We're on the FM10 site now.
Not sure if everyone has noticed but we have a transfer page for each month now on the wiki. This is to help anyone who wishes to update the database to keep it up-to-date. Please only update when a transfer occurs. Can someone help me during Monday and Tuesday to make sure that we don't miss a transfer before the deadline if possible.
Thanks in advance
Stig
I'll try and help if I have time stig. If this is any help to you, this thread from the editors hideaway lists a good few sites that track player transfers.
I will be changing the featured content page tonight. If you have any suggestions for it, let me know.
It's amazing how much more views a page gets when it's put on the sidebar. The featured content page was up for about a month and a half before we had put it on the sidebar. The day I put it on the sidebar, it had 300 views. Now it has just short of 2,000 views.
Thanks for that Alan. That's a quality site and just what I need.
Just noticed this site for first time today......Great work to all involved![]()
Just a heads up - the FM10 feature blogs will be starting mid-next week. Can anyone remember who is doing the blogs? Is it me? Also I expect the podcasts to start soon afterwards if it's anything like last year.
Cheers hilly![]()
Think it was just you Alan.
Hilly_Boro - Add whatever you think that you specialise in if you have spare time to help us if possible.
I've re-done the featured content page, if someone could give it a look and recommend any changes that'd be great. I'll be adding another 2-4 pages to it tomorrow most likely.
Could someone with FM09 installed on their PC please pass me on a screenshot of Hugo Lloris? Thanks![]()
A short interview with Miles will be up on the site in a few hours. It's the first of a few interviews we've had with SI employees - the rest of them will be posted in the next few weeks/months I'd imagine. I'll make it the featured article so most users won't miss it.

Transfer moves from today that have been confirmed so far are on the wiki - more could be on the way (who knows?)
Alan, I'm on the internet now and am writing it up - I'm also going to put it on the sidebar for a bit to get attention to it.
'Tis up![]()
It was quieter than I expected tbh and had Gus Crazy constantly updating me with the deals. Definitely a shame that no big deal went through.
Can anyone put fmweegie update site on fansite list?
Just written my opinions one the current Liverpool squad.
Cheers CrashOverride, didn't you already have an account on the site as HF?
by the way, who can make changes to the wiki pages? Can I change wiki pages if I find some important information is missing or new information is found? (of course after discussing here first)
I've posted a thread in the FML Forums in the hope that we may get some new additional FML editors to assist with that particular game

Do you think we should go this way with our team guides? - Crewe Alex FM09
JJay - Looks good, but you didn't mention the Q&A's in the buildup to FM10 section
Stig - You mean the 'what game releases' thing?
Blame copy and paste... I didn't write ALL of that - but you must have realised that much
I've managed to sneak in the brilliant Q+A sessions in to the post![]()
I have found that there is no section regarding LLM aka lower league management. I think LLM is an integral part of FM series and so is a career game. We should include these two sections in the wiki.
What it should contain:
1. brief description about the game type.
2. standard rules to start a game
3. possible suggestions for these types of games
![]()
Few quick suggestions:
-Remove the "we have 100% original content" bit from the OP in the fansite section. It's not true at all - sites that have granted us permission to use such and such from their site and that's not original
-Use a regular page as opposed to a category page for the Q&A sessions. I think we could make it look a lot better if it was that way.
-On the 'Crewe Alexandra FM09' page do you think we should have FM09 in brackets? Small niggley thing but I think it'd look better that way. (By the way, I thought we were just having FM09, FM08, FM10 etc sections on the one page instead of having separate pages?)
We need to have something like that on the site soon imo. Does anyone here play LLM (doesn't matter if it's by the LLM forum's strict rules or not) that could do something with this?
Also is anyone willing to give me a hand with FM10 feature pages? I'm struggling to keep up![]()

I can setup a page for LLM or Career game guide, at least I can try it.
For team guides there should be a page per version. Its player profiles that need to be on the same page.
I think for the main page (the team name page eg Arsenal) should just be brief, focus on being the content page. Personally I think that Crewe one has a bit too much. I think, on the club content page, there should be;
Links to related pages (eg FM08 page, FM09 page, stadium page)
Brief real life info (then none on club pages)
Basic info (eg the important things from the Information page on FM)
Up to date squad, or real life transfers that aren't on the game. I'll do a template at about 7 in case you don't understand, and just to make it clearer.
I'm going to use my dads dongle internet thing, so I'll be back tonight.
I'm just busy atm, and it's most likely gonna get a lot worse soon. I have the weekend off now so I'll read up on the blogs in a while and add the new features to the feature pages.

