You going to turn this into a career JackJameson?
and Welcome to the Forums![]()
I am back after 2months of no internet as i moved into a flat with my gf. Still been playing FM, including saves with Horsham, Lubeck, Calais and a Singapore team. I'm looking to get back into a decent save that i can update in this forum and i've downloaded a created database where the Faroe Islands have been added instead of the Peruvian leagues. What are peoples views on making updates on a save in here with a Faroese team?
Right on Fm10 when its released im going to start a LLM type career which will hopefuly take me to the top. And well what would you say is the best way in writing up about it> Say play a month or two then right about it and post as an update or type it up on word then post as one? As your the ones hopefully going to be reading it i thought id ask.
I would say it depends on how often you can post and keep it interesting. If I posted more than once a season, I wouldn't be able to think of anything to say! Whereas some of the guys on here can write really good threads updating after every match. It's down to personal preference really, just keep it interesting!

Personally I keep it down to season reviews and major stories like job moves, stadium expansions etc. In my opinion, you should restrict yourself to the stuff people will be interested in since this forum is more about what is going on in your game than the writing style. I doubt that many people would be interested in constant monthly updates with every match result in them.
okay cheers for the response guys.
So daf what do you think of the anecdote thread.
Im sure there are loads of people who would use that, I would.
We interrupt this discussion for a friendly word from your cousins at FMS.
There was talk at one point about awards for this forum, after you get your feet on the ground a bit. To show you how we do it, you're invited to the 2009 FMS Awards Extravaganza, Beach Party and Clam Bake, to be held in our part of the forums on Sunday, 25th October beginning at or about 8:00 p.m. GMT.
(Okay, maybe not those last two ....)
Carry on!
Thanks, I may pop in and take a look![]()
Deadly.
Im predicting a deluge of new threads to coincide with the new game.
I really want to complete dafuge's challenge and keep up with it this year.
I'll probably stick in my FM09 save, considering that I won't get FM10 till Christmas (or somewhere around that date, after uni exams).![]()
who will people be choosing for there careers. im stuck in picking a team.
I'll do another Stockport career on here soon after release. I tried a couple for FM09 but they never really got going, but will definately do one for FM10
imthinking wrexham as im from wales
Hi Dafuge,
Is your challenge likely to be set much lower down the non league pyramid this year considering the potential with the Competition editor? Or do you expect it to continue with just the leagues in the original release?
He might not make any adjustments, as he stated from here.
I dont do what my first save shall be... An unemployed start or a Norwich save....
Thoughts?
Unemployed with the aim of ending up at Norwich?
Norwich with the chances of being unemployed?![]()
Am stuck with who to do too, got three choices as I see it:
1. Spurs
Pro - Glamourous, money to spend, no rules on Internationals
Cons - Been there, done that, lacks a good challenge
2. Dafuge's Challenge
Pro - Good community, challenging
Cons - No International mgmt, no moving clubs
3. Career Game
Pro - Can do what I want
Cons - Lacks interest from others making it boring?
Well because I've never done International management in FM09 for some reason; it's made me more interested in doing it this time around, so I'd want to do it from the start. However it going to be a couple of weeks before I start this game due to a holiday so I'll probably change my mind and do what you done with Dartford - plus if it goes as well as last year I'll not want to move clubs![]()
Who is going to do new a career thread and with what club this FM?
I'm going to start with Lyon and hopefully will also be posting in here about it.
True MeLikeFM
I think I'll stick with Dafuge's challenge but might still post updates about it in here as well like Dafuge did with Dartford, although it depends how much time I have to do proper updates. Currently plan to start as Truro, although if the rumours about their poor reputation are true then Tonbridge Angels will be my spare choice. Hopefully I won't change my mind now although it will be around two-weeks before I can play due to holiday.
Have we had any more thought going into whether a Awards Ceremony is going to take place this year (unlikely I know) or next year?
To be honest my opinion is that we have enough careers to begin an awards night, evan if it only covers a few catagories.
eg:
Best Career
Best Writer
Best Lay Out
Rough suggestions but giving my idea on the subject..
I don't think there's much point, this forum has only been up for a few months. I can't see the point in having an Awards Ceremony for the sake of having one, I think next year around the summer is the best time for award ceremonies as the game has been out long enough and there's still enough interest in it (this is what happens in the Challenges, Sign Up and Experiments' forum).
This forum has only been around for a few months, I think it would be much better to give it one full year before introducing an awards ceremony.
