Only use IE but it's fine for me.
Must be a firefox problem then.
I've cleaned up the main page a bit. Click the edit button and you'll see it's a good bit cleaner than before. Same look as before though.
I use Firefox and never have any problems with it?
Might be your internet settings for Firefox.
EDIT: All Arsenal players with pages have FM info on their page. I'm going to try and get as many Arsenal players done as I can before I go back to work.
That seems alright Alan
*checks to make sure it is Alan*
Edit: It is Alan
Agreed with stig. Nothing wrong with that at all
Great, PM sent.
With the announcement on FM10 coming in August, do you think we should run some kind of feature tracker? Looking at the amount of info we got into the page on one screenshot, I can see the FM10 page become really crowded soon enough. How about we open a new category going into detail on new FM10 features, and then have a normal list in the general FM10 page, without going into much detail. Just an idea, no idea if it'd actually work out. All I know is that if SI are going to be drip feeding features to random sites like last year it's going to be hard to find them all. Would be nice to have a list of them all on fm wiki imo.
The stuff that Miles posted needs to be drastically cut down, just pick out the core bits from that and don't quote him
out of interest, why does Marc Vivien Foe have a player profile? Seems a bit silly since he was never even on a Football Manager game. Don't know if you've got loads of players in there that haven't, but just noticed him and thought it was strange.
Maybe have a FM10 page (like the one that's already there) and then have a new FM10 features page.
Or we could move the Twittergate part onto it's own page and then just have the FM10 page for new features?
To be honest I'm not keen on the idea of a new page for each feature. The amount you could say about each feature would be minimal, for example how much would we have been able to say about Transfer Rumours on 09? Personally I think it would be best to have a FM10 Features page, to have the big features with their own section and then have a last section for smaller features. I'll do an example for FM09.
Page Name - New Features on FM09
=3D Match Views=
(talk about 3D)
(talk about PC's)
(talk about x [x=other big feature that I can't remember])
(talk about small features added in)
I can't remember what was new for FM09 so the above is very rough, but I feel that would be best. I don't think it would be too long either.
IMO if we were to do it that way we might as well have it all in the one page. It'd be easier to have all info in the one page. Thinking about it, there's not a whole lot to be said about new features.
Regarding the wikipedia copied articles;
My mum works in a financial advisors, so of course she has a lot of solicitors and legal boffs in her work place. I've spoken to her about the articles copied from wikipedia and she said that, tomorrow at work, she will ask one of the directors and get their advice on what we should do.
I'll let you know what they say when my mum tells me, should be mid day tomorrow sort of thing (about 1:00 - 2:00 GMT [Neil, I want your job]).
If they say it should be alright I still think we should cut them down a bit, maybe make them one paragraph.
Sounds good to me Alan
I'll get my coat... :o
Just spent the last hour doing what I asked you to do, lazy bugger ;D
All player profiles that are 100% original content are in their own category called 'Completed Player Profiles'.
The player profiles that are not done are in the normal Player Profile category. We should to try and rewrite as many as we can.
Personally I think the best way to do this is to write one or two lines of history, basically introducing the player, saying their name, club and nationality.
Then put ==Football Manager Information== and under that write a few lines about a player in Football Manager. I did quite a few for Arsenal yesterday, for example Vito Mannone.
There are huge amounts of players who are in the normal player profile category, so I'm sure everyone could do at least a few players. The players we can't get FM info for I think we should delete, so we don't have non-FM info on them.
You may notice that I have deleted a few player profiles. These are the ones that had absolutely nothing on them except the player profile tag and a screenshot that wasn't working properly. There may be some more of these left in there, I only checked about 75% of all players, if there is just let me or Alan know and one of us will delete that.
Right, I'm boring myself. That'll be all then
HERE IS THE COMPLETED PLAYER PROFILE CATEGORY - if a player you know reasonable amounts about isn't in there then you can make/develop a page on them

