Hey there,

Here's my issue:
I'm in the end of the 2024-2025 season with the Pens. The only players still in the team from the start of the game is Crosby and Malkin. (the third to last if wanna know was Kris Letang who left 2 years ago for some picks)

Crosby is 37, has 1506 career games and 2515 career points (1057 goals).

Malkin is 38, has 1418 career games and 2149 career points (978 goals).

Their speed has gone down (crosby 13 and malkin 8) as well as some other stats going down.

I realise they can still put a 100-point season, but I want to have my young guys come up as they are ready but I don't want to trade or waive them. I want them to retire, as a Pens so maybe they can also retire their numbers, something that is in the game, but I haven't seen happen yet.

This is the longers I've played, coming up to my 20th season, all with the Pens, with 7 cups to show, never really been into the FA market, simply made my team and maintained it through the draft.

Crosby has 10 Art Ross trophy, Malkin has 6.

Now the question: What can I do to these guys so that they retire? Open the editor and lower their CA/PA? Lower their reputation? Make them even older?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Just don't re-sign them. They don't have to be under contract for your team to retire their number, but you're right, it rarely happens in EHM. It's a feature that has never worked right.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm in the year 2021 and Marian Gaborik and Ales Hemsky are on my team, but both are losing their physical attributes quickly. I'm not re-signing Gaborik this year, and I won't re-sign Hemsky next year. Even if both sign elsewhere, which I doubt, they'll retire on their own pretty quickly.

The oldest I've seen any player go without retiring is 41.

And btw, yeah, I would guess you could force a retirement by using the saved game editor to lower their current ability rating.

Thanks for the answers.

I'll just leave them as they are and use them as 4th liners and on 2nd PP unit. I've been using Malkin winging Crosby all my 19 year career, to start the right winger was always a veteran, as they got older, it has always been a rookie.

I don't want their "point per game" ratio to go much down either with the declining years.

Malkin has made 8-9million throughout his career after a 3-year contract of 3m after his entry-deal.

Crosby made 7.5-8million throughout his career after a 3-year contract of 4.5m after his entry-deal.

Malkin is slated for 7.25m, no trade, next year.
Crosby will get 7.5m, no trade, next year.

I can afford to use my up-and-coming forwards in the top 2 lines and keep them in lower line duties, maybe in the 3rd line with feared hitter and heavyweight Darrell Lacroix (I just love that name), matching them against top line when the other team is not a strong team.

Maybe I'll keep them hanging, maybe as healthy scratches. It will be the most expensive duo of healthy scratch in the history if the game I believe. Frown
