Blasphemy....the Bandits will rule the world!!!!Down with the Bandits!!
Blasphemy....the Bandits will rule the world!!!!Down with the Bandits!!
I hate both of them
And here we are on Page 3...
I'm gonna support the sheriffs too
I'm a Bandit man still I think. But if the idiots go into management then I'll be firmly behind them. Think of the carnage they can cause!
I just think FM09 will give the idiots even more opportunity for drama!
Kip - massive Bandits fan and pleased to be in on this earlier this time. I never got round to reading the first 40 or so years of the first experiment! Congrats on the new experiment, it looks like a cracker.
Just joking, really some of us have to support Sheriffs, at least to create some diversity and some discussion in the thread how the Bandits will crush the Sheriffs to the ground
And hopefully no "Sack the board..." or "Sack the manager..." chants this year
I'm waiting for the first seasons results before I jump on a bandwagon
This thread is excellent already and there aren't even any updates.
I will definitely be watching and probably rooting for the Sheriffs.
Funny note: The Sheriffs, normally the "good guys" have the idiots, or "bad guys"
What's with the sack the board chants?
I didn't read the old thread so I'm not familiar with this.
I read the first 40 or so years, just not the last 20 odd years
The talented few always walked into the wreckage of a previous hack, thus ensuring a short stay at the club.
The previous experiment's board seemed to have great patience for mediocrity and ineptitude but a hair trigger for firing the good ones.
'Sack the board, sack the board, sack the board...'
Picture the scene...
The Sheriffs are 4-0 up and cruising. Every time Idiot Midfielder gets the ball and passes accurately (or rather goes on a selfish run) the crowd cheer (in the style of PorkPie from classic comedy series Desmonds)
Tell me to shut up if you like but, I think I'm on a roll...
Everytime Idiot Striker scores a hatrick (and yes he will because the Sheriffs are great)...
to the tune of Call on Me - Eric Prydd
"He scores threeeeeee, He's from Zambiiiii a. He scores threeeeeee, He's from Zambiiiiii a, He scores threeeee" etc
This is insane! Three pages and we've not even had an update yet!
My missus gave me a few rather funny looks when I suddenly yelped with delight when I saw that the new Bandits 2009 experiment had started and was showing on the forum listings.
I cannot wait for the first update.
But you know what? I think I am going to have a real soft spot for the Sheriffs! I always seem to follow the 'bad guys' and I am struggling to resist here!
Sheriffs will dominate in the early seasons but Bandits will close the gap;
It will take time for both to reach the Premiership and challenge in the top half - 25 years;
A Sheriffs player to end up playing for the Bandits ... and vice versa;
A Champions League trophy for one or both;
At some point, administration for the Sheriffs.
Kip - the first thread was amazing. This is an amazing start. Consider me, and 99.9% of others I suspect, in the QUALITY camp. Take your time and deliver the high quality we know you will.
Coooooommmmmmmmmeeeeeee on yoooooouuuuuu Sheriiiiffffffffffsssssssss!
Gonna make another bold prediction.
*This thread will out-do the first thread in terms of posts and views.
At the rate its going i expect this to happen sometime around saturday afternoon.
I'm partway through the report, but it is huge. In the last experiment, the initial reports were quite short, and later in the experiment, once all the players had retired, I added sections to analyse the world game more closely.
This time, all the sections are in from the start, so they will be the longest reports yet (and of course, there is another team to look at, albeit not in the same detail).
I'll go as quickly as I can, but at the moment there are 22 sections planned
I thought we had an update there but it's great to know the first season has been completed holiday wise and that the report is a work in progress.
Great stuff Kip, look forward to it
(patiently of course)
MON the SHERIFFS!!!
Can't wait for the report
Yeah, to the Bandits returning. Loved this experiment in 07 and will follow it in 09 like a hawk.
You should set up a donate button, a pound per person following and you could buy a lap top that would run the season in a half hour :-)
There isn't a laptop that would run a season featuring that many leagues and competitions on full detail in half an hour. Even a powerful desktop takes time to do it.
i'm sure a 3ghz quad core with 4gb(or more) of RAM and a solid state hard drive would be pretty quick????
If any body has the above system give it a try!!
I already know this is going to be amazing work Kip, appreciate the time and effort your are (and always have) put into the bandits.
One of the main reasons so many people fell in love with them in the first place was how interesting and personal you made the updates.
I have a E8600 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 4GB of Ram together with tons of hard drive space, and yet it takes my computer time to simulate seasons on full detail.
Now what I'd really benefit from is if SI were to allow FM to utilise CUDA so my Geforce GTX 280 could be utilised, now that's a beast!
im throwing my hat in the Sheriffs corner too. The bandits are just a little to sickly perfect - i love an underdog!
Kip should be given Mod powers so he can lock a thread, and post his updates unbroken..
Wow, it sounds like this update is going to be immense. I think I'm anticiapting this more than I did for the release of the game itself!
Woo, update may or may not be coming shortly, but the first season is done, which is an update in and of itself.
Mon the Sheriffs!
Wow...my optician would no doubt be very worried by this.... i on the other hand cannot wait to see the first of many no doubt epic updates.I'll go as quickly as I can, but at the moment there are 22 sections planned
Am I the only one still rooting for the Bandits, now that the Sherriffs are here?Mon the Sheriffs!
Yeah, that's what I meant.
Bandit's through and through here (although watching Miller from Sheriffs closely)
In reality these season updates are realistically going to take maybe 3 times as long as last years ones. Making a 70 year experiment about 6 years or real life
Thats just my prediction anyway. This'll be a long one
I get the feeling it'll be quite a bit shorter
Because if he tried to run 70 seasons on his PC it would probably die considering the detail....