Just so you know, something in that wikis is wrong: that a player must have a PA over 170 to be a Wonderkid. I have had 3 players with a PA under 170 become a Wonderkid.
Not sure who wrote that page, I'll leave it in until someone can confirm that that is the case, as I'd always thought it was correct.
Very good place; not many stuff yet, though.
I spent a few hours today and yesterday doing a massive cleanup of the site. You'd be surprised how much crap builds up after a few months, there was loads of stuff I found that we don't even use.
I've made a list of a few badges we need for club pages. If anyone could give me a hand that'd be great, if not I'll just go ahead and do it myself as usual.
No idea about the wonderkids thing tbh.
Yeah we have a decent amount of space now.Code:ac milan ajax aalborg (AB) ascoli athletic bilbao barnsley birmingham blackpool bolton brighton burnley carlisle Castilla cheltenham town chester city coventry crystal palace crystal palace baltimore derby barca b fluminense hemel hempstead town histon fc inter ipswich joinville fc la galaxy leeds leicester luton mk dons norwich notts county oldham psv port vale portsmouth preston scunthorpe sheffield united torquay walsall wrexham
Blimey, that's quite a lot! I'll do from Hemel Hempstead Town down and you can do from the top to Fluminense?
Yeah, sounds good to me.
What size are they now? 100px? If so, I think we should make them a bit bigger. Looks less boring if it has a bigger image imo, maybe 150px?
EDIT: I've changed it on the Arsenal page, looks a lot better imo.
EDIT: Mine are all done now

I much prefer the current size tbh.
We got attacked by advertisers. Banned them and their IPs for a week.
That's our spammer Peter. If you don't mind I'll make it a permaban and re-name the user.
Why is advertisers funny
Dunno, just the way you said we were "attacked by advertisers" made me giggle

For me it clearly reads "Banned user", obviously edited to make me look bad. You so crazy.
I think/hope i've just banned someone, renamed them and edited the content from their page.
Alan, could you see if theres anything else that I was meant to do? First time
That's all right afaik.
Buy study habits? Looks like someone is running out of ideas
Guess who's back?
Welcome back mate. Don't think you've missed all that much, apart from a small cleanup of the site.
Yeah, good to see you back Rob
Don't know if anyone remembers the post from about a week ago about me asking my mum about the Wikipedia articles.
As she was off work Monday to Wednesday, and forgot to ask on Thursday, friday was the first day that she could ask them.
They said that, whilst the chances that Wikipedia would take legal action is unlikely, to protect ourselves we should either
- Put 'This has been taken directly from Wikipedia' tags on every page that is copied from wiki. However this does still not rule out people taking action as we still have not got permission.
- Take small pieces of information where absolutely nessecary, but for as many pages as possible we should not use Wikipedia content. For those pages that ONLY contain Wikipedia content, and we can not develop to have more than that, we should delete, as the text we do not have permission for will be easy to see.
So basically, it would be best to remove as much of the information as possible. Having a small piece here and there shouldn't matter, but personally I feel it is better to have as little real life information as possible and focus on developing the FM side.
For those pages we can't get FM information for I think we should delete, as it is not worth the risk of anything happening for us taking the content.