Most of the threads in here are quite short or have been written retrospectively for games which have already been played, people haven't really had the opportunity to create brilliant career threads. A full year with FM10 will mean a whole load of new threads written 'live' from the very start, which will be a lot more interesting than what we currently have.
I think this forum is really going to pick up once the new game is released, I expect a lot more active threads than we currently have.
Another reason for waiting is that this forum doesn't have too many people following it at the moment, there only ever seems to be 3 or 4 people viewing it. An awards ceremony really needs a much bigger user base for it to work, which we may have after FM10.
Pardon my butting in, gentlemen, but if you want a completely unsolicited opinion, you're probably a year or so away from being really ready for an awards presentation.
Just a reminder also that the FMS Awards are being presented tonight at 8:00 p.m. GMT. As a way to get your thinking started should you go down that route, here's a reminder of the awards we're giving our writers:
Best Short Story
Best Challenge Story
Best Super League / Fantasy Story
Best Story Idea
Most Missed FMSer (obviously you can't do this one yet)
FMS Hall of Fame Voting
Best International Management Story
Best "Rest of World" Story (i.e. outside Europe)
Best "Rest of Europe" Story (i.e. outside Home Nations)
Best Celtic Story (and no, that's not Old Firm - it's Ireland and Scotland)
Best English Story
Best Story Character
Funniest Story
Funniest Writer
Best Newcomer
Story of the Year
Writer of the Year
FMSer of the Year
Hope to see some of you there! Bring your blindfold ... the 'location' of this year's awards is a closely guarded secret!

I'll certainly be posting in here once FM10 launches properly! Ive always taken over Liverpool until last year when I took over Southport and made it all the way to the CCC before a user malfunction when rebuilding my computer
Ill be off back to Haig Avenue on friday and aiming to take them all the way to the Premiership and into Europe![]()
I'll do my best. I'll be posting but it won't look pretty probably.
With the new game being released tomorrow I'm expecting quite a few new threads starting soon. Rather than us all putting [FM10] at the start of our titles, would people prefer it if I just add [FM09] to the start of all the old thread titles?
That would probably be better as I suspect there will more FM10 threads than FM09 threads.
Hi guys,
I'm intending to spend most of my FM10 time here once my copy of the game arrives. Still debating which leagues to run... I was thinking either at least one on each continent or running leagues where English/British managers have had some success (e.g. Spain, Portugal, Italy, Holland, Turkey, Scandanavia and a few Asian ones). The only problem is I wouldn't be able to include South American leagues (unless there's an English manager I don't know about...) and I would like to go back there..
Do you really need to tag the game version? Does it matter?
I might have to join you here Dodgee - I don't think I will be able to afford the time to create a sign up etc and the one thing that sometimes puts me off the small to big club challenges is the limitation of just 1 country's league, so I think my progress will be documented here.
Hopefully by the time I have the game on Tuesday some whizz kid has already processed the lower leagues of Italian Football, so I can begin on Mark 2 of The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro!![]()
Look forward to following your progress here WW.
My last few major saves on FM have all ended up being small to big club challenges and I haven't really had a career at more than one club since FM06 so it's about time! For now though, I'm waiting for my game to show up (stupid Turkish shopping website said they'd have it on UK release day and the shops wouldn't - turns out the reverse was true) and trying to decide which leagues to run. Right now, I'm leaning towards England, Spain and Turkey witj a few South American and Asian leagues thrown in as well.
I'm looking forward to posting my Billericay career in here, this way I can do detailed reports and not fear they'll get lost forever in dafuge's thread itself.
Rule 5 seems a bit odd, as we would like to put in a good word for nice updates (thereby KUTGW).
Could a mod please close and delete my Zenit thread? I've just realised I'm playing with a small database and I hate that so I'll have to start again.
Thanks.
Done Mike
Mod Requests Thread![]()
I looked for a Mod Requests Thread and didn't see one!![]()
At last! My copy of FM10 was waiting for me when I got home today. Installing now and having a final think about what leagues to run for my new career.![]()
Hey guys - come over and check in with my Arsenal career. Last year I had a decent thread going using forumers as Assistant Managers and it makes the game a bit more interesting. It has started, so please take a look and contribute whenever/however you can!

I'm sure advertising in here is strictly not allowed![]()
Surely thats exactly what it's for?!![]()
no, it really isn't. This thread is to discuss the forum as a whole and how it could be improved etc, it's not simply a case of everyone posting links to their threads.
