short, are in FMS as well. The fact that so many of you use pictures separates you from FMS since you can link to photos in FMS but not post them directly.
I'm happy for people to make their own choice, I don't plan on moving any threads just because they are better suited for FMS.
If people are choosing to post FMS style threads here, it must be for a reason, possibly because they want to include images or they might want a bit more discussion in their thread.
Agree completely with dafuge. You're trying to sort out your own rules and I was asked for an FMS perspective. As a matter of fact, the 'FMS' threads I mentioned to him would have to be edited to appear in our backwater in the first place. My point was that despite being minimalist in your writing, you've got some talented people and I plan to lurk here from time to time.
Can I start a discussion about discussion?
I'm not sure if this was something that was wanted or not but how do people feel about other people posting in their threads?
Do people want the discussion in their thread about their games or would they prefer people to keep out, to keep all the updates together?
I think that it needs to be down to the thread starter. I'm all for discussion in a thread I start, but if people don't want it in theirs, if they don't want their updates broken up, they could just state that in the OP.
I am quite happy for people to post their thoughts in my thread! As long as it is regarding my thread, or at least linked to it! but again I would respect people who didn't want me to get in between their updates...
I'm updating my thread to get discussion, not for my health![]()
Discussion is always good.
A break from the updates.
Whats different about imageshack quickshot? And does anyone have a link?
http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=quickshot
Lets you upload screenies through a program you download iirc.
So if I push one of those hotkeys that program will appear, I can resize it and immediatly post it? Or am I totally wrong?
Sounds like most of you want the discussion going on in your threads, which I think is good really.
If there is anyone who doesn't, can I suggest that you mention it in the opening post and use the Mod Requests thread to ask for any deletions that are necessary.
Yeah discussion in my thread too and more of it![]()
<pimp>everyone read my thread and comment!</pimp>
The thing is for some people (like me) they like the encouragement. It gives me extra encouragement to write another update if people have commented and said they like it and want to see more
I know this was only a joke but it does raise a serious issue.
Under no circumstances should anyone be spamming any other thread with adverts for their career thread. If it is entirely relevant the there's not a problem with linking to your thread, but please don't advertise for the sake of it (spamming). I've noticed a few people with little adverts in their locations, I've not got a problem with that at all, it is not an issue.
Just want to chime in here but this forum has become my favourite by far!! Now I hang around here a lot whilst before I hanged around GD a lot
Yeah, I really like this forum. As of yet, there isn't enough feedback for the games- Or maybe I only feel that way. Also, even taking what daf has said into consideration, I have a spare post at the beginning of my thread, (it was going to be used for something I now no longer need it for) - so please give my thread a check, and particularly the most current post, asking you guys, the users, for what extra info you would like to see from me on a season basis.
I am also heavily in favor of discussion in threads. I've refrained from it currently, because I didn't know the ins and outs of the rules for that, but it seems its ok. So I'll be visiting you guys' threads a lot more in the near future![]()
Start with mine
I'm always up for some discussion!
Me to I would love some discussion on my career especially about trying to write a brief history of my star player.
50 more views till 1,000 for me!!![]()

NOOO My finger!!! it's broken!! lol
This thread is to discuss the forum, let's keep it on topic please.
Why cant the PA and CA of regen players be revealed, I wont be doing it I just wondered seems a bit strange to me.
For me, I don't want to see how CA/PA relates to in game performance. I want to play the game with no knowledge whatsoever of data that is not designed to be seen by the player.
The other reason is that a total ban is much easier than a partial ban.
I don't see why anyone would need to mention CA/PA anyway. If you are cheating by looking at these values then a ban on mentioning them gives you the chance to keep this quiet.
Sounds good to me, like I said I wouldnt name CA and PA but was curious.
Indeed, and I would not claim otherwise. I view it as a diary of playing rather than a story in the creative sense. Then again, a formatted layout of data can be sufficiently creative and reflective of original thought to be the basis for copyright, so I would be lothe to divide writing by levels of creativity...
Idea springing up here: Shall we put up a post in the rules thread saying if discussion is allowed in (insert name here)'s thread?
Surely the user that creates the thread can put in their thread if they want discussion or advice and stuff.
About time, I came across this today. Makes it so much easier to read career posts. From Hong Kong with love by Raware is a brilliant read.
Quick Question: What happens to this forum onc we jump ship to FM10 forum? I'm a noob in this so forgive me if i'm being stupid. Do our careers get moved over as well?
There's never a shift in forum when a new game comes out.
What? Don't we move to the FM10 website?
Okay then. So we keep this forum along with our stories.
U seen the St Albans thing in my career yet C?
Another 2 questions -
1. What is the rule regarding multiple careers?
2. Should their be a awards thing, much like the stories forum (I think) for best read etc
I would give a thumbs-up to an awards ceremony, definitely. I think it really helps to build a spirit of community, as it certainly has in FMS.
CSE has awards too. I'd be happy to pick some other members to run them with me. Perhaps 1 a year, at the end of each calendar year, or do it like CSE, and run the awards with each new FM release.
