Background first. FM09 is the first new version I've played in three years and when I first started 6 weeks ago, I was enjoying the game tremendously, managing Wigan. About halfway through my first season, I noticed that many of my players were the subject of other teams' intererst, with the result that a number became unsettled, asked for transfers and eventually had to be sold. At the end of the seaon, fully half my players still had "wanted" notices next to their names.
During the off season I brought in a few replacements, but more and more players became the interst of other teams, with the result that a number of players I had counted on demanded to leave. What made this more frustrating was that most of the teams involved finished either near or below me in the standings. Yet the players thought this would improve their careers. During the first year and the off season, I seemed to be spending an inordinate amount of time issuing hands-off warnings, usually to no effect. The insanity of all this was realized when one of my star players demanded to leave and went to a team only a few places above me. When I checked he had signed for a salary 15,000 less than I was paying and he was in the Reserve team.
Now I find myself in a vicious circle where too many players are unsettled, too many new players have to be brought in as replacements and I am losing interst because no matter what I do I don't believe this is ever going to change--unless I resign and try managing a team in a much lower league (although I bet the same thing happens there, too).
I would be interested in how others have addressed this situation and if there is a remedy. I really like the game but the fun is disappating quickly.
