  1. Gonna be Rafa then. No more sitting back and keeping it tight waiting for that once chance per game. Oh.
  2. I completely forgot the third place playoff was a thing. Should just bin it.
  3. Has any explanation been given about why Saka came off? People were speculating he had a knock or was run ragged but I’m not sure if Southgate has ever explained it (or even been asked). If it was purely tactical then it looks like a bad decision.
  4. I always like having the wide men cutting inside on their stronger foot while the fullbacks overlap. Saw plenty of Shaw pushing up but not sure I remember Walker crossing the half way line. Presumably was told to stick to Mbappe for the entire match.
  5. Wallace shaving a ‘mare there. Who needs those foreign coaches with all their winning trophies stuff when we can appoint an English manager and hold our heads high at a courageous defeat?
  6. I’m not sure what he does if he leaves now. Isn’t going to get a big club so all he can do is a mid-table Premiership side willing to take a punt. Feels like this is the peak of his career and does he want to give that up when some of these young players are only going to get better? Suppose the FA might give him some role behind the scenes but even that’s going to be a step down.
  7. Mount was getting ready to come on before Giroud scored so I assumed once England went behind they’d change the sub but went ahead anyway. Obviously won the pent but it wasn’t exactly a tactical master stroke and more a braindead defensive decision. How many players are vying for that left hand attacking spot vs the right? Probably have Foden, Sterling, Grealish, Rashford and even Sancho wanting that spot while on the right there’s Saka and…no one? Of course some of those can do a job on the right but they’re far more comfortable on the left.
  8. Could have literally put Kane in central midfield and stuck Wilson or Rashford up front. The few times when Kane pushed forward he looked dangerous, but then spent most of the time dropping deep.
  9. Seems to be a trait of tournament football. In the group stages teams will push for more goals but in the knockout they’re more focussed on keeping the lead than pushing for another.
  10. ‘It all evens itself out over the season’. Based on no statistical evidence ever.
  11. Gvardiol’s looked great. Are any big clubs eyeing him up?
  12. Can only assume Neymar wanted to take the winning pen and it backfired spectacularly.
  13. Spirited defeat against France followed by a new 5-year contract for Sir Gareth. It’s the English way.
