  1. It wouldn't be a substitute as one is an action with the ball (counter = we got the ball, let's attack quickly!), the other is an action without the ball (counter press = we've not got the ball, quick chase it!). I'm not a fan of chasing the ball. The default for a successful tactic in this game is to turn on counter press, turn up pressing, and have the highest defensive line. This works by sheer brute force, you're basically telling you players to run after the ball with no regard for anything else (like watching under 10's playing football - they all just go to the ball constantly). It works - but it shouldn't work. It's a flaw in the match engine, one I don't like, and I think is really visually unappealing. I don't think turning all the pressing options up in the game is representative of a gegenpress (ala Rangnick), it's more extreme than that. Gegenpress is more conditional, and even then it doesn't work against top level oppositions. For example Liverpool haven't used a gegenpress style under Klopp for several years now. I think the best example of turning up all the pressing options is probably Keegan's Newcastle - who used to play totally mad high pressing football and win matches by "we'll score one more than you mentality". Which doesn't work when you come up against a technically superior team, because a quick football brain, good vision, and a desciving pass will take a two-three player press out of the game in an instant.
  2. It's mostly PI's. I believe in keeping the TI's simple and instructing the individual positions within that framework.
  3. Lol, I've not tried with 10 men yet as I've been finding very few fouls/yellows with this tactic, not had a red yet. Off the top of my head I'd say lose the box-to-box, move the DLP to the box-to-box physical position (although keep him as a DPL). That should be least disruptive to the style of play if you go down a man.
  4. Looks good, thanks for the feedback. Conceding a few too many, which I found early doors with Norwich too. I found bigger/taller/heading/jumping CB really helped. But it's definitely an area I want to tighten up. I'm not sold on the DLP. Wow, nice results. Particularly the goal difference. Interestingly it looks you've conceded the least in the league by quite some way. Any defensive tweaks? I'd be interested to see what sort of CB you usually use. Lot of questions! By not plug and play, I'm referring more to the fact that you increasingly have to manage your team in FM over the last 10 years. Tactics are a smaller and smaller part of success (which is a good thing!). I absolutely swear by rotation and conditioning in this game. I'm pretty sure you could pick any tactic and if you prepped and used your team properly you'd win. I think putting some real game time into pre season is key. And actually watching matches and seeing what your actual players do is important. For my money the player match rating system for FM is a poor guide to performance. For example: a DC can be playing like crap, but score a corner and he'll be rated 7.5-8.0. if you didn't watch the match and watch him you wouldn't know that he's playing like crap and change him when you should! I could go on for hours but that's a start BIG TIP - because this tactic is all about playing between the lines and defence splitting passes going defensive against bigger sides is just asking for trouble! It might be counter intuitive, but I like to attack bigger sides of I'm struggling against them, go for the goal.
  5. I always consider it an excellent sign when your U21's and U18's do well using your tactic. They achieved this without any interference from me, I didn't even let any of my senior squad play in the U21's this year (I forgot to set it up!)
  6. FuSSimile v1.0 (a copy) News Version 1.0 released (enter sarcastic/cutting comment here) Changes None, it's the first version (obviously) Synopsis As always with my tactics I'm aiming for football, which is successful, easy on the eye, and uses a common formation (no, I don't want 3 sodding strikers thanks!) This year it's all about through balls. There's lots of vertical play and loads of risky but beautiful passes down the channels (I've really enjoyed watching this one!) Important This tactic isn't plug and play, it'll outperform anything that is if you put some effort in though! (It's almost like this game wants you to "manage" your football club, outrageous!) As the last couple of years - I'm just sharing my personal tactic (and not a single **** will be given if it works for you or not!) Mentality I'm mostly using Standard, but if I'm not winning at 70 minutes, I switch to to attack (yes, even against bigger sides, **** um!) Team Talks Do them yourself, even the best Assistant Managers are poor at them (use the search function, that little box up there....you...yes you...that's the one...good job) Opposition Instructions I'm not using them! (Guess what SI, they're **** and don't work, now hurry up with that new match engine, you've been hawking the same one for years already) Team Selection Do it yourself (ready for the spoon-feeding kids...here we go!) Right footed inside forward on the left side of the pitch. Left footed inside forward on the right of the pitch. Right footed DC in the right DC position. Left footed DC in the left footed DC position. Pre-Season Pre-season is super important (is that important though? Wait he said SUPER important, is he ******** me? No, he means it!) I set everyone on double training and continue it for the full season (yeah, I get more injuries - but my young players advance quickly) I book a match every third day and rotate a completely different 11 each match in order to give them sufficient rest time (seriously, take 5 minutes, cancel every pre-season game, and rebook your own - if you don't and your players aren't 100% at the start of the season, you will fail, that's on you) I usually start the season