I think that if we all pull together and decide what areas we should and shouldn't keep, we can get it sorted
Maybe we set a deadline for us to re-do the pages once we've decided fully on what we're going to do - the end of August, maybe? Just ideas now, I don't know much about the profiles but I'll be willing to help if you tell me what I'm to do.
By the way stig, do you want to make a page on OTF radio? Someone linked me to it earlier today and it reminded me that you were going to make a page on it a few months back.
I'll sort out content with Gen-Next before starting it. May be on by the end of the week depending on work and other commitments.
Yeah that's fine, I don't mind when you put it up.
Does anyone know a lot about FMRTE? Started a page on it myself but there isn't all that much I could think of to put on it...
Never used it FMRTE, so I can't help.
I will do add some FM information into the player profiles over the next few days.
As well as uploading some stadium articles I did, around 2 months ago
Yeah I was thinking you were taking your time with those stadiums Robert
I have only been on the forums extremely causally for the last month or so, because they died down a little IMO, but I think it is time to make my comeback. I followed threads such as this one, and a few of the sign-ups and challenges but I didn't post as much.
I agree on the Wikipedia issue though, little or no information from them at all, as TBF, if we had them all copied from Wikipedia, they would be crap.
I can't ban people, at least I don't think I can , so ban please:
Our advertisers are back
Thanks mate, I'll ban him now.
EDIT: Done - some people really need to get a life
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 28-07-2009 at 11:40.
Check the best eleven with no signings bit mate - is that how you want it to look like?
Did you change it?
I edited it, to be completely different to that and like the with recommended signings one.
EDIT: Just checked. You did change it
No, I prefer it more spaced out with links to the players so, when all the players are finished, people can just click on the players off that screen and, check how to play them.
Ah okay, you can change it back them.
Edit: Which you have done
Next, the player profiles. What do you all feel should be done with them. Some have said that a line or two of real life info should be all we have, with more detail on FM related info. We have some new player profiles from Jammy and all the guys from GPTG and I must say they look really good.
Really don't mean to be an ass but if we're not able to come to decision in this thread soon enough, I'll probably just have to do a massive clearout on the site, which I really don't want to do. Better safe than sorry though, the last thing I want is wikipedia on our case.
Thanks a lot guys
Guys, I've edited the Why Have We Set This Up part of the main page a little, this is not permanent. I'm hoping that it may make a difference to the amount of spamming accounts we have registered, although I doubt it will.
With regards to what Alan said above me, I think we should set a limit on how long we should give it before the pages with Wikipedia info on them are deleted. For the non-player profiles I think we could delete anytime, however for the player profile pages (as some may be edited to have FM information on them) I think we should give it a few days (perhaps until the 4th or 5th of August?) before deleting.
If no one minds then either Alan or I will delete the non player profiles today.
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 30-07-2009 at 15:23.
Check the OP now guys, any problems with it just let me know.
Thanks a lot mate, one thing however, would you be able to put
[size=5][url=www.footballmanagerwiki.co.uk]Welcome to Football Manager Wiki![/url ][/size ]
at the very top of the page, even above the logo please? Cheers (Obviously remove the spaces between the code and the ]'s.
Like so ?
Judging by the little amount of work that has been done recently towards the player profiles, personally I wouldn't say that much more is going to be done other than what is done in the next few days - like the last time we started editing them. Maybe the 4th or 5th is too early - although I wouldn't say any later than the middle of August to be honest.
10th of August sounds reasonable to me, as we can then extend it if work is still being done on them.
And, if it isn't, they won't be on there for long
It's around 600 pages we're talking about here fwiw.
Alan, when shall we delete the non player profiles?
Also, hi to Frog19021996
Rob, do you want to write something up on your 1000 appearance challenge? Up to you ofc.
And Hamilton, almost forgot about you! Route to the top would be welcome as well
Last edited by ahmufcwafc; 30-07-2009 at 23:10. Reason: Forgot about Tom.
Slight problem there Alan. The file's are corrupted, so i've emailed them to a mate who's a computer freak to see if he can sort them out. If he can, then i'll start updating again. But there's a high chance that that won't happen I'm getting the results emailed to me at 12 today, so i'll know by then.
I might start another sign-up that's similar to it in a while though.
You can get people to fix save files? Never knew that.
THIS is why you should always use rolling autosaves
Well, he said he'd have a go using some tricks that he knows. Doubts if it'll work though as he's never worked with an .fm file type before. He's going to take a look at the coding to see if he can spot anything that doesn't look right compared to one of my other .fm files
I did use rolling autosave, but all 3 corrupted damn it!!! I tried defragmenting my disk, but it didn't work
Tom, do you run an Anti-virus program?
And, if so, does it check your FM folders?
Anti-virus isn't the problem, my mate's already checked over that.
90 done at the moment, so 150 seems achievable.
I've moved the player profile categories around, so that the completed player profiles are the main category and the old player profiles are the sub category - seems better to have the completed ones easier to see.
If anyone thinks that it was better how it was before, feel free to change it around again by undo'ing my edits that I just did.

