Serious question;

I'm coming to the end of my honours year in a Computer Games degree with a predicted 2:1. Obviously I don't want to cut and run in March/April or whenever the successful candidates are offered jobs, should I be lucky enough to be one of them of course Big Grin.

Are the start dates immediate or would SI allow for those of us finishing up at Uni this summer (May), given the positions are for juniors and all.

Hi,

Not being fussy or anything!

I work for a well known newspaper in Manchester in the recruitment advertising department.

Just to let you know that it is now unnaceptable to post a job as "Junior" etc as it breaks the age discrimination act!

Dont know why im posting this probably the boredom of work!

If you are suitable for the role then we can wait until May. Normally people have at least a 1 month notice period when changing jobs, and if you applied tomorrow then it would take until that time to go through the process of introduction and first/second interviews anyway. Go for it, you have a games-related demo that you can provide, don't you? Always a bonus Smile.

Damn, I'm very local and looking for work, but I'm unfortunately still stuck in the stone age with Visual Basic, and have no degree.

Suppose it's not really worth applying, probably going to end up developing crappy access applications for the rest of my life.

I don't think I've seen such daft responses to a job advert in my life.

Some of you are never going to get a job.

It's not OK to use the term junior when specifying age related criteria. It is acceptable to use the term junior when it's related to where the position falls into the company hierarchy.

I don't know how you expect to be able to create graphics / artwork or do programming work without the knowledge of the applications you would be using to do said work. Big Grin

This is the first time Ive looked at this post and just have a coulpe of questions.

Firstly, Ive designed a lot of promotional work for my company, (some of my work can be found on www.simworx.co.uk) using Adobe Photoshop CS2. I've also created 3GT kits for an FM07 patch for the FM-Base community. I have a full portfolio of work from my companies promotional material and believe I still have the kits somewhere.

As we manufacture flight simulators I've had some exposure to programs such as C++, Labview, Blender, VisualBasic and Blender. Also we use a lot of PLC programmng which I've had some small involvement with.

If you guys are interested in seeing a CV and portfolio, I'd be happy to send a copy down including a DVD of my work. If so let me know and I will provide an email address to send postage details to.

I'm also a seasoned FM addict!
Cheers

As long as you are eligible to work in the UK and willing to relocate to London I would imagine they are.

I am a 25 year old audio visual installer with a degree in film and media practises, I have played games since I was about 6 and have enjoyed the championship manager series since the amiga days and now the footie manager games and because of that I feel that I am therefore qualifyed for these positions despite not having any knowledge, skills or expertise in the areas directly relating to programing or knowing why I want to work in games development, I imagine it mainly involves playing games and not doing much and am certain it is well paid, easy and does not have any over time or long hours assocaited with it and that you all lead glamourios london lives and have a great time when your not doing coke off of supermodels or driving fast cars.

Further more I couldn't even be bothered to read the intial post so consider this my application. I don't need an interview as I can do the work from home.......

sorry, seriously though, some of the posts in this thread made me register just to be cynical but I have managed to get a hold of myself now Smile

just woundering if Si would be interested in an apprentice style of role. Im currently 17 and moving would probably be best for me. I currently have spent the last 10 years trying to teach my self game design on a low game making program(which i believe is used at Utrect Uni). however it was never very good and it hardly taught me anything so delted it 2 years ago. I guess you cant complain for a tenner. However because of my attituded when i first hit my teens my old school wont take me or give me a referance for college. Im a hard worker and all my previous jobs will back that up and i am wanting to learn and get into the games industry. However im concearned that my lack of academic knowledge is hindering me back quiet a bit.

thanks if i get a reply.
