Face-offs are considered a defensive skill, so putting a player on a practice regime with defensive skills set to intensive should help.

I'm pretty sure faceoffs are an offensive skill.

Thats insane! Is there a link to explain what skills are considered what category for the 2007 version? (I haven't found one that really lists it out yet) So I don't screw up even more of my practice time? Razz

Just go into the practice screen and look at each set of attributes. When you bring up defensive skills, there's faceoffs.

And to answer the original question about teaching a player center, will their faceoff skill go up, yes it will if they're at least "competent" at center already. If they're "unconvincing" or if center isn't listed as a position, I doubt you'd get much out of it.

Be that as it may, I used to track my player attribute movements on a month-by-month basis. Faceoffs tended to follow stickhandling, passing and deking as the attributes moved, and most definitely did not follow the defensive attributes (checking, hitting, pokecheck... though Positioning always seemed to just have a mind of its own - seemed to move independantly from anything else, and sometimes would go DOWN while the other three defensive went up).

Whoever reads this thread can decide what they want to go by, but seeing how I have over 200 MB in leftover tracking screenshots on my PC, I do have some evidence to post :P

I can also find many instances of the 3 defensive attributes (excluding positioning; I just don't know what's up with that one) moving and faceoffs staying put (on a center, of course), but those are not as telling.

FWIW, watching those attribute movements, I also saw a frequent link between the movement of Teamwork and Positioning.

NOTE: All those screenshots are from v 3.0.3, but I don't think this topic would have much in common with the decline bug so I doubt it affected anything.

If you want to raise the Positioning attribute of your players, teach them goaltending. In most of my practice regimens, I have goaltending set to medium and it definitely affects Positioning.

This should have said Teamwork and Getting Open.