Any suggestions for what we should have as our featured article this month? The featured articles page could use a change too...
What is the Live Chat Room used for?
I tried to sign in but kept getting errors and it would log me out immediately.
Just started my 1000 appearence article and I will finish it later.
JJay put the chat room feature in when we last upgraded software. Don't know if anyone uses it tbh, I was only ever online there the first day or two. There was very little activity
Might be an idea to use it more often, but I can't see it catching on much tbh.
Yeah, I get error messages half the time I try to connect as well.
Alan - May i suggest my Wycombe Wanderers article to be the featured article?
All pages that only contain screenshots are being deleted now - if there are any pages in particular that people want restored so Football Manager related information can be added to them either Alan or myself will sort it
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 01-08-2009 at 23:16.
We will be doing something with them when JJay re-uploads them to photobucket though
I think the site is down?
JJay's just changing the registration system Jammy. No idea when it'll be back up fully. Shouldn't be long I'd imagine.
Should all be back to normal, and Alan you have what you wanted
Yep, its back up and the registration thing works well - cheers JJay

Alan, what is the Community Portal to be used for?
And, say, I wanted to use it, what would I put etc.?
The Community Portal has been locked unfortunately, so only admins can edit it. The same applies to the Main Page, Rulebook (new) and Current Events page (also new). EDIT: Ignore this, I'm an idiot
The main point of the Communit Portal is so we can update those who may not be regulars in this thread as to what is happening regarding the Wiki, as well as giving a more lengthy introduction to how the site came about. It's basically a way for us to interact with the readers of the site, to make ourselves a more of a community site.
The current events page is to write about our plans for the short term future of the website, saying what our plans are to develop the site. This will be updated regularly (every couple of weeks sort of thing) for two reasons, firstly so we can make sure we get everything planned done but also so people know what they can expect in the future from the site.
If you have read that you will notice that we have set the deadline for player profiles as this Thursday, as they don't have much work being done. Although we came to this decision yesterday, there has been some more work done today so if it continues like this then it is likely we will extend the deadline furthur.
(Although sorry, I'm not Alan )
Although would you be able to do me a favour please? Try and write something on the Discussion page of the main page, to see if that's been locked too. If it has I'll unlock the Main Page, as hopefully that will become useful for questions about the site. Cheers
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 04-08-2009 at 12:42.
The community portal hasn't been locked, regular users should be able to update just as well as anyone so there's not much point locking it. Not sure what exactly we should use it for so you write whatever you want in it for now
When was the player profile deadline taken forward!?
As long as people are making edits on the profiles you should keep them up imo. The end of this month should be the absolute latest time we have this sorted by though.
Rob - what were you thinking of using the portal for? By all means go for it.
Rob, are you going to be putting the link to the CA/PA page in all player profles? If not, its best not to have it in there imo, to keep them as consistant as possible. However if you are planning on adding them into them all then it's great
A little template here for those who are going to be editing Player Profile pages, it may save you a couple of minutes.
Best to edit out all of the real life information that's already there - it only takes a second to write a sentence about the player
[Player Name] is a [nationality] footballer who plays as a [position] for [name of club].
==Football Manager Information==
[Player Name] has a CA of [value] and a PA of [value].
[Information about player - best position, price to buy and sell, player tactical instructions etc]

Alan and myself agreed on the 6th last night as there hadn't been any edits to them so it seemed pointless keeping them there when no work was being done. But so long as the work being done tonight continues, the 10th is fine too.
Ok, seems fair.
It is just us 3 doing them, mostly I think, so I guess whenever we get bored of doing them, we delete the Wikipedia ones