That sort of thing.
For the Category 'Club Guides' have links to that page, with individual ones (e.g. Arsenal FM09) in a seperate sub category in 'Club Guides called FM09 Club Guides.
Thoughts?
Yeah that looks good. Do you think we should have the current squad in there as well?
I would help with the features Alan, but it is that bloody website which the blogs are put on, that puts me off doing it.
They give the article a tenth of the screen and fill the rest with clicky articles![]()
Personally, I'd leave out the were you looking for section and just add a "FM08 article here" or something similar at the top of the page, or even keep advice for all games together to keep things consistent. But I'm not doing much on the clubs so I'm not bothered really.
Copy the text from a blog into word and then read it would be an idea.
Bleedin' internet stick isn't working on my computer, no idea why but it won't be til the 9th (when Sky have said they'll install it) that I'll be able to start working as before.
http://footballmanagerwiki.co.uk/ind...ackroom_Advice
Is the layout there okay? I didn't miss out on anything on the blogs did I?
Looks good AlanSorry i haven't been able to do my section of the FM10 announcements, which IIRC is the forum stuff, but i've got a mamouth amount of coursework atm
![]()
Does the (FM09) next to club guides look okay? I've only done a few, incase it doesn't look alright.
To be honest, I don't like it but there's no way to get around it if we were to have a separate page for each version. I think that we should have all info related to the club on one page. Then maybe, if the general feeling was that there was too much text on one page then maybe just link to the page with FM0-whatever specific info at the top of the page.
Oh, and you've added an (FM09) tag to some pages that have no FM09 info whatsoever, and there's no need doing that. If we were to decide that we'd put 09 at the end of 09 pages, we'd need to make sure that there was some 09-specific info on the page first.
That's okay Tom. But if you're not going to do anything on the FM10 section, please just drop out of it. It's much less irritating saying you'll do nothing than keep making promises that you won't end up acting on. It's much easier for me that way![]()
I don't like it either, but what other option is there? I'm sorry, but having guides for more than one game on one page will mean things are going to get lost, people will get confused as to what is for what and it generally won't be easy to use.
I only added tags to pages that were in the Club Guides category, all of which should be for FM2009 seeing as that's the only game we've been around for. I automatically assumed that, as all of them were taken from these forums, they would all have FM09 info on them. Care to link me to the ones that don't? They can be deleted, no point having a page with no FM info.
I'll come up with a mock-up of what I was thinking of in a min.
Athletic Bilbao is one that I remember.
No. You're supposed to argue with me here, otherwise we'll never get anywhere
This is an open invitation to argue with me if you don't agree with my ideas. I much prefer it that way.
Alan .
Bilbao is deleted - can be restored but no point having a page with no FM info, it's just wasting space and doesn't have anything specifically to do with any FM.
Alan -
On the about page, how would I made Template:shortbanner have all the text in the middle? I tried <center></center> but it didn't work...
Thought that, as that is one of the most visited page, it should be a bit more organised than it was.
Also, how do you seperate the templates?
![]()
I think the banner looks great as it is tbh. If we were to have it centred, it'd probably screw everything up (literally).
What do you mean by separating templates?
I'll do the mock-up of the team page tomorrow, too tired to do it now.
Aah, I see what you were trying to do with the shortbanner now. I have centred it for you.
What do you mean by separating templates though?
Last edited by ahmufcwafc; 06-09-2009 at 13:10.
Have a look at the About page, there are four templates used. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th are all inside the first one, 3rd and 4th inside the second (etc). Not sure how to split them?
Fwiw, I don't know who it was that removed JSalter - I copied the exact same list as before.

They look better like that imho. I could change them, but it involve deleting and rearranging templates and it would get very messy.
You don't have to make a template for every text box btw.
Oh - how can you make them without?
I take it you don't understand the purpose of templates at all then?
Templates are used to automatically input the same few lines text (or text boxes, logos, almost anything that can be used with wiki software) onto pages that you want them to appear on. It just a lazy man's way of doing things - instead of typing out the same big long code on 20 different pages, you will just have to type a small code into those pages. The reason we started using templates with text boxes is because they take up a lot of code and makes the edit page look a bit confusing. That doesn't mean you have to use templates, I don't even use them all the time.
To answer your question, all you have to do is dump all the text in the template page onto the page you were using the template on.
To make the text boxes easier for you, I made a few text box templates a while back - greenbox, bluebox and text box.
Greenbox is like the green boxes on the main page, bluebox is like the blue boxes on the main page and textbox is like the boxes used in disclaimers.
What you need to do when using the greenbox template for example is type:
If you want to make your own template to use on different pages, but maybe you want a word or two to be different on a few pages (take the start of a player profile as an example), you need to do this:Code:{{greenbox |text=Whatever you want to type in here }}
Then when you want to implement this template onto a certain page, you'd type:Code:{{{name}}} is a {{{nationality}}} {{{position}}}. He currently plays for {{{club}}} in the {{{league}}}. He also plays for the {{{nation}}} national team.
Theoretically we could use that for player profiles, but we'd end up typing more text than usual so it'd be completely pointless.Code:{{name of template |name= |nationality= |position= |club= |league= |nation= }}
Can't believe it took me this long to reply to such a small question![]()