I thought I could remember Hopey or Purefun posting in here about countries they've included on their save, but after going through the 5 pages I'm obviously mistaken - it must be somewhere else!
The post was interesting because whoever it was talked about including countries around the one you manage in because it can be easier to get players loaned.
Does anyone remember this, or have views on it/do something similar?
I'll be starting my save over the weekend, and I'll be posting it here - I was just wanting to re-read this post.
My advice (assuming you're starting in England like I do) is to also load all the other big nations. This ensures lots of good newgens as the game goes on, which stops you from signing all the best players in the world and making the game too easy.
I'm currently running all leagues from Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, on a large database. It also stops England from dominating internationally as the game goes on. I've added Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland to that list before, which helps when you're in the lower leagues as there are more players to choose from closer to home. It doensn't make any difference once you work your way up to a big club though, so I left them out this time as I don't have any intention of managing in any of those countries.
I'm definately loading the big nations top leagues. And about 50 DDTs for the topl leagues of countries, to help with regens.
This is something to consider, which I'm not sure of. When you're in lower leagues, you may only be allowed to scout your border countries; but as you say, any of those lower leagues become redundant later on - unless you can loan players to them. I'm undecided on this.I've added Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland to that list before, which helps when you're in the lower leagues as there are more players to choose from closer to home. It doensn't make any difference once you work your way up to a big club though, so I left them out this time as I don't have any intention of managing in any of those countries.
Going to start up a new game for report in the next few days but wanted to ask the community a question first.
Shall I include a player career like I did in my last save "A Tale Of Two Saxons" or just focus on the managerial career?
Also names for the thread title welcomed, the one chosen shall recive a prize..
Is there a general rule between the openings of two different career threads?
All I've done is add a new editor file and started a new save and my custom graphics aren't working
Bloody hell!
Have sorted your config file out properly?
FM can be cruel sometimes!Glad they're working now.
Christ! This German 4th division is tough. I'm not even putting my name on my office door this time. I was insecure in October! I've turned it around a little for the moment. I've got a media prediction of 4th - the 3 teams favoured in front of me are considerably better, but then there's about another 5 just as good as me!
Playing quite well this time, with my usual 433 - just lacking a goal or two as usual. Finances are very healthy this time too. So I'll be gutted if I end up getting sacked again.
I'm not opening another thread though, just in case![]()
33 played, 13 to go. Hanging on to the last play-off slot - 7th! Even if we make the play-offs we'll struggle to go up, as the top 3 teams are class apart from us and one of them will be in those matches. But I'd be happy with the seasons performance if we could make it to those games. Even though we've got a media prediction of 4th I think I'd keep my job too(and that would let me start a thread!!)
EDIT: my scouts found a player with a 9 letter name, only 1 of them a vowel!! LOL. Czyszczon - beat that![]()
This forum is really dead, we need to advertise it round the forums just like CSE did with a sticky at the top promoting their monthly challenges.
That wasn't to advertise CSE, it was just so there was a cross-forum challenge, and tbf it didn't do anything to boost the amount of people in CSE as far as I am aware anyway.
Those weren't adverts, they were supposed to be challenges that brought various forums together. Not that they got that much interest
I think people are already aware of this forum, it has been publicised in GD quite a bit and we have already had a few people over from FMS and LLM. I just think that it will only appeal to a smallish number of people (a bit like the two aforementioned forums) so will always have a relatively small number of visitors.
This forum is not dead. It's basically like what dafuge said. It doesn't appeal to most people. I prefer here and CSE the most because it's a smaller community. And also no heated arguments/whinings/'it's your tactics' stuff unlike that GD place.![]()
Normal behaviour if you ask me, I only look at (most) threads in there for a good laugh!
Anyway, I've been internet-less for a couple of months now, but moving tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to start writing up my Scandinavian career on FM10 soon.
Glad to see the community is still going well on here, and there are a number of interesting games going on from what I can see![]()
Well Hi to you all I just really stumbled upon what goes on over here when I was looking at the Journeyman career thread. Took time to have a look and I am hooked and have even started a career thread to show my first ever Journeyman career.
So to you all thanks for all your efforts and I am going to spread the word of this forum to the members of a Clan game I jointly run and I might post a career thread showing what goes on with our managers over there but that might be alot of work so we will see.

Just started a save with Eintracht Frankfurt, but I'm going to let it roll for 6 months or so before opening a thread.
We're going to take the Bundesliga by storm - but nobody's told the bookies! 1000-1They'll regret that price when you lot pile on
