  1. That's a bit unfair. At least Loki Doki is very entertaining. I do have a minor gripe with all the videos released today though, they're all practically identical and a clone of one another, I'm yet to see a video showing how the new tactics and match gameplay plays out in the lowest leagues. Would have liked to have seen how a team akin to Darlington or Slough Town's level fair and whether the match is a reflection of that level. Guess we'll find out sooner or later though.
  2. Its not just the match graphics that need a significant improvement, but the whole 3d match day experience does. There was a time in FM, prior to FM18, where managing in different countries or continents actually meant something as the large variety of stadiums and backdrops the game back then provided gave us a distinct cultural flavour to the clubs we managed. From FM18 onward stadiums all became generic clones that looked like someone knocked up in their lunch hour using MS Paint. It didn't matter if you managed in the Thai 3rd division or the Finish 1st, the cultural difference was non-existent, and the 'vibe' of managing in different places was lost. I don't think we need FIFA graphics tbh, if you do a search on google for unity-based football games, you can see some that look very FM-ish but with far better aesthetics and lighting. I don't think SI will do anything radically different to those tbh, but I'd be happy with a return to the stadium variety we had pre FM18, with the beautiful lighting and pitch variety FM17 gave us, and a stadium editor so we the players can finally bring the stadiums of the world to FM ourselves and give us the endless variety the game deserves (I'd even pay extra for a stadium editor!)
  3. Middlesbrough reached both the FA Cup final and League Cup final in 1997, and were relegated. They were brilliant in the cup matches, and very poor in their league matches. (they also got deducted 3 points that eventually sent them down).
  4. Nice job, yours look better than the ones that come as standard. They have a little more 'character' at least . But your screenshots highlight just how bad the lighting is in the latest FM... as in its non existent. Compare that to the lighting in the FM17 screenshots posted earlier in the thread. Its like night and day (pun intended). Sadly FM23 graphics look like they're from a game made in the early 2000's.
  5. Yeah, flares in the crowd are another one of those small things FM17 had that added to the immersion. Eastern European crowds and South American crowds had them in the main for the big games, mirroring real life to some extent (you wouldn't see them in the British leagues for example, but the Bucharest derby, or Boca Juniors v River Plate etc, you'd often see them). I think they were removed in FM18 and onwards.
  6. I still play FM17 even though I bought 18,19, and 20. I always go back to 17 as its the only version where I can get immersed in a journmeyman save around the world and in the lower leagues, because as mentioned, those stadiums in the screenshots are the standard ones that came with FM17. There are dozens of different varieties and each country has distinct cultural aesthetics too, so managing in different leagues around the world is way more immersive. Lower league management is much more immersive too. Grass roots clubs often play on a field with just a wall, or fence surrounding the pitch, for example. The graphics, lighting, stadiums, and wealth of stadium variety from FM12 to FM17 are outstanding. Then FM18 happening and it all became generic and very bland. No more immersion with lower league management or managing abroad, everywhere looked pretty much the same and the pitch textures and lighting became dreadful to look at (imo). Looking at YT vids of FM23, I think the on field match graphics have improved since FM18, but the stadiums are still the big let down for me. A proper stadium editor would be worth the money alone at this point.
  7. It used to be an option in preferences on FM17, but like a lot of really good options we had back then, it was stripped out in later additions. If 23 doesn't have it, then maybe someone in the skinning forum may be able to make something similar. Not sure why SI removed it tbh, like you say it was a really good compromise for those who liked more ambiguity when assessing players.
  8. This should come as an option in preferences imo. Being able to see at a glance players main attributes is probably one of the fundamental factors as to why the game gets the 'its too easy' tag. Its so easy to squad build. I haven't played 21, 22, or 23, but there used to be an option to remove numbered attributes and replace them with bars so you only got a vague idea of what a players strengths and weaknesses were (not sure if that's still a thing?), but there should be more options to add more ambiguity to them, or even mask them completely. I've used an attribute-hiding skin since the FM2015 days and it makes squad building more challenging as you have to rely on other features to get an idea of how useful a new signing will be (like his match stats, ratings, scout report, and even by going to watch him play in a match where you can judge him for yourself). The ME has improved lot since the FM15 days so judging players on how they perform on the pitch in glorious 3d should be much easier these days. But all of this is old school management and squad building. It becomes a long term thing, Its not for SI's overwhelming audience who just want to win things ASAP. It takes a lot for someone whose had all the stats and facts handed to them on a sliver plate for the past 15 years for them to change the way they approach a new save. But yes, more options in preferences to either hide attributes, or add far more ambiguity to them is one thing that has been requested for years. SI can't win either way, so they will always make it 'easy'. And the game comes in easy mode by default by providing the player with all the tools and stats they need to build their squad to overcome the subpar AI ASAP. Can you imagine the complaints on here if everyone was getting hammered week in week out, even with the best teams! TL/DR: There needs to be more options built into the game that make handicapping yourself easier. No one should have to create crappy tactics or play players out of position to get a challenge (as someone mentioned on this thread!).