with an entirely fit team and complete tactical familiarity (if you do pre-season right, you'll smash everyone, regardless of the bloody tactic!) Rotation, Rotation, Rotation Aim to have two experts for every position - ideally a first team squad of 22 players (famously advice from Jose, yes, he's actually a good manger, Pep is better you say...is he...is he really...I think you sir should think about your football know-how very carefully) Personally, I setup and save Team A and Team B and rotate them every single match - this guarantees player condition and keeps everyone happy with their playing time (may not be realistic, but by god does it work in FM....oh and buying more than 3 or 4 players isn't realistic either, so please direct your bitching to SI). If someone doesn't like it, I sell them, nobody is bigger than the club (I'm looking at your Ronaldo!) Shouts Shouts are overpowered, but easy to do, simply use them as often as you can (SI gave you a cheat button in-match, if you aren't using it, who's the idiot? It's not me...so it's you or SI....or you and SI) Drawing - Rotate "Encourage" and "Demand More" Losing - Rotate "Berate" and "Fire Up" Winning - Rotate "Praise" and "I've not quite worked this one out yet, how about you do some of the bloody work yourself?" Players CF – Deep Lying Forward (Attack) Type of player: Any excellent striker will do. Best stats: Finishing, Composure, Physical Good PPMs: "Likes to Beat Offside Trap", "Placed Shots" AML/R - Inside Forwards (Attack) Type of player: A traditional inside forward. Best stats: Dribbling, Acceleration, Finishing. Good PPMs: "Cuts Inside", "Runs with Ball Often". Note 1: SHOULD USE OPPOSITE FOOT. Note 2: I've found strikers can play well here. MCL - Box-to-Box Midfielder (Support) Type of player: Your midfield dynamo. A good box-to-box player is hard to find, but they act like having a 12th man on the pitch. Best stats: Needs decent stats across the board - a **** box-to-box is worse than no player at all! Good PPMs: "plays one-twos" MCR - Central Midfielder (Attack) Type of player: This is where you use your typical AMC superstar. Best stats: Anticipation, Decisions, and mental stats rule the roost here. Good PPMs: "plays one-twos" DMC – Deep Lying Playmaker (Defend) Type of player: You're actually after a competent DMC first and foremost, if he can also pass and create then that's a great bonus. Best stats: Tackling, Positioning, Anticipation. Note 1: This position is important, there's lots of good value DLP's out there, buy one if you don't own one. FB – Full Back (Support) Type of player: The most important position in this tactic, you're asking a lot of your full-backs, they need to be great defensively, fast, dribble and cross. Best stats: Marking, Tackling, Crossing, Dribbling, Acceleration. Good PPMs: "Runs with Ball Down The X". Note 1: This is the most important position in your team - get good players here, this is where to splash that cash! CB – Ball Playing Defenders (Defend) Type of player: Heading, Jumping and Positioning are vital as this tactic uses a high defensive line, so you'll need to win the ball in the air. Best stats: Heading, Jumping, Marking, Tackling, Positioning. Good PPMs: "Does Not Dive into Tackles" Note 1: This tactic uses a high-defensive line, that means you want your defenders to win the ball "in the air", there's a common misconception that acceleration is key, it certainly isn't bad, but you can be the faster player in the world, if you're facing the opposite direction from the attacker, you'll still lose the race - I've had better ratings from slow old DC's with amazing jumping and heading stats than I've had from quick younger DCs. SK - Sweeper Keeper (Defender) Type of player: Just the best keeper you can get hold of. Best stats: Handling, Reflexes, Arial Reach. Download below! (Download it or don’t, I could care less.). P.S. FuSS bears no responsibility for you being an idiot and sucking at the game. If you want to just buy a team of Galactico’s and click your way through seasons as fast as possible I suggest you try FIFA. Oh, no I don't keep my old tactics, stop sending me 100 messages a day asking for them, use google. Dick. P.P.S - I was full of flu when I wrote this, sorry. Much love you all! FuSSimile_v1.0.fmf
  7. I really don't like "work into box" I think it makes the team too one-dimensional, always trying to work openings rather than occasionally just having a go. I've actually been playign with the IF instructions in my personal tweak, which I'll include below, it's not ready for release yet, but might give you some ideas. FuSStive Spirit 3.3.fmf
  8. I'll admit it's not the best tactic for the striker, my guys average around a goal a game which is good in real life but not amazing for FM. That said, you've got the most "goals for" by some way
  9. Nice. I'm always interested to hear tweaks, please do share! I really don't use a CF, I find my DLF scores just fine, although some players do much better than others and I'm yet to pin down exactly what stat or PPM makes it work perfectly. I suspect "like to beat offside trap" play a big part, as it means the DLF will spend some of his time coming deep and assisting others and some of it playing high on the line....which is the best of both worlds. Good stuff! Just be aware that the AI isn't stupid these days, as you do better they'll learn to take you more seriously and setup in a way to counter the tactic. Ultimately I find myself using the mentalities more to counter this and not having to tweak anything else, which isn't too bad. When I first hit the Premier League with Norwich I pretty mcuh only used attack and everyone underestimated us, we won everything. Toward the half way point of the season the expectations got higher and other teams started taking us seriously, the result, I now mostly use Positive/Standard....and I occasionally have to use counter! Still works though.