Well ok but my point is that given how many leagues he's running on full detail and the fact that there are a whopping 22 posts in an update its going to take at least 3 times as long per season. IMO of course.
Yup, imagine how slow it would be after 70 seasons \o/
I'm going to Prague knowing that when I come back there will probably be at least one update ready when I get back
*Shoves the Star on his chest*
For once I have to agree with Iacovone, I'm all for the LAW! Lets arrest those bandits and put them in the cells. Relegation in season 1 following all the superstars being unhappy with each other and refusing to pass.
Yeah this is the problem with the added detail this time - to be honest i can see this one only lasting 10-20 years for that reason alone. Kip - i hope if this does happen, you'll start again and just run the English leagues? Would still be an interesting experiment, i reckon...
Can't you delete all previous information in your game? If Kip backed his game up every season all the details would be preserved anyway and the current game would have no previous information so it would be like new again. I'm sure that would make holidaying faster.
yes but then the game wouldnt be influenced by its own past events....and thus there wouldnt be much interest...
22 sections planned?
Well, looks like it will be a very thorough update, but I personally would rather see a few less sections and a few more updates... maybe some of the sections might only be done every few season? (although, of course, it's all up to Kip, and whatever he chooses, we'll all be grateful for it!)
Quality over quantity.
I'm with Roberto, Quality is always best
I said it before but I'll say it again anyway, I'm all for quality over quantity, roberto922 ftw \o/
22 sections ? Dear god ! I can't wait
Am practically frothing at the mouth ...
I got back from camping today. straight to work. and now i've finished ive came straight on here to check for an update.. not facebook or anything. This! Hoping its soon!
Slightly worried about the potential longevity of this experiment. If indeed it does only last 10 - 20 seasons it would be a massive anti climax. However I do have faith in kipfizh and trust he has already thought this one through...???
And it's back for 2009!
I loved this experiment, and followed (all be it very quietly) since it's inception. Right now I can say that while I'm a massive bandits fan I'm going to do a Anakin Skywalker and move over to the dark side.... Up the Sheriffs!
I don't know why, but I love an underdog, and the sheriffs (should) be the good guys!
Eagerly awaiting an update....
Hi kipfizh, long time fan of the original experiment here, just wanted to join in with saying how much I'm looking forward to this new version.
Also had a small suggestion/request to make. Rather than just calling the original superstars by their position (Goalkeeper 1 etc.) do think it would be possible to let us know what they are all called and maybe refer to them by their name and position during the updates? e.g. Michael Jones (Goalkeeper 1). It just strikes me that the biggest stars of the original experiment were people like Ryan Morley and Danny Gamble and Carlo Lupo, and it might be easier to get attached to the original stars if we knew their names (also true of the idiots; we could hate them as much as we hated Maia).
That's their actual names John. And everyone remembers Striker 3
I thought i remembered kip saying after most of them retired last time that the positions were just nicknames that he'd set, I could be wrong.
They were nicknames, Kip put them in with normal names and then nicknamed them to Goalkeeper 1 etc to make them easier for us (and him presumably) to track.
Quick bit of trivia, what was Striker 3's real name?
Anyone else think Kip should sign up to twitter?
Folks, this time their actual names are 'Striker 3', and so on. It is just easier to track that way, otherwise you'll be scrolling around trying to remember where Clive Jones plays.
As for those worried about the game detail, don't. Yes, it took a few extra hours to run the season with all the detail, but that pales in comparison to the amount of time it takes to write the report up. And the other countries are just covered in a brief section telling you who has won what. So that isn't what is delaying the report.
What is delaying the report is work commitments But it is progressing nicely. I will be asking for feedback on the report structure after I post, and I welcome criticism
Oh, and I'll probably be joining Twitter soon.
can't wait for this kipfizh!
Kip - im not worried so much about the time it takes to run a season, but the load your computer will have to take. On that detail level, i can see the game packing up in 10-20 years and crashing each time....possibly taking your pc with it if you're unlucky...
But i guess you know what you're doing!!
There are rumours that Chuck 'The Texas Ranger' Norris will be joining The Sheriffs in next few days. In that case, running this experiment form Bandits point of view is mostly pointless.
I agree with Von Johnson...err I mean Blade hehe
(in a bad blazing saddles type accent)
Yay! Its finally here.
- Half the Bandits, including both Strikers, will be gone to the championship or midlle - lower Prem sides.
- The rest by the end of the seson, minus goalkeeper two will be gone. Goalie two will stay tilll season 3
- The idiots will end up at Tottenham, Newcastle and Lazio
- A game will end Bandits 22 - 0 Opposition
- Bandits first with no defeats or draws, Sheriffs 2nd with 2 defeats, both to Bandits.
- Shefiffs manager sacked after 2 seasons. Bandits leaves after 3
- Top Flight for Bandits in 20 years. Coming in 10th - 5th for ten years. Then 2nd next and round of 16 dropouts from champs league. Mid-tabe obscurity for another ten, with 5 league cups. 3 successive Relegations and promations. An FA cup win follows and a Prem win in 65 years.
- Idiots turn into Rafa Benitez like managers, suffer a mental break down and turn into angry editorial writers, complaining how the game was better in their days.

Hmm, the waitings starting to get to even me now
C'mon the Sheriffs!! I feel kip is working out how to break it to us that they've outdone the Bandits already
The OP will need to be edited to direct people who stumble across this later to the first set of updates on page 4 (or at this rate maybe even page 5 )