  9. They could release a yearly database update instead and charge a reduced fee for that. But instead they release what they claim to be a "full" game every year and charge everyone full price for it, when in reality its just last years game with a few pointless 'features' tacked on.. virtually no graphical improvements for going on 5 years now, same features people have asked for improvements on year after year going ignored in favour of manager clothing and wrist watches etc etc... But nothing will change until the sales begin to drop, as money is the only thing that matters at the end of the day. Can't blame SI really, they're a business after all. Where is the incentive to make the changes people ask for when the people will buy their game in any case? The problem lies with the blind loyalty of the fanbase who'll continue to buy the game year after year despite the features leaning ever more toward fluff and cosmetics that have little actual substance behind them. In saying that maybe there is some hope for future editions as I think this year is the first time I've seen a growing discontentment, not just on these forums, but across social media too, along with big streamers/youtubers finally saying enough is enough. We'll see.
  10. SI have never commented as to why they undid all the great graphical progress made between FM11 and FM17 with the release of the abomination that was FM18. People have been asking about this since the day FM18 was first showcased 5 years ago when it was obvious to all that the graphics had been significantly downgraded and all those wonderful camera angles (about 20 of them) were stripped out. But back then it was only a small minority of people who complained. Today its a different story, the amount of people now calling SI out on this issue is heartening to see for those of us who loved the whole match day experience of the game prior to FM18. Hopefully SI will finally begin to take note. BTW, its really good to see some of the big streamers finally mention this. I get it that people like Zealand, DoctorBenjy and WorkTheSpace make a living off the content they put out, so its a brave call of them to do that. I hope some of the other "influencers" have the bottle to follow their lead on this issue. And surely a better looking 3d match is going to attract new players to the series, and thus more viewers to their channels in the long run.
  11. This. But I'd hazard a guess this is paving the way for cosmetic microtransactions at some point. "Pay us $5 to see cutaway close ups of your managers avatar standing on the sideline during a match" "For just $1.99 extra you can marvel at all his glorious bling you've also paid us extra for". Its coming. And the sad part is, people will pay for it.
  12. I don't think many people expect Fifa type graphics for FM. That's a fallacy. I think people would be happy to see the graphical progress that was made between Fm10 / Fm-11 (when 3D was introduced), to Fm-17, return to the series. During that period the 3D graphics were steadily improved year after year, and by the time Fm-17 came along the 3D match experience was beginning to look really nice, with beautiful lighting, lots of stadium variety, and has been mentioned, a dozen or so camera angles for us to choose from. . Then something happened with the development of Fm-18 and a decision was made to downgrade the graphics dramatically as well as remove the variety of beautiful stadiums we once had, and replace them with the generic and dull ones we've had for the past 5 years. After 5 years of little graphical progress, I think plenty of people would settle just to be having Fm-17's visuals back, with Fm-23's ME. Not going to happen though as I think the answer as to why the 3d gets little attention these days lays in the "Will you be buying Fm-23" thread. As its there you'll see the majority of players pre-order this game no matter what. That means there's little incentive for a studio to invest in major improvements when they're guaranteed to be banking people's cash in advance without having to be held accountable for whatever it is they decide to release. It happens every year with lots of games so its not just a FM / SI thing. But pre-ordering is the root cause of why games studios get away with releasing sub-par products year in year out (but I guess that's for another argument).
  13. A stadium editor would be a very useful 'headline' feature imo. It may also save SI a lot of time resolving the legitimate complaints about how the stadiums in FM have lacked variety and character since the FM-17 days. I could imagine a community with access to a stadium editor would pretty much build every conceivable stadium in the world and have it downloadable for everyone else to use in no time. One problem solved, thus leaving SI to get on with updating the rest of the 3d matchday experience!
  14. Looking at which posts in this thread (and elsewhere) that have gained the most upvotes (some posts with 50+ which is pretty rare!), I don't think the people asking for better graphics and stadiums etc are a minority anymore. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago, yes, but there's definitely a growing frustration from more and more players at the failure of SI to improve the 3D matchday experience.
  15. Its baffling. I remember at the time people who made a fuss about the big change in 3d match graphics from Fm-17 to Fm-18 were often shouted down on these forums, with the 'go play FiFA' mantra often spouted. So its heartening to see that more people these days are calling for an improvement to the 3d graphics than ever before. New features and realism are great and all, but there comes a time when other parts of the game need to be brought up to scratch too, and it makes sense to improve the 3d match experience as a lot of work has gone into getting the match engine and player animations to the point they're at now. The visual representation of all that hard work really needs to be a headline feature sooner or later, especially if SI want to attract new players to this game.
