My 2 cents, I use the TT&F guidelines and create an attack, standard, defensive tactic. Usually, if I'm at home against a big four type team I use standard tactic to start and go defensive if I'm up after 75 minutes, if I'm down I go attack after 60-70 minutes.
I find using the attack tactic leaves me too vulnerable against a much better side even at home. Home advantage and standard usually works well for me (currently west ham) and I can usually at least draw and steal a win here or there against the big four at home. Away against a big four playing defensive with a counter attack.