Oh, and stig - if you don't want an asterisk appear as a bullet point, you just stick <nowiki>*</nowiki> around it. I see you've been trying to get around that a bit, well at least I think that's what you were trying to do.
Just checked the fm wiki and couldn't find any on formations. Is there anything?
Not really, there's bits and pieces in the club guides but no real guides on formations. The tactics page has a bit of info but not all that much. I think it's fair to say that we've no real tactical experts here. I could try some myself, but it's likely I'd be talking complete and utter crap
That's tactics an LLM pages we've had requests for the last few days. I'll stick a to-do list up at the top of the current events page and see if that gets us anywhere. I'll also have a look through FM-Britain for tactics guides as we're allowed to use their stuff and they're a great site for tactics. That's about all I can do though.
http://footballmanagerwiki.co.uk/ind...?title=Sandbox
This is what I was thinking of having for old club guides.
I don't like that tbh. You can barely see it on the page so people looking for previous versions may not be able to see it.
I'm not sure what else it is about it, but for me it just doesn't look right.
Let's see what the majority think![]()
Which do you prefer Jammy? Alan's system for it or mine?
Yeah, I don't like Alan's system either.
It is way too small to notice it and might confuse people.
I will knock one up and see what you think.
I've already put one up on the Crewe page if you think that is better Rob.
Let's make this a little competition - whoever comes up with the best design for club pages gets a secret prize
What's the difference between the Crewe page and the others stig?
Nothing new. I was just mentioning the 'design' I set up just incase people have missed it.
Edit: 3400th post.
Ah, I think I understand now. Club guides don't have much consistency though so it's hard to tell when a change in layout.
BTW I'm serious about the prize. If someone can come up with a really impressive new layout for club pages, I will have one of the prizes we get in sent to you![]()
*Tries hard to win*
I hope you're being serious
I won't make myself part of this competition. I'll just help you if you have an idea but aren't sure how to type it up properly on the wiki.
No I wasn't.
Guys, I'm changing the sub heading on all player profiles to 'Football Manager 2009 Information'. Would anyone be able to give me a hand doing this? If yes, starting from the bottom would be great (y) as I'm going from A.
Also, if someone can help, can you make sure there are two ='s? It makes it so the sub heading isnt the same size as the title.
Thanks![]()
Will do Jammy.
Cheers mate, I'm about to start again now. 2nd Q&A is now up - Ter this time![]()
Ter's responses are fantasticWell worth the wait.
Yep, completely agree - top guy he is!
They are great. Ter =![]()
How come you don't say what Q&A session is up yet Jammy? Have you not sorted everything out with the other guys yet?
I've twittered/tweetled/whatever the hell its called about the new blog plugging the interview btw![]()
I will have a go at making up a design and have it done tomorrow.
I am fine for doing the podcasts as long as someone tells me when they start :embarrased:
I'll let you know if I'm told beforehand, but you'll probably hear about it on this forum anyway Rob.
No, I'm not completely sure yet - I'm in the process of getting more answers![]()
As of about half 10 tonight (10th) I have been made a mod on the site so if there are anything that anyone would like changing on the site let me know. [Only changes likely to improve the site will be considered]
Edit - All of the player profiles now have ==Football Manager 2009 Information== sorted ready for FM10.

Cheers Stig
Can you let me know exactly what extra it is you can now do? Whack me a PM if you get a minute please![]()
What on earth are you on about?
Well, it's fairly simple really. I asked him what other options he has now he is a mod rather than a regular user.
He can move pages and ban users. That's all.
Edit posts? What are you on about?Originally Posted by ahmufcwafc

EDIT: Just seen you've changed your post - I'm pretty sure he could already move pages?
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 11-09-2009 at 19:09.
In the forum of course
It's not what I meant though. Meant to say move pages.
Ah right - so he can't delete pages?
Don't think I can Jammy. I'll check later on.
No I can't delete pages. Over the next week or so, i'll sort out the club guides and make FM09 pages and categories and have the current information are general pages for the clubs including the new links for the FM09 pages near the top of each 'new' club guide. If anyone is confused by this let me know.
Fixed the delete problem for you stig.
Cheers Alan. What does the ! mean on the recent changes page? Does it mean my changes?
No idea, but it's definitely not highlighting what edits you've made - I can see them by your name also but they still aren't beside mine.
If I go on one of the pages I can [Mark this page as patrolled]. Quality![]()
Exclamation mark means minor edit I believe.
OK. Thought it was something that I did.
Alan- I'll have a go at the club page design for you when I have some time, m'kay?
You're only doing it for the prize